OK here is the way it works......
Currently, they only show 3 boats in the system as well so there is no change after October 1. Here is the breakdown and I hope this clarifies everything:
There are 3 pontoon boats available in the system everyday for regular guest viewing of Illuminations.
There is 1 pontoon boat available in the system for concierge to book guest viewing of Illuminations. They did this over a year ago to satisfy a huge guest need at the concierge level. If the boat is not booked 7 days out, the reservation drops in to general inventory and can be sold to any guest who calls DRS.
There is 1 pontoon boat available in the system everyday for the Platinum Plan viewing of Illuminations. Effective October 1, if this boat is not booked 3 days out, they can sell it locally (at Bayside Marina). Unfortunately, we can not make the availability drop in to the DRS system so it will be sold through Concierge and the marina or used for service recovery.
This leaves a total of 5 cruise boats for Illuminations (not including Breathless).
Some of the inventory is set aside for guests to book in advance and some is set aside for close in bookings, similar to how Disney books restaurants.
The information in the system is correct and there is nothing we can do to change it, it is just how the system is set up. The challenge we have is that unlike a restaurant, the guest knows there are only 5 boats so they are wondering where the other two boats are vs. a restaurant where the guest has no idea how they manage the system.
In summary, there are still 5 pontoon boats available, but due to inventory management, there are only 3 showing in the system 90 days out, with a 4th becoming available 7 days out (if not booked by concierge) and a 5th becoming available 3 days out (if not booked by the platinum plan).
I hope this helps everybody understand why it "appears" that only 3 boats are available.
I don't think you could have clarified it any better ! Thank you!

So lesson learned is that you should always try again at 7 days out if you did not get the Illuminations Cruise at 90 days out?

Just reposting our "desperately seeking a cruise" request from August 7th - still looking for 2 spots on an Illuminations cruise in October (see the 8/7 post for the dates). We really, really, really would like to make one on this trip. If no one has any booked - any "hints" on how to maybe catch a ride while we're there? (54 days  'til we're "welcomed home"!)
PM or e mail us - happydinks at AOL.
Thanks! (Love this site!)

Is there any one who booked an Illuminations Cruise for Saturday, November 12, and would like to share with our family of three? We are all adult-sized; DH and I are in our forties, DD will be fourteen. DH would be especially delighted if I were to surprise him with this fireworks cruise; he really loves going anywhere on a boat.
Please PM me if you have room to share with three on Nov 12th.
Another question: I had read a reader's comment on Allearsnet that on their Illuminations cruise, they had experienced a lot of smoke and fumes from the fireworks; so uncomfortable it almost ruined the enjoyment of the cruise...Anybody have comments about this happening to them? I imagine that you will always have the chance of this happening, depending on the way the wind blows, and what kind of night it is...

So I have been on hold for over half an hour now. What do you think my changes are of getting one of three boats that would have been in the system this morning? I guess I am going to find out.
I am going to see about the Whishes cruises if the Illuminations is all sold out. Does anyone have any idea how many boats they have for Wishes?

I gave up after 50mins on hold this morning. I figured the three boats were long gone. So is the hold time this long because there are that many people calling to is the call center that short of staff?

Well lets just say everytime I have called the Illuminations boats were gone by7:03am and 7:04 am so they are, I am sure, gone.
However, people do cancel and such so do call back closer to your trip!!!! Plus they may open up the other boats if no one in conceirge or on the gold plan type thing don't want one.

Hi, we're still looking to join an Illuminations cruise between Sept. 19-23. There are 3 of us. 2 A, 1 K. My DD turns 6 on the 19th (very well behaved) and my DM birthday is 22nd (also very well behaved). Any room?
25 days and counting! :grouphug:

Boy this sure sounds like a great time ... I love Illuminations soooooo much and the cruise sounds just wonderfull ...
What are my chances of getting in on a Friday or Saturday night ... we are going down Dec. 8-11 (already have tickets for MVMCP on the 8th.)
Thanks for any info ... I think my 90 days out would be Sept. 9th (right?)

I usually start calling about 5 minutes before 7a and keep hitting re-dial. There are much better odds for the "Wishes" boat. I think when we went in May the CM told us there were 8 boats, we left from the CR but I think they also leave from WL. I called last week to see if there was a boat in Nov on another night, different than the date we got, it was around 7:30a (woke up late) and they were all gone.
Good luck!

Whom ever booked the Cruise pays for it. That person collects from everyone else. I was able to share a cruise last year and we just totaled the bill including the tip and divided it evenly among us. We boarded at the Yacht/Beach Club Marina also. You will love the Cruise.

Sit down and actually count back 90 days to see what date you can start calling at 7am!
Chances are always good, but as I always say never give up! If you don't succeed, keep calling back and check for cancellations. They do happen! In fact, I passed Bayside Marina last night and one boat did NOT go out since it was due to a last minute cancellation!

Hi, all!
My DH and my best friend's DH are both celebrating their 40th birthdays in November (of next year). We've been looking for something special to do and would like to invite about 10 other couples to come with us. My question about the Illuminations Cruise is ... Do all passengers have to have park tickets or does the $234/boat (would need to get 2) cover the "entry" into Epcot? Some of the couples have Annual Passes, but most do not. I thought it would be great to have everyone drive over (church van, carpools) to the Boardwalk area for a big dinner at one of the resorts or on the Boardwalk, then take the cruise afterwards. A couple at our church recently celebrated the wife's 50th birthday at the California Grill (private room) and we watched Wishes afterwards from the Observation Deck ... that's what we had wanted to do, but now that it's "been there, done that," we'd like to do something different. So, how crazy would it be to try to get 2 boats reserved ... and does everyone need park admission? Sorry if this question has been answered before - it's kind of hard to search on such a specific topic!
Thanks in advance.
Rose :)

noone needs park admission. YOu board the boat at the YC marina and technically never go into Epcot.

My DW and I have an Illuminations Cruise booked for 9/30 (with one other DIS-couple)...
We are looking for 2 other couples (or adult individuals) to join us to help split the cost ($141) and have a nice evening on the water...
We would like adults only, we have NOTHING against kids, it's only because we just got back from a 2 week WDW-trip with our 2 & 8 yo boys, so this is our Adult-Get-away (not to mention our 11th anniversary) .
So if you are seriously interested, PM me and we will take the first 2 couples. We can exchange details once we make contact.

Hello! We are getting ready to make reservations for a Wishes Cruise and wondered if there is a trick in which buttons to press to get right through to reservations.
Does anyone know which resorts the boats leave from and how many there are?
We did the Illuminations one last year and wanted to try something different.

If you are staying around Bayside Marina (BoardWalk, Y&B Club, Swan or Dolphin) and if you are so bold, you could always try walking up at around 8pm, and seeing if there are any groups that might consider adding you on their boat. It's a long-shot, but it is Disney and you never know!

I was lucky enough to reserve an Illuminations Cruise on November 9th, 2005. It departs from the Beach and Yacht Club Marina.
Currently, the crew consists of my In-Laws, my wifes sister and her daughter (over 21), my wife and myself. There are a total of 10 seats. I have 4 seats available.
If anyone is interested in the remaining 4 seats, please PM me.

Hello all!
I would like to get an idea if anyone is interested, for an Illuminations cruise booked for Thursday, November 10th, leaving from the Y&B club.
We are three people (DW, DS8 and I). Everyone who books would split the cost equally for the cruise, depending on the number of people that book. Also, I will include the captains’ tip,($40.00) which we all would share.
Children of all ages are welcomed, but they do count as one paying person. So if anyone is interested, please PM me at the DIS BOARDS if interested and I will e-mail you with further details.
First come, first serve! I know how hard it is to book these cruises, so I would like to give everyone an opportunity to share in this magical evening!

I just wanted to post a little report, we were very lucky to get an Illuminations cruise for last week! I booked it 9-10 days out, I don't remember what day now, but it wasn't long before the trip.
We arrived at the dock a little early, so we checked in and walked over to the Boardwalk to look around and pass time. We came back to the marina and met Michael, our captain. He was very, very nice. My kids took to him, the older one talked his ear off, but he didn't seem to mind. We cruised around the lake awhile, by the Swan and Dolphin, the Beach Club and over by MGM. It was fun to see MGM from the water, I hadn't expected that. We saw a firework or two from the beginning of Fantasmic (I assume that's what it was anyway, it was by MGM), and then we made our way over to the spot for Illuminations about 5 till 9 or so. The view was amazing! The cruise was worth every penny, and I hope we can do it again!

I got a pontoon for an Illuminations Cruise for Saturday Dec 10th. I'm taking my 73 y/o mom for her first ever trip to WDW and really wanted an Illuminations cruise for her. I guess I got too excited because I forgot to ask the CM for all the details. He told me it was $234.74 (plus taxes? or not?). Also how much do you usually tip the captain ($50.00?). My mom can get on and off the boat without any problems, but due to the amount of walking at WDW I am renting her a scooter to get around in the parks. Is there anywhere at the marina to safely leave the scooter? He said the boats included snacks now (pretzels, chips, and sodas)? or we could get specialty dining. We will be eating at Marrakesh just before the cruise, so chose only the snacks.
Anyway we're supposed to be at the Yacht Club by 8:00pm that night. There's only the two of us, so we have eight spaces available if anyone is interested. We would just figure the total (inclluding the captain's tip) and split it among however many people we have. Sounds fair? He said I needed to call back 14 days out to verify our ressie and confirm how many people would be with us, in order for them to coordinate the number of life vests needed. Anyone interested in joining us just PM me.

Let me see if I can clear a few things up:
>I got a pontoon for an Illuminations Cruise for Saturday Dec 10th. I'm taking my 73 y/o mom for her first ever trip to WDW and really wanted an Illuminations cruise for her. I guess I got too excited because I forgot to ask the CM for all the details. He told me it was $234.74 (plus taxes? or not?).
Correct, should Total $250.00
>My mom can get on and off the boat without any problems, but due to the amount of walking at WDW I am renting her a scooter to get around in the parks. Is there anywhere at the marina to safely leave the scooter?
Yes, they could leave the scooter down in the dock area by where Breathless is parked. This is out of the way and down in a CM Only area and the scooter will be readily available upon your return.
>He said the boats included snacks now (pretzels, chips, and sodas)? or we could get specialty dining. We will be eating at Marrakesh just before the cruise, so chose only the snacks.
The "Basic" Cruise will include Soda, Water, Pretzels and Chips as of Oct 1st. You can still order additional foods (Cake, Cheese & Crackers, Finger Sandwiches, Dessert Platter, or just about anything from Private Dining.
>Anyway we're supposed to be at the Yacht Club by 8:00pm that night.
Hmmm, this is the only thing that CRO may hever erred, between Thanksgiving and NYE, IllumiNations is "usually" moved to 9:30pm due to the final show of the Candlelight Processional. Arrival time should be adjusted to 8:30pm, but there is NO harm in arriving early, telling the drivers that you are there, then walking around the Y&B, BoardWalk area until departure.
Enjoy your WDW visit! And be sure to tell us all about your cruise!

You need to call 407-939-7529 exactly 90 days before the date you want to reserve. You can determine when to call by using the DIS's priority seating calculator if you CLICK HERE
Since these cruises are so much in demand, start calling about 6:55 am est. If you get a recording that they are not open yet, disconnect and immediately hit redial. If you get the recording thanking you for calling hit #3 right away, as soon as the second recording begins press #2, when the third recording begins press either your reservation number or phone number and finish with the pound sign. Then press #1, then #2. This will take you to a reservationist, if you have to hold do not disconnect or you go to the bottom of the queue.
When the reservationist answers do not make small talk, immediately tell him/her that you want to reserve the 8PM specialty cruise for such and such date.Do not ask to reserve an Illuminations cruise or you will waste time hearing that there is no such thing. After you get your reservation you can talk all you want, but these cruises are very difficult to reserve and seconds count when thousands of people are competing for only 5 boats.
Couple of Questions...
1) is it still 90 days out (I know dining went to 90+10)
2) When we ask for the 8 pm specialty cruise, there is no way they would confuss this with the WIshes Cruise right??
3) Is there anyway to skip entering in your phone number or reservation number to be faster into the queue?
Thanks bunches!!

Press I believe 3, to say that you are either calling from the local orlando area or booking something that is less than 7 days out, that will connect you instantly without having to enter your phone number (which is just used for survey purposes anyway).
I am not sure if it is option 3, you might want to call today and figure out exactly what option it is so you can press it immediatly tomorrow morning, but I believe the sequence is 1,1,3 but I don't remember exactly, it might be 1,3,1 or just 1,3.
Like I said, been a while since I have done it, so call, memorize or write down the sequence (The key phrase to listen for is the "Calling from the local Orlando area or booking 7 days or less out") and choose that option.
Hope that helps.

I have a Wishes Cruise booked for 12/4. My DH, my boys 6 and 4, and then another DISer with her Dad. We have space for four more people. This is for the Pontoon Premium boat, so the music will be piped in. If you have 4 in your party and are interested in sharing the boat (and the cost), please PM me. The boat will be leaving from Wilderness Lodge. I won't know the exact time until I call them, two weeks ahead of time. Our family and possibly the other group of two, are having dinner at Whispering Canyon, beforehand.

2. they know the difference between Specialty and Wishes Cruises
No, they really don't... the past few days, my girlfriend and I have been getting up before 4am (west coast) to get a stinkin' Illuminations Cruise, and followed the instructions in this thread to a T. One time, asked for a Specialty Cruise and the CM went "huh? A what? what's that?" and by the time I said "Pontoon boats that go around the lagoon in Epcot" they were gone.
This morning, my girlfriend tried, and the CM went plugging along, she asked "this is the pontoon boats, and we'll get to see Illuminations, right?" "Oh yeah, absolutely" says the CM... and when she reads back the reservation, it's for a Wishes Cruise.
We must be getting the stupidest CMs on the planet, but quite frankly, this is too frustrating to get up at 4am and try again and again. Ridiculous.
My sister are looking for a wishes cruise December 8 thru 13. Thanks :paw:

How Do You Cheat?
rsmithx was right... call ahead, figure out the sequence that goes for local or within 7 days... I used that method for Illuminations Cruise and for ADR, nobody has ever said "hey, your in Texas and your not within 7 days!"... personally, I don't think the CM knows which buttons we pushed to get to them

OK, please remember Disney has multiple sites that house CRO. One is on Disney Property, one is in Tampa, and one is (I am not sure of the exact location) but I think its in St Louis, or Omaha, or some other remote location.
You may be unlucky enough to be talking to somebody who has never stepped foot on Disney Property. Even those who have, can you imagine being expected to know each and every thing available at WDW? Can you imagine being expected to answer any question about a resort, a restaurant, a theme park, an attraction, the hours, the schedule, the route, the best transportation between two sites, ............. pretty overwhelming don't you agree.
I can understand your frustration, but please cut them a break.

I understand your frustrations. When I called Tuesday the CM I got was very nice but also very frustrating. When I first called and said I wanted a specialty cruise for Dec. 12th he says "Did you want to see the fireworks or Illuminations?" I said "Illuminations" He said "Do you have any packages with us?" I said "no" he said "Ok this'll take a minute. It's very busy first thing in the morning here" So after a few seconds he gets back on the phone "Well sorry to tell you this, but they're all gone". I even practiced the night before! :) Oh well, maybe there will be a cancellation. I don't blame the CM, I was just frustrated with all of the extra questions.

My day to start calling for an Illuminations cruise is tomorrow (Monday-19th). :cool1: I'm so nervous that I won't be able to get one for our time at the world. If I can get one, I would be glad to share. If not, I'm hoping that someone will be willing to share with us. This is a girls only trip.(two adults) My best friend and I are leaving the husbands and children at home this time. (Don't feel too sorry for them, we all went as a family this summer :rotfl: ) My friend has never been on an Illuminations cruise and I would LOVE to be able to surprise her with one. We could go on Dec.18,19,20, or 21. I'll update and let everyone know if I was able to get one. ::MickeyMo

In the beginning of this post it states that you can make a reservation for the Illuminations cruise 90 days from the day you want to cruise. Does this rule remain unchanged? We want to go 2/7/06, so according to the calculator in the beginning of this post, i can book on 11/05/05. My question is, we'll be arriving at Disney 1/27/05, and the 90 day date for that is 10/29/05. can we make the Illuminations resservation on 10/29, or do we have to wait until 11/5? Also, I thought I read somewhere that you can now make your resservations 100 days out. Am I wrong ? Thanks

Since I have had good luck booking I thought I would add my tips... First, the info on page one is excellent! I didnt even have to use the cheater method, meaning I entered in my phone number and not the other option
First open up this page.... What time is it exactly (http://nist.time.gov/) Get your phone ready and hit send at 6:59:56 that way by the time the clock hits 7 your already there, if that makes sense. (maybe you should see how long it takes on your phone to go from hitting send to dialing.. for my phone it takes 5 seconds from the time I hit redial to the time it connects)
Then following the prompts listed on page one... I would hit #3 count to 2(in my head) then hit #2 count to 2 enter phone number (followed by the # sign) count to 2 hit #1 count to 2 then hit #2. I dont even bother listening to the message... I just count off two... and hit the next number...
When they answer Firmly and loudly (coz your talking over them) say I need the 8 pm specialy cruise outta of the Y&BC for what ever date (it kills me that you have to say the date... like the people who are calling at 7 am want another day, but YOU DO need to say the date) and please HURRY!!!
I hope this helps some of you. I am three for three (2 in a row this trip and got the cruise last October also)

We have been lucky enough to book a wishes cruise for Christmas time. If we decide to ask for fellow DIS-ers to join our cruise, do we have these folks send us payment ahead of time? I mean, what if they just don't show up, and then we are stuck because we COULD have given the spots to OTHER fellow DIS-ers? Am I making sense?
Also, how much do you all tip the boat captain? Somewhere earlier it said that the captains were untipped positions, but many other folks are talking about how much each seat is on their cruises, PLUS tip.
Thanks for all the info.

I have hosted 2 boats and been on someone else's cruise. Each time I have not had a problem with people showing up or paying me right at the dock for the cruise and I paid the other hostess at the dock also. I do not know of anyone getting stuck at the dock with payment. Has anyone had this problem? Also if you want to tip the driver that is you choice. We always tip them. Our guests usually just give us money for him on the boat or when we get back to the dock after the cruise so we would hand the driver the tip then. Depends on how good the driver is determines the tip amount. I never tipped the driver personally so I don't know how much was given to him, That was up to my hubby and other hubbies on the cruise, but he was tipped!!
mars315
09-23-2005, 05:11 PM
Thanks NJmouse for your responses. I didn't mean to make it seem like I thought there was a high liklihood that we WOULD get stuck, just wanted to know what others do. Which you nicely told me. That is good to know. I guess it will be fine, since DH doesn't care whether we even get anyone to share or not. But here is a "what if?" We are a family of 4. What if we get 2 parties of 2 each to share the boat with us. That would be 8 total, but the boat holds 10. Would we just split it 8 ways, which would be 31.25 each? Or do we charge the others just 25 each? And whatever THAT answer turns out to be, what if one of the parties of 2 does not show? What do we charge the other party of 2? Do we, at that point, split it 6 ways, which is 41.66? Or do we charge them the original price (8 ways), and we just have to make up the difference?
My head is hurting after that!!!

I wouldn't book an activity unless I'd be happy paying the entire cost myself. If I joined someone else on a cruise they had booked, I'd expect to pay this amount: add the tip to the cost, then divide the total by the number of people on the cruise. Just ask anyone who's interested in joining you what their expectations are. Then decide if you want them to join or not. Don't worry! It's a vacation!
mars315
09-24-2005, 07:34 PM
How much do you tip?
NJmouse
09-24-2005, 09:25 PM
We always prepare to pay for the whole cruise if no one shows up. We figure on how many the boat holds and divide the price by that. Example this cruise costs $250 and holds 10 people so each person is expected to pay $25 ea. If I only get 2 people they still only pay $25 ea. It doesn't matter how many are on the cruise. I can't expect other people to take up the slack of someone didn't show up or if I couldn't get anyone else to join us, that is my problem not our guests. Tipping is up to each person-we normally just collect near the end of the cruise whatever you want to pay, we don't set a price for that. If no one gives my DH would take care of the driver no problem.

When I booked our crusie for Nov 19th the CM was quite clear that it is 10 people total. Regardless of age, size, whatever. 10 people in total no exceptions. We only have 7 people so it will not be an issue for us. The rule and price changes are taking effect as of 10-01-05 according to the CM I dealt with.

I agree with Crazy Hakim; go to the marina and ask. The person you booked with is simply reading directions off of a screen. They don't personally know the capacity of the boat or what it looks like in many cases. The people at the marina are very helpful.

Yes, as part of the Platinum Plan package, your group is entitled to one Specialty Cruise, either Wishes or IllumiNations. Just be aware that smaller parties could possibility share a boat with another Platinum Plan party.

Don't know how to PM, so just will ask here: any room left for four adults?
Thanks.

All,
This just in.......
Breathless, the 1930's Chris-Craft Replica Boat out of Bayside Marina at the Yacht Club, is currently in rehab. This is an unscheduled repair to fix/replace the transmission. It was taken to the dry-dock area yesterday (10/31) and should be unavailable for the next 2 weeks.
Meanwhile a 6th Pontoon Boat will be available for the IllumiNations Fireworks Specialty Cruise, but it will most likely NOT be in the WDW-PLAY, CRO system. If you want to book this pontoon, go directly to Bayside Marina between 10am and 5pm.
More info when it becomes available.

So the new occupancy on the pontoons is 10? Last time we did it, it was 12. I wanted to invite my cousin and his family and that brings us to 11 people, with 2 infants (both right at 1 year at time of cruise) and so we can't do it now? Anyone know?

I am booked through DU. I want to try as well to get an Illuminations cruise. do i need any special information from the TA, or can I just book it and then give her the confirmation number?
Also I really want Feb 3, 2006, tomorrow is my day to call right?!?!?

Iggipolka,
The specialty cruises are a seperate purchase event on a boat.

I would suggest you make the call. (or both of you try, if your TA is familiar with what these cruise are. Better odds.)

HOLY COW!!!
I just booked an Illuminations Cruise!!
My TA e-mailed me that she couldn't get me one this am. So I decided to try tomorrow. Taking the advice from someone on this post, I decided to try a "trial run" to see if I had all of the numbers right. Well the CRO who answered said, Well yes we do have that available!!
Holy Cow , I got it booked for the exact date I wanted (Feb 3, 2006) with one phone call, first time ever trying to do this, and at 4:54 PM. I didn't even have to wake up early!!
Someone must have emptied a whole bag of pixie dust in my lap today!
Even the CRO said,' I 'm excited too! I don't get to book these very much!"
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for all of the wonderful tips and advice on this board! I am smiling from ear to ear!!!

We have a party of seven already, so that would push us over the official limit of 10. However, I remember there being some disagreement earlier in this thread about them stretching this limit to get an extra little one onboard. Shelley, I done this a few nights ago and it was magic. We turned up early as we didn't want to miss it, the boat guy said lets go out early and that was cool. I didn't have a clue what we where in for, only booked it because everyone on this board said it was worthwhile and boy was that good advice. I had also never seen the water pageant before, mad but true and we viewed this on the boat at Wilderness Lodge after leaving from the Contemporary... I stayed in Wilderness Lodge a few years ago and never once noticed this LOL :) Anyway you have a cracking time, I did and so did the whole family, 8 of us on the boat for a very special night. We also had a cracking driver that made sure we got in to the best spots, so much so one of the Boat Police came up and asked him to move a little for the boats at the back to see the water pageant, however no such problems at the Wishes part ;)

Hi, Sorcerer Figment! Our experience has been in the past that the limit is actually 10 Adults plus 2 children, so 12 total. Unless something has changed? You might also check by what age limit are they considering children? I'm sure this is a weight issue as well as space. Good luck and I hope it works out for you!

WDW-PLAY will say "10 ppl" Maximum (PERIOD).
But, at Bayside Marina, IF children are in "the mix" and all 12 can be seated on the boat, the captains should have no problem keeping the family together and not leaving anybody on the dock. But please consider the size of your guests, sometimes even 10ppl is a strain.

Illuminations might be more "special" since I understand it's a great show and the boat puts one "inside the fireworks". Plus we will be able to walk outside our room (at the Poly) and see Wishes,
But my son adores Captain Hook (a lot of boys dig the Pirate thing) so the GG Wishes cruise would be a treat. :Pinkbounc

Hey y'all! I'm actually one of the cruise drivers so it's been fun to read this thread. I do Wishes cruises. I personally think they're the best because you can get just as good a view being inside Epcot of Illuminations, but nothing beats the Wishes view from out on a boat. That show was designed to watch from out there. Plus, you get to see a lot more on the Wishes cruises. We drive you around Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon.
A bit of advice on the cruise-sharing. I know y'all are wanting to cut down on cost and all, but the filling up of a boat makes for a very crowded boat. Yes, they hold ten passengers (twelve if you book the premium boat) but that's max capacity. This means no room for moving around, stretching out, you're all crammed in there. Some of the best cruises I've done have been six or less people. My two favorite cruises so far have been one where I just had a family of four, and another where it was just one couple (who ended up getting engaged on the boat).
If you want to make it the party boat, then by all means, go for it, and have a blast. But just be warned that you'll be in tight quarters, especially once you consider having to put the cooler of sodas, the basket of snacks, and any other private dining food you may order.
If anyone has any Wishes cruise questions, please don't be afraid to ask, I know pretty much everything (except for the details on the actual booking of them)

We have a cruise scheduled for april 25, 2006. You mentioned coolers and snacks. I've read other posts about food being provided. Can we bring our own snack and drinks? Are there any restrictions? like alcohol? We have a party of 5 adults going.
Thanks for your insights

Hey Disney711 - thanks so much for the info! It's great to hear from a CM who can provide such great insight! Maybe we'll get lucky and be able to get you with the Wishes cruise we're trying to book! Happy New Year and maybe we'll see you at the end of January!

A cooler of soda and bottled water is provided, as well as some chips/pretzels. I don't think you'd be allowed to bring your own alcohol and other stuff on board. I've never run into the situation, so I can't say for sure, and I personally don't mind if people show up with a soda or something. But you can order stuff from private dining, I've had people order champagne, wine, beer, Coronas, just about anything.

Thanks 711 We can't wait for our cruise. I wish you were going to be doing the illuminations cruise.
Actually one of the people we "hope" to join us is a friend we made during one of our trips to WDW. He is a cast member and works in fantasyland. We must have met his 4-5 times on our trip last oct-----then I ran into him again over a quick week end trip in dec. We ended up being from the same area and he knew friends of my children. He knows more disney trivia than ANYONE we've ever met. Everytime we ran into him (sometimes on purpose) my husband or one of the people were were traveling with we tried to "stump Bill" He made our trip so much fun. We told him were were all coming down in March---and we were going to study up so we could catch him on something........we can only hope
Thanks again

Hi~
I am interested in scheduling a birthday cruise for my son in October. Can anyone tell me if I can order a cake through private dining? Also, how do I contact private dining to place an order?
Thanks in advance.

Disney information should be able to get you the private dining number. You just have to call private dining at whatever hotel you will be departing from on your cruise. I think you can just do this about a day or so in advance. Just tell them you're doing a fireworks cruise that night, they'll deliver it to the marina.
If you're doing a Wishes cruise, here's a hint. The Grand Floridian has the best cakes. However, I see you're staying at the WL, and they have good cakes, too. I recommend the dark chocolate ganache.

I have to say, for the IllumiNations cruise, I was really glad for the full boat (we had 9 in our boat). It was REALLY COLD that night, and we sat practically on top of each other...not because we were crowded (we weren't at all crowded), but to try to keep warm! Thank goodness our driver stole some extra blankets for us! Oh, and what a great show IllumiNations is! And what a great group of CMs running the boats!
Remember, if you have trouble booking one of these cruises, please show up at the docks and ask if there's openings. The CMs say that there's many times people don't show up for their cruises, and I know that I was ready at one point to start looking for folks on the dock to share our ride (thank goodness our DISers finally showed up!). And don't be afraid to ask the marina CMs if they'll go over the official limit of 10 if you have small children with you...I have it on good authority that the final decision of how many goes out on a pontoon boat is left up to the captain!

I noticed there are sites for sharing cruises through March. Will they post a link for April soon? We would be interested in sharing a cruise on April 4, 5 or 6th (3 adults and one child).

I called this morning for our trip and unfortunatly they said the boat only holds 10 ppl and our boat would have 12 so the cruise is out of the picture for us.

It's true, they SAY on the phone that they only allow 10, but I have it on GOOD AUTHORITY that it is completely up to the captain of the boat, and they regularly allow on 12, esp. if the 2 extra are small children. There is NO risk in booking for 10, and showing up with the twins to see if they'll let you on. They will fit them for life jackets right there on the dock. I know you will be told by EVERYONE on the phone that they only allow 10, but they REGULARLY ALLOW 12 if you ask at the dock!

We have a party of seven already, so that would push us over the official limit of 10. However, I remember there being some disagreement earlier in this thread about them stretching this limit to get an extra little one onboard. Has anyone had a recent experience with this or some new information to share? :listen:
They allow up to 10 adults and 2 children...I saw them do it! I only had 9 in my party, but could have had more. Talked to the captain, and he said he always allows the little ones, up to 12 total.
On the phone, they will always say 10. Book for that many, then add on at the marina.

I just realized that my 90 days started today!!! So I called and got a boat for 10. If they will not let the extra person on I guess someone can sit it out, which will be dissappointing.
It is $234 which is alot more than the $150 I thought it was, but they said the prices increased and this includes soda and snacks like popcorn.

Is it still 90 days out to get the boat ... I would love to get one for our trip this May (May 26-June 5 ... May 29 would be my best hope.) We will have 5 going and my sister, who will be going to Iraq shortly after our vacation so I want to make this vacation one to remember.
I would hate to find out too late that they changed the rules from 90 days out to 180 days (I got burned when they changed ADR's from 60 to 90 days out one year and who would have dreamed that it is 180 days out now for ADR's ... WOW!!!)
Anyone with the phone number and number sequence to get through to reserve the boat the quickest can PM me ... Thanks

I will say that the Illuminations cruise is much harder to secure(we only saw 6 boats max on our voyage) and a lot more for the Wishes at MK. In fact one night on our stay at POLY we were approached by a cm who had a cancellation and asked if we had any plans for the next hour. We were going to hang out on the beach and watch wishes, instead we got a free cruise!

I just lucked out and got my reservation for the Illuminations cruise on March 30. This is only 85 days out. I just stumbled on this idea but figured I had no chance! It never hurts to try! We are only 3 in our party, so I am wondering if it is better for us to try to find a group to share with or just hog the whole boat up for ourselves? Some of the best times on our trips have been shared with great folks we meet waiting in line or for shows... thoughts?

Is there an official share thread for April?
I'm hoping to book two cruises (one for Wishes and one for Illuminations).
Since I have a small family; just son and I; I'd be happy to share with other DISers.

Here's my question:
If Illuminations begins at 9, do I really request the 8:00 cruise and not the 9:00 one?
Thanks in advance!
When I called, I asked for a "specialty cruise". At that point I was asked if we wanted to see Illuminations or Wishes. I said Illuminations and the CM checked availability and booked it. She said I have to call 14 days prior to my date and confirm the start time for Illuminations. We have to be at the Yacht Club marina at 8pm if Illuminations is at 9pm and our cruise will start at 8:30. Anyone know why you have to be there a half hour before cruising?

Because it is much more than just a Fireworks Cruise. You depart early and cruise around Crescent Creek and Crescent Lake, pass by MGM Studios, and BoardWalk, prior to pulling in under the bridge.

Yes, ask for the 8pm specialty cruise. They will adjust the time to coincide with the fireworks times.
We got there a little early for ours (Illuminations was at 9:30, we were there at 8:15). Cap'n Mike said that we can leave the dock anytime we wanted, cruise around the lake looking at the resorts until time to park under the bridge for the show. Then our captain took us on an additional round to see the countries after the show. It was a great ride!
