I just received a fake e-mail claiming to be from paypal security. When I opened the e-mail it asked for a great deal of personal information including bank accounts and PINs. The site looked real! I did NOT send any of this information. When I logged on to the real paypal site they instructed me to forwad the e-mail to spoof@paypal.com. Within minutes they replied to tell me that it was indeed a fake message and they would be investigating it.

Some tips I've learned:
Paypal will never ask for PINs of bank cards.
Paypal will address you by your name within the e-mail. (This e-mail did not in fact they had my account name wrong!!!)
Paypal has a toll free number you can call with questions.
If you suspect fraudelant uses on your account, immediately change your password.

Hope this helps someone else. :firefight

Make sure if you went to the link that was included or opened any attatchments that you also run a virus scan. Some of these contain viruses that track keystokes so that they can get your passwords and log-in information from every site you go to that way. There are so many e-bay and paypal scams going right now. Make sure to never send information(password, account numbers, etc) via an e-mail or don't ever use a link in an e-mail to get to a site. They are very good at making them look like the authentic site.

I had the exact same thing happen to me with Ebay about four days ago. These spoof sites are becoming more and more sophisticated.

My aunt BELIEVES EVERY email she gets!!!!! She actually sent her info back on one of the paypal and ebay forms!!!!! No matter how many times she is TOLD NOT to do this. She is 43yrs old so she is old enough to listen. She has also deleted programs because she gets emails saying there is a virus. Her husband has given up fixing her computer and she has to have a seperate account for her ebay/paypal stuff because he is sick and tired of her foolishness!

we now play a little game with these emails.

In the user name we print something funny or obscene like "bite me" or other nice sayings. Now for the password we simply write "Reported to payapl security"

May not do much but it is fun to think of them opeing that one hoping for my info and getting a nice message.

My son just opened his own ebay and paypal I told him not to respond to any emails before I see them. So if anyone has a teen coming of ebay age make sure they are aware also.
