As far as I know, this is only true for the ESPN Club at Disney's Boardwalk, not for the majority of the EPSN Zones, such as the one in Chicago.
The reason for the change at ESPN in Florida is due to Florida state law (as a result of a Florida constitutional amendment passed by voters in fall 2002).

Same holds true for the one in CA at Disneyland. The law here is pretty strict on smoking and appears to be cathing on in the rest of the country.

Jellyrolls is still smoking...
It has to do with the percentage of food vs booze.. if you sevre more than 5 or 10% of your gross in food, then you had to become nonsmoking according to Florida law...

That's very interesting Laurabearz!! Here in CA, they even made bars non smoking. I imagine that the law may change over time as people get used to it.

I am not 100% positive but I am pretty sure that the dining room at ESPN is non smoking but the bar and the tables in the bar area allow smoking. I was last in ESPN the beginning of Feb and we were seated at a booth in the bar area and I am almost positive people were smoking.

I was just there (ESPN Boardwalk) this past week and it was all non smoking.
I believe it is 10% based on alcohol sales vs other. If I recall correclty, it's updated every 2 years. If a location choses to be smoking and feel they meet the requirements, they are responsible (including financially) for an independent audit to prove they meet the requirments. Expectations were that the audits would be in excess of $1000 each time. I believe it's based on a common "ownership" and if a bar and restaurant is physically connected. ESPN would have no choice in this matter as they two components are obviously connected, under a common management and higher than 10% sales. It does not apply to outdoor venues.

I did not realize this. I thought just NYS was a non-smoking state for both bars and restaurants. For a converted non-smoker it is great to go into a restaurant and have it smoke free.

The entire state of Florida is non-smoking where food is served.
Disney is non-smoking in all indoor venues.

Hey NYer..know what was the nicest part of this new law..going into O'Toole's up on Central Ave (Sport Bar) and being able to enjoy our meal..no more haze!
My son moved to Dublin, Ireland and they went smoke free April 1st..big change for them.
