i have heard that if you are traveling with children, you can call the airline ahead of time and let them know and they will have a kids meal ready for you. Has anyone else heard of this?

You can make these requests, but I would bring some acceptable snacks in case the airlines fail to honor your request. They have no trouble losing bags so they sure can lose a meal request. Remember they are dealing with millions of people.

You can request many types of special meals on flights, including vegetarian. The meals will usually be on the plane. These meals also tend to be served first, from what I have seen. The flight attendants will distribute them before they roll the carts out with the regular meals. Make the request when you buy your tickets and confirm it when you check in for your flight. But again, to be on the safe side, bring some snacks...:) Have a great flight...:)

depending on the city and whether or not the catering comes from that sight its best to reconfirm the special meal 24 hrs in advance.

Sure wish I knew this before! Just got back from California this morning, and the kids were none too happy with their meals. Neither was I, but I'll eat anything when I'm starving!
