I just wanted to let everyone know that DF and I have booked a Deluxe Wishes Cruise at 7:30 on January 8, 2008. The cruise will include snacks and drinks, boat and captain. The music from Wishes will also be piped into the boat. So far there are 4 people going. We have space for 4 more if anyone is interested. The cost should total out to about $45 per person. PM me if you are interested!!!
No one can tell me what the "snacks and drinks" are. I got a quote on a Wishes cruise with a 7:15 reception (Capt. hook & Smee) and a boat for the fireworks- Peter Pan greets the boat at return. it was $39. each adult. The CM wanted the name and reservation number of each guest.....Is this what you booked? If not what is the Deluxe cruise?:confused3

Sounds like what I booked - minus peter pan!! I know drinks are just soda and water, dunno about snacks...

What you are referring to is the Magical Fireworks Voyage....this is a grand gathering event. Are you going with a group? Do you have a grand gathering number? This event is not available to "regular" guests.
There is a small dessert reception at the Contemporary...prepackaged desserts...soda, bottled water & coffee

Your cruise is the $275 + tax one (unless you are doing a birthday add on) There is bags of chips, pretzels, Fritos, bottled water & canned soda

Yes, I was told it was a grand gathering-they told me about 4 options, three of them required park tickets and some of our party are not "park people".
When no one can tell me what the snacks are I get leary. It could be anything from a snack size bag of chips and a 20 oz bottle of soda to ???
We needed 8 or more and the whole thing was under 2 hours.
I do not mean to be cheap, I just want value for the $$. When I ask my family to pony up $39.99 (plus 18% Gratuity?) each I want to tell them what we are getting.

We thought it was worth the money...we are doing it again in December...the desserts are nothing to write home about...like I said, prepackaged stuff...brownies, rice krispy treats, chips, pretzels....the cruise was good

Illuminations cruises are a fun and special way to view the Illuminations fireworks at Epcot. These cruises are very popular and require some advance planning in order to get a reservation.
You will tour seven seas lagoon prior to the beginning of Illuminations and be entertained, by your boat's pilot, with Disney trivia and views of the Boardwalk and other resorts, then you anchor beneath a bridge for an unobstructed view of the fireworks. One of the things we enjoyed the most about our Illuminations cruise was being able to just get off the boat and go to our car without fighting the huge crowd that was leaving Epcot afterwards.
Illuminations cruises are technically called "Specialty Cruises". There are 3 levels and prices for these cruises and you can read about them HERE (http://www.wdwinfo.com/recreation/fireworks.htm).
There are only 5 boats available for this activity and they depart either from Boardwalk or Yacht/Beach Club Marina:
Pontoon Boats: Only 4 pontoon boats are available for this cruise. The cost is $150 plus 6% tax for the boat (this includes the pilot). Each pontoon boat will accommodate up to 10 adults or 12 passengers if some of them are children. The cost is not determined by the number of passengers, so sharing a cruise is good idea if you want to reduce cost.
The Breathless: This is a reproduction of a 1930's ChrisCraft Runabout. It will accommodate a maximum of 7 passengers. The cost is $175 plus 6% tax. This boat departs only from the Yacht &Beach Club Marina. This vessel has more speed than the pontoons.
In addition to the basic cost of the cruise, you should allow a gratuity for the Captain. We had 4 passengers on our cruise and tipped our Captain $25. He did a great job and paid special attention to my 6 year old nephew, my dh says now, that he wishes he had tipped him more, because he just made the whole experience wonderful.
How to book an Illuminations Cruise:
You need to call 407-939-7529 exactly 90 days before the date you want to reserve. You can determine when to call by using the DIS's priority seating calculator if you CLICK HERE (http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/pscalc/dispscalc.html)
Since these cruises are so much in demand, start calling about 6:55 am est. If you get a recording that they are not open yet, disconnect and immediately hit redial. If you get the recording thanking you for calling hit #3 right away, as soon as the second recording begins press #2, when the third recording begins press either your reservation number or phone number and finish with the pound sign. Then press #1, then #2. This will take you to a reservationist, if you have to hold do not disconnect or you go to the bottom of the queue.
When the reservationist answers do not make small talk, immediately tell him/her that you want to reserve the 8PM specialty cruise for such and such date.Do not ask to reserve an Illuminations cruise or you will waste time hearing that there is no such thing. After you get your reservation you can talk all you want, but these cruises are very difficult to reserve and seconds count when thousands of people are competing for only 5 boats.
When the reservationist indicates that you have obtained the reservation, tell him/her that you want to see Illuminations. He/she will then make arrangements for your cruise to depart the marina about 1/2 hour before Illuminations begins.
You will be told that they cannot guarantee that you will see Illuminations. They tell you this because, if Illuminations is delayed for any reason, your boat will still return to the marina at the end of your hour. So far, there have been no known instances where Illuminations was not seen.
If you have flexibility in your WDW itinerary, it is best to try to reserve a cruise for the first night you have available. That way, if you don't get the reservation, you can try the next day and the next, if necessary.
If you are unable to secure a reservation for an Illuminations cruise, do not give up. Cancellations happen every day. Keep calling and trying for that reservation, even when you are in WDW. I was told by a captain of one of these cruises that his boat has often sat idle because someone canceled. You can snag a cancellation. I know, because I was lucky enough to get a canceled cruise only 6 weeks before our trip last year.
You can also sometimes find someone who has a reservation already and is willing to share the space and cost of his cruise with you. The Illuminations Cruise Central posts on the Theme Parks board are there to help people match up for these cruises. There is an Illuminations Cruise Central for each month, beginning 3 months ahead of time. Can the OP update this page. The info provided is no longer valid.

Just wanted to put in a note to say that the Breathless II IllumiNations cruise was definitely a high point of our visit last week. Our driver Aaron was so nice, and lots of fun! It was a blast meeting all the CMs/skippers at the Marina (hi, Mike, Mike, Katie (I think....), and new kid (wow, my mind is really going...). I was with a party of very picky, fussy men, and even they were blown away...so much so that they tried to book Breathless for a second night (silly boys, of course they couldn't). If you have a smaller party, and want a really special time, try for the Breathless.

I have the following booked:
December 19th
Grand 1 Yacht 1.5 hour excursion 8:30 pm we will be seeing the Wishes Fireworks.......I have room for 6 people. Off the top of my head I would say it will be $45-50 pp. give or take.
December 22
I have an Illuminations Pontoon booked & the Breathless booked. I have room for 6 more people. We can equally divided the cost pp including tip for the driver.
This is my 3rd year sharing cruises and it has always been a wonderful experience! If you need a reference from a past Dis member who shared a cruise with me...just let me know.
If you are interested...please PM me.
Kristine
edited to add...I didn't realize how many people fit on the Grand 1, so I actually have room for 6 more. Price down to $45-50 pp.
Hi, I'm new to the forum.
I will be bringing my family to Orlando Dec.15-22. At this late date, it's probably a longshot, but do you still have room on a cruise?
It would be 5 passengers: my wife and myself, 2 daughters (14 & 9), and my son (5).
Thanks, I'll keep my fingers crossed!:)

Does anyone know if on the Illuminations cruise you can see the globe?

Yes, you can see everything. You are a little further from the globe than if you stood in , say, Italy, but it is still perfectly visible.

Can I pay for a Wishes cruise with a credit card? We are sharing a Cruise, so each person will be paying individually. Can DF and I pay for our part upon arrival with a credit card??
UrsulasShadow
12-30-2007, 01:41 PM
My guess is that it should be put on one card. The card used to hold the reservation does NOT have to be the one used to pay for it, though. You should maybe designate one person to pay on the card, and arrange for the others to pay that person cash. Don't forget to figure in the tip!

Hiya, anybody have 4 extra spaces for Feb 11-14 for a Wishes or Illuminations cruise??:goodvibes
Nevermind..just called and got thru and booked Illuminations on Breathless for the 12th. I called to tell me mom (there will be me and DH, mom and step dad) and she thinks it's crazy since it's an hour and nothing but water and coke. I am unsure, but I have awhile before I need to cancel. It's $297 after tax!!!!!!!

Yes, all IllumiNations Cruises (Pontoon or Breathless) are $275 per boat plus Tax. Pontoon hold a maximum 10 guests, Breathless maximum 7 guests.

I just wanted to celebrate that today was exactly my 90 day marker. I slept in 30 minutes past 7:30 (missed the alarm ) and I was so worried I would miss it. I called and they had a boat for 10 left. I was so excited. This is our big thank you for my dad paying for all 10 of us to go to Disneyworld.

Forgive me if these questions have already been asked but I have 2...
1. I am a few weeks away from being able to book but I had called Disney a month or so back and asked how many people could fit on a boat. They said there were boats that could hold 12 if some were children, does anyone know if this is true? I am trying to book for 12 people including 3 kids.
2. Also is the procedure for payment still that they take CC info over the phone but do not charge until that day?
Thanks in advance!

No, when you call WDW-PLAY they will tell you the maximum is 10ppl (including all adults and children regardless of age or size). Book you boat for 10. At the marina the driver can make the ultimate decision if more than 10 can safely board the boat. The important issue is safety! Every guest must be able to be properly seated, nobody sitting on laps, nobody sitting on floor. If it cannot be done safely, you will not be able to squeeze more than 10 on the boat.
2. Also is the procedure for payment still that they take CC info over the phone but do not charge until that day?
Yes, just like when you rent a car, you give the credit card as a holder, it is not charged until the night of the cruise. In fact, you must bring a credit card or room key to the marina, since it is at that point that the charges are accessed.

Just back from Illuminations cruise on Breathless and it was fantastic! This may have been mentioned somewhere before, but I didn't want to go through the 100 odd pages of this thread, the new Breathless boat holds 6 adults, not 7 like the old one. We were able to book for 7 since we had kids, but one adult was sick so we had no problem. (I don't know if they are allowing you to book 7 adults anymore.) The seating is as follows: back seat: 2 kids or 2 really small adults or an adult and kid max. Middle seat: 3 adults. Front seat: 1 adult. It was definitely one of our favorite Disney experiences ever!

We're considering a cruise on May 28, 29 or 30, 2008. There are 6 of us (4 adults, 2y/o, 5y/o). We thought we might reserve the smallest boat and have room to stretch, but if anyone wants to split a bigger boat, let us know. This is an anniversary and birthday gift for the kids and my grandparents, so if anyone is also celebrating, we could plan decorations or something. Thanks!

I assume your talking about a Wishes Cruise? Because there are no "smaller" boats at IllumiNations, all 5 pontoons are 25 footers.

We don't really have a preference on which show we see. If we did it ourselves, we'd go for the smallest boat possible (which, yes, is for Wishes), but if someone wanted to share, we could go either way.
Of course, we'd have no problem on the pontoon, either!! Haha!! We have one at our lake house that sometimes two drift around in, and REALLY stretch out. Great place to take a little nap! Haha!!

It has been almost one year since we experienced a wonderful night on our boat cruise followed by the spectacular Illuminations show. Our family has been captivated by the joy and wonder of Walt Disney World since our first 2 day visit in 2003. The boat cruise solidified our decision to make a WDW trip a family tradition.
BTW- I called in February last year and was still able to secure a boat for 5 in late March. I did it early in the day but was well past the 90 day mark. Never give up!

Hello everyone! :wave2: I haven't read through this entire thread, so I know this has probably been asked before. My family and I are going in Dec. and we've been thinking of booking the Illuminations cruise. It sounds Fantastic! It is still 90 days out to book right? Also, do they provide snacks or drinks, or can we bring some? Thank you so much for your help. :flower3:

>I haven't read through this entire thread, so I know this has probably been asked before.
That's OK, every now and then we need to recap and update the info.
>My family and I are going in Dec. and we've been thinking of booking the Illuminations cruise. It sounds Fantastic!
December is a wonderful time of year to visit Walt Disney World. All the parks and resorts are decorated, many additional things are added, like story-tellers, and IllumiNations has a special Holiday Tag added (about 6 additional minutes of "Peace on Earth").
>It is still 90 days out to book right?
Yes, but remember the lines open at 7am Eastern Time and by 5 minutes after all of the available boats (5 pontoons and Breathless II) are usually booked.
>Also, do they provide snacks or drinks, or can we bring some?
Currently, all boats have Snacks (Smart Popcorn, Potato Chips (Plain and BBQ), Doretos, and pretzels) and a cooler of Water, Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite.
Can you bring some? By the letter of the law, No. But, as long as you don't get carried away (rolling a Keg to the boat), you could purchase some minor items at the Gift Shops and bring them along. The drivers will usually allow this. Be aware, if you were to bring, like a couple dessert snacks, advise the driver before you depart from Bayside Marina, so if you require some additional napkins, or plates and forks, they will make sure the boat has sufficient items. Also, be aware, Breathless II cannot have any additional foods. The seating on the speedboat is not conducive to plates or any foods aside the snacks provided.
Final note about food, you can call Private Dining at The Yacht Club and order just about anything for the Pontoon Boats. Cheese & Crackers, Dip & Chips, Salsa, Sandwiches, Cakes, Hot Wings, even Pizza. This is handled between you and Private Dining, and again I suggest you advise your driver upon arrival at Bayside Marina that an arrangement was made. Don't assume that the Marina knows about this ahead of time, don't wait until your boarding the boat to ask "Where's my Chocolate Covered Strawberries?"
Good Luck securing the cruise! And most importantly, have a great time at Walt Disney World.

IF you have a cruise booked, no you do not have to have entry into EPCOT in order to do the cruise. In November 2007, prior to the cruise, my family and I spent the day in the Magic Kingdom and the other family joining us spent the day at Disney Studios and neither of us had Park Hopper tickets. Enjoy the cruise!

- Sorry, didn't want to read thousands of posts to find out if someone had already posted their experience... Thanks!

We just returned and did an Illuminations Cruise. And how wonderful for us that I met someone here on the dis who wanted to join us and it was great to meet a new friend!!!
Anyway, in answer to your question, I think it would depend on the small child. The boat left the Yacht Club marina and we travelled towards Hollywood Studios while our captain pointed out things we might not have noticed and gave us some history of that area. It was very quiet. We were 6 adults on the boat and it was just quiet and relaxing. After doing that, we headed towards Epcot and parked under the bridge. By then, the people on the bridge above had probably been standing awhile waiting for the fireworks and we could hear them talking (most of them were saying how did those lucky people get in those boats :rotfl: ). The boats are in place for probably 5 minutes. We just sat and chatted. Then the fireworks start and it seems as if you are right there. After all of the times I've seen Illuminations, and have had some great viewing spots, this was amazing.
The pontoon boats hold 10 people. Six can sit in front of the captain. Since there was only 6 of us, we all sat out front (I had planned it that way--I didn't want a full boat). However, there is bench seating behind where the captain stands for another 4 people. I would think that a small child would be okay as there is a bit of wiggle room either in the front or back areas. The experience prior to the fireworks (taking the ride plus getting into the parking spot) didn't seem long at all.
I can't say enough how wonderful I thought this experience was. It was not only worth the money, it was also worth getting out of bed at 3:30 in order to call in at 4:00 am to get one of these boats.

Any chance they would let a party of 12 on the boat? We have 6 adults and 6 kids (all under 9 years old). And if only 10 can go it's not going to happen :(
Thanks!

Nope.. max 10. It has to do with seats AND life jackets.

Thanks for the quick answer. That's what I was afraid of. All the info I could find on the Disney site said 10 max as well.
We need to get the first post in this thread changed so it says 10 max :thumbsup2

I am looking for someone to share a fishing excursion. The date would be Feb 27, 28 OR 29th. I will pay for the reservation up front and the sharing party would pay their portion to us the day of the trip.
If you are interested pm me, please. We have room for an additional 3 people. For 2 it would be $125, for 3 people $150. The total cost is $250, so that is how it could be broken down. :) Children are certainly welcome. :)
Please PM me if interested. :)

Hi all. I'll be arriving at WDW on Oct. 12 and leaving the 19 and would like to join an illumination cruise on the 13, 14, 15, 16, or 17. Anyone planning to go then and have room for one more? I guess it's too early to book.

Is anyone considering an Illuminations cruise then, but needs more people to join in/save money? We'd be happy with any of those evenings (except for 9.6) and would be happy to pay our part.
Its just the two of us, DH and I. If anyone is considering those dates and would have extra room (once reservations are available) PM or email me.
thanks!

Good afternoon,
I don't post much here (but read various threads daily) and have had very good luck with this process. (third time lookng for additional guests)
I have a WISHES cruise booked for Monday evening May 5th. Currently I have 7 in my party with room for a party/family of 3 (the boat holds 10). Please feel free to PM me if you're interested in joining us and sharing the coast. FYI - my party consists of myself, my wife and our 7 year old son, friends of ours and their two children ages 7 and 4.
The boat leaves from the Poly pier and the show is "scheduled" to begin at 9pm that evening (subject to change of course)
Not to get ahead of ourselves here but what normally works is a meeting at O'Hana (the bar of course :goodvibes ) for introductions and such and off we go.....

I have a Tuesday April 22, 2008 Wishes cruise that I would like to share. I have room for six more. There will be two children ages 4 and 2 on the pontoon, so children are certainly welcome.

Yes, you can book two boats to carry up to 20 guests (10 per boat).
The boats will depart together at Bayside Marina, and meet back up where they park to watch the IllumiNations fireworks. They will parks side-by-side.

I was told by a captain of one of these cruises that his boat has often sat idle because someone cancelled. You can snag a cancellation. I know, because I was lucky enough to get a cancelled cruise only 6 weeks before our trip last year.
If you want to try to find a cruise to share, or if you have a reservation for a cruise already and are willing to share with others please post to the appropriate Illuminations Cruise Central. Here are links to the current posts:

How many people will the allow on the boat for the Illuminations Cruise? I read on the disboards that "Each pontoon boat will accommodate up to 10 adults or 12 passengers if some of them are children". We have 11 in our party - 9 adults and 2 children. When I called Disney the CM I spoke with said 10 people max.

Hi all
I have just phoned and reserved a boat for Illuminations at Epcot for Mothers Day, 11th May and thought I would share how it went for me.
I started calling 407-939-7529 just before 7am est. I got a recorded message saying the office was closed and kept trying. As soon as I got the recordiing saying "Thank You for calling WDW Recreation" I hit #1 - which is the option for boat rental.
I was immediately on with an operator and I asked if I could book the 8pm Speciality cruise for my date. She then asked me whether I wanted it for Illuminations or Wishes. Once I had made my choice she asked how many people where in my party and how old any kids where. The whole process only took a couple of minutes. The operator gave me my booking reference number, timings and instructions to call back 14 days before the cruise to make sure these timings are the same.
She told me the total cost - $275+tax and took a credit card number but did say that this wouldn't be charged until the day providing we cancel within 24 hours if necessary. Drinks and snacks are included.
I hope this info helps as I have been reading many requests for the OP info to be updated.
~Good luck to anyone wanting to book - I personally cannot wait~

Does anyone know what type of Desserts you can order for the boats? I called the Yacht Club Private Dining and they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about. At first, she thought I was talking about the Disney Cruise Line! :lmao:
I'm interested in hopefully reserving 2 boats for my vow renewal in July, but I would like to get some catering from the Yacht Club. Not a cake, but some other desserts, cookies, brownies etc. Has anyone done this? Is there a menu somewhere online to look at? Thanks for the help!

Hello Everyone,
We will be going to DW in May, I would like to get some ideas of what they would feel is the better cruise (view of fireworks, fun, price etc.) of the Illuminations Cruise. There will be 6 of us 4 adults, a 10 year old and a 3 year old. We have never done this before and I am trying to put something together as a surprise. I thank everyone in advance for your time.

Hi,
You might want to call and check whether your Wishes celebration cruise comes with audio (some of the boats don't). I have a wishes cruise booked May 22nd with Audio. It's not a celebration cruise but it costs $275 ($292 with tax) before tip. I remember we booked a celebration wishes cruise last Sept and the cost was $300.
Have a wonderful time!

Thank you - we will!
I should have said that the total cost of the cruise is $300 but we are kicking in the $25.00 for the decorations Celebrations cost, so we would be splitting the cost of $275.00 with other interested guests. The boat will have the piped in Wishes audio.
Hope your cruise on the 22nd is wonderful as well!

My mom and I will be at WDW the first week of May. We are on the DxDDP. I have an Illuminations Cruise booked and I was wondering what peoples experiences were with ordering food from Yacht Club room service. I was hoping I could order dessert and coffe for us while we are on the boat. Does any one know if this counts for credits? If I order just 2 desserts and coffes, is that 4 credits? Any other suggestions?? I was thinking about just going to Boardwalk Bakery but we can't bring our own food on. Help!!!

I can't believe I actually got three offers to share illuminations cruises today in July so, if I get lucky enough to get a boat, it looks like we're going to be able to make this thing happen. But I'm still curious about a couple of things and hoping someone could clarify.
1) There's a post a few above mine that says the cruise costs $275. I've heard $250 for the Pontoon boat and $275 for the upgraded boat (forget the name) which seats seven. Have the prices on the Pontoon really gone up to $275?
2) When you make your reservation do you have to pay upfront or do you only have to hold the reservation with a credit card with a standard 4 (or so) day cancelation window?
3) What exactly do you ask for? I thought I read somewhere that you should ask for the 8 p.m. specialty cruise and add that you're hoping to see Illuminations. Is that right?
Thanks for your help!

I recently called and booked a Wishes cruise for DH birthday. I have the smaller boat that seats 8, and doesn't have the music (the one with the music is called "Premium" I think, and seats 10 and it wasn't available)
I was quoted $239 and some change, and added the celebration package to it bringing my total to $266. I believe the larger boat is more $
I provided my credit card # as a guarantee and was told that we have until 24 hours prior to cancel with no penalty. Beyond that we will be charged the full price
I just told them what cruise I wanted, and they looked up the time, and gave me all the info.

1. IllumiNations on has one size pontoon, the 24 foot long pontoon. Wishes has two sizes. The IllumiNations Pontoon is $275 plus tax, for sure. It seats 10 guests (including children/infants) plus the driver.
2. They take a credit card to hold the cruise and if you don't show up, or cancel 24-hours in advance that credit card will be charged. But, when you arrive at Bayside Marina, you must pay for the cruise, you can use the same credit card, you can use your WDW room key, you can use a different credit card, or you can use cash or Disney Dollars. The cashier at Bayside Marina will not have your initial credit card information, you must be prepared to pay for the cruise.

I have 2 cruises next month.
The first is Illuminations (pontoon takes 10) - the price is $275 ($292 with tax). That doesn't include tip. It was the same price last September. Illuminations cruises don't need audio because you're practically part of the show.
The second is the Wishes cruise. Again we're on a pontoon taking 10. The price is $275 WITH audio ($292 with tax). However, there are pontoons for Wishes that don't have audio - those may cost $250. That may be where the confusion is. I definitely would want to hear the music.
Unless you specify "with Audio" you may end up in a pontoon without sound. That's what happened to us this year. Luckily I realized it and was able to change it before hanging up. So if a CM quotes $250, you'll know what that means.
Enjoy your cruise :boat:

I've booked a wishes cruise leave at 9pm on Tuesday 4/15 from the Wilderness Lodge dock.
I am looking for another DIS family to come along and share the fun and cost. We have room for up to 6 more people - we prefere another family with smaller kids (ours are 21mo and 5). The boat is the deluxe one with Wishes Audio as well as beverages and some light snacks. I will need to know by Sunday 4/13 at the latest if you are interested.
Thanks

I understand that it's expected to tip the captain of your boat, but what is the norm for tipping? And does it make a difference if you split the cruise with another family? Do you split the standard tip as well? Assuming I'm able to book a cruise, I just wanna do the right thing here by my captain.

I tipped $30 or $35 back in the day when it was a little cheaper. I asked the same question then and I don't think I ever got a real definitive answer.
They may offer to take you for a extra spin after illuminations. We went back up to HS (I don't think that is standard). So if it's a nice night and you get some extra time in, you request anything special and they accommodate you well, or they do an extra nice job with the kids, etc., you can tip accordingly.
I appreciated that our captain didn't seem to expect a tip. And as I recall, there was a big football game he was missing.

I took a WISHES cruise last year and it was great. I would love to take it again this year. There are 4 of us Me, Dd (17), Dd's Bff (17), Ds (4). If anyone has the boat that seats 10 that would be great. We were in the boat that sits eight last year and would like to have the music this time.

Yes, you do not need Park Passes. You board the boat at Bayside Marina and never leave the boat. Good luck,

Today was the 90 day mark for to book for our upcoming trip and when I spoke to the CM at 7:01 a.m. he said there were no boats left!!! :scared1:
I mentioned how surprised I was that ALL of the pontoon boats AND the Breathless could've been booked within a one minute time frame. He then started clicking on his keyboard and said, "Ummm, oh wait, I think I found you a boat." Coincidence or someone who clued into what I was trying to reserve? Regardless, I'm sure glad I didn't take his initial "no boats left" for an answer and hung up the phone!!!

I have found mixed information around allowable guests. I have read online that it can take up to 12 guests with 10 of them being adults. But then I have read (and the reservation line said) 10 - only 10 - regardless. We are a party of 11 - 6 adults, 5 children ranging in age from 10 to 4. Is this going to be a show stopper?

If you don't have any luck, I suggest you phone the marina while you're there - or better yet, go down to the Yacht Club marina at 8pm and wait around a bit. Often what happens is that someone cancels a cruise (you can do that up to 24 hours beforehand) and then it's too late to re-book for the next day. And then sometimes people end up not showing up for cruises. I had about 4 people not show up last yr for the Illuminations cruise and 5 didn't show up for the wishes cruise.
So I definitely wouldn't give up hope. It might not be such a long shot as you think. And if you show up on the 15th I'll say hi since I have a cruise that night (unfortunately it's already full with DISers).
anyway, good luck :)

Darn it's tough getting one of these boats. My wife called this morning to try to reserve a boat for July 25th, got through to someone less than a minute after 7, and "no boats." We're gonna try again for a boat for the 28th this Tuesday, so perhaps we'll have better luck when we roll the dice a second time. But somehow I suspect we'll wind up calling intermittently from here until then hoping for a cancellation!

I'm not sure if this is the best place for this question, but since it's about the illuminations cruise, I figured this wasn't completely off base for this thread.
I know that you can order a dinner from one of the restaurants at the Yacht and Beach Club for the boat, but can you just order a bottle of wine for the trip? We were planning on eating dinner before the cruise, but it would be really nice to have a glass of wine with the fireworks!
Anyone know?

I know, I know........
Yes, you can call Private Dining at the Yacht Club and request a bottle of wine, champagne, some beer.... just about anything on the Private Dining Menu. As far as a full dinner, I would NOT suggest this, it is not easy to dine with plated food on the pontoon boats, because they only have a small table. Finger foods, pizza, cheese & crackers, fruit platter, work the best.
And remember, NO food is recommended for Breathless II

Thanks for the reply and that sounds like good news. And I'd had the same thought about having a full dinner on a boat. I wonder how many people actually order a full dinner?

Hello all,
Since I see the same questions pop up over and over, here are some answers:
1 - The prices for Illuminations Cruises are $275 plus tax ( total of $292.88). If you do the Celebration Upgrade, add on $25. That includes balloons, and appropriate banner ( birthday, anniversary, congratulations). That price is the same for all cruises at Illuminations. The cruise includes Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, and Bottled Water. it also includes Lays chips, BBQ Chips, pretzels, Doritos, and Cheetos. Sometimes one or the other variety is not in the mix.
2 - Wishes Cruises have two levels. The Basic 21' pontoon is $225 plus tax ( total of $239.66). This boat seats 8 guests, plus driver, and does not have on-board audio. The Premium 25' pontoon is $275 plus tax (total of $292.88). It seats 10 guests, plus driver. This boat includes on-board audio. Depending on wind conditions and proximity to other boats, being on a basic boat does not mean that you will not hear the Wishes ( or whatever show is being run that evening) soundtrack, but don't depend on it. The same $25 celebration upgrade price applies to these cruises. The passenger limits are strictly adhered to. It does not matter how many are children, infants, or adults, the limit is the limit.
3 - Illuminations cruises are pretty much the same time year round, with the exception of the day after Thanksgiving until the day before NYE, when Illuminations is at 9:30pm. The rest of the year it is at 9:00pm, with check-in between 8:00 and 8:15pm.
4 - Wishes cruises vary depending on the fireworks, with fireworks being anywhere from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. No matter what the person on the phone tells you for the time of the pickup and fireworks on the date of your cruise, ALWAYS call the specific marina the day of or before your cruise to doublecheck the correct times. Too often reservationists have provided inaccurate times to guests for Wishes cruises, causing guests to show up early or late for their cruise. Don't call the front desk, call the actual resort marina where you will be departing from. The correct cruise time is 1 hour prior to the fireworks time. This month alone, there are 9:00pm, 10:00pm, and 9:45pm fireworks times, so make sure to verify.
5 - Additional food and beverage can be ordered through private dining. The most common orders are wine, champagne, fruit and cheese plates, and chocolate covered strawberries. Full meals are not really appropriate due to the seating and small tables. Also, beer ordered through private dining can be exhorbitantly overpriced, as it is charged at the single bottle price no matter how many are ordered.
6 - The Wishes cruises usually include the Electric Water Pageant, but due to Wishes timing, some nights the EWP is not included. For example, if Wishes is at 8:00pm, since the EWP starts at 9:00pm every night, you will not see it as your cruise will be over by then.
7 - Illuminations is tougher to book as there are only six boats each night ( including the Breathless II ). Wishes is easier to book, as there is the potential for 6 premium boats ( 2 from the WL, 1 from the CT, 2 from the Poly, and 1 from the GF), and 15 basic boats each night, although it rarely reaches that number. Keep in mind that no matter where the boats originate from, they can pick up at any Magic Kingdom Resort, including the FW Campground. They cannot pickup or drop off at the Magic Kingdom or Ferry Boat docks.
Hope this is of some help,
Take care,
Bill

For those of you who have done the Illuminations Cruise before, a quick question: will the Marina split the price of the boat if you're sharing with another family so each family can pay for their own portion of the price with their own credit cards?

For those of you who have done the Illuminations Cruise before, a quick question: will the Marina split the price of the boat if you're sharing with another family so each family can pay for their own portion of the price with their own credit cards?
The cruise is secured with one credit card of the person renting the boat. It cannot be split between more than one card.
Usually (at least the 2 times I've shared cruises), the price is split PER PERSON. So if the renter has 5 people, and you do, then it's split even. Or if they have 3 and you have 5 and there's another party of 2.. then for a cruise total of $300 (the $275 for the cruise plus $25 tip ).. each person is $30. Your party of 5 would pay $150 cash to the renter.. the party of 2 $60. The renter would have contributed the last $90 for his family. But, the cost was already paid for by the renter with his/her credit card.
Of course the renter of the boat has the right to split anyway they want to. Some want to split it PER FAMILY. So if the renter has 8 people, and you are only 2, then you will still pay half of the cost. Keep that in mind when agreeing to rent. Know how the split is going to go.
It's a matter of trust for the renter. If people don't show up, he's stuck with the extra cost.

Thanks! A very helpful response. Could I bother you with another: how have you dealt with tipping your captain when you split a boat. Did each family tip on their own or is it a better idea to decide on a collective tip and have each family contribute a portion?

The tip was counted in as part of our price. In our case last year, it was the $275 cruise with $25 tip, so it was $37.50 per person (there were only 8 people). This was all given to the renter, and it was given to the captain by the renter. This was the same tip given at both our cruises. I didn't set the tip price, the renters did. I actually thought this to be low.. and the second cruise I did privately hand the captain $20. That Captain was great though... the other cruise's Captain, I'm not sure even deserved extra since he hardly spoke at all!
Remember, the renter sets all the rules of how everything is done/paid, so be sure to know everything upfront.

Hello again,
In response to the question about splitting the bill, it can be done and happens quite often. I've even seen it split three ways. It just involves the cashier putting the appropriate amount on each card. But keep in mind, whoever booked the cruise is the one who is responsible, so if you're counting on someone else and they are are a no-show, you're still charged the full amount.
Take care,
Bill

Shan,
What they do is they have an early presentation (I think it's around 7:30pm) and they have the Midnight (starts at 11:30pm) Presentation, which is hands down, the best fireworks Disney does.
BUT! Beware, the cruise cost for the midnight show is jacked up. Usually around $575.00 per boat and subject to change. They always change the price on NYE (Midnight only) and July 4th.

So, if I understand you correctly, there are two "sets" of cruises for New Years's Eve. One for regular illuminations and one for the "special" fireworks.
I think we would be interested in the early cruise due to young children (Don't think my three year old will make it to midnight!) Hopefully the price of the early cruise will be the "normal" price!
Thanks again! :)

1. Yes, but arrive about 20 minutes before your ADR, just to be sure your seated promptly. I always allow at least 2 hours for a casual dinner. Then, walk from Coral Reef to Bayside Marina, don't be tempted to take a Friendship Boat. As long as you check in at Bayside Marina by 8pm, your A-OK.
2. Keep looking. And, if you are so bold, if nothing pans out by 7/17, still walk over to Bayside Marina, talk to any of the Cruise Drivers (Blue Shirt) at the Marina and ask if there are any small groups. Don't be shy, it's Disney, you would be surprised to hear that some people who get the boats are not on the DisBoards and do not know of the common practice to share boats.
Good Luck.

How to get to Bayside Marina from Epcot. Exit thru the International Gateway (between UK and France). Walk with Crescent Lake on your left, past the Beach Club, past the Lighthouse, when you see the gazebo on the right, turn left and you will be facing the Bayside Marina Building. Look for parked boats in the water and the dock.
IllumiNations is ALWAYS at 9pm, except for between Thanksgiving and NYE when it is moved to 9:30pm. EMH does NOT affect IllumiNations.
Yes, if you want to exit back thru Epcot, you can ask your pontoon driver to drop you off at the Epcot Friendship Dock at the International Gateway Entrance. There is no need to go all the way back to Bayside marina after the cruise.
FYI, the pontoon boats will hold a total of 10ppl (adults including children and infants). There are Chips, pretzels, soda and water provided on the boat. Arrive at Bayside Marina by 8pm (8:30pm between Thanksgiving and NYE). Blankets are on the boat, if desired.
That should cover it.......................

Thanks for the info! I thinks we will try to do it!

Sorry if I am posting in the wrong place but I am looking for information on the Wishes cruises. I've tried to search with no luck. Is there a thread out there dedicated to the Wishes cruises?

I am not sure if there is a separate thread for the Wishes Cruise. But we just returned from WDW on Friday night, and did a Wishes Cruise during our stay. It was nice. We departed from the WL. I was only able to get the 8 seater pontoon that did not have the music.
I did add the Celebration package for my DH birthday. The boat had a cooler with water and sodas for us, as well as snacks including Doritos, Cheetos and potato chips.
We got a tour of the lake first including the hotels and a bit of history/info about each of them. Then we docked near the MK, and watched the fireworks. It was a bit windy so we were moving around alot. Our driver tried to stay close to one of the boats that had the music so we could hear it. It was a bit hard to hear anyway, and I wish I would have been able to get one with music, but it was not available when I booked. The view was good, and the fireworks were beautiful.
If there are any questions I can help with, feel free to post or PM me.

Good Luck.
I appreciate the response. I am going to try that during the whole week that we go if we decide to do it. We have just added two additional days to the trip so we may have the time but the funds may be allotted for other entertainment. Thanks though!

Hi all, I was supremely lucky and scored an Illuminations Cruise for Sunday 8/17. There are only 4 of us, so I'm looking for 6 folks to share with me. This is how I met one of my best friends ever, last time I booked a cruise! No pressure, though :rolleyes1
PM me or email abricker@alum.mit.edu

Ok I just booked the cruise and you DO NOT press #3 first, you press #1
and that's it...
This really should be updated
