Can someone tell me when this actually happens? Last trip we stayed in the Magic Kingdom about 1.5 hours after close and never saw it. I thought maybe i missed it but I just saw the video clip of it on www.laughingplace.com and I know that I wouldn't have missed it. So when the heck is it?

I heard about this before our last trip and I had my family stay late to see it. We never saw it and they laughed at me not believing me. Saying you can't believe everything you read on those boards. I want to see it and prove them that it exist for those fortunate stragglers in the Magic Kingdom.

It's very beautiful to watch because most people are already out of the park and few stragglers left. We watched it from the hub right in front of Walt's statue.
The castle sparkled and changed colors a few times, and in the background was some soothing disney music and Mickey's voice saying thank you for coming to the park, ya da, ya da, ya da, and stay safe on the drive home.
It made leaving the park so much more special because I felt that we were getting a beautiful and touching send-off. Not just a hey, we got your money, now get out!
If you're up for it, stay a while, don't leave immediately when the park closes, linger for awhile and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

You hear a short text read out about Walt's dream as the castle changes colour at what I think is a *slightly* accelerated rate. It's nothing grand and happens as MK closes and people are all but gone. Employees seemed to know nothing of it, so the term appears to be a fanatical one rather than a real life Disney one. Lurk around for a while and you'll hear it :)

I'm a big sap for anything to do with the Castle, so when I read about this and saw the video of it before our last trip, I just knew we had to catch it.
Well, I forced my sister to hang around the park for quite a while - we actually ended up taking the last monorail over to the TTC for the night. Just an interesting little tidbit...we decided to bus it for the rest of the trip. :p
But anyhoo, back to the topic....
It's true, most of the CMs won't have any clue what you're talking about if you ask, so don't even bother. And I've found that you really can't hear it too far up Main Street - whether it was because of the noise on the particular night I stuck around or my hearing or what, I'm not sure. I would recommend moseying around the hub or the Casey's end of Main Street - not near the park entrance. It really was sweet to heard as much of it as I did, but I wished I was closer to the Castle to really appreciate it.
Incidentally, my family, by luck, heard the "kiss goodnight" at Disneyland while we were in the Castle Courtyard, and it was the sweetest thing ever. My mom got it on video, also by luck, and it was truly the perfect ending to our day! princess:

Where is the video on laughing place? I would love to see it!
I have witnessed the kiss goodnight and it is one of my favorite MK memories! I had gone over to the MK by myself in January on a night that the park didn't close particularly late. I stayed while everyone was leaving, determined to see it (even though CMs kept telling me they didn't know what I was talking about!) All of the sudden, there was kind of a second "goodbye announcement" and a flourish of classic disney music. And the colors on the castle were changing fast and all kinds of different patterens were all over it. There I was practically alone on Main Street. I almost felt like I was halucinating!
I went to Laughingplace.com -- what am I looking for there?

I wasn't providing a link to the video. I was answering Colleen (or Josh - don't know which!)'s question about where I found the times for the Kiss Goodnight! LOL! :)

This is what we must have seen Tues. night (5/4) We were caught up in the grid lock getting out, it seemed to be quite crowded that night and all of a sudden music started playing and the castle started to change colors and sparkle again. It was about 10:30 I think. BTW we got our real "kiss" during Wishes. It was getting close to fireworks time and I wanted to find a place to watch. But my DS4 had other ideas. He insisted he wanted to go on the Dumbo ride one more time. Since it was our last night I gave in. Well what do you know but the fireworks started right when we got on the ride. We were thrilled and when we got off my DS4 said to me "Mommy the fireworks were kissing me". What a great end to our week!!

The Kiss Goodnight does exist!! It was the single most magical thing I have ever experienced in many, many trips to WDW. If you can manage to stay in the park long enough to see it, it's really great!

Ann is right. It does exist and it's very special... one of those "You'll know it when you see it" deals. Last November we were at WDW with my parents. Mom uses a scooter and the darn thing broke down. We took a lot of time trying to get it working and we were some of the last folks on Main Street heading home. All of a sudden I heard music, and the castle changed colors and recorded voices (Mickey or Jiminy) thanked us for coming. Then the colors "faded" down the castle and it finally was all dark. The effect of the lights, voice-over and music was very special. I had a huge grin on my face and was so glad that because of that stupid malfunctioning scooter, I had finally gotten to see the famous "kiss goodnight" that I had heard about but never understood. It was magical and I hope to stay really late this summer to catch the "kiss" again!

Wow! Thanks for the link. I just watched it and got all teary-eyed. There is something about the music from "When You Wish Upon a Star" that gets me every time! :)
