Hi Vic,
We were due to be there 4th July this year, although we've now changed our plans and won't arrive until the 5th. However, I did seek some advice here and Peebee replied to say they'd been at MGM one year - there were 3 showings of Fantasmic and one of Sorcery in the Sky which is only shown on special occasions, so I think that's probably where we'd have chosen to spend it.
The Quality Inn Plaza is right across the street from Pointe Orlando. Several shops there have closed, but I haven't heard anything about FAO Schwartz closing - it would be a real shame if that's true. SimonV would know - I suggest you send him a PM.
We were in Orlando for the 4th July celebrations a few years ago and had a fantastic evening at Universal's City Walk.
The firework display over US + IOA was totally amazing - the best I have ever seen !!!!
They had live bands playing on a floating pontoon out on the lake and the whole place was buzzing with a great party atmosphere.

Yep Fao Scwartz was closing. We were there at christmas and it was a mess. All that was onsale was tat. New York one is also closed. However what was left was very cheap. I bought a furry lobster (don't ask) for $4 reduced from $40.
However.......I have read somewhere that another company was going to buy the name and open up the stores so hopefully that is what will happen.
