If you were in charge of getting rid of one attraction from each park, which would you choose? Here's my list:

MK - Astro Orbiters
AK - Tricerotop Spin
MGM - American Film Institute Showcase
Epcot - Circle of Life

MGM: The Great Movie Ride

The only one....

VAN

I don't know about getting rid of it but I was EXTREMELY disappointed with the Imagination "ride" at Epcot. With all the creative minds they have at Disney, you would think they could come up with something better than that. The original was WAY better.

It was the only ride with no wait last week.

I agree completely!

I also agree with Ali on the Circle of Life at Epcot.

But the Great Movie Ride! It's one of my favorites! :) (OK the gangster/cowboy thing in the middle is kind of dumb - but I really like the rest! ::yes:: )

I don't know if it's still at MGM, but in January my sister and I went to the Making of the Haunted Mansion "attraction". We kept waiting for it to start - turned out it was nothing more than having all of us "guests" stand around a large screen watching a 15 minute boring promo for the movie that I would have clicked right past at home on TV. Couldn't believe they had the nerve to call it an "attraction" just because they found a place to store some of the original movie sets at WDW MGM.

So: definitely the worst - The Making of the Haunted Mansion

I agree 100%

MK - Astro Orbiters

I can't think of any others

Although the astro orbiter does not interest me to get ON it, I think that it is beautiful to look at ! It fits in so well with Tomorrowland.

I would get rid of " Sounds Dangerous with Drew Carey"
at MGM, for sure !

I wouldn't get rid of it b/c of its nostalgia, but I could do without riding IASW. Those creepy animated kids freak me out!!

Now that AK has a "real" safari, the jungle cruise looks like a lot of prime real estate that could house several new rides. Or maybe they could redo it and make the critters more realistic. The dinosaurs at IOA Jurrassic park ride show that those bathing elephants could be much better than they are.

Thanks Hippychickali! I thought I was the only one who felt IASW was kind of strange. The link made me feel better!:p

I just realized that by agreeing with VAN about the Imagination ride and with Ali about the Circle of Life, I have chosen two in Epcot.

OK. Decisions, decisions. Boy. This is really tough. All right. Although the Imagination ride is not imaginative, the Circle of Life is downright propaganda, and boring to boot. I vote for it to go. :teeth:

The tomorrowland speedway - I have waited on long lines in the blazing sun for this attraction. Then, my son drives and continuously hits the track giving me a heart attack. It's a harrowing experience and lacks overall "Disney magic" for me.

MK--Astro Obiter

MGM---Backlot

Epcot--Body Wars (too jerky)

AK--Hmmm...that is tough, probably tricerotops spin

I definitely agree with Sounds Dangerously and the Making of Haunted Mansion at MGM.

Also, I really disliked The Timekeeper at the Magic Kingdom....take it away, or at least add seats.

MK -- Aladdin
MGM -- Sounds Dangerous (bring back the Monster Sound Show!)
Epcot -- hmmmmm, nothing....
AK -- Triceratop Spin

Jungle Cruise??? Blasphemy!!! Update, yes. Eliminate, no way. That truly is a classic. I do agree that it could be much better and I don't think you'd have to invest $100 Million to do it.

Astro Orbiter. This is one of the few Tomorrowland attractions that actually fit the theme. Plus, what would you replace it with. It's not a lot of space at its base.

Here's my list:

MK: Indy Speedway. I know, it's a classic too. But it is far from unique. That really is prime real estate, and a lot of it. You could replace it with a new Tomorrowland attraction on one half and a new Fantasyland or Toontown attraction on the other.

Epcot: This was a toughie for me. I want to say Body Wars only because the whole pavilion feels dated and it is open seasonally anyway.

MGM: This is easy. The Magic of Disney Animation. The park already has one graveyard, it's in the Backlot tour. If you are going to fire all of the animators, just close the attraction. You don't need to go out of your way to convince me that this is not "really" a working studio.

AK: Dino-rama. Don't get me started.

monarchsfan16
04-13-2004, 02:46 PM
MK: Swiss Family Treehouse. No I've never read the book, so yes I did miss the point, but it's a waste of time. It's barely even an attraction, really.
Epcot: El Rio Del Tiempo in Mexico. The dolls in that are worse than the ones in IASW, and everything is so old.
Haven't been on enough stuff in MGM and AK to have found anything I didn't like there.

My vote goes to Sounds Dangerous in MGM - our least favorite attraction ever. :(

Although there are some rides (like Small World) that I choose not to go on, I can't imagine removing any of these classic rides. Everyone seems to have a different opinion on what they love/hate. :)

What does everyone hate about Astro Orbiter? I'm not sure I've even been on it. :)

I like this thread. Very interesting. I assume it was only temporary, so I wont pick that horrible "making of the haunted mansion" deal. Maybe it was just us, but we had no clue what was inside. But we stood in line for a good 20 minutes in anticipation because we love haunted mansion and when we realized that it was just a quick "making of" show, we were very much let down.
I agree with the poster that said you have to keep Astro Orbiter. I dont like to ride it myself (very small turning radius and much faster than it appears from below, not good when you just ate!). It just fits in perfectly with the scenery and looks beautiful at night.
I could do without Its a small world in Magic Kingdom. The Living Seas in epcot is just too plain for my tastes. Not enough variety of marine life for me. Its just very bland.
My final pick is the dinosaur ride in Animal Kingdom. Why not just save the space and have someone blast some speakers right in your ears while shaking you around in total darkness. I was very dissappointed in that when I first went on it.

MK- Speedway (keep AstroOrbiter!)
AK- Bird show (Keep Triceratops spin, my son loves it)
Epcot- Any of the rides in world showcase, they are more ads than rides. And Bodywars, there are better themed simulators.
MGM- My favorite attraction was the working animation studio. Now it is like looking at a picture of the girlfriend that cheated on you.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the HALL OF PRESIDENTS!!! Could anything GET any more boring? Its a running family joke... I always tell my mom I'd rather gnaw off my right arm then sit through it again.

Its a Small World is torture as well, but a classic that everyone must endure upon their first WDW visit =)

Great Movie Ride is yucky too... I always skip it now. I was hoping the recent renovations would work miracles on it, but it was minor upgrades...

AK... I only did 1/2 there and puked the entire time so I am not sure. The few things I did there were fine =)

Oh, my gosh! I can't believe 3 people have voted to get rid of Triceratop Spin. It's such a great, cheesy ride. I love it and I'm 51-helps get me in touch with my "inner child". I vote for:
MK-Tomorrowland Speedway; Epcot-El Rio Del Tiempo, I went there hoping to learn a little about Mexican culture before we moved to the border, boy was I disappointed! MGM-Sounds Dangerous, AK-I love this park and have a hard time imagining it without something that's there.

MGM - Sounds Dangerous with Drew Carey
Epcot Universe of Energy
AK - Pocahantas

MK- Definately the Hall of Presidents :faint: i could also do without the enchanted tiki room

Epcot- Body wars :headache:

MGM - I wish they would replace Indiana Jones, I do like it i've just seen it sooo many times im ready for a change (by the way I LOVE the Great Movie Ride!!!)

I would not get rid of Swiss Family Tree house... even though it is probably not very popular you would notice it missing.

My vote would have gone to Alien Encounter (this never did anything for me) but that is already gone.

For those that voted for Astro Orbiters... There would be nothing to replace this since it is built on top of the TTA station.

Here is my list...

MK: Speedway - I had to wait in that awful line 2 1/2 times (DS had to go to the bathroom) on our last visit and do not relish that experience again.

Epcot: El Rio de Tiempo (as a side note I would also vote to shorten the Energy movie.

MGM: Sounds Dangerous.

AK: no opinion

I have seen the Bears in California and the ones they have in WDW and the ones in WDW are ten times better. We like the bears at Christmas when they have everything decorated it feels like being in the country. My sister likes IASW and we go through the ride about four or five times every year. We also like Time Keeper it is really fun. If you have been in the Canada exhibit you will see the same setup. It is a 360 degree movie. If they had seats you couldn't get the effects as you would while standing. It would be like sitting in the shriek ride in a non-moving seat.

MK: I would try and get another level like at Disneyland Calif for POC. Duplicate SM like disneyland when you have experienced SM in Disneyland you won't go back to WDW.
I love Buzz Lightyear But! they should do something about the triggers on the guns and the uncontrollability of the cars thernselves. I would like to see them do something with the lagoon. There should be something besides wasted space.

Epcot: I would go back to the origional imagination with the dream keeper and figment. I also would get rid of both the Mexico and the Norway rides. The Mexico ride is boring and the Norway ride in Lame. I would think they should come up with something better . I did like the boat in front of the papvillion of Norway.

AK: I would replace Dinasour aka Countdown to Extinction with the Indy ride at Disneyland. This ride is 100 times better and as some one said earlier it won't blow your ears out. I would also get rid of Conservation Station. Boring Boring Boring Boring.

Studios aka MGM : I would do something with the movie ride. The last time I went throught it the ride was not synced and the alien come out at the wrong time. I think a little revamping is in order But! don't change the yellow brick road. I would like to see them blow the bank again. Didn't they do something with a western bank robber instead of a gangster??

MGM- Nothing... I enjoyed everything I saw at MGM
AK- Pocahontas show

How can you say that Astro Orbiters is the only thing that fits the theme of Tomorrowland? I think most of the rides in Tomorrowland fit the retro-future theme. TTA, Space Mountain, Timekeeper, etc.

MK - Definitely the Speedway; nothing special to it, and it's something that can be found at many amusment parks, so it doesn't add to that Disney magic

MK - Swiss Family treehouse; during our first visit last week, my 6 yr. old and I started to go up it, and she changed her mind because she said it "didn't look too exciting"

I would hate to see the rides that add to the Disney magic go, such as IASW and Astro Orbiter (it's such a symbol for Tomorrowland when you are in other areas of the park and can see it).

What SM are you referring to? (space mountain or splash mountain?) or neither mountain.... lol??

Okie doke, here's what I Think!
MK~ Indy Speedway. I'm in Indy, and hear way to much about the races and such. What does it have to do with Tomorrowland?? I enjoyed this time on my trip just cause I haven't been on it for 10 yrs.

Epcot~ Oh gosh. lol. El Rio Del Tempo or whatever it is in Mexico... ugh, BORING!. It just made me hungry from smellin the restaunt. It was a time-waster for us... waiting for Illuminations.

Epcot - Body Wars makes me ill all day!

MGM - Sounds Dangerous- CM was so bored that she was falling asleep!

I think alot of the attractions that people are mentioning such as the speedway, etc. could use a good upgrading as opposed to just getting rid of them completely. maybe I wouldnt despise Its a small world if they would just upgrade it somewhat. Those dolls are just beat down and old at this point. Its like one of those carnival games where you have to throw the baseball to try to knock down the furry dolls. Thats the urge I get when im on its a Small World.
A few people mentioned hall of presidents. Maybe its just me, but I swear the show used to be longer several years back and more interesting. Again, maybe some type of upgrading of the act would work as opposed to losing it alltogether.
I just hope that Disney keeps the classics around for the years to come and doesnt feel pressured into dumbing down some of the attractions to suit the people that need constant motion and excitement to enjoy a ride. I think a good mix of the different types of fast paced rides and the slower classics is great.

MK - I don't see as much "dead wood" in MK as in the other parks, except the lagoon from 20K Leagues. If I had to pick something I would pick something from ToonTown Fair, maybe "Donald's Boat" which has never been spraying water any time we've been there.

Epcot - I find Spaceship Earth completely boring and can't believe nobody else mentioned it. However, I gotta agree that Circle of Life is propaganda and I won't go on it again if I can help it.

MGM - The animation tour. It's just too depressing now with all the animators gone.

AK - Pocahontas, another half hour of propaganda, but my kids liked it.

Its been 10 years since I been to Disney but the one thing I do remember is thinking how boring Jungle Cruise was and seemed so lame and that was the first and only time I been there so I can imagine its still boring and lame.

You're kidding, right? I don't want them to remove the geoshpere, just the incredibly dull, sleep-inducing ride inside, where you're treated to the sound of the mechanics of the ride (gotta be one of the loudest in the parks) and the oh-so-serious narration of some very enlightened soul. Well anyway, I can take it or leave it, the nice thing about it is that it consumes a large number of people entering the park in the morning, people I don't have to compete with for the good rides.

Dump that Tomorrowland Speedway. Once you have actually gone on real go-carts (such as in Wisc. Dells) those things are as exciting as watching paint dry.

MGM - That backlot tour could do with a little rehab. And I would rather ride an Indy Jones ride than watch the show but it's ok.

AK - Until they can air condition the entire park I probably won't go back. It's the HOTTEST park to be in during the summer and I get too sick there.

Here are my votes, not at all easy...but here goes.

MK-The Tiki Room-even under new mgmt. I can't get that darn song out of my head for weeks!
EPCOT-Body Wars-been on it twice, been sick twice!
MGM-Love ya Drew, but Sounds Dangerous needs a change.
AK-I think I would CHANGE Dinosaur, maybe not get rid of it totally, but change it up a bit so that it's not so jerky.

Twende
04-18-2004, 10:10 AM
I really enjoy the jerking feeling of Dinosaur! It makes you hold on and fits with the theme of the ride!

I, too would hate to see Spaceship earth go away. It is a nice break form all the hectic stuff and something that our elders really enjoy!

When we were at MGM in march the back lot tour was closed so perhaps it is getting a re-do as we speak!

DisKim, I know exactly what you are saying about the Tomorrowland Speedway! I think you have to personally experience that ride with a driver of a certain very young age, like the kind that can not reach the gas pedal! My young one bounced off the rails the entire way and I laughed until I was literally crying! Even the attendants on the track were cracking up at his driving! As a adult I would never bother to ride it alone but the little kids just love the chance to drive a Disney race car!

I think the Jungle Cruise really needs to be re-done with more modern computer operated animals! They just look too fake today and we know they can make them look and act very real but it comes down to the cost of modernizing it!

I agree with rwodonnell about the loss of the animators! It is very difficult to look throught the windows at the empty desks! It is like visiting a graveyard! So very SAD!

I will start a rebellion if anyone messes with the TikiBirds! It is bad enough that they changed it but you shall not remover it! LOL!

As for airconditioning AK! Let me know when that happens! Not a bad idea but just not possible! LOL

Dinosaur may be jerky but I screamed my head off. It's an effective ride.

I'm all for the elimination of the Tomorrowland Speedway. I know it's popular judging by the huge lines, but it is one of the uglier attractions.

I'm all for revamping Spaceship Earth, as long as they don't get rid if it. It could use an update, though.

Animal Kingdom is too new of a park to be getting rid of out-of-date attractions. Rather, they need to add new ones.

MGM's backlot tour could also go...or at least be revamped. But I would vote for just putting in a new attraction.

sarahj
04-18-2004, 11:45 AM
Even though I put my two cents in earlier in this thread, I agree that everyone has different favorites. Wouldn't it be horrible if we all liked the same things. The lines would be unbearable! I do agree though that some things need to be updated. Indiana Jones is my first choice. My DH always wants to go see it, but I could almost recite the whole thing word for word!!!! Just once I'd like to see something different. But Disney is still my favorite place to go. This is truly amazing. If you all had your way, my 6-yo would never want to go back. She loves Spaceship Earth (I think we rode it 3 or 4 times one evening), Snow White, Astro Orbiter and all of those other little circle rides.

To each his own, I guess.

Here are some things I would probably not miss:

AK: Pochahontas
MGM: Sounds Dangerous
MK: Can't think of one
Epcot: Circle of Life ( I really liked Food Rocks, Imagination and many of the other things people listed. I LOVE the song in the Canada film - okay, the movie is old, but if they ever update the movie, they should keep the song.)

I would hate it if they close CIRCLE OF LIFE one of the most nature-caring, instructional, sad and realistic attraction they offer at WDW. It is important that kids learn about recycling and how they can improve nature.:hippie:

IASW was one of my favorites as a kid, and last year my dd3 had to do three repeats. She just loved it. I didn't think she'd like it as much as some other stuff, but she did.

I also thought the dolls looked much better than when I was there the last time about 7 years ago. I'm sure we'll end up doing it again a few times next year.

I haven't been to AK yet, and I can't remember enough about anything else to have a say.

The Speedway was boring, but my kid enjoyed driving the car. Her first time driving.

Attractions that I will fight tooth and nail to keep from going on again. . .

MK- Stich, Tom Sawyer's Island

Epcot- Universe of Energy, Journey into Imagination (only if I can still have Figment, because if he were to ever leave again, well. . .)

MGM- Backlot Tour, unless they somehow up the pacing

AK- I'll find out in July.

If you were in charge of getting rid of one attraction from each park, which would you choose? Here's my list:

MK - Astro Orbiters
AK - Tricerotop Spin
MGM - American Film Institute Showcase
Epcot - Circle of Life

MK- Stitch!
AK- Everything in Dino-rama!
MGM- Sounds Dangerous!
Epcot- Body Wars!

I can't believe it took this long for someone to say Stitch. This is the worst attraction I've ever done at Disney. Throw in Sounds Dangerous with Drew Carey at MGM, that movie in France at EPCOT and I'll be happy, although if it were still there, Tarzan Rocks would make it for AK.

For me, the movie at the Canadian pavilion in Epcot has got to GO!!!! It is so freakin' outdated. When did Epcot open? 25 years ago? It's that old. I went in last fall with my family and the family we travelled with, we couldn't believe what we were seeing! We were embarrassed as Canadians. No wonder everyone in the U.S. thinks Canada is snow and prairie land. Now, the idea of the theatre being circular and the film shot in panoramic was amazing. Great cinematography! But could they please update it so the rest of the world can see that our mode of transportation isn't a canoe and our clothing isn't all flannel and Kodiak boots!
Now that that is off my chest, I agree with the choice of Triceratops as being the worst attraction!
