I understand about the credit card/bank account thing. I've added up all the extras I want to do on our anniversary trip and YIKES! So now I'm trying to pick out a few of the most special things we can do and then add a few things if money allows. Also, I'm hoping for Disney and/or Disney Visa to offer a few discount specials during that time (12/9-12/15). BTW, if you have a Disney Visa, you get 20% off tours.

Dinner on the cruise would be wonderful but probably quite expensive.

I should be able to let you know more about this also - our cruise will be leaving the Grand Floridian, and we got their private dining menu e-mailed to us. There are regular dinner options available (which sound nice, but expensive), but they also have a number of platters that sound nice, cheese, fruit & cheese, deli, mini-subs, deserts. We will probably get a mini-sub tray and some beer, and will be ordering a special cake from the GF bakery to be delivered to the dock, as this will be our 26th anniversary. If you haven't already looked at the special cake thread, go on over there, there are some beauties. It is a permanent thread on I think the restaurant board. For us, this is a stretch, but this is our first vacation since our honeymoon 26 years ago, and may be the last, so since we are saving a lot with the free DDP (sorry), so that we can splurge on some others. like this cruise, and dinner at Vic & Al's. Disney will still get at least as much money from us, but we will get to enjoy a wider variety. Anything else I can help with, holler!

I will be calling in the morning to make the ressie for a Wishes cruise on 9/19. Wish me luck!
Anyone interested in sharing with two adults for a Wishes Premium cruise on Wed. 9/19, please let me know. We would prefer other adults or older children in the party, because this is an adults only trip and I am not sure my mom will want to be trapped on a boat with younger kids who may or may not be in a good mood.
Also, can anyone tell me the payment policy? Do they charge your cc for the full amount when you reserve, is it a deposit, or is it just a "hold"? Thanks.

Abby's Dad

can anyone tell me the payment policy?

From what I've been told, they take the credit card to hold it, but do not charge it unless you don't show. They take the actual payment at the dock before you board.

And OT, but is Chillicothe near Vinton - I have a sister down there, lives in Vinton (I think), and mentions Chillicothe.

Yeah, the platters sound like a really great idea. Didn't you say that you're taking the MK tour? Are you doing the pontoon or ChrisCraft? And getting decorations or no? I've thought about getting a cake but didn't think about having it on the boat. Your full of such great ideas. This is my 10th time to go to WDW, and DH's 2nd time, but we've never stayed on the grounds before. And I've never done any of the other activities except just the parks themselves - well, except for the candlelight processional which is really nice. Oh, if you're interested in doing anything off-grounds, Medieval Times is a really fun dinner show to go to.

Medieval Times is a really fun dinner show to go to

Did Medieval Times several years ago when we were in Toronto (for the Phantom), and it was a great time. Thought about doing it again when we are at WDW, but with this being the first trip for DW and DD23, and since I haven't been down there since before Epcot, thought that there would be plenty to do in the World itself for us on this trip - but I was tempted.

We are doing the pontoon boat for Wishes (MK), and we aren't doing the decorations, although I may reconsider that. The cake that I am going to order has a mickey and minnie bride and groom on it, and they had something like xx number of years and the magic still continues (or some such), and thought that would be great for us. And most of what I've learned has come from this group - this is such an incredible resource, it has become like an extended family, and there is just such a wealth of knowledge and experience here. Just happy to contribute where I can - after all, we all want to have the most magical time possible! Have you ever done Vic & Al's?

Will stay tuned, and enjoy your planning.

Would you believe that after all the times I've been to WDW that the only full service restaurant I've eaten in is the San Angel Inn at Epcot World Showcase? This restaurant has a pretty romantic atmosphere, by the way, if you're planning on eating in epcot and like Mexican food. I've been reading the reviews for Vic and Al's and it sounds wonderful but I'm afraid I'll have to choose between that and the MK Cruise and I'm thinking the MK cruise is pretty much a definite. I just tried to click on the link to look at the dining menu (is that where you found the GF menu?) but the link isn't working for some reason. I'll have to try later.

You'll enjoy Epcot - that's where my very favorite ride in the whole place is - Test Track. I'd be happy just to go ride that ride if I couldn't do anything else.

Have you always lived in Michigan? I was surprised to see that when you said "holler". I didn't know anybody but us Southerners used that expression.:)

That's okay - I've made a budget too but it just keeps getting bigger. I'm afraid something's gonna have to go or I've gotta work some OT.

"holler

Basically life-long Michigander ('cept for 4 years in high school in Wisconsin), but have sister living in southeast Ohio near W. Virginia, and I have sort of a strange working situation - I work from home as a medical transcriptionist. I work for a large national company that is headquartered in, TA-DA, Florida, which is where my boss lives, and then my shift supervisor lives in Louisiana (and is a real sweetheart). The majority of my accounts are in Florida, but I also have accounts in Arizona and California - so I have accents and local dialect like crazy.

And we really are looking forward to Epcot - there are just so many fascinating things over there, and really looking forward to hearing Off Kilter. As far as Test Track will give it a go, but I am also planning on getting DW a ride-along at the Petty Driving Experience - she is a huge Nascar fan (well, she really isn't huge, a pound or two here or there, but definitely not huge).

I got the private dining menu directly from the GF - they give you the phone number when you get the ressie. I can get you the phone number, just don't have it at this desk (I'm at my work computer - but I'm not cheating on them - I get paid by the line, not by the hour). I could also e-mail it to you as an attachment, I think it is either a .pdf or a Word file - they e-mailed it to me. Will get it to you one way or the other.

Now, back to work (picture lion tamer with whip and chair, forcing me back into my cage).

schaery
06-20-2007, 05:47 PM
Off-kilter is great!!!! Oh, and there's another band - can't remember the name - but they're in a little alcove on the left just as you walk into the part of Epcot where the rides are. Is that called Futureworld? I can't remember. Anyway, they play instruments that make them sound like robots and they dance. Really cool.

Another streak of jealousy for the PDE. I'm afraid that's definitely out of the budget as I (and DH) wouldn't possibly settle for anything less than actually driving. I guess TEst Track is as close as I'll get to that. We're pretty big Nascar fans too but it doesn't seem to be as fun as it used to be. It seems to be too regimented and technical in the last year or so. I think they should just go back to plain old stock cars and "may the best man win".

I just called WDW about the cruise and they said from our resort, POR, the best (easiest to get to) place to launch from will be Polynesian or Contemporary, and that we can get a menu from them. I can make my ressie on 9/15 so my calendar is marked.

Now, back to work with you, and I'm off to a photography clase....

I got the Wishes cruise WITH audio for Sept 19th. I would be willing to share but with no more than 4 people. Please no flames, but no one under the age of 10. It will just be me and my 10yo dd. We will be leaving from the Polynesian at 7 pm. I will also be ordering some alcoholic beverages, so if this offends you, please don't reply. The cost is $275 plus I will be giving a $50 tip=$325 divided by number of people. Just want to lay it out so no one asks to share and then gets upset about the cost.

I would certainly hope that you wouldn't need to worry about flames - you are just being very honest upfront about everything - well done, and have a really great time. We'll be there the week before, will be taking the same cruise (only from the GF - because the cake we want is only available there). We still haven't decided yet whether we will open our cruise up - there will be 3 of us, but if we do, we will not be accepting children - not that we don't like children (I believe W.C. Fields had a line that would go here, but we won't go there), and I am sure that some people have perfect angels, but it is just not our choice, and since it is our cruise, we do get to make that choice.

You should be OK. With a few suggestions.......
Arrive between 15-30 minutes early at 'Ohana
Tell your server you need to leave no later than 7:30pm, and if he/she seems to forget request your check at 7:15pm
Take a taxi from the Poly to the Yacht Club (if you don't have your own transportation). Don't take the monorail and try to walk all the way thru Epcot.
Arrive at Bayside Marina at 8pm, don't arrive any earlier because you will wait until 8pm for the window to open to check in and pay for your cruise (your Credit Card is held on file for no-show only, everybody has to be rung up the night of the cruise).
So, if you are on schedule don't rush to get there early.

I have a cruise of the MK fireworks booked for Sept 3rd. It leaves from the Poly. :thumbsup2 It will be our 1 year anniversary.

I was told that even though they will not have wishes that night you will be seeing the fireworks they shoot off for the pirates and princess party in the MK. From what i hear of the pirates and princess fireworks is that they are the best Disney has done so far. Here is your chance to see A different fireworks show from the cruise.

PM if interested in sharing this cruise. I am open to a few couples or a family. We also do not mind if kids are in the group as long as they as well behaved and are comfortable on a boat.

We are two couples in our early 50's that are looking for some folks to join us to defray the costs. Tikihula I filled my celebration cruise within a few days. Look at it this way though if you do not fill it and cannot absorb the cost you can always cancel it because you have up until a day or two before to cancel it. Not sure what the actual amount of time is. You just need to let people know when you are giving them oppurtunity to be part of your cruise if it does not fill you may cancel it. :)

I have a Wishes cruise booked and sharing with another Dis member. The cost is $275 total. What is the going price to tip? I was figuring $25 but see others do $50. I don't have bucks abound but don't want to be cheap either!

It depends on how good your driver is, not on your pocketbook - sorry. The low end would be $25, if the driver is pretty minimal in help, commentary, and getting you a nice trip. However, a normal, good driver, gets the 20%, basically talking $50 here, and be thankful to give it, and look at the cost of this cruise as being $325, not $275. Can't afford $325, do it another time, or open it up to more DISers ($32.50 each is a good rate, and if you get the full 10 that's great, but even if you don't you got something). If we open ours up, I will be charging $32 (I have enough to weight me down without change) per person, even if we only take one extra (there are 3 of us now). That's a fair amount, and you don't have to keep refiguring as the number goes up or down. Just this mouseketeer's opinion.

I just wanted to share about our recent Illuminations Cruise, in case anyone's interested.

Our cruise was on Saturday, 5/26, and it was awesome! Our captain was Nicole, and she was so nice to us and our kids. She seemed interested in what they were telling her (they're 6 and just 4, mind you), and just really paid attention to them. Not everyone does that!

We left the YC dock about 8:15 or so and cruised over by MGM. It was really fun to see the park lit up from the outside, what we could see of it. We waved to the other boats and the boys loved it! We got to our spot in plenty of time and she told us the story behind Illuminations. We had chips and drinks for snacks, nothing major, but something at that.

When it was over, she dropped us off at the dock outside the IG, so we could catch a bus back to our resort.

Wonderful experience, I recommend it if you can get one!

I am trying to book a cruise for Christmas Week - I was debating the value since we own a boat and the entire family is used to boating, however the view maybe worth it.

If we are able to book one we will have extra space for 4 -

We have spent a fair amount of time out on the Great Lakes on a boat considerably larger than this pontoon boat, so the boat experience itself isn't the huge part (though anytime on a boat is good times:thumbsup2), but from my understanding, the view (in our case, of the Magic Kingdom, since we are taking the Wishes cruise in September) is incredible and not really obtainable otherwise. There are some good pictures from a Wishes cruises available in the Photos section (see menu at top of page). Add a desert or snack platter from like the Grand Floridian, and you've got yourself a truly magical evening (OK, so that's just my opinion - but it did get me excited enought to blow the dust and moths off a couple of dollars in my wallet to do it :lmao: ). But like a lot of things, YMMV, but it seems to me that this is one to do.

Hello! For some reason I'm not able to PM. We have not set up anything. I was going to call tomorrow and see if I could get lucky for a cruise (either Wishes or Illuminations). I was thinking the 16th or 17th. Maybe you could also call and see if you have any luck as some people cancel. If either of us gets anything we'll let the other know. I think if we get a reservation we won't have trouble filling it so it won't be as expensive.
Email me back at cherbear_013@yahoo.com. Talk to you soon!

I thought I would reply here as well. I tried calling about a week ago and had no luck but hopefully something will open up soon. If either of you have any spots to fill (it's just my hubby and me) please let me know. If you could get one for the 16th or the 17th that would be amazing as the 17th is my birthday. :-):cake: ::crosses fingers::

Hi!

I'm guessing you can't get PMs because you don't have enough posts(maybe?) Anyway, the 16th would probably work better for us, but the 17th would be ok too. I would think we would be able to get others to fill the cruise. If we can't find them on here, I think Disney can try to fill it for us. It may, however be too late to even try because from what I understand these fill up way in advance.

I set my alarm and got up at 6:30 on the first day of my vacation and was able to book an Illuminations cruise for Sept 26 at 8PM. It is myself, DH and DD13 so we have room for 7 more if someone is interested in sharing. I think chips and drinks(non alcohol) are included in the 275 price and the tip should be around 50 dollars. They gave me a number for the Yacht club private dining if we wanted extras. I have always wanted to do this cruise but have never been lucky enough to get it. Yeah!!! From one bear to another, congrats on getting your Wishes cruise. I believe the Wishes cruises are a little easier to book because there are a lot more pontoon boats available over on that side. Which is interesting, because in my opinion, this is the more desirable cruise (and you get a close up of the electrical water pageant too). But to each their own - optimally it would be nice to do both, but glad that I am getting to do one. Again, congrats!

It can be done, but I think you will have little room for error. One benefit, IllumiNations is at 9:30pm during Christmas to avoid interfering with the Candlelight Procession.
I always figure a comfortable 2 hours for a good, sit-down dinner. Assuming you are seated promptly at 6pm, with 2 hours you will leave around 8pm. If you have your own transportation, you could drive down World Drive and get to the Yacht Club well in advance of the 8:30pm check-in time. If you need to use Disney transportation, your best bet would be to walk to the busses at the Magic Kingdom, so you can get a direct bus to the resort.
So, yes it could be done, but if I was spending the $$$ to dine at California Grill, I would not want to rush this rare experience. I would not want to be dining with one eye on my watch, or as my mother would say, getting "agita" over the stress and worry.
Just my humble opinion.......

Check that....$275.

It would be helpful to everyone if that price was changed in the first post. I made the arrangements with our friends based on the $150 price in the original post. Once I booked I felt like a jerk telling them the price had basically doubled so my wife and I just paid the difference.

Having done the cruise before I think it's worth it for a couple, but I don't think it would be worth almost $150 for a family of 5. My .02

Quick question. Are there any updates on the steps you should take to get an Illuminations cruise. I realize that on page 1 of this thread, they go through the steps, but that page hasn't been updated in over 3 years. I thought there might be an update somewhere in this thread, but this is way too many pages to read through. So, is the info on page 1 still accurate? TIA

In the past, we did many cruises where we were picked up at the Boardwalk. They have now changed it to mandatory pick up at Beach Club. There is an area where you pay for the cruise and then they fit the kids with life jackets. However, we have asked on our last 2 cruises to be dropped off at the Boardwalk, and they always were happy to drop us off there.

Mid-June I scheduled a cruise for Sept. We had reservations at BWV and CM said it was no problem to pick us up at the Boardwalk. Last week we changed to BCV and phoned to switch pickup place. Wonder why original CM didn't know Boardwalk was no longer an option. Perhaps she was new.

All pick ups must be at Bayside Marina, Disney's Yacht Club Resort. This is the only location that has an open cash register and life jackets for those guests 12 and under. In the past one boat was dispatched from BoardWalk, but that boat was moved permanently to the Yacht Club two years ago.
It is much more convenient for all parties to dispatch from one location, and what's the difference, it's a single Friendship Boat ride across Crescent Lake.
As far as drop off after IllumiNations, the driver can drop guests off at any open dock, that includes Epcot's International Gateway, BoardWalk, Swan & Dolphin, MGM Studios or The Yacht & Beach Club.

My DH and I will be in WDW in September to celebrate by 40th birthday and would love to do the Illuminations cruise if anyone has room for 2. Any day between 4th to 13th would be great.

Thanks very much

Jo (Flump)

I have an Illuminations cruise on 9/9 but only have 1 spot left. However, if you're interested in a Wishes cruise instead, I have a wishes cruise on 9/11. We still have 5-6 spots available. Let me know if you're interested in joining us. pixiedust:

Hey there,

I know this is SO late, but was wondering if anyone had space for two adults (one turning 50 that week) on their Illuminations (or even Wishes) cruise anytime between August 10 - 15th? :)

Thanks!

I didn't know the Wishes Cruises were still available. I thought they were only the Grand Gathering Cruises. :confused3 What info do you have on a Wishes Cruise?

Just wanted to post again. We have 4 spots left for the Wishes (w/audio) cruise we have booked for Sept 10th. I will post again in later because I know how many pages there are and I find they are too much to read.

I have tried to do a search but I keep coming up empty. We are a family of four, possibly looking to share an Illuminations cruise on 24 Aug.

Reply to this board and I'll check it in a day or so. If anyone else can get the search engine to work and can find the post, please let me know.

Thanks. Jill in NH.

I didn't know the Wishes Cruises were still available. I thought they were only the Grand Gathering Cruises. :confused3 What info do you have on a Wishes Cruise?

Apples and Oranges.....
The Wishes Cruise (like the IllumiNations Cruise) is where you rent the entire boat at a flat rate. You can have as few as 1 to as many as 10 people on the boat to watch Wishes (or IllumiNations). These cruises are open to anybody, even if you are not staying on Disney property.
The Grand Gathering Cruise, is a large group of guests assembled onto one (and sometimes two) boats (and I think these are the boats that were once used in Animal Kingdom). There is a pre-fireworks gathering outdoors at the Contemporary Resort, then everybody boards the boat and a CM dressed as a pirate is your host for the evening. This cruise is only available to groups who have a Grand Gathering vacation booked through Disney.

 I can't believe I missed a chance for a spot by 1 day! And even though you pay a flat rate to rent the boat, I thought there were minimums of people needed.Am I wrong about that??

Yes, you are incorrect. ONE person can rent, pay for, and be the only guest (in addition to the supplied driver) on a pontoon boat to see IllumiNations and/or Wishes.

I have a Wishes Cruise :boat: booked for 22nd August. It's my 40th birthday :bday: so the boat should be nicely decorated and the music is being piped in. Just me, DH and DD(13) non smokers from the UK. Leaving from Contemporary Marina.

Thinking it would be nice to share the Cruise with some other people and make new friends. It would be great to share with anyone else celebrating a birthday. If anyone would be interested in sharing please could you PM me with details of your party size, ages etc. Cost will depend on numbers but I see the usual rate is about $32 per person.

I know this is a longshot, but I'm wondering if anyone has a cruise booked for August 19-22 (preferrably the 20th) that they would want to share. I planned the trip very late (started planning last week, just booked Monday) and didn't even think about this as a possibility. 1) When you book the cruise they take your credit card information, but it is not charged until you board - you complete payment then. But it will be charged something (I can't remember whether it is the full fare or just a no-show charge) if you do not show up or cancel within the time alotted.

2) You can get various foods, from full dinners to platters (desserts, subs, cheese and crackers), as well as I believe beer or wine through private dining. When you book the cruise the CM can give you the number.

Enjoy!

We are looking for a boat crew to join for either MK fireworks or Illuminations. We have two adults and 2 children. We would really like the night of Oct. 14 but could also do the 15th or 16th. We have done the Illuminations twice in past years and really enjoyed it. It is sure a neat experience to see and hear everything from the water view. We have always shared a boat and it worked out really well. The captains of the boats have always been really fun. Just a great experience.

Chronologic order - the highest numbered posts are the most recent, and probably are in the ballpark of where you want to be. If you have a specific date and cruise that you are looking for, just post the dates you prefer, which cruise, and how many, and if somebody fits that, they will contact you. Likewise, if you have a cruise to post, post the date, the cruise, and how many you have room for. Works out great - but I can understand the feelings! I think it is just that this board is so large, and there are only so many moderators, that it is difficult to maintain separate lists.

I have 2 questions about the Illuminations cruises:

1. If you depart from the Y&BC marina, how early are you allowed to park at that resort? We were thinking of getting there around 4-ish, hopping on the boat to Epcot for a few hours, then coming back to catch the cruise.

2. I've heard on allearsnet that the smoke from the fireworks can be a problem when you're on the boat. Anyone have any experiences with this?

TIA!!!

1. I would not mention that you plan on going to Epcot. You should not have a problem if you say you are going to Beaches and Cream and plan on walking around the BoardWalk area, and that you have an IllumiNations Cruise scheduled. That way the guard knows you will be parked until around 9:30pm.

2. Smoke is always a potential problem anywhere you stand anywhere around World Showcase. Can the smoke be blowing towards the boats, sure. You might get smoke, you might get smoke and ash too, but would I decide not to do a cruise just because of this possibility? No way.

Crazy Hakim,
Oooh, great idea for parking! Actually Beaches and Cream sounds pretty good for dinner that night!!!

We have room for 3 MORE PEOPLE for an Illuminations Cruise on Thursday, October 18th. Sounds like we will have a fun group onboard, including a 7-year-old birthday girl and a 7-year anniversary couple. None of us know each other, so don't feel shy if you'd like to come join us for a fun cruise.
Only $30.50 (total) per person if we get a full boat. Come on now, isn't this something you've always wanted to do? :cool1:

I will be taking my GF on her first trip to Disney and Illuminations is my favorite of all the events. Please let me know.

I just did one of the Illuminations cruises last night and it was wonderful! I can highly recommend them! I met up with people from here on the DIS - a honeymooning couple from England (York) who were looking for people to make the 10. We all had a great time.

We have the pontoon boat and we're 2A2C, so we can share w/4 more people, the total cost is $250(it's a celebration cruise), with no audio(only one left), so it'd be. $31.25/person +tip(at your discretion). Looking forward to sharing with other people to make it more fun!!

I called to book Illuminations cruise yesterday and today.
I sat at the phone at 6:55am and punched in the telephone number so I would have it on speed dial.
Called at 6:59. Line not open yet.
Called at 7:00am and had an agent on the line by 7:03.
Sold out already!! By 7:03 both mornings, they were sold out.
I can't do this any faster!!
Amazed and dissapointed.

I know this is an extremely late request, but just thought I would try. Would anyone happen to have an illuminations cruise booked with 5 open seats for anytime from Aug. 1st up and including Aug. 6th. I am visiting with my family next week and I'm taking my sister (in her forties and never been to WDW). I am trying to make it extra special for her so that she understands why I'm such a Disney nut!!! Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Is there anyone with room for 2 on Friday, October 12th? That is our 5th wedding anniversary and I would love to surprise DH with this added treat. We've already got dinner reservations at Le Cellier for 5:40 for that day. We're eating dinner in Canada since that is where we spent our honeymoon (Banff). He knows about that little twist, so I'd like to impress him with a little something extra. Please PM me. Thanks!!!
