Finally got some rose pictures uploaded to share. Still don't have any of the front porch or the walkway, but at least here are the roses. :) We got all of these from the Antique Rose Emporium in Brenham, TX so they're using their names. :)

(None of these look this good any more. Heavy rains that came through this weekend knocked most of the petals off most of the flowers :( )

Here's the overview of our back yard, where the last 3 roses were planted. The first is the one I planted in a container on the back porch, but isn't in this picture. These are the trellises I keep debating trying to spruce up.

First, the Valentine rose, which is nearly thornless and one of those where all the flowers are clustered on the ends of the stalks/canes.

Next is what they call a "found" rose, meaning it was just found along the road somewhere living and thriving with no extra care. :) It was later discovered (just a year or two ago I believe) that it was "Carefree Beauty", but it's still also known by its "found" name, Katy Road Pink. This is one my mom has been growing for years, and this thing produces the most roses I've ever seen and it never gives up. It may quit blooming for 3-4 weeks, but then it's back again. Even in Dec and Jan.

Then my new favorite, called Lafter. This has so many different colors I haven't been able to keep track. Sadly it's bloomed out for this round, but it's supposed to be a "repeat bloomer" so I'm hoping for some more flowers in a few weeks. This is one my mom hasn't seen before, and is wishing she'd gotten as well while we were up there. :D

And finally a strong bloomer of my mom's, and one of the two that promped DH to say "I want roses, why don't we have some roses, you should get roses". ;) The Dame De Coeur (I think I spelled that right), also known as the "black" rose I think because the older flowers turn a very dark dark red. This was the only one of our roses to withstand the rains of the weekend.

Beautiful! Roses are my favorite. I have one bloom almost ready to open and buds on a lot of my other roses. Of course, the one rose that is not doing well is my Disneyland rose! I'll take pictures when they bloom.

Rajah - Your roses are really very beautiful and thank you for sharing them with us.

Um... However, your fence intrigues me. Do you have it alternating - one panel, inside of fence; next panel, outside of fence. And on the inside of fence part, you know, the ones that show the support cross beams - why does the top cross beam look like it is a shelf? Inquiring minds, ya know....

(mary - crossing my fingers for your Disney rose to perk up and perform!)

Rajah, your pictures are great!! :) I love the colour of your Lafter rose! ::yes:: :)

You're having a better time with your roses, than I am! My one and only rose, a climber named Blaze, was deader than a doornail this spring. I was afraid she was a goner last fall, and this past Saturday we cut her down. :(

I seriously considered going back to plastic roses ;) , but we decided to give it one more try. We bought the newer "Improved Blaze", and we'll see how see does. The only problem is, if we move this year or early next, I won't really be able to see how well she grows. We're off to have a private viewing of another house today! :)

Here's old Blaze, in her glory days....may she rest in peace. ;) :)

You're exactly right. Apparently they've found that with the frequent tropical storms and occasional hurricane-strength winds we get down here, the alternating fence survives better and making the top beam be like a shelf instead of flat also provides better high-wind survival. That's how it came with the house, and is actually required in the deed restrictions.

It also makes it clearer who the fence "belongs" to. Every panel I think with the shelf facing away from us is our responsibility to repair. Every panel with it facing toward us is our neighbor's. I think. Or it's the other way around. ;)

Snowwark -- Blaze was beautiful!!

Wow Rajah and snowwark! The roses are fantastic!
Between the aphids and the blackspot, mine give me a major headache. I love them, but they are a pain.

Thanks for the explanation. Here in NY, whoever puts up the fence is responsible for the entire length. Sometimes neighbors may share the expense of fixing or replacing but usually not. Also, here, one is suppose to put the "good" side of the fence facing your neighbor (again, not always done).

So, if part of that policy is similar in your neck of the woods (putting the good side of a fence facing neighbor), then you would be responsible for the panels where you see the shelf. (I keep thinking you should put something on those shelves!).

At any rate, I think it would be wise to find out which panel which neighbor is responsible for BEFORE something happens to any of them! LOL

Snowwark - Blaze was indeed beautiful.

Love your roses! Beautiful! Thanks for posting keep em coming.

My Disneyland rose isn't doing well either:( I lost a few bushes this year. It was a hard winter.Fortunately most are coming back of my rose garden is coming back strong.

Kim, your Blaze was beautiful. The newer bushes really are new and improved. I planted a few of the "super hardy new and improved" dwarf shrub bushes last year for a spot that's very difficult to grow in. They are now taking over my patio and they aren't even budding yet.
