Mad2Scrap - I will have the same problem. You need to start dialing at 3:55am (and that will be 6:55am Florida time). With the Illumination cruise it shouldn't take too long to find out whether you got it or not (not as long as CRT at least) and then I plan on going back to bed and try another day (if I need too).

We have a Wishes Fireworks cruise scheduled on May 28th. We are looking for someone who has an illuminations cruise on the 24, 25, or 27 of May, and would like to also see the Wishes Fireworks. We would be willing to share our boat if you share yours. There are only two of us and we are only looking to add one other couple or a small family. :firefight

If anyone is lucky enough to get booked on a cruise for any time the week of June 25th through July 1st (except the 28th when we're going to Cirque de Soleil!) and would like another family to join, please let me know. If I do not get lucky to book our own cruise :sad2:, we (five of us) would like to join you. :wave2: I will begin making my call the weekend of March 25th.
Is three someplace else I can go to solicit riders for the Illuminations cruise?

DH and I would love to do an Illumination cruise on our October trip. We have not set exact dates yet, but will most likely be going Columbus weekend. Just curious if we can find 8-10 other people to book an Illuminations cruise with. The Pontoon boat hold "10 comfortably, up to 12" people for 140.84 + tax. With just 10 people it will only cost around $15 per person to do the cruise!!! So....if you are interested in possibly booking this cruise with us, send me a PM and we'll set a date and get things going!

Hello all, I am a newbie at this. My husband, 2 daughters, and myself, will be traveling to Disney the week of 6/14-20. We will also be traveling with my parents, who are celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary the week before we are there. I am very interested in booking one of the speciality cruises, however, being new at all this, I am a little confused. Is the cost of cruise split by all on the cruise? How do you hook up with someone else and book together?
Sorry if these questions have been asked and answered before. :earsboy:

Look on the first page of this thread and you will see links for people who have booked and/or people wanting to share. You're still too far out, but they update the thread as time goes on. Right now June is the latest you can book so June is the last month that has a link.
I don't think you book together. One person books but you can tell them how many you will have on the boat. You have to give them a credit card number to hold your reservation, but they don't charge the card until your cruise.

Yes you can. The first page of this thread has a lot of good information, also a link to a calculator that will tell you what day you can begin trying to book.

Regarding the lifevest - children are required to wear the lifevests at all times, adults do not. But there are enough lifevest on board for everyone. I know when we did the cruise, all the kids had to wear lifevest. It is a Coast Guard requirement. If your kid is going to have a problem with it, maybe you can try and prepare her, so she isn't so upset. The kids didn't have a problem when we went and just got use to it. Good luck. :)

Did you have any problems with the smoke from the fireworks? We have booked a fireworks cruise for June, I was really excited when I got the reservation, but I've seen posts where people complained about the smoke. I don't think it would bother me, but I'm not so sure about my niece.

Terri,
It is basically the luck of the draw, or how about "the answer my friend is blowing in the wind"
You cannot predict what way the wind will be blowing, the night of your cruise. Can it affect your view or your comfort, sure, but so can the rain or even the cold. But I would not let this possibility stop me from doing an IllumiNations Cruise.

I'm planning a WDW trip for my extened family of 8 during March 2006; hoping for an Illuminations cruise for the 13th, 14th, or 12th...in that order. Is anyone else planning this far out that would like to join us?!?! Group includes DD11, DS8, DH, and myself, plus DSis, DBIL, and Mom and Dad. Native Illinoisians. (Is that even a word?) I figure if we both try 90 days out one of us would be sure to get it! Has anyone booked lately...do the instructions on top of this thread still work with those exact numbers? I'm also not sure how sharing payment goes, but I figured whosever credit card it was on, the other group would send money beforehand so no-one has to worry about cancellations. Is that how most people do it? TIA...hope to hear from someone!

It's changed a little from the way it says on the first page. Here is what I did when I made mine a couple of weeks ago.
Start trying a few minutes before 7:00am Eastern time. Dial: 407-939-7529 then 3 for boat rentals Next if calling from the Orlando area or visiting in the next 7 days press 1, if reserving for upcoming trip press 2. Next enter phone or reservation number followed by the pound sign. Next if have been before press 1, if not press 2. Next if you have been more than 4 times in the last few years press 1 if not press 2. After that it takes you to a live person. I hope this helps, I know it sounds confusing!

There is really no reason to have a Wishes thread. The Wishes Fireworks Cruises are much more available since there are a lot more boats dispatched from Wilderness Lodge, The Contemp, The Grand and The Poly. You should not have a problem securing one of these, aside from any major holidays (like 4th of July).
While at Bayside Marina there are only a total of 6 boats (including Breathless).

:umbrella: I know they say the cruise could be cancelled due to inclement weather. How often does this happen? Is it any different for the pontoons vs. the Breathless? If in doubt that night, is there a way to find out before leaving for the marina? Thanks for your insight! :boat:

On our wishes cruise last summer nobody had food or drink. I don't know if it is prohibited or not, I don't imagine they would fuss too much if you had a mug, but for such a short cruise food doesn't seem necessary. :teeth:

I found my answer! Here you go for anyone else that wants to know! I found this on allears.net.
Pontoon Boats -- Another option for an IllumiNations cruise is a 24-foot pontoon boat, which seats 10 comfortably. The pontoon has a canopy, is roomier, and has some drink holders. When you rent either boat, it belongs to your party for the show; meaning the only people there will be the ones you've invited! The price for a pontoon IllumiNations Cruise starts at $140.84 + tax, for a maximum of 12 people. (Not covered under any of WDW package plans.) Cost includes a driver. Optional food and beverage items are available through Yacht Club Private Dining at 407-934-3160. You may not bring your own food or beverages on board.
sunny04
04-11-2005, 04:42 PM
I was also thinking of doing the Pontoon Boat in the future...for anyone who has already done this, does the canopy of the boat block the view of the fireworks at all???
eeyoresmountainpals
04-11-2005, 07:43 PM
We went on an Illuminations cruise last October. The canopy covered the driver and the back area of the boat but we sat in the front (and probably all ten could fit in the front if you had ten people - we only had five.) We had a totally unobstructed view from the front of the boat. Quite honestly, you are far enough back from the fireworks that I think even under a canopy you would still have a great view!)
This cruise made a wonderful memory for our entire family. We did it as an "un-birthday" celebration for our three boys, complete with cake! It's something they'll never forget (and neither will my husband and I)!!!!
One note for anyone having problems getting reservations - - - KEEP TRYING! We didn't find out about these cruises until about a month before our trip. I called and there was nothing available. But with persistence we ended up with reservations for one five days before our trip. Someone had cancelled! So if you can't get a ressie right now, don't give up!!

We went on the Breathless two years ago, and I have to tell you it was the best way to watch the Epcot fireworks. It was beautiful. It was my DH, my DS and me. What a beautiful boat, the captain was wonderful with my son, and it was a very special memory that we will never forget. We are trying to book it again for July, but so far no luck. JAKESMOM1....I have heard great things about the captain on the Breathless. We are lucky enough to have it booked for June 16. I was wondering if it is the same captain every time :confused3 ? AND how much did you tip him? I want to make sure he feels appreciated and am not sure what guidelines to follow. THANKS

Hi Disney Hot Mama,
Thanks for the invite but we will be in DW July 5th - 10th. I am sure once your DH enjoys the ride, he will forget about the cost. Have a great time!!
We Luv M+M , I think we tipped him about $30, we thought $10 per passenger was good. Perhaps some other past riders can give you some idea as well. You won't regret the ride, well worth it, enjoy !!

There is a seven guest maximum. We are four adult females and 1 adult male. We have space for 2 more people to share. The cost of the cruise, plus 6.5% tax, is $190.89, divided by 7 = $27.27 per person + tip.
You must be at the Yacht Beach Marina by 8:30 p.m. and food and/or drink is not permitted on this boat.
Please e-mail me at lcjones70@my.tupperware.com if you are interested in joining us! :cheer2:

Hello! Has anyone ever ordered food for the Illuminations cruise?
We are spending the day in Epcot the night of our cruise... can anyone suggest which way to get over to the YC... also should we park there for the day so that we don't have to walk through the herd of people leaving the park?
Thanks!

I'm sorry but from reading the beginning of the thread where it tells you how to accomplish booking, it states to ask for an 8oclock specialty cruise.
Illuminations doesnt start until 9 I think usually so is this old data or is this still the recommended time and way to begin the booking?

I can't help with the food question, but I would go out through the International Gateway ( I think it's between Great Britan and France) and walk to the Yacht Club dock, it's not far. You could take a boat, but like I said it's not far and an easy walk. Having a car there is a good idea, if it's allowed. You will be brought back to the Yacht Club dock after your cruise and I think it would be a lot easier to just get in your car and drive. You brought up something I hadn't thought of. I don't know how we'll get back to POFQ from there, I'm thinking we'll take a bus to Downtown Disney then another bus or the boat back.

Great... now at least I know where to head to get the boat. I just hung up with DVC to make a reservation at the Yacht Club Gallery for dinner so that we can just enjoy the cruise and not worry about bringing food.
So I think we are all set.... until I think of something else I forgot.
Thanks so much!

Yes, it still is the recommended time and way to begin the booking.
As it says in the beginning of the thread Something like after you book the cruise, then say you want to see illuminations and they will adjust the time accordingly. (Illuminations is at 9:30 when the CP in being performed)

It is $150 to rent the entire boat (1-12 people) for about an hour. Typically 8:30 to 9:30 when Illuminations are at 9. BUT since you are going in December, Illuminations are at 9:30 so the time frame is 9:00 to 10:00.
I am not sure what pp is in your post.
you can start booking 90 days from the day you want to go, so you are a lttle early to ask. As you can see on this board, there are threads for April, May June and July right now. When the time comes, you can ask on the December board, or, if you are lucky and get a ressie, you can offer to share on the same thread.

Since you get on the boats at a resort, do you have to have admission to the park? We are thinking of doing it on our day off from the parks.
Also, can you request where to get on? I saw that they had lots of pick-up resorts listed, so if we're staying at VWL, can we request to be picked up there?
Thanks.

You are never "released" into a park so you don't need park admission.
Anything can be "arranged" ($$)... but its a relatively simple matter to get to the regular "pick-up area(s)" so I wouldn't worry about that.

Make a left at the Contemporary and go about 3 1/2 miles south to Epcot....
(Just Kidding)
In order to get on an IllumiNations Cruise you will have to get to Bayside Marina which is part of the Yacht Club Resort. In fact, it's straight thru the Yacht Club Lobby, then just off to the left, NEXT to the Lighthouse Pier. They prefer to have all groups/parties meet at Bayside Marina instead of BoardWalk, sine they have a dedicated dock for loading and unloading.
Arrgh.. these phone trees kill me...
Anyway I successfully booked my second choice this morning, a fireworks cruise for Magic Kingdom, Thursday, August 25.
I really wanted the Epcot fireworks cruise and will try back for cancellations.
This is our 15th wedding anniversary and Epcot has special meaning, but I'm happy to have gotten the MK trip at least.
Dialing pattern this morning was:
(407) 939-7529 - 3 - 2 - home phone number - # - 1 - 1
Anybody want to trade MK for Epcot?

I have a specialty cruise booked for June 7th (the first night we are at WDW) leaving from Disneys Wilderness loudge for wishes.
I have a couple questions.
(1.) I was told by a Disney rep that the boat driver will pick you up at any marina and drop you off at the same one. Is this true? If so which would work best for drop off nearest the Pop Century, where we are staying? I might decide to drive our rental car to Animal Kingdom since it has late EMHs untill 9pm. The park will be closed when we are done with thw boat ride, so what would be the best route to take here? I also have events going on at Fort Wilderness on or LAST day we are at WDW which include a carriage ride and Hoop-De-Doo musical reveiw so maybe it would be best to go over there to learn the route right from the start, but then I'm still wondering how to get back to Pop Century since I will have already return my rental car earlier the last day we are there.
(2.) Everyone talks about the illunimations specialty cruise but I hear little about wishes at MK.... Is one better than the other by boat?

I got my Illuminations cruse this morning!! I am so excited as this will be part of my sister and brother in law's vow renewal celebration!
Had the cell phone and the house phone going and got through at 6:59 AM.
Something to note, when they ask for your reservation # or home phone # enter your home phone. On the house phone I got through first and entered the reservation #, and they they asked for the home phone #. On my cell I entered the home phone # and it went right to the next step and that was the line that a cast member picked up on first!

Why are you worried?
The BoardWalk is walking distance from the Yacht Club, or you can take a Friendship Boat across Crescent Lake. There is really no marina at the BoardWalk, there is a large dock for the Friendship Boats, but it was never convenient to load a pontoon boat at this dock, so it is preferred to have all of the boats at one location, The Bayside Marina at the Yacht Club.
The time? Arrive at Bayside Marina between 8:00pm and 8:15pm.
Have a great trip and enjoy the fireworks!

I'm worried because this is my first trip on site and I am not overly familiar with the locations of the resorts. I have looked at what maps I can find but they are few and far between and having never been to any of the resorts I don't have a feel for the distance between them. I wouldn't know if it takes a boat ride, a bus ride or a long walk from one resort to another. I did confirm yesterday with Disney that we catch the pontoon at 8:00 at the Yacht Club. And our fellow passengers have confirmed with me that they will be there (and they paid in advance so no worries there) so we are set to go! :bounce:

I know I should be THRILLED that I obtained a boat for the illuminations cruise on Sept 2, and I am. We are staying at the Dolphin. The reservation person told me to go the Yacht and Beach Club and pick up the boat there. Seems like it would be easier to pick the boat up at the Boardwalk. Any suggestions other than "smile and be glad you got the boat?"
Crazy Hakim
06-06-2005, 01:34 PM
It is not easier to pick up the boat at BoardWalk, because the pier there is not made for pontoon loading and unloading, it is a Friendship Boat Dock. It is much easier to board the pontoon boats at Bayside Marina, and it is really not that much farther in distance from the Dolphin, in fact I would bet Bayside Marina is closer to the Dolphin than the BoardWalk Pier.
IMHO

Yes, they got new pontoon boats that are a bit longer than the old boats and it is no longer safe to park at the end of the BoardWalk Pier. All boats are now dispatched from Bayside Marina. BUT, after IllumiNations you can still be dropped off at any dock that is still operating.

My DD and I enjoyed an Illuminations cruise on Tuesday, June 7 aboard the Breathless. I was able to book this cruise about a month out because I kept calling and someone cancelled. When we arrived at the dock that night, we found out one of the pontoon boats wasn't even going out because that party had cancelled. The moral of this story is to KEEP CALLING! Even after you have arrived at the resort, keep checking every day to see if someone cancels at the last minute.
Good luck!!

You don't book the time of the cruise. The cruise is an IllumiNations Specialty Cruise, the time is determined by the Fireworks. You arrive between 8pm and 8:15pm.

Becky - Glad you can join us. Sounds like a three-generation family reunion. How wonderful. We leave from the Yacht and Beach Club Dock, I think at 8. I'll obviously double check and recheck. I know Disney will charge me - even if Illuminations is cancelled, but we still take a boat ride. But, I wouldn't feel right doing that to you. If it's pouring down rain, and your Dad doesn't want to be in a plastic poncho in 90 degree weather with 100% humidity, why would you put him in the boat? We can talk money later... maybe some other adult people will want to join us because we sound "fun" and normal. I'll put you down as THREE for sure. We are staying at the Dolphin. Yes, you can pay Room Service Prices. Disney Policy you cannot bring your own. Most drivers would not mind if you carried a drink (in a plastic cup) over from The Crews Cup or Ale & Compass Lounge.
>I've heard the Illuminations cruise can be very smoky due to the fireworks. >Is this true???
You are docked and cannot move. There is always the chance that you will be downwind and it can get smokey. Does it happen every night, of course not. Is it possible, yes. Would I NOT book a cruise because of this possibility? No way.
>Also, what is the cancellation policy?
The policy is 24 Hours in advance.

illuminations cruise july 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
yes i know i know way way way too far in advance but just want to register interest in sharing a cruise with a friendly all american family .....
Im typing this from dear old bonnie scotland and as you will appreciate booking up things like this is nigh on impossible from my side of the atlantic , with time differences etc etc etc ...
my family are coming back to disney in july 2006 ..arriving july 6th for two weeks staying pop century ..were all fully booked up so now the quest to book the extras that made our last visit ....july 2000 so memorable...
one of the highlights was an illuminations cruise that we shared with the hellwig family ... thats marla hellwig who is a mod on the dis ....
we met beforehand for dinner then enjoyed a really wonderful evening
this was all only possible for us through the ability of that wonderful lady marla to secure a illuminations cruise booking...and then sharing her good fortune ..
hence the reason for this advance request ...
we are a party of four scots , myself my wife cathy her best friend gill and our daughter meghan ..
so if there is anyone oot there prepared to do the phoning and would like to share the cruise with us and would like to meet a handsome scotsman, though i cant guarantee ill be wearing my kilt..but you never know ...then bear us in mind
cheers the noo
and best wishes from bonnie scotland

Looking to share! (or mooch, if you've scored a ride) :love1:
We are a group of 6 (four adults & two delightful kids ages princess:6 and pirate:4) who are looking to share the cost of an Illuminations cruise with up to 4 additional passengers. Our preferred dates are Saturday, December 17 or Tuesday, December 20. We will be at WDW December 17-21, 2005.
We are all non-smokers, non-drinkers and want to keep this a family-friendly ride. Please PM me if you're interested in joining us!
If we hook up now, we can have everyone calling for reservations in September... :grouphug:
I'll post again when the December thread gets started.

October 12 is the exact date I was going to try for - either Illuminations or Wishes Cruise - I think I'm going to try for Illuminations first.
We have younger children - 3 DDs - 8, 5 and the youngest turns three on October 15 - I was not going to add birthday stuff on - from what I hear, the extras are not worth the additional cost - oh yeah, total number in party is 7 including the 2 year old -
My girls would get a kick out of celebrating a 13 year-old's birthday -
But I have no idea if I can get the ressie . . .

IllumiNations starts at 9PM. If Wishes is on at the MK, there will be a cruise for that, but the time depends on park hours.

I'd like to do this cruise on our last night there, however I'm thinking I should start calling on my 90 day earlier in the week. That way if I can't get one for that last night I'll still have an earlier one. Did that make sense?
Anyway can I do that? If I get one for the last night can I just cancel the first one?

Looking for anyone with room for illuminations cruise on July 10th, 2 adults, 2 children (8 and 6).
I swear that I have read through the long Illuminations cruise thread and really never found my answer. Hoping that someone could help. :flower:
I tried getting an Illuminations cruise and they were booked each time I called. I ended up with a Wishes cruise instead.
Has anyone done both? Is there a reason that EVERYONE seems to want the Illuminations Cruise? Is one better than the other? Is the wishes worth the expense? If Illuminations is much, much better, is it possible to eventually get one if we call everyday?
Thanks in advance for your help! :cheer2:

This may help some people...
I called this morning around 9:30 and was still able to get an Illuminations cruise. When I originally asked her, she said they were sold out - but it seems they only check the pontoon boats. I asked it there was another boat that goes out and she found the breathless boat. Maybe trying asking for breathless boat if no pontoon boats are available.

Does anyone know the current cost of the Illuminations cruise? I called today to find out other information (our trip isn't until November) and the CM said the cheapest one was $234, but I thought that was high? I had trouble understanding her, so I didn't ask her to clarify it again. I didn't specify which boat I'd like, but the $234 is higher than the prices I found in this thread.
Thanks!

That is what my cruise is also. It includes boat, driver, snacks, water, music and whatnot. I asked if that could be taken off because we will have eaten dinner at Boma a couple of hours prior and won't be hungry.
They said the couldn't take it off but go to the marina and just tell them you don't wan it and want the basic and they would probably accomodate. Said the card isn't charged, just as a guarantee hold.

Yes Connors' dad is right the prices have increased for cruises starting 10/1 :sad2: :sad1:I have spent almost 2 hours on the phone thismorning trying to figure this out. I am just so glad I asked because they did not offer any pricing when I booked until I asked. I have finally talked to a supervisor and this is what I've got.
Pontoon basic--187.79+tax--includes boat, driver, music of fireworks show, water, coke, diet coke, sprite, and bagged snacks (chips, pretzels, popcorn)
Pontoon celebration--211.26--includes all above plus decorations (banner, balloons) NO CAKE....the previous celebration cruises included cake.
If you want additional items they must be set up throught the dinning services of the marina you are leaving from--things like cake, alcohol ,pizza, and other items
The package with nothing but boat and driver is no longer avail.....
I figure these have got to be some really fancy chips for a $47 price increase :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :earseek:

Just a word of encouragement to those still looking for cruises inside the 90-day window...cancellations DO occur!
We're 45 days out from our arrival, and before last week I didn't realize just how difficult it would be to get a fireworks cruise. I decided I'd just start calling every day to check on cancellations; this afternoon was my first call.
I gave the CM the dates we were staying, and asked if she had anything at all on those days...SHE DID! So now my family is booked on a Wishes cruise for 9/1...woo hoo!
So don't give up...keep calling...Disney magic is there!

Just got off the phone, spoke to a wondeful CM. He read through all his information and gave me the whole rundown.
He said, and this one actually took me by surprise, that there are 2 boats only now going to Illuminations. 3 if you include the breathless. These are the larger boats. Maybe this is new starting October 1st with the price change. If this is accurate it will be super hard to get a cruise now with only 2 available.
They don't offer a base cruise anymore without food. Its kind of a one price fits all type thing
If you want to see fireworks at the Magic Kingdom the price is 187.79 for up to 8 people (because they have the smaller boats, he didn't say how many go over there) and includes popcorn, pretzles, chips, water and soda - including coke, diet coke and sprite, your driver, music and of course the boat.
The next one is the base cruise at Illuminations, again only 2 pontoons and the breathless. This is 234.73 and includes the driver, boat, music and snacks mentioned above.
The next level is the celebration cruise with the the above and decorations, this runs 258.21.
Hopefully that helps some!!

I was at Bayside Marina yesterday and spoke the Captain Scott. This info is accurate and was just announced yesterday to the drivers. FYI, there will still be 5 pontoons and Breathless and Breathless will NOT include any drinks and snacks.
As far as the "music" I think that is more of a "Wishes" issue, since at IllumiNations you can clear hear all of the soundtrack and music.
One final note, Captain Scott assured me that under no circumstance would an IllumiNations Cruise return to Bayside Marina before the entire performance has concluded. He said that he has heard some guests say that they were told that you must be sure not to depart too early in risk that the show may be delayed and that the boat MUST return exactly 60 minutes after its initial departure. He said this is laughable and that the cruise driver's sole purpose is the view IllumiNations in it's entirety with the guests. Don't ever worry that you may miss the show, or have to leave it early due to any sort of time restraints.

Actually, that is not a bad price for the Wishes cruise. If you break that down it is right under $25 per person. We did the Magical Gatherings cruise and it was truly magical seeing the fireworks from the lake.
So all Wishes cruises now include the music, cause I thought before some boats did not. We just watched Wishes from the GF marina and it just wasn't the same w/o the music.
I also wonder if they would accommodate someone with food allergies - substitute other foods... I know the WDW Mickey pretzels aren't safe for peanut allergies. Says may contain on the package.

For you guys looking for a unique WDW experience, this show is awesome.
Crazy Hakim is correct. According to our Captain Scott (the best) the Illuminations specialty cruises NEVER return before the show ends. Scott said this is a RUMOR that has been around for years. We booked the cruise for 8 pm. Got there at 7:45 & were told to come back at 8:10 to complete the paperwork (read PAY). We were on the boat and cruisin' around by 8:15. Sailed around the lakes up past Dolphin, Swan and MGM Studios before going to EPCOT about 8:50pm. Parked under the bridge with a perfect view. A few minutes after the show ended we headed back to the Yacht Club, never in a hurry. So IMHO there is NO 50 minute or 1 hour time limit for the Illuminations cruise. This beats crowding around the lagoon an hour early when it's 90 degrees, even for $200 bucks, and if you spend the day at the pool, you don't even have to burn a day on your park hopper! :wave2:

id be happy to share a cruise with the two of you but alas dont know if you saw my original posting but one we fly back to scotland on the 20th after a two week stay also the chances of me being able to book one are remote..with time differences etc etc and trying to phone from scotland my chances of acquiring a cruise arent very good...
back in 2000 we managed to team up with an american family who managed to phone and book it ...
it really was a remarkable experience my then 4 year old daughter who was always terrified of fireworks before that time.. whole attitiude to fireworks changed from seeing that show ....just last night we dug out pictures we had from then and she immediately said dad you will get us on a cruise again ....
hence looking for kind hearted family who would like to share the cost of a boat but are prepared to do the booking ....

I don't believe this....I want to cry! :sad2: Back towards the end of June on my 90 days out I booked the Illuminations cruise for the four of us. Well I went to call Disney to adjust a couple of our dinners for ADR and at the end the CM asked if there was anything else she could help me with so I double checked on a tour that we are booked for, which she comfirmed and then I had her check for our cruise and she said that we are NOT booked. I gave her our confirmation number and our name and it's NOT coming up. :badpc: :badpc: I was so upset and still am. This was the cruise that we were going to celebrate our "EVERYTHING " together. Mostly it was for our 10th anniversary, which was supose to be a surprise for my husband. He never knew nothing about this. Everything was starting to look up for us since we had the past 2 months of bad news; and now this happens. Started with my 5 year old really really sick and in the hospital and then us losing a child, and then about a week after all that I lose my grandfather. I haven't told the kids yet about us not doing the cruise since they knew about it in the beginning. Only hubby didn't know.
The CM told me to try calling back towards the beginning of September to see if anyone cancelled.
I'm sorry for the rant, I just needed to come out a take a breath and get this off my chest. Thanks for listening as I feel better, and I can still see the illuminations....just on land, and I will still have my family by my side.

I am so sorry! I know how disappointed you must be because I am very paranoid about our cruise being swallowed up by the Disney computers! :guilty:
I don't know if it makes any difference, but have you called 407-WDW-PLAY instead of dining? Maybe the screens are different? I haven't asked Dining to look at my cruise ressie, and I know Dining could see our Family Magic Tour, but maybe for some reason the dining computers just don't pull up the cruises?
If it makes you feel any better when I called about our cruise the CM I spoke with in Recreation told me if a cruise is cancelled they make a note of who called to cancel it etc. so maybe they can look and see what happened. If somebody else gave them the wrong confirmation # to cancel accidentally maybe they can still fix it?

"Specialty Cruises"
I know alot of people that would like to go out
On an Illuminations Cruise but the Boats are
Booked or are too expensive
So the next best way is to "Share a Boat"
I am working on Booking a Speciality Cruise
for "Mid to Late Sept." and was wondering:
Has anyone ever set a price per person
I am thinking of having eight guests
8 Guests @ $25 per person = $200
The additional amount collected would be
For all my time and work in making the reservations
Collecting the money and co-ordinating everything
My spouse and myself would then go at no charge
I would be Booking the Illuminations Cruise
Giving a CC Deposit & paying by Credit Card
Getting a confirmed cruise: date - time - location
Collecting the money & Sending out confirmations
Q:
How much do you tip the Captain/person who drives the boat?
We understand that the boat goes out in light rain but
What happens if it storms bad & the cruise is cancelled
:fish:

More than likely all the dates for this time period are sold-out. You can look for cancellations, but alot of times that is only a week or so before the trip, so it wouldn't give you alot of time to set-up a group.
Also, you don't pay a deposit when you book the cruise. They only need a Credit Card to guarantee the cruise & only charge you if you don't show up. When you arrive for the cruise you can either pay with Credit Card or Cash.
Tip for the driver is usually around $20-$30. More if he makes your evening memorable.
Good Luck with trying to find a boat this late out.

I didn't do it this way and I don't think most people do it this way. I booked the cruise, taking the risk that my family would have the boat to ourselves. When I was able to fill the boat I charged everyone 1/12th (there were 12 of us including 3 kids) of the total charge, including tax. Everyone, including the kids, paid an equal share. We all put in cash while on the boat for a nice hefty tip. I think we tipped $10/family. So with 5 families that was a nice tip but he was a great captain!

I too booked the cruise Planning to have the cruise to ourselves
When I came across this thread I thought it would be nice to share..
I have to know that the people will be going and how much to budget
I agree it's nice to share cruises (I have one booked on 9/24), but I'm just wondering why you are expecting other passengers to pay for your way??
I know you run the risk of people not showing up, but if you were planning on doing it anyway, it shouldn't make a difference.
I invited people to join on my cruise, but I'm budgeting for the whole cost, just in case someone doesn't show-up.
Hope you have fun on your cruise!

The way I did it was I asked people to send me a check for their share of the ride. I guess the risk is their's then (in case I hadn't actually booked the trip and they showed up to find no boat). But we emailed several times, I think we got familiar with each other and gained some trust. I asked this board how people handled it before I decided how to do it. I am pretty trusting as I think most people are.

DH and I agreed that we would not ask our guests for money up front. If they show up we will be thrilled to have them along, if not, then we will have the boat to ourselves! We decided that it would be worth the expense for just us and DS to go - other guests are welcome but not mandatory.
I wouldn't ask my guests to foot the bill for my family because organizing it and getting up early to call for a reservation wasn't a big deal, and if others share with us they are really helping us by reducing our out of pocket costs.

Can I suggest that you ALWAYS get a cell phone number from all sharing parties? Be sure to touch base with each party the day before, remind them that you want to meet at 8pm at Bayside Marina. Also, determine a "drop-dead" time, basically at what time are you instructing the driver to depart from the marina.
There is nothing worse than standing at the marina with 3/4 of your group and not knowing where and when the remaining people are.

I've posted this on the CP threads, but so far, no responses, so I thought I'd try it here...hey, can't hurt.
Has anyone ever done both the CP dinner package and an Illuminations cruise on the same evening? I hope to have an early dinner, then catch the 6:45 CP (which should get out around 7:30-7:45ish). IF I get a cruise (yeah, a reach, I know!), would it be do-able to get from the American Pavilion to the boat dock where Illuminations cruises leave from (is that Bayside Marina?)? How long does it take to walk from point A to point B? Take into consideration huge holiday crowds.
Oh, by the way, if I get a cruise, I'll share...there's only 5 of us. 3 adults, 2 teens.

Just thought I'd share, I we changed our trip dates last week, and I thought I'd ask about cruises just in case. Illuminations cruises were booked of course, but I had my choice of 3 different days for a Wishes cruise! I believe it was 8/29, 8/30 and 9/2 but I'm not sure now. I took the one on 8/30.
Hoping this helps someone!

Illuminations will be at 9:30 during the Christmas season because of CP. Therefore you would need to be at the marina no later than 8:30. You will be done with CP no later than 7:30. It would take about 30 minutes to walk at an average pace from the American Theatre to Bayside Marina (far end of the YC).

I have, also, joined another family for a wishes cruise. We were originally suppose to have 2 other groups, but one got stuck on the WDW transportation system and the others cancelled at the last minute.
We brought the $$ with us the night of the cruise and gave it to the one who had booked it. I gave her some extra, I felt bad with everyone not showing up...but I didn't have to as she had the same attitude as others. If people show up and join us, great, if not...oh well, they had it to themselves. We did wait around for a little bit for the family who was stuck on wdw transportation trying to get to the contemporary.

I see in the original post that the Illuminations cruise will accomodate 10 adults or 12 people if there are children. We have 9 adults, an 8yo, 2yo, and a 1yo, for a total of 12. I was told by reservations I couldn't book as 10 is the maximum. Has anyone been able to book with 12 people? We really wanted to do this.

Just book with 10, then call Bayside Marina a few days before and tell them it will be 12. CRO has strict guidelines that they cannot deviate from. The pontoon boats definitely can fit 12 ppl as long as some are children.
The two front seating areas seat three adults each comfortably, the remaining will sit in the back near the driver. e-mail me your e-mail address if you would like to see detailed photos of the pontoon bats.

Congrats on getting an Illuminations Cruise :). I only wish that I could be competing for these on the phone lines in the morning. I work midnight shift and have been working a few days overtime to put some spending money away for our 10th anniversary vacation this November. I get out at 7:30 and my husband has to be in work at 7am most days, so there is no way I can book one this year. If you are looking for someone to share the boat, let me know. We are a 30ish couple with no kids yet who like to have fun. We will be at WDW November 2-17. Enjoy your cruise.

CRO actually gave me the marina number. I called them directly to ask and the lady there said absolutely not. 10 only. I am afraid if I book for 10 and then show up with the two babies they won't let some of us on.

Mom21 ~ It's not just the number that can "fit" on the boat but also how the boat is equipped as far as life vests, etc. I think you are right to assume that if you show up with two babies they will not let all of you board.
Have you thought of trying to get two boats. Yes, more expensive, yes, much harder to book two. But it would give you more room. And if you let them know you're all together they can tie up together for Illuminations and you'll still all be "together!"
Good luck. Hope it all works out for you!

dAISY77 ~ I don't think there is any minimum as long as you're willing to pay the boat cost. It's a flat fee, whether there is one person or ten. How romantic!!!

As a matter of fact, each boat has 13 life Jackets on the boat at all times, they are stored under the seats. For infants and children under 12 thay have additional life jackets at Bayside Marina.

So excited got our cruise for Nov 13th this am. I was surprised there were only 3 boats that go out now too. I asked for the no frills package and she said not anymore. The cost is 234.74 + tax and of course we tip also, this includes soft drinks and snacks now on all boats.
I was also told the max was 10 people which was what I had. 5 adults and 5 children under 8.
I wonder why they cut back??? They should be adding more with the number of people that enjoy these cruises?? Is it seasonal related??

Well I guess I better call and doublecheck on mine then. Hopefully if it has changed then it's a change they made effective with the 10/1 increase and I don't have to worry about it with my cruise on 9/27. But for your sake I hope you just got two people with wrong information and it hasn't changed at all.

OK here is the way it works......
Currently, they only show 3 boats in the system as well so there is no change after October 1. Here is the breakdown and I hope this clarifies everything:
There are 3 pontoon boats available in the system everyday for regular guest viewing of Illuminations.
There is 1 pontoon boat available in the system for concierge to book guest viewing of Illuminations. They did this over a year ago to satisfy a huge guest need at the concierge level. If the boat is not booked 7 days out, the reservation drops in to general inventory and can be sold to any guest who calls DRS.
There is 1 pontoon boat available in the system everyday for the Platinum Plan viewing of Illuminations. Effective October 1, if this boat is not booked 3 days out, they can sell it locally (at Bayside Marina). Unfortunately, we can not make the availability drop in to the DRS system so it will be sold through Concierge and the marina or used for service recovery.
This leaves a total of 5 cruise boats for Illuminations (not including Breathless).
Some of the inventory is set aside for guests to book in advance and some is set aside for close in bookings, similar to how Disney books restaurants.
The information in the system is correct and there is nothing we can do to change it, it is just how the system is set up. The challenge we have is that unlike a restaurant, the guest knows there are only 5 boats so they are wondering where the other two boats are vs. a restaurant where the guest has no idea how they manage the system.
In summary, there are still 5 pontoon boats available, but due to inventory management, there are only 3 showing in the system 90 days out, with a 4th becoming available 7 days out (if not booked by concierge) and a 5th becoming available 3 days out (if not booked by the platinum plan).
I hope this helps everybody understand why it "appears" that only 3 boats are available.
