I've posted it on the May Central board but I'm gonna post here again to try our luck.

We are looking for spaces available on illuminations cruises on May 12, 13 or May 15. We have 5 adults. Please send me a PM if you have spaces available. TIA! :thumbsup2

I asked my TA about her potentially booking a cruise for us in August. We are a family of 6. Here is her reply:

"As for the Illuminations cruise that is only available for groups of eight or more, those in a Grand Gathering. I really do wish they would change that policy because I have clients who inquire abut that cruise all the time."

Huh? I thought this was paid on a per-boat basis, so if I want to rent the boat it's a set amount no matter how many people are on it. Then, if I want, I can sell the other seats to another group.

Am I missing some key information here? If my TA is correct, the only way I can get one of these is to find somebody else who has 6 spots available, which of course wouldn't be possible because a 4-person group wouldn't be able to book either. ???

I think your TA has the cruises mixed up. There is a Grand Gathering Cruise for Wishes, with Patch the Pirate. This cruise has story-telling and songs on board, and cookies, fruit, etc before boarding. It is for Wishes, and not Illuminations.

If you want to find a cruise to share, you need to include the date range that you are interested in. Otherwise, nobody will know what you are looking for.

Will they allow you to bring champagne on the boat or can you order it through resort private dining?

We were fortunate enough to get to share someone's Wishes cruise last year. We had a wonderful time!

This year I'm hoping to get a spot for an Illumination's Cruise.

The best times for the cruise for us would be from June 11th thru June 26th. We will actually be there a couple of days before if I had to take one before the 11th. One adult, one child 9 (well-behaved girl:) ).

Please pm me with the terms if someone has room for us.

TIA

Ah, that does help narrow it down some :)

We are also going in the first week of August. You won't find anybody yet with room to spare because these cruises can't be booked until 90 days out. For my Aug 3rd check-in, I could not call before May 5th. For us, we will need to get back on this thread in May looking for space if we are unsuccessful in booking our own cruises. Does that make sense?

So, I stayed up until 4 am (since I'm in California) last night to book an IllumiNations Cruise for June 24 and I got through!!! Those directions were real good! However, I wasn't able to make a reservation :sad1: Turns out they were doing June 22 and I have to call back tomorrow :sad2:

Anyway, I'm going to be awake again tomorrow and do the same thing. So wish me luck and I'll let you know since I'm going to ave space for a bunch of people....there's only 3 of us!

I can't believe we actually snatched a ressie for May 15th!!!:woohoo: Last time I called they said there were no availability and today they said they have one available!!!

But now I'm confused...:confused3
1. I read on the DIS that there are only 5 boats available and they only departs from Yacht/beach club. The CM that I spoke to said the boat will pick us up at the GF marina (we are staying at GF)...does the Illuminations cruise pick up at resorts other than YC & BC?
2. DIS said that the maximum capacity of the boat is 10 people. CM said our boat could sit 8 people max...so is it 10 or 8?
3. CM said snacks and soda are included...is that true?
4. I told the CM specifically that we need boat for Illuminations...but I heard her mumbling to herself about some "celebration cruise"?! Is the "celebration cruise" different from the Illumination cruise?

I apologize if this has been posted already...does anyone know if there is room to accomodate a stroller (folded up) on the pontoon boats? We are doing the Wishes cruise in May (the one with the audio feed) and I am wondering whether we will be able to bring the stroller on the boat with us or whether we will have to leave it somewhere on shore (is there a decent place to leave it if necessary?).

I really want to rent a boat to watch either one of the shows if any days are available when I call. I know the drill, call exactly at 7 am on the 90 day mark, (please see my remark below, though)...I'm looking to split the cost with another family (we'll divide it into a pp cost to be fair). It'll be me, my 16 y.o., my 6 year old, and possibly my daughter's friend a 15 y.o and my mom...The kids will behave, they're very shy. ...We really want to try this, but can't see paying that much money for only 3 to possibly 5 of us. If anyone is thinking of doing a cruise during the dates above, and is willing to have company, I'd love to share!

*****I'm not sure if anyone is aware of this or not. As you probably know now, we're arriving in wdw on 9/29, so I thought that yesterday would have been the 120 days before we come right? Wrong! I decided to call like on the 26 - 27th day just to see what would happen and I was able to make adr's....I haven't sat down to count out how many exact days the 26th was, but we're estatic since for the 1st time, EVER, we got into the Cinderella's Royal Table for lunch. ...I was like, I need to make sure all my friends from the board, actually count the physical days and not go by only the month (like call 3/29 for a 9/29 trip)****

Is this the Wishes Cruise, or Illuminations?

We are looking for an Illuminations Cruise. We will be in the world from the 9th-30th so the 24th would fit for us. We are 1 adult and 1 child9.

We did the Wishes Cruise last year and enjoyed it very much.. we are so looking forward to the Illuminations Cruise if we could get it.

Please PM me with your terms if this is for Illuminations. Thank You!

We shared a cruise once before. We made our match over this site too!
We both exchange emails/cell phone numbers prior to leaving for WDW. I brought cash to pay my 'host/sharing person' which included the cost per person and an agreeded upon tip to the driver. She handled paying the driver directly after I paid her before we got on the boat. It was a great experience and a fun way to meet other DIS'ers.

We were even invited to dinner with them the next night but already had reservations elsewhere...

Good luck... I might be interested in space on your cruise if there is still openings as we will be there from June 19th - July 26th. Need to check with DH though..

:sail: I have reserved a Premium (with piped in synchronized music) Wishes Cruise for June 2, 2007. :cool1: It leaves out of Wilderness Lodge at 9:00 PM. We are a party of three (me, DW and DD11) and are willing to share the boat and cost with someone. The boat reservation costs $275.00 plus tip. There are 10 seats, with 7 available. I intend to share the cost evenly per person. If all 10 seats are filled, then it will only be $27.50 per person, plus tip to the captain. I will pay for the boat, and you pay your share to me in cash before we sail.:thumbsup2

This will be our last night at WDW before sailing on a 5-day Disney Cruise. We want to end the land-portion of our trip with a bang!:welcome: Come join us!

Just send me a private message to learn more or reserve your spot.

Tried to add 2 adults and 1 child to my Illuminations reservation, but I was informed that the max is 10 people. It doesn't matter whether they are adults or children. I thought the pontoon boats are able to accommodate 12 with children?

My party right now has 7 adults and 2 kids. Did they change the policy or is there just too many adults in my party?

I'm going to join in this thread, would like to do Illuminations cruise - dates between 13 - 27 th October 2007. We are 2 adults, 2 boys ages 11 and 14, if anyone wants to share PM me. Its obviously too early to have one booked but I'm either going to try or if someone elses manages to get one would like to share. We will be staying at the YC so getting there is no problem but how do people go about sharing the cost. I would be uncomfortable about paying up front to strangers before the event. I would rather pay our share on the night.

...but how do people go about sharing the cost. I would be uncomfortable about paying up front to strangers before the event. I would rather pay our share on the night.

Well, please remember that the person who books the cruise puts it on a personal credit card. The card is not charged unless they do not show up as scheduled. The night of the cruise the payment can be made just about anyway you want, cash, credit card, room key, Disney dollars...... but, if I was sharing, I would want at least some sort of sign of good faith, because if you do not show up, they will most likely have to absorb the full cost of the cruise without the opportunity of finding somebody else to share the cost.

Lizzy Lemon

Maybe I'm just a more suspicious (or cautious) person. I understand what you are saying, I am just stating that I personally would feel uncomfortable paying $100 or so to someone, who lets face it, I would not know if they had actually booked a cruise or not. I suppose you will now come back with I shouldn't think of sharing a cruise then!

Sorry -- I don't feel like reading all 89 pages of questions on this thread!
Do you need to burn a park ticket to view Illuminations if you do the cruise?
In other words, we spend the entire day at our resort, pay for the cruise -- watch Illuminations and go right home. Do we need a park ticket?
Thanks!!

Hopefully Polynesian Concierge will be booking an Illuminations Cruise for myself and my new wife for 2nd August - if anyone wishes to join us to share the cost, we'd be happy for the company! (It's a surprise for her, so feel free to join in the fun!)

PM me if you're interested - perhaps we can organise a bit of build up for her!

We will be in Disney from 9/29-10/6 and would be interested in going on a cruise with someone else. There could be anywhere from 4-6 people with us, so we're willing to split the cost by per head rather than half. It doesn't matter to us which cruise we do, either. Hope I can find someone soon!

Maybe this has been asked and answered ( I admit that I skipped a few pages here and there in this thread), but can someone tell me what time you board the boats for the Illuminations cruises? We will be there in Dec, and will be landing in Orlando @ 6ish, but figure it would be around 8 by the time we could get checked into the hotel and get to Epcot area, didn't know if this would be too late for the boats..?

Normally, arrive at 8pm, check-in, get life jackets, depart around 8:15-ish
BUT, from Thanksgiving thru NYE IllumiNations moves from 9pm to 9:30pm so push everything back 1/2 hour
Arrive at 8:30pm, depart around 8:45pm.

We will be there the same time. Last year we shared a cruise with a family and it worked out great.

I've read that disney no longer calls them illumination cruises. People have said that cm will not know what you're talking about. I was told to book a cruise from the boardwalk around the time of the fireworks. My question is what time is the right time to make sure you see them. If I book at 8pm my cruise will be over before the fireworks, if I book at 9pm then i will just be getting on the boat and miss the fireworks. What time is everyone booking thier cruises for? Thanks this will be for our 1st anniversary and am looking for something special and my DH loves fireworks as much as I do.

This is not true, they are known as Specialty Cruises. Also, do NOT book it from BoardWalk, for the past 2 years there is no longer a BoardWalk Cruise Pontoon Boat. All boats are dispatched from Bayside Marina at Disney's Yacht Club Resort.
From Jan 1, to the day after Thanksgiving, IllumiNations is at 9pm. From Friday after Thanksgiving until December 30th, IllumiNations is at 9:30pm. And on NYE IllumiNations is performed twice, usually 8pm and 11:30pm
I hope this clears everything up.

What I read was you ask for a "specialty cruise" and then ask for one that runs during Illuminations/Wishes. I don't think you ask for a specific time, once you say that they know how to set it up.

You know, I just realized something...

Since the cruise leaves from the Y&BC resort.... do you need to have used your park passes that day in order to go on it? We're not getting park hoppers, so I figured we could only try for this on our EPCOT days. But when I thought about it, I realized that they very well may not be the case. Can anyone confirm this for me?

I didn't see anything about this in the first post on the thread, but obviously I didn't read the all the following posts, so my apologies if this has been mentioned already.

No problem. You board the boat at Bayside Marina which is at Disney's Yacht Club Resort. You never leave the boat, you watch IllumiNations from the water, you do not need any Park Passes.

Question:

The pontoon boat apparently holds 10 adults. I've got a potential 6 adults and 5 kids for a cruise - although two of the 'kids' are actually 16 years old.

Given that there's 11 but with 3 little 'uns, will that be OK to fill a boat?

3 Boats? There are 6 Boats.
Currently there are (5) 24ft pontoons and (1) 20ft pontoon. The 20ft pontoon is in lieu of Breathless (until?). Granted, one pontoon is set aside for those on a Grand Plan package, and one pontoon is held for the concierge, but if the concierge does not book this boat, it drops into the 407-WDW-PLAY system 7 days before the date. And if nobody from the Grand Plan reserves, this pontoon boat also is available but only the day of the cruise and only bookable in person at Bayside Marina. Usually, when this final boat is available they put a sign in the window at the cashier, but you could always ask at the window.
But, if you look under the bridge, more times than not you should see a total of 6 boats parked to view IllumiNations each night.

I tipped $30 for our Wishes cruise last week. From what I have read here, it seems $25 is the going rate. Most seem to be charging other that join in $30 per person, which adds up to $300 for ten people. The cruise costs $275.

This is for all you folks who have shared Wishes or Illuminations cruises in the past: I'm sharing an upcoming Wishes cruise with two other families (I'm the reservation holder - can't wait, this makes the Wishes cruise so much more affordable - thanks DISboards! ). We've agreed to split the cost evenly by # of people, but I'm not sure how to handle the payment. What's "fair" for everyone involved? How did you do it? Did it work well? I'm sorry if this is a repeat question (I can't possibly be the only one to have ever asked this) but I read several pages of the post and did several searches and didn't find anything. We shared an Illuminations Cruise with another family we met on the TGM boards. (It was so much fun!) Anyway we were each a family of 5 so we split the cost right down the middle and we split the tip as well. We tipped $50, each putting in $25.

We met at the marina and each had cash, went to the window and paid. It was pretty easy!

We called at 7am on the dot last September to try and book for our December trip. I got through right away and they told me the boats were all taken. I was so sad. I decided to call every day to see if there was a cancellation. Well that afternoon around 3:30 I called for kicks and what do you know? There was one available! I definately felt the pixie dust!

My point, if you call and they are booked, keep trying. People do cancel!

For our wishes cruise, I paid with my credit card. The other 9 people that went (two were my sister and friend, seven were DISers) paid me cash when we got there. Since there were 10 of us, we each paid $30. Had there only been 9, I would have paid the extra $30. If anyone hadn't shown up, I would have paid all the extra amount as well. It is the risk you take when you are the ressie holder. So, be prepared for that if you make the reservation.

For the Illuminations cruise we joined, I ended up not going, but still paid my share. I wasn't feeling good and didn't want to get stuck on the boat for an hour, so didn't go at the last minute. My sister, cousin and friend still went though. I didn't leave the other family having to pay my spot though.

just some quick things to keep in mind.

You have to be in love with disney decorations and music because it's all over all the time.

The number of things to do and see border on overwhelming so try to do some research, as you are, to get organized ahead of time. You'll sleep better.

A lot of people complain that the characters do not mingle as much as everyone would like. Not a huge problem, but know it going in.

Booking for the Wishes cruise - can it only be done at 90 days, not 180 days like ADR's? I wanted to plan one for after our meal and I'm not sure what time to book the meal. (If we know we are going to do the cruise, then I would make the meal for a time that would give us enough time to eat and get out there, if we don't have the cruise, our plans for the ADR might change, but I don't want to take the chance of not having the ADR at all by waiting until 90 days out). Advice?

Look at the first page of this thread - it explains how to book Wishes and Illuminations Cruises. If you're looking for space on a boat, post your dates and number of people in your party on this thread, and hopefully someone will respond. Or, you can try to book your own boat at the 90-day window. They go quickly so you have to call as soon as the lines open up at 7am eastern time. If you don't have enough people in your party to fill a boat and want to share expenses with someone else, post on this thread and you'll be surprised at how many responses you'll get. These are very popular cruises.

KNELSON - You have to wait until 90-days prior, then start calling right at (or a few minutes before) 7am Eastern Daylight Time). Here's a link to a calculator that will give you the date you need to start calling, based on what date you want to do the cruise.

I have just called Disney recreational
Price for Illumination s 10 seater is $275 + tax and wishes is $225 ,8 people and $250 10 people + tax.
Does anyone want to share the cost of either
for 28th August 2007
or
3rd September.2007
We are staying at the All Star Movie resort.

One adult and one child aged 10

I would prefer Illumination but it really depends on what is left on booking day
so anyone willing to share either please contact me.
Booking date for 28 August is 30th May
and booking date for 4th September is 5th June
thanks

I can't believe they've raised the price so much in the last few years. But of course, since the cruises are in such high demand people will be willing to pay whatever Disney wants to charge. Thanks for the updated prices.

KNELSON - You have to wait until 90-days prior, then start calling right at (or a few minutes before) 7am Eastern Daylight Time). Here's a link to a calculator that will give you the date you need to start calling, based on what date you want to do the cruise.

Question:

The pontoon boat apparently holds 10 adults. I've got a potential 6 adults and 5 kids for a cruise - although two of the 'kids' are actually 16 years old.

Given that there's 11 but with 3 little 'uns, will that be OK to fill a boat?

TIA,

Ben

You should really call and ask. I just booked mine and have 4 adults, 3 kids (ages 6,6,2) I asked if my 2year old counted and she said yes. She told me we could only add 3 more people.

clydenora
06-08-2007, 08:58 AM
I called yesterday regarding an 18 month old, and was told that he will count as a person toward our total count. Something about boating restrictions.

However, you may still want to call to let them know you will have little ones, as the person I spoke to told me he would put a comment on the reservation noting that one passenger is under two, to make sure an appropriate life preserver will be on board.

Hope you can work this out. Enjoy your cruise. We go tomorrow night!

Thinking about doing a wishes cruise. I know you can pay extra for decorations. Do they do anything for anniv. like a happy anniv. banner? Also, it is just me, DH and DS so it would only be 3 of us. That's pretty expensive so is it worth it? If I decided to share the boat would other people feel uncomfortable with the decorations?

My family will be booking (keep the pixie dust coming) the Wishes Birthday cruise with the music piped in on 11/14/07. We have 4 adults that will be attending - three of which will be celebrating their November/December birthdays. I know this is early - but I was wondering if anyone wanted to share the cost which I believe is $275 (I could be wrong though). Anyhow, I know we could add 6 adults or a combination of 8 kids & adults. I checked with Disney and I need to call on August 16th and I am very confident I will get our cruise. If you would like contact me.

How does everyone pay for the cost if sharing? I will hold it with my cc but I don't want to end up paying for it all in case the other people don't show up for whatever reason. (To the people that I am trying to book a shared cruise with please don't take offence it's just alot of money to end being out). We won't have a cell phone because we are from Canada and the minutes would be $$$$.

Just looking for suggestions. Thanks.

How does everyone pay for the cost if sharing?

If we do open it up, we anticipate dividing the cost by the capacity, that is, in our case, the capacity is 10, cost with taxes $275 + $25 to $30 tip for the driver, so let's say $300/10, or $30 per person. We are basically planning for just the three of us, but may open to others, but not financially planning on it. We will probably also be having desert and something to eat from the Grand Floridian (burgers, sandwiches, something like that). If those coming aboard want to participate in that, I guess that would be a consideration also, but at the least, there will be the snacks and drinks already provided.

The Last time I arranged one we did what Abby's dad was saying... I took the total cost... Which included a cake and soda and divided it up by the total on board so if there were only 8 of us that was what the cost was. I was ok with people paying me when they arrived... guess i am just trustworthy like that

I figured that would be the easiest way to do this. I am just nervous over being caught with the cost. Well I guess live and learn. I just found a US minutes package for my cell so at least I will have a way for anyone to contact me and vice versa. One of the worries I had is that everyone would cancel and try to get hold of me but I would get the message to late.

I am just nervous over being caught with the cost.

I wrestled with that, especially after seeing someone here get burned by some people that committed and then never showed up, called, nothing. I don't want to get caught up in having them pay in advance, then cancel and have to refund, or whatever. I just want to take the cruise and have a magical evening. If there are some DISers that we are compatible with that end up sharing some of the expense, great, otherwise we made the ressie assuming that we would be paying the whole thing - less stressful, and I can hardly wait til my wife finds out. I think that will make the whole price worthwhile!

I agree, with the pay in advance...too much trouble, and also I think looking at it from someone elses point of view what assurances do they have about me. Although, I know I wouldn't cheat anyone how do they know that?!

I will just book, and get the US package for my cell. Give my ph# and hope to hear 24hrs in advance if they want to cancel....besides there are more good people than bad.

No problem, we do tend to forget that. In my job 90% of what I deal with is (how do I put this politely??)...the not so good side of humanity. I really don't watch or read the news because somtimes your faith can slip a little.

Looks like you will be our replacements at the world - you arrive the day we leave! I think that both Illuminations and Wishes leave from marinas at the resorts, so no park admission gets used, I know that is the case for Wishes, as we will be taking that from the Grand Floridian marina the week before you get there. I think either cruise would be a lot of fun, but chose Wishes because the view of the MK and the like is supposed to be incredible.

Does anyone know how long the cruise (that takes 10-12 people) lasts? I know it starts at 8pm, but was wondering what time we could expect to be back at the dock? Thanks, in advance :thumbsup2

We are doing the Illuminations cruise on the 25th and we were told to check in at 8pm, the boat will leave the dock at 8:30pm and return in one hour....They also said there is a max of 10 people (no matter what age) We have a pontoon boat. Hope that helps

What I hear, the Illuminations cruise can get really smoky (because you're so much closer to the fireworks). I'll be able to tell you for sure after my cruise on Sept 9th.

Sorry to hear :guilty: you did not get your reservation.

Dont give up. It is possible that a cancellation will come in and I also believe that 5 days before a date, they release any non booked boats that were reserved for Platinum Plan guests....

Just try again every now and then - you may still be lucky!

We are hoping to book a cruise for 7 December 2007. Wish us luck :thumbsup2

Can a Mod please update this thread or start a new one. The OP obviously has gone missing. April and May are still listed and I have asked several times that August be added to no avail. I want to share a cruise late in August.

Not a moderator, but this is an ongoing post - just jump in with your dates that you are looking for a cruise for, or have one to share. Barring that - just start your own thread for August cruises. So far, it seems that people are getting some pretty good responses for September cruises, bet that you will be able to get your August also.

Hi! DH and I will be there that week. Had planned on doing either illuminations or wishes on Friday 12/15.

Opinions please, on which cruise is better - Illuminations or Wishes. And which level is best for the money.

Have never done either, but in looking at the pictures that are available (new ones up for Wishes under photos) and from what I have read in reviews, the view of the MK and the fireworks is very unique from the cruise, and I am not that sure that it is significantly better Illuminations from the boat (and if the wind is wrong, it can get pretty smoky). Also, as the music seems to be such a large part of the experience (and I really thought that Jiminy Cricket had to be real when I was child - a couple of centuries ago :lmao: ), we are going with the premium to make sure that we have the sound. Again, I have done neither, just trying to figure it out as well as I can, but that is my reasoning. Either way, I'm sure that you will have a wonderful time (Hey, it's WDW!), but I'll know for sure in September, and will report back then. As usual, YMMV.

Oh, and another thing - there are good directions at the beginning of this thread on calling for reservations, and from what I understand, the Illuminations are the tougher ressie to get, as they have fewer boats designated for this. I called at 0700 at the 90 day mark and got my ressie for Wishes.

And forgot another reason for choosing the Wishes cruise - you get a close up view of the Electrical Water Pageant.

Wow! After looking at the pics, I'm thinking that the MK cruise will be the one I'd like to do. This is our 10th Anniv trip so I want to do something extra special. Dinner on the cruise would be wonderful but probably quite expensive. I'll have to mark the 90 days on my calendar so I'll remember to call. It seems like forever until that time. Of course, I've been planning this trip since before Christmas of 2006.:santa: Please be sure to let me know how your cruise turns out.

I didn't know with the Wishes cruise you could see the Electrical Parade!

I am hoping ofr a December Illuminations cruise, but the Electrical Parade & Wishes combo looks good too...Hmmm so many Magical Things to Do, now if my credit card & bank account just magically could accomadate all of it I wouldn't need to make difficult choices...
