04-16-2004, 04:02 PM
Regarding excursions, I'm waffling. My gut reaction was to try to do one or two at each port... but now I'm thinking down time would be better.

What is everyone doing for excursions??

What are your thoughts on "go go go" vs. down time?

scottygirl

What is everyone doing for excursions??

I think we will do Key West on our own via the trolley, maybe checkout Margueritaville, Southernmost Point , etc. I'm going to check the AAA Florida book to see if they have a walking tour in there.

Grand Cayman, we will definately do the Stingray Excursion through Cap't Marvins and probably check out Seven Mile Beach.

Cozumel, I think we will do some type of beach excursion on our own.

Castaway Cay, relax on the beach.

What are your thoughts on "go go go" vs. down time?

I would like to find a happy medium between the two. :hyper: :smooth:

Hi all,

On our first cruise last Nov, we really exhausted ourselves. So this time, I am really looking forward to lots of down time, although my DH can't sit still for too long!

I think we'll do Key West on our own also. Probably take the Bone Island Shuttle to the Butterfly museum and southernmost point. The kids are not looking forward to this port at all. We made them walk too much last time.

Grand Cayman, we will do the stingray excursion probably through Captain Marvins as well.

Cozumel, Paradise Beach sounds great! Maybe some mini-golf and a horse-drawn carriage ride. I would like to stop in Carlos n Charlies in the evening.

CC- relaxing on the beach!

Of course I don't know what the rest of the family wants to do. They can't seem to get as excited as I am this far off.

TYTY
04-19-2004, 12:17 PM
Hmm...Excursions,

sjcubedofct - as you know we'll probably do this one on our own.
I definately want to do the dolphin excursion and then anything other than that I'll probably just wing it.:bounce: A little down time will be nice.

Hey, I see we're down to less than 200 days.

sjcubedofct
04-19-2004, 02:02 PM
TYTY, so glad you made it to this topic. *wink*

Yes, you are on your own with the dolphins, have fun! We're still considering the stingrays, although now I feel compelled to check Captain Marvin's site.

As for Cozumel, I just don't know!!!

My parents sent lots more info about Key West, I'll have to show you. Not sure yet what is on tap there.

Castaway Cay, I agree, there is a beach blanket and a frosty drink with my name on it!

SJ

PS- 199 days left to go, 199 days left to go... take one down pass it around, 198 days left to go.... *giggle*

Hello fellow cruisers. I just thought I would make a post so we don't end up on the last page! I got my DCL Passporter in the mail yesterday and I am going to spend this cold, rainy day in Michigan reading it in my nice, warm bed! Hope everyone is doing fine.

Hi to all -
We (me and DW) just noticed this thread and can't wait for our cruise. Is it too early to start thinking about a Disboard meeting
place, day and time yet ? We talk about the cruise with our children and grandchildren almost every day. The anticipation
is half the fun.

scottygirl
04-26-2004, 09:56 AM
howardk613,

We could start coming up with Disboards meet location and time suggestions. This is our 1st DCL cruise so I unfortunately can't help with any ideas!

We still haven't told our kids about the cruise yet. We were watching the Extreme Makeover show where the family went on the DCL cruise and I asked my oldest what he would do if he were on a cruise and he said "swim in the pool." Well that just cracked me up because it doesn't matter where we go, the kids biggest concern is the POOL!!

If anticipation is half the fun then maybe I need to tell the kiddies soon!

TYTY
04-26-2004, 12:35 PM
Hi,

I can't help out with a meeting place either because this will be our first time also.

Scottygirl, you have to tell the kids. My son has known about it since last February and the closer we get the more excited he's getting. We watch the tape at least once a week (haven't gotten the DVD yet).

scottygirl
04-27-2004, 07:42 PM
TYTY,

Talked to DH and told him that it's time to share the fun with the kiddies. We will tell them soon. I'm trying to come up with a fun way to tell them. I have a DCL puzzle and the DVD. Any suggestion? Let's get this thread rolling!! I have read some of the other Cruisemeets threads and they are having a lot of fun in cyberspace!

Well, *I* am the queen of planned procrastination. When we took our first WDW trip, we didn't tell our DS6 until my sister and her daughter (age 7) showed up. We had the video camera ready to tape his response, and his cousin bounced into the backyard and asked my DS "Wanna go to Disney World?"

What did DS do? He ran into further into the back yard, yelling "NO, I WANT TO PLAY WITH MY COUSIN IN THE BACK YARD!"

I kid you not. We had to drag him into the car, practically kicking and screaming. It took about five minutes of explaining where we were going and that his cousin was going too before he realized it MIGHT be more fun than staying home and playing in the back yard.

And we got it all on tape. Can't wait 'til he's engaged! LOL

We delayed telling him because I didn't want to hear "When are we going?" a billion times. And honestly, that was kind of nice, LOL.

This trip, we hadn't told DS (now 9), until this weekend, even though we've been planning for the last year plus. And we told him this weekend because even though we've been talking about the trip in front of him and brochures are left about the house, he hadn't noticed until a conversation at a wedding this past weekend. Someone asked me (in his presence) about an exciting vacation we had planned, and DS looked inquisitively at me. So I asked him if he'd like to visit the Carribean (we had also watched Pirates of the Carribean for the first time last week). He naturally said YES! because he wants to now be a pirate, LOL. So I asked him if he wanted to visit Mexico, the southernmost point of the US, and Mickey's personal island. He's excited, to say the least.

We'll be using this over the next several months as geography, history, cultural and social lessons- I'm as excited about this as he is! Plus, we can now start the "Do you really want to buy that toy? Perhaps you should save that $5 for the cruise..."

TYTY's son was very concerned that we hadn't told our DS, but is very happy now that he's in the know, LOL. And finally, my DS and his cousin can chat about the fun they will have in November!!

Anyway, that's my procrastination story. :)

Oh, and as for a Disboard meet on board, I'm with TYTY and Scottygirl.

scottygirl
04-28-2004, 02:37 PM
sjcubedofct,

Loved your story! We thought about not telling the kids until we got to the port, but frankly I don't think I can keep a secret that long! It's killing me now as it is. Friends, family and neighbors know we are going (spilled the beans at Bunco after that second glass of wine) now I feel like I am lying to my kids! I think my kids are old enough now that I won't get that when are we going, when are we going line!

I love your idea about using the months ahead as a learning tool. I always try to get them to do some summer enrichment (other than the pool). The library has a great summer program and maybe I can encourage them to read about the places we are visiting.

Hey Howard, we need your advice!!!

Talk to you later cruisers!

It's a monthly opportunity for 12 women to get together and play a dice game while chatting and munching. I'm an alternate for my sister's group, so I only play two or three times a year, but it's a great group of women and we have a good time.

All of our previous cruise have been in the spring. Anyone ever cruised in Nov before? How is the weather? DO we need to worry about hurricanes?

TYTY
05-04-2004, 12:18 PM
Hi :smooth:

I've sailed twice before in Nov. The first was smooth sailing. The second we had to miss one of our islands because there was a hurricane near it. Honestly, if the captain didn't tell us this, I never would have known. It was beautiful and sunny out, we just sailed on to our next island.

jerry112
05-04-2004, 03:46 PM
We sailed last Nov. and the weather was perfect. Never too hot or humid and not a drop of rain. The ship rocked quite a bit our first night out and then it really rocked again on the last night.
I wouldn't worry about hurricanes at all!

Anyone ever cruised in Nov before? How is the weather? DO we need to worry about hurricanes?

I have cruised in October which is still prime hurricane season and we had fabulous weather. Only the first night was rough which seems to be pretty common.

For those who have read my above posts, we told the kiddies about the cruise this weekend and naturally they are really excited!:bounce: :bounce: :Pinkbounc I am glad we told them because it has been fun sharing all the exciting details.

Any ideas out there on where or when to have the DISmeet?

Our last DisMeet on our Nov 2002 cruise was right in front of Scoops, the kids got to swim while we chatted for a few. Not that many people showed up though:(

scottygirl
05-05-2004, 10:48 AM
lUVTOGO,

I'll show up! I love to meet new people and I'm not shy! :chat: I think some people may be hesitant because afterall this is an internet forum and there are some weirdos out there.
Also, a lot of people are with big groups and may not have the time or inclination to meet. That's okay, whatever floats your boat:boat:. Also people may think that if you meet you may be stuck with hanging with these DISers all week. Well that is not the case, it's a big ship and you may not see the same people twice all week. :wave2:

Scoops sounds good to me. Now when is a good meeting time?

scottygirl
05-11-2004, 11:56 AM
sjcubedofct,

Glad someone else out there is reading this thread!! I was getting lonely.:( I definately want to do the PALO brunch and dinner. Days and times will depend on what restaurant rotation we get. Not sure about the Spa. I'm considering a massage, but it's not a big priority for me or DH. I will utilize the exercise equipment though!

sjcubedofct
05-11-2004, 12:59 PM
My sister and I are doing a sprint triathalon in August, so I'm hoping to keep up my running through the cruise- maybe we'll catch up in the mornings for a run around the deck?

lUVTOGO
05-11-2004, 01:02 PM
Were definetley doing brunch! This was a highlight of our last cruise. Palo's dinner too! We don't pick specific days, we just wing it!! When they have a time, we show up! This cruise should be a little different though, as my neice is going with us, so we should be able to get to some of the nightclubs this time. And the kids are a little older so they might want to all go to the movies together, so we can have some time to do somethings!!!! As for excursions I think we are going to Seven Mile Beach or Paradise beach in Grand Cayman, Key West I think we will just walk around and see the sights, Cozumel I am still undecided! And we will have a few Konk Coolers at CC.

Mickeyswife
05-11-2004, 07:41 PM
I just don't look at this thread enough. I GET TOO EXCITED when I start thinking of this cruise. We are planning on doing Palo's for brunch and dinner and high tea. We did high tea last time and it was fun, acting very British with a raised pinky finger!! We want to do the tour on Cozumel where you take a bus to see the ruins. I don't think we will do any of the other planned tours, just go off on our own. I appreciate all your comments. We found on our last Nov. cruise only one other person showed up for the meet. We'll be happy to come and Scoops sound like a good place right after the fire drill. Til later. Nancy

sjcubedofct,

My sister and I are doing a sprint triathalon in August, so I'm hoping to keep up my running through the cruise- maybe we'll catch up in the mornings for a run around the deck?

I've run a 5K but no more than that! Good luck on that triathalon. Some of my girlfriends are trying to get me to do a 1/2 marathon, but frankly I don't see how I could find the time to train for it. My DH is a runner too and he will be out on deck 4 for sure in the mornings. If I can get my butt out of bed I'll be there too!::yes::

lUVTOGO,
The PALO brunch is a definate must for us too. I heard they have Alaskan King Crab legs? DH may never leave the table! I was looking through my Passporter and in Cozumel they have an excursion called the Fury Catamaran Sail and Snorkle that looks like a lot of fun. They give it 10 out of 10. We are seriously considering going on it.

Mickeyswife,

We are excited too! I check my email once a day and then always seem to go on the DISboards and check things out.

So it looks like we may be leaning towards a DISmeet at Scoops right after the lifeboat drill? What does everyone else think?

:listen:

sjcubedofct
05-12-2004, 10:50 AM
I have a feeling that right after the lifeboat drill, won't lots of us first timers be eager to explore the ship? I'm sure our kids will be chomping at the bit to check stuff out and swim!

Clearly, we'll defer to you cruise veterens because some of us don't know when the best time is.

scottygirl
05-15-2004, 05:58 PM
Here is a recent thread on DISmeets. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=569046

Actually Scoops is right near the Mickey Pool so if the kids wanted to swim, they could. But it doesn't matter to me where we meet. Maybe we can meet at night in Sessions for drinks?? I am starting to look at excursions too! Last cruise we took the Golden Eagle Catamaran excursion in ST. Marteen, and it was way to rough for me. I almost didn't make it to the Island. I am not good with Motion, but the cruise motion didn't bother me as long as I took Bonine. Is anyone flying in Friday night before the cruise?

jjgarv
05-16-2004, 12:53 PM
We will be flying in Friday afternoon and staying at Holiday inn Select at the airport. Still trying to decide on taking towncar/limo to port or DCL bus. In laws will be with us, so DW wants them to experience the whole shebang, this will be our third DCL cruise. We will be living in PA in NOv but weill still fly out of Wash Dull, my parents live here in VA. On an earlier chat one of you went to RBC in NJ for high school, who was it again?

lUVTOGO,

Go to the first post on page one of this thread where sjcubedofct has been keeping tabs on who is sailing with us and when they are arriving. Several of us are arriving on Friday or earlier! We are staying at the MCO Hyatt Friday evening. Our flight arrives at 6:40 pm. I figure we will grab a quick bite to eat and then let the kiddies swim at the pool. Some people have met at the Promenade Lounge for their DISmeets. That way if you need to bring the kids you can and if you want a drink you can get that too. :drinking1

jjgarv,

We are taking the DCL bus to port and then renting a car on the way back because we have a late flight back home.

Catamaran racing in Key West is possible for DH and DS, and they will probably do the bottom fishing in CC again, too. Not sure what else yet. I keep changing my mind!

We'll be down to 5 months very soon! ::yes::

I received my passport a few weeks ago. I had a British passport that expired and needed to get a US passport since I became a US citizen 2 years ago. Even though passports are not required, I feel it is easier to travel with them, plus the thought of losing and replacing my naturalization certificate is SCARY! It was much easier to apply for the passport!

We are still convinced we want to do Stingray City on our own. For all of you experienced cruisers, any thoughts on which company to use? Capt Marvins, Capt Bryan's or Nativeway?

We are considering the Fury Catamaran or Paradise Beach in Cozumel.

lUVTOGO
05-30-2004, 02:15 PM
I think we are going to do Paradise Beach in Cozumel. Then maybe after dinner if the kids want to go to the clubs, maybe we will check out Carlos & Charlies(I think that is the name) I do not think they will swim with the stingrays, so I might look into Horseback riding on the beach in Grand Cayman, or is there a tour you can take of the island?

In Key West we will probably just walk around, have a Margarita in Margaritaville.(They are the best). Watch the sunset.

Getting very excited now, it's getting close!!

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum and cruising. (First cruise is this one.) My husband an I are celebrating our 15th anniversary on this cruise (om 11/11). I am so excited to go I can't stand it! :Pinkbounc

We are on the late dinner rotation. If we had kids, we would bring them. I am Renee (39) and my husband is Stephen (46). We are from LoCal (Escondido near San Diego) and have been Disneyland passholders since moving here in 1998 from Utah.

As for excusions, we are staying on the boat in Key West. We are planning on a Stingray City excursion in Grand Cayman and a Mayan ruin excursion in Cozumel. Bike riding is the plan for Castaway.

I saw a Bunco thread in here. I use to play, but our group broke up a couple years ago.

We would love to meet those on the forum. LMK when a "meet" place is established.

Looking forward to meeting all of you!

Hi Karen,

We arrive Friday. We will be at the Hyatt in Orlando that night. Since it is our first time, I am letting Disney take care of everything.

We have family in Jersey (Hampton). Are you close?

Take care,

Renee,

Hampton is about 1 hour NW of me. We're down in central NJ on the shore. I have family in Easton, PA which looks to be fairly close to Hampton, though.

On our first cruise, last year, we also preferred to let disney handle everything. This time, we'll venture out on our own.

My dad lives up in northern CA. (Eureka). He's been there for years but i've never been there yet. Someday! For now we've been bitten by the DCL bug.

Were you happy with how Disney handled everything for you (air, transfers, et al)? Did you have clear instructions as to where to go and when? The price didn't seem to much more than if I did it on my own. We are also booked for the 2/5/05 cruise (my 40th b'day (2/9) - Eastern). If it looks like I can figure it out, maybe I will cancel them booking my flights, hotel and transfers and do it on my own. If it was to the park, no problem. Since it is the cruise and I don't know anything, I think I am better off letting them take care of it for me.

Your dad lives really far from me. Hopefully, you can come out to CA to see him. We are Disneyland regulars, so if you ever make your way down here we would be happy to show you around.

Talk to you soon.

Renee,

Actually, we drove down to port canaveral from NJ. But we went through disney with all our excursions. I'm sure some of our cruise mates will be able to answer all your questions, though. Everyone here is pretty helpful.

Friends of ours will be cruising with us in Nov. and they will be booking everything separately. We will be driving down again. DH refuses to fly, and we're pretty used to the 17 hour ride by now. Done it at least 13 times.

Renee,

Welcome to our thread! We seem to have a lot in common. We are celebrating our 15th anniversary too. Our actual date is 10-7, however, we have 3 kids who are coming along with us and the 11-6 cruise worked into the school schedules better. We too are arriving on Friday night and staying at the Hyatt, although we booked air and hotel on our own. We are using DCL transfers to get to the port.

I have a very good friend who lives in San Diego (Point Loma). I am going to visit her in January hopefully. I have been out there once before and I absolutely love it!!!!!

We are still working on the DISmeet, no official plans yet, but I for one will be attending.

Hi ScottyGirl,

You know... Point Loma is under 100 miles away from Disneyland (and it is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2005).:D January is just before the rainy season here (the rest of the world calls it February), so you should be here at a great time. Point Loma is a great location, and it is definitely the off season so you should have a fantastic time with your friend.

Where are you flying in from? I am wondering how it works out (getting back to Orlando). I am assuming it is organized (since it is Disney after all). How does it normally work? Do you know?

This is our first "real" vacation since we have been married. We have never lived close to our family (San Francisco Bay Area), so if we are going somewhere, it is usually there. I am already booked for the Eastern 2/5 cruise for my 40th birthday. Can't wait for either trip. I am constantly thumbing through my PassPorter book. It sounds like it is pretty crazy the first few hours on board while everyone is trying to book Palo, the Spa, et al. Any suggestions?

Talk to you soon.

Sherry, Renee and the rest of Nov 6 cruisers my first name really is scottygirl. Just kidding it's Jackie. Now that we are getting to know each other better maybe we should be on a first name basis.

Renee,

I think we are seeking warmer weather in January, maybe the desert or Mexico. But thanks for the suggestion. We are flying out of DTW (Detroit Metro). When you check into the Hyatt you let them know you are cruising with DCL and they give you instructions on where to meet the shuttle in the morning. From what I understand they pick you up at the Hyatt. Our goal is to get on the first bus in the morning so we get to the terminal sooner. I am not going to get too worked up about the Palo ressies. I will go to where they are taking the ressies as soon as we board and if we get them great, if not, we will try later in the week for a cancellation.

My mantra will be: I am on vacation and I will relax.:boat:

Last cruise we got to the Port at 2:30 ish and we still got Palo Brunch and Dinner Ressies. I'm still not sure were we are staying the night before yet. The Radisson is probably the best way to go because your only a shuttle ride away from the ship. My kids want to stay in Disney, but I am nixing that as our annual passes run out in August, and don't want to hear the Whining .."Wadda ya mean we can't ride the Rock n Roll Rollercoaster"

Hi Sherry (SJ), Jackie and Maryann,

It is going to be so easy for me to remember your names -- a good friend of mine is a Sheri, one of my husband's half sisters is a Jacki, and who doesn't like Maryann from Gilligan's Island (she was my favorite). :D

Thanks for the Hyatt tip. I know me enough to know I will want to be on the first bus (even if I am jet-lagged). I am the planner in the family. I have already started buying stuff for the trip (like travel size stuff and water socks). Do they have shampoo and conditioner in the rooms or should we bring our own?

Have any of you read the DCL PassPorter book? It is great and it is how I found this site. I got the book through EBAY. One DCL link I have been checking out is http://**********************/. My favorite part is the menu links. Through them I learned I better find somewhere else to eat on Mexicali night. :D

I have not had penpals before, so it is going to be great meeting you all in person in five months and five days (but who is counting?).

(Maryann - Out here our equivalent of the Rock n Roll Rollercoaster is California Screamin'. The line is never bad and a lot of fun. One of these years I will make it to WDW and try out the real deal.)

Have a great day Wednesday!

Renee,

From what I understand you should bring your own shampoo and conditioner. Not sure if it's because they don't give you any or enough or if it's crappy. I for one am really particular about my hair care products and will bring my own. That being said, I also end up with really bad hair when it's humid, so maybe it won't matter!

I have been picking up things here and there also. I ordered matching outfits from the Disneystore for tropical/mexicali night $80 outfitted the whole family. I am not sure if my DH will agree to wear them.

I have the DCL PassPorter and I love it.

Hi All,

I finally had a couple of minutes to check in on this thread.

Happy Anniversary to all who will be celebrating on our cruise.

We will also be celebrating our 15th Anniversary on 11/11

I always tell DW(Glenda) that I don't have to remember our anniversary I just have to remember veterans day.

I noticed something while surfing earlier that will interest any other ParrotHeads out there. The Sunday that we will be in Key West is the last day of the international ParrotHead convention.

It sounds like a party to me.

I will try to check in more often as we get closer,

Hi John,

What time did you get married? We were 11AM, Mountain. If you got married at 12 Central, we would have had our weddings at exactly the same time. :-) Are you and your wife doing the romance escape at sea? Stephen and I are. It is a little pricy, but you get premium seating at Palo and a few other perks. There is a link in one of the other disboard areas where someone described tbere experience doing the REAS and it sounds great.

What are ParrotHeads? Also, what is your wife's name and are you bringing kids or coming solo?

Renee,

I don't recall the exact time of our wedding but it was around noon or a little earlier as we had a luncheon for our reception.
We honeymooned at WDW and have been going back on or around our anniversary for about the last 10 years.

My DW's birthday is 11/8 and this will be the 4th year in a row that we have celebrated it as well as our anniversary on either the Wonder or Magic.

A ParrotHead is a Jimmy Buffet fan. There are alot of us here and it seems to be growing every day with all of his new stuff with various country music stars.

I do not know if he will appear in Key West when we are there. I do know that his tour is over in September and he has been known to pop up for unanounced concerts at Margarittaville.

Hi all,

It's been a long time since I've visited this thread. Since we're using first names now, mine is Paula and Sherry (sjcubedofct) and I and our families and friends are traveling together.

I have the new PassPorter and am 1/4 of the way through it. There's a lot of great information in it.

I ordered the tropical shirt for my son and was going to order the dress for me but then I thought my son wouldn't go for it. If anybody's thinking of buying them, do it now while they're on sale!

Renee: What a great day! I can't wait until mine is paid in full.

Have a great weekend everybody!

Renee and Paula and the rest of my fellow cruisers,

Did you see my above post? I purchased the light blue Island Mickey/Minnie clothes for our family. I am not sure the boys are going to go for it!! I got free shipping so I figured I don't have much to lose if I have to send them back. I used a code from www.mousesavers.com to get an additional 10% off. I think the free shipping is only good through today, I'm not sure when the mousesavers code expires. Just thought I would pass the info along in case anyone is interested. :wave2:

Congrats on that paid off cruise! I will make my final payment to the TA on Aug 27th. I booked the Stingray City excursion through nativewaywatersports yesterday. We are doing th 2 1/2 hour excursion that also stops at Coral Gardens for snorkeling. The kids have been practicing snorkeling in the pool and are getting pretty good at it.pirate: pirate: princess:

Good evening!

I am quickly becoming aware that I will be spending approx. the cost of the cruise getting ready for the cruise. :D

Recent purchases include "water socks". Don't know if any of you live near a Robinson May, but they were on sale and under $10. (No particular brand name, but blue and yellow so we won't lose them.)

Also, on one of the boards someone suggested making your own autograph book because the ones on the ship are the same ones they have in the parks. The book I bought today is called "Memory Book" 6x8 by Paper Reflections. It cost under $5 with a Michaels coupon (craft store). The paper is recycled and acid free/lignin free. My plan is to meet every character on ship and have them sign one page and put a photo on the opposite page. When ever I am at Disneyland, I am 7 again. Somehow the Sleeping Beauty is the real one when I am there. I am expecting the same excitement on the ship (even if I am 7 + 32).

Have a great Sunday everyone! (Sherry, Maryann, Paula, John, Tony and Jackie -- and anyone else reading this thread.)

Sweet cruise dreams.

Hello Everyone,

Last cruise we didn't even get autograph books(can't remember why). For this cruise I am sure they will want them, and since we have 2 full ones from WDW, the ones at Michaels sound great!!

As for tropical outfits, we still have the ones we wore from St. Martin for a few hours, I might just pull that one out again for me:eek: , the kids have plenty of tropical clothes since it is the rage right now, and my husband has a few shirts up there I am sure he will bring.

It would sure be great if Jimmey Buffet did appear at Margaritiville, as I love his music and every time I hear it it signals vacation memories!!

Good morning fellow cruisers! I created a spreadsheet several months ago that helps with your dining rotation and when to pick spa appts or Palo dining. RClarkofNC has gratiously posted it on his website http://www.clarktechnology.com/cruise. I thought I was so clever when I created it but I have since seen several charts that give you the same info. Why is it I always come up with that million dollar invention after it's to late?:)

I received our matching outfits from the Disneystore and of course my dress does not fit. Way too long, in the bodice and skirt. I have now ordered the sarong, we'll see if that works, otherwise the whole family will match except me.

Maryann,

Wouldn't that just make the Key West experience if Jimmy Buffet was there? I've seen him in concert and it is so much fun.

Renee,

Ah, the hidden costs of vacation! I just don't let DH know about them since I do all the planning. I just have to tell the time and place to show up.

Sherry,

Oh yes, I'm still here, it's an overwhelming time of year at work for me. I work at a university, so this is a time of moving, cleaning, repairing, working around summer groups... did I mention I hate summer? I long for the routine days of Sept-May.

Can't think about the cruise now, but Paula keeps me in touch with what's happening thank goodness. :) We'll be making some decisions about excursions and making reservations in the next month or so!!! Sounds like Capt. Marvins is the way to go... although frankly, with as busy as I am right now, just laying on the beach nearest port sounds good to me.

Hi All,

I totally understand "crunch" time at work. (I am in the Software biz.) We are pretty busy right now, and will be until close to cruise time. I just finished a certificate program today through University of California, San Diego (Software Project Management). Yeah! It was an intense four-month program. I celebrated with my hubby by getting a chocolate creme frapp from Starbucks. Ever since I learned they have a bunch of stuff that doesn't have coffee or tea in it, I go there all the time. :)

Anywho...

How is everyone doing? My latest cruise related news revolves around shopping! :)

This evening at Target (not a Walmart girl) I picked up a 6pk of bubbles (for the send off party), ear plugs (we are Cat. 12 unless we are blessed with an upgrade), and Target-version Dramamine (my DH gets motion sickness really easy -- can't ride Star Tours at Disneyland without getting quizzy). I am enjoying picking up things here and there. Is the planning as fun as the cruising? Now if I can just lose 27 pounds between now and cruise day...

Just wondering if there are any Scrabble players going on the cruise? I like to play for fun (into a really good word play (style) instead of keeping score). If anyone thinks they may want to meet and play during an at sea day, LMK and I will pack my travel version.:) :)

I am so excited to meet all of my "new friends" from this thread. November can't come soon enough.

Talk to you soon.

Paula has been great with planning our trips! She's really kept us on focus, has kept a great list of stuff to bring, stuff not to miss, and other information. I'm hoping that July will be the month I can really focus on all this, as that is the not as busy month in the summer. Then, Renee, I think I'll agree that planning is almost as much fun as the cruise, LOL.

Although I have to admit it was fun this past Christmas getting ziplock bags and a shoeholder for Paula as a present! :)

I have too many other short trips between now and then to begin packing, but I'm thinking about starting a box of cruise stuff. Paula picked up some foamy soap/anti-germ stuff already to start my box, so I've go no excuse. I've just got to print out that list, carry it with me and watch the sales.

Renee,

Congrats on finishing your certificate program. Feels good to accomplish something like that! I would like to lose a few pounds before the cruise too. It's seems the older I get the harder it is to lose.

Sherry,

I LOVE Ziploc bags. I bring them on every trip and they always come in handy. I even pack the kids outfits (shirt, shorts, undies and socks) in the large bags for no hassle dressing. When it gets closer to vacation I put out a big suitcase on my bedroom floor and start tossing items I need in as I think about them. Tell Paula she needs to post on this thread so we get to "know" her better!!

Hope everyone has an awesome week!

sjcubedofct
06-14-2004, 04:33 PM
Jackie, the creator of the ziplock bag had to be a woman. When I send my DS9 to cub scout camp, I pack each day's clothing in a ziplock and write the day of the week on it. Ziplock bags take away the "I can't find a clean pair of underwear" excuse, which makes for much happier counselors. I keep ziplocks in my car, too, just in case. You can never have enough ziplock bags...

The ziplock bags I gave to Paula were special- they had snowflakes on them! Yep, I love the decorated ones! :)

Okay, so we are now making our reservation for the hotel the night before we fly out of CT. Also, they have a pool, so we get to start our vacation as soon as we get there! :)

What hotel is that as we still haven't made any formal plans where to stay the night before? I was thinking of the Radisson, we would rent a car, drive there, turn in the car and take the shuttle over to the ship. When we get off the cruise, we don't fly home until Sunday evening(much cheaper airfare), so I have to find a place for that night also. I believe the Radisson is close to $100.00 though and we would only be there for a few hours. Too many decisions!!!

Problem #2
My neighbors are supposed to be going on the cruise also, and my neice is registered in their room, as there is only 3 of them. Now they are not sure if they are going, so I might have to switch over to a CAT 4, which at this late date is probably going to cost way to much! Or else tell her she can't go, which I know I can't do!! I am really looking forward to her first Disney Cruise!

* 2 Hand-Pressed Compression Bags (Dirty Laundry)

Hi Lisa,

Don't think a meet time has been established yet. Right now, my husband and I are planning on staying on board in Key West (because it is Sunday) and Cozumel (a little too scared of Mexico). Plan on getting off in Grand Cayman and Castaway Cay. We are thinking about going to Stingray City and the Turtle place (Tortuga - Hmmm - Maybe I should put Pirates in the DVD before I go to bed). In Castaway Cay I think we will do bike riding.

If you end up staying on board in Key West and/or Mexico, you are welcome to hang out with us.

Talk to you soon.

Yep, we're staying at the Raddison. We figured since it would cost between $40-50 to leave the car somewhere else without staying overnight, plus getting up at the crack of oh my gosh to drive up there Friday morn, it's better to just stay in a hotel near the airport. (Paula convinced me of this!) We opted for the Radisson because it has a pool, and what better way to start our vacation than at a hotel with a pool? (I couldn't convince Paula to stay at the Rad, she has another local hotel she prefers, LOL)

Haven't yet started packing, but will be sure to add stuff from your list that we don't have to our list!

Good morning fellow cruisers,

I haven't been online since Thursday!! Busy weekend. Finished up with DH7 baseball, they had a great season, 1st place!! However, no playoffs at his level. DH10 baseball team won there 1st playoff game and will be playing again tonight, so send some pixie dust our way!

SJ,

I read your post and ILUVTOGO' s post and I think you guys are talking about two different Radisson's? You are talking about a Radisson by your home airport and ILUVTOGO is talking about the Radisson at the Port? Where are you staying on Friday night? We are at the Hyatt.

Bernee,

Thanks for the list. We will come to the Pate pharmacy when we need something!!;) I have been to Mexico twice and haven't once felt threatened or scared. If you stay in the tourist areas you will be fine. Maybe you should consider a DCL excursion in Cozumel. We are thinking about the Fury Catamaran Sail and Snorkle with DCL. I believe they have a DCL rep on the excursions.

RIDISNEYLOVERS,

We are looking for suggestions on where and when to meet. Someone mentioned 3:00 by Scoops, figuring that the kids could swim while the adults chatted. :chat:

lUVTOGO,

That is too bad about your niece. I hope your neighbors change their minds. If not, have you considered 2 connecting staterooms instead of a cat 4? It might be cheaper. We are in a cat 4 because DH really wanted a verandah. Two connecting Cat 10's would have been $800 less.

Scottygirl - 3:00pm at scoops sounds good to me - right now anyway. That is on Saturday when we board right?

Also, the people in my family are myself (Lisa), DH (Paul), DD 4 (Savannah) and DD 1 1/2 (Alexis)!!

This is Alexis's 1st cruise - I was pregnant with her on our last cruise in November 2002 - this is Savannah's 2nd cruise and she LOVED, I mean LOVED the mickey pool - she spent so much time swimming in the ear!! - She was potty trained at the time we went but just wouldn't get out of Mickey's ear!!

We had a blast and can't wait for our first 7 day!!

Lisa,

Yes, Saturday.

What does everyone else think? DISmeet
3:00 by Scoop's on embarkation day? Does anyone else have any other suggestions or ideas?

By the way, I sent back our matching outfits to the Disneystore. I really wasn't happy with the quality or the fit. Everything was way too long for me. DD7 dress was too big in the body, a smaller size would have been too short. Anyway I was able to pick up some shirts for the boys and a dress for DD7 at Old Navy. We will all have coordinating but not matching tropical wear .

DS10's baseball team has made it to the semi-finals. If they win tonight they will play in the championship game on Saturday. Send some pixie dust our way!!:wizard: He is really excited.

SJ,
Yes, well, some days I'm blonder than others. I have a blonde moment for you. Look at my previous post I referred to my DS10 and DS7 as DH's. Cradle robber? Two husbands 10 and 7?

3:00 by Scoop's sounds good to me, but I'm always open to other suggestions/ideas. What do you think Sherry?

I received DS's shirt from the Disney Store but haven't open the package yet. I'll check it out this weekend.

DS8's team was eliminated in the 1st round of our playoff's which was really sad after having a 17-1 season record. Now were starting the All-Star's. Good luck on Saturday. Our 1st All-Star game is 7/5.

Have a great day everybody!!

3:00 by Scoops sounds good to me!! That's where I was on the last cruise drinking a Bahama Mama!!! I am going to book the Radisson by the Port for the night before! I finally made up my mind!

What's everyone doing for the 4th? I'll be working all weekend, then on the 7th it's off to Disney for a week! I haven't even started packing or thinking about packing.

Have a Good Weekend!

My only concern about squeezing a meeting into Saturday is that this is my first time cruising, and I'm already feeling overwhelmed. Will having the meeting the first day on the ship, while we're still settling in a good idea or am I thinking too much? Is there time for settling in, checking out the ship with kiddos, making appropriate reservations, taking a deep breath and having a margarita on Saturday before 3p?

If you experienced cruisers say there is, then let's add it to the schedule.

Oh, do we bring kids to this? Or just those of us who live and breath cruise information on this website? LOL

SJ

Sherry,

Are you planning on getting to the port early? If you board the ship at 12:00, I think there will be plenty of time to get settled and do all the ressies. Of course the margarita can be enjoyed at the DISmeet! We are planning on being on the first DCL bus to the port and boarding ASAP. I love all the info on the DISboards but sometimes I think too much info can be dangerous as it makes us anxious about getting everything just right, if you know what I mean! I plan on bringing my family to the meet, the kids can swim and maybe make a few new friends.princess: pirate: pirate:

Maryann,

We are going "Up North" for the 4th. In Michigan going "Up North" is the equivalent of going to "The Shore" except there is no ocean, just some beautiful Great Lakes!! :sunny: :boat: Have fun at WDW.

By the way DS10's baseball team "The Bees" were the AA League Tournament champions!! :thewave:

Well, we'll have rental vans to return to budget that morning, so I imagine we can be at the port when we need to. What time would you suggest?

Scoops at 3p sounds good, I'll try not to stress about accomplishing too much before then. I'm sure it will all fall into place.

Sherry,

It seems like people here on the DISboard say to get to the port by 10:00-10:30. You will have to wait in line but that will give you time to explore the terminal and plan your Palo and Spa times after getting your KTTW card. Your biggest challenge may be getting all the people in your party to the same place at the same time!!!

Thanks, Jackie! :)

Also, I'm an avid reader. For me, the best part of laying out in the sun and relaxing is reading a great book. Plus, a book is essential to endure the whole airport/airplane fiasco. I know there is a thread about this on the boards, but thought we could chat about it here, too!

In the last several months, I've read and completely enjoyed the following:

The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
The Lovely Bones by Alice Seybold
Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon
Private Matters of Lord John Grey by Diana Gabaldon
Bel Canto by Ann Patchett
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
Holes by Louis Sachar
Midwives by Chris Bohjalian
Left Behind Series by Tim Lahaye, Jerry B. Jenkins
The Day I Turned Uncool: Confessions of a Reluctant Grown Up by Dan Zevin
The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warner
A Theory of Relativity by Jacquelyn Mitchard

Anything by: Orson Scott Card, Patricia Daniels Cornwell, Jonathan Kellerman

What do you guys recommend?

Hi Everyone,

I called my Travel Agent today and I think we are going to go into a CAT4. This way if my neighbors do decide not to cruise, I will not be waiting for a cabin at the last minute. (My neice was on their ressies)

So now my neice will surely be able to go. Plus my sister already has her airfare booked, so she wouldn't be to happy if she wasn't able to go!

It is room 8524, have to go look at the deck plans to see exactly where that is!

Jeez, The time is flying!! Only 4 more months to go!

Glad to hear you have worked things out and congratulations you are our neighbor!!! We are in 8526. I think it will be a good location, not too far forward and not under the Goofy Pool!!

Sherry,

I just finished reading A Walk Around the West Indies by Hunter Davies. It is sort of a travelog about several Caribbean Islands written by a Brit. I enjoyed it but there are a few snippy remarks about Americans in the book!:earseek: I am starting on 12,000 Miles in the Nick of Time by Mark Jacobson, I'll let you know how it is. I have read several of the books on your list, The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon (SPICY!!), Midwives by Chris Bohjalian and I love Patricia Cornwell and Jonathan Kellerman too!

I'm new to the disussion

Hi everyone, I sure had fun reading all your messages and hearing all the excitment. I'm DW 40 and my DM & DD are taking me and my DD9 and DS11 on the 11/6 trip (hope I got all those correct). My parents have 10 grandchildren and have taken every one of them in pairs (each child went with a cousin) and my 2 are the last to go. I have 3 older sisters and they all got to go with one of their kids (1 sister got to go twice). Since my 2 are last and are siblings, my husband was given the choice to go and won't because he's scared to death of flying! Can you beleive someone could pass up a FREE trip. So my parents will travel with us. I'm so excited. My nieces and nephews all did the 3 day land 4 day cruise. My kids opted for the 7 day trip and I'm glad because we just visits Disneyland in CA.

Here's my question, is it necessary to plan out the island visits before hand vs. just getting off the boat and exploring?

Welcome aboard Mindymom!

Looks like we have at least 2 things in common. My DH won't fly either, but luckily (or not) we can drive to the ship. It only takes about 17 hours! LOL Also, my DS will be 11, too, when we cruise and my DD will be 7. Both of my kids loved the lab and club on our last cruise. This will be our 2nd DCL. I hope we all get a chance to meet.

To answer your question, I would research the areas a bit just to know what was around. You don't have to book any excursions unless you want to but it really helps to know alittle about where you are. Do you want shopping or beaches? Just ask away and I'm sure you'll get lots of responses.

Karen,

How funny about our DH's! We're flying from Portland, Oregon so driving wasn't really an option. I wish SO badly he was joining us. It sounds like the perfect cruise for familys.

I think my kids will want beaches during the excursions. And lots of snorkling. We really want to swim with the sting rays. My kids havn't done much traveling at all so this will be quite the adventure for them.

Welcome, Mindy! Which day are you arriving? Are you having a late or early dinner? If you want, I can add these things to the first post so we know if we're dining at the same time. :)

We're preparing to make our excursion reservations very soon. It sounds like we'll be doing the dune buggies at Cozumel and the sting rays with nativeway or capt marvin at Grand Caymen. At Castaway, we're just meandering. My parents live in Key West for some months out of the year, so they will be giving us a grand tour there.

Paula and I are supposed to be getting our group together to discuss our choices... but I'm thinking now that our best bet to plan excursions will be for each of us to get the details of what our families want, then the two of us sitting down together. Summer is so crazy, I'm not sure when we could get everyone else together! I don't know, we'll have to look at a calendar, and soon.

Mindy,

You might want to research 7-mile beach in Grand Cayman and Paradise Beach in Cozumel. Also, try looking up nativewaywatersports.com or captainmarvins.com for snorkeling with the stingrays.

Mindymom,

Welcome to our thread!! You will learn a lot of info on the DIS, sometimes too much! If you want a great book on the DCL get PassPorter's Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line and Its Ports of Call by Jennifer Watson, Dave Marx and Mickey Morgan available at passporter.com or amazon.com. The book has a lot of useful info. Our family is doing Key West on our own, Stingray City through nativewaywatersports.com and probably the Fury Catamaran Sail and Snorkle through DCL. I have spoken to the owner of Nativeway on the phone and she was very professional and helpful. I have heard great things about their excursions, so we are giving them a try.

It's too bad about your DH being afraid to fly, has he tried any programs through the airlines? I think there is a website called fearofflying.com? or fearofflying.org? that offers some help.

Also, we are planning a DISmeet on embarkation day (11/6) at 3:00 by Scoops (deck 9 by the Mickey Pool) so we can meet and chat with the other DIS'ers
on this thread. It will also give the kids a chance to make some new friends!

Thanks for the greeting Karen and Jackie. We will try to make the 3pm Scoops meeting, we only have to worry about making Brunch reservations and registering the kids in the clubs. I'd be surprised if they spend much time there, they like to act grown up and spend the time around the adults. No problems their, this is a family vacation.

Hi Jackie, et al.

I'm back. I was off for a little while -- minus a keyboard. Bought a new one Tuesday. All better now.

We plan on being at Scoops at 3PM. Can't wait to meet everyone. I need to call Debbie for my ressies. Has anyone done that yet?

My cruise box is full. Need to start another one. That's OK since we just bought my husband a huge bag (with wheels) for the trip. :-)

Hi All,

I talked to the famous "Debbie" today to make my REAS reservations. REAS is worth it just to be able to make reservations forever in advance. We are doing brunch on 11/8 (11AM) and afternoon tea @ Palo (even though we don't drink tea) at 3:30 the same day. We have our spa treament on 11/11 at 3:30 and dinner at Palo at 7:30. Since 11/11 is our big day it worked out perfect. The only thing I need to work out on the ship (at boarding time) is add'l spa treatment and Tea with Wendy. Also, if our brunch conflicts with our "breakfast w/Disney chars", we may need to make other adjustments. Whoo Who! Anyone else doing REAS and have you made your ressies yet?

Have a great night!

Mindymom,

Here is the link to the countdown timers http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=381216

We are staying at the Hyatt at MCO (Orlando Airport) It is right in the airport terminal. If you are using the DCL transfers this is the most convenient. We have early dinner at this point but we are seriously considering switching to late. We just took a 4 day trip and we were never ready for dinner until 7:00. I don't want to rush every afternoon to be ready for dinner at 6:00.

Renee,

We are not doing the REAS, but I considered it! I thought you were allowed to pick your dinner rotation when you booked your ressies so there wouldn't be any conflicts?

bernee
07-14-2004, 12:21 AM
I have heard rumor that you can set you rotation, but it wasn't discussed when I talked to Debbie.

Switch to late and see if you can dine with us! They set us to late when I booked the cruise because we are a) minus kids and b) from California. I heard there are opportunities to change rotation when you arrive, too. May want to check the regular board for suggestions.

Can't believe we are just over 80 days until we sail away. Time is speeding by... that might just be because I am getting old. :-)

Talk to you soon.

Bernee - I too booked the REAS and talked to Debbie - she was fabulous!! We have APLAPLA rotation with early seating. I booked our brunch for 10:30 am on 11/8 and we have our couple massage at 3:15 pm that same day. I booked the high tea for 3:30 on 11/11 but I may just cancel this because I read that this would conflict with the jackpot BINGO - and I don't want to miss that as I love BINGO!!

sjcubedofct - please take my DSister, her DH and her two kids DD 4 and DS 2 off of our list - my sister is PREGNANT and will not be able to sail with us. My niece is going to be so upset she is not going on "Mickey's boat". She has already started to pack for the cruise!! I hope my DD still has fun without her in the kids club!!

Just got back last night from our week long trip to DisneyWorld! Now I can kick into my cruise mode, and count down the time until our RELAXING vacation!!(lol) We love Disney but it is a lot of walking and early mornings, late nights, and boy was it hot!!

We are still going to keep our Cat 6 room as my sister thought it was to much to switch into a CAt 4. So it is still up in the air if my neice goes with us or not.

Our good friends just booked the cruise last week, they also have 2 kids, dd9 who is my daughters best friend, and her ds 11. Her parents are also going to join us. And possibly our other freind who went to FLa with us last year.

So our group is growing!!

I will be sure to be at Scoops at 3 p.m..

And half the stuff in my suitcase is going to stay in there for our trip so does that mean I am 1/2 way packed!!

How is everybody's summer going?

Maryann, glad to hear you had a good time on your trip to WDW. One of our local radio stations host a trip to WDW every year and then they broadcast from the radio station at the Disney Studios. They give away trips for 4 to listeners, usually a 4 night stay, park passes and airfare!! They were there last week and I listened with envy! We were there last year at the same time they broadcast and we were on the radio with them. It was a lot of fun but we did not win the trip it was just coincidence that we were there at the same time.

Isn't that funny, my DS is also always surrounded by girls, neighbors, cousins, etc. He will be starting VMMS in Sept. and is really excited but quite nervous too. I'd love to stop in A&P one day. What days and times are you usually there?

See you soon,

Hi All,

I found something really fun for the trip...It is an photo album, archive safe (acid-free and lignin-free pages), that holds 4x6 pictures and you just slide the photos into the album. There is about an inch border around each picture. I am going to use it for character shots and autographs. It was $7.99 at Target. It should go on sale some day -- everything at Target eventually goes on sale and/or disappears. :-) They have albums of all sizes. The web site is http://www.johnportereverydayarchives.com/everyday.htm. /www.johnportereverydayarchives.com if you want to see their products.

My cruise box is officially flowing over. Everytime I think I have bought the absolute last item, I think of something else. The latest was a toothbrush for my husband. Anyone else start their cruise shopping yet? :-)

Hope everyone is enjoying their summertime.

Talk to you soon.

What are your thoughts on "go go go" vs. down time?

Good morning!

Have you decided on excursions or stay on the ship yet? We are for sure staying on the ship in Cozumel. I think I will use the money we save from shopping and excursions that day at the spa. I have been reading Navigators posted on other sites, and it looks like there is a spa special everyday.

For Grand Cayman, we will most likely do Stingray City (probably through DCL).

For Key West our plan is to stay on the boat as well. If we did get off the ship, it would be to go to the southern most point.

Of course there is no way I am staying on the ship at CC. :-)

Can't wait to meet everyone at "Scoops".

Hi Renee,

We have already booked the stingray excursion through Captain Marvins for Grand Cayman. Did that about 10 days ago. DH and DS are going to do the Catamaran Racing in Key West and DD and myself will stay on the boat or maybe check out the butterfly museum. The rest is still up in the air.

Hope all my fellow cruisers are enjoying the summer. Yesterday the high temp here was 64 degrees and that was at 3:00 am. The rest of the day it rained and the temp hovered around 57 degrees! I thought it was fall and time for our cruise!

Gotta check my timer also. I believe I set the timer to the ships departure time of 5pm.

Just today I found out from my did that we're flying out on Thursday (instead of Friday). So excited to have the extra day of fun in Florida.

Any Ideas from anyone on what to do in one day? Is Disney World worth it?

Personally, Mindy, if you are staying Thursday night near Port Canaveral, I'd opt to just hang out at the beach and relax. The cruise will likely be a go-go-go time, so when we arrive Friday, that's what we are doing. :)

I called to make our Dune Buggy Tour reservations, and received the confirmation paperwork yesterday! Whoot! Next, I just have to decide between Capt. Marvin's and Nativeway for the stingray stuff. Then I've got to see which excursion my DMIL wants to do- something with a sub or glass bottom boat, not sure, and make that ressie, then make the ressie for a couples' massage then I'm DONE! Well, except for that minor detail of the FINAL PAYMENT, which is due in a couple of days... I'm ready, bring it on. I want the final paperwork!

I bought a HUGE suitcase for the three of us- they are on sale at TJMaxx. I figure that plus two good sized carry on's and we should be all set. I'm a light packer, and frankly, I brought WAY too much to Disney back in 2001, I'm bringing way less this time around.

Also, *I* submitted our passport applications. How are YOU doing, Paula? LOL

Are we there yet??????

SJ

I bought a HUGE suitcase for the three of us- they are on sale at TJMaxx. I figure that plus two good sized carry on's and we should be all set. Be careful with those large suitcases if you're flying. The airlines now have a 50lb limit per piece of luggage, or you get charged an over weight fee, usually at least $50 when checking in. My 29 inch piece can easily get over 50lbs, so we usually don't bring it when we fly.

sjcubedofct
07-29-2004, 09:24 AM
Oops, well, I guess we better be sure to distribute the weight well between the three bags- or maybe we'll load up an overnight with heavy stuff and check it with the huge one...

Thanks for the heads up!!

Sherry,

How's it going? I know you were busy at work. I am going to get busy here myself. Have to file my company's tax return by Sept. 15th:eek:

We are doing the Stingray excursion through Nativeway. I've heard really good things about them. I've talked to the owner on the phone, she is very personable and helpful.

Are you doing the REAS package? Hence, booking the couples massage? It seems like everyone is, might not be any Palo ressies left for me. :( We are not interested in a massage, so it's not worth it for us to book the REAS. Maybe I should reconsider.

I gave my TA my credit card info to charge my final payment at the end of this month. Next week I can pick our seat assignments online for our flight to MCO.

Mindy,

Depending on where you stay, your could take in one park at WDW or go to a waterpark. If you are staying by the port you could go to Kennedy Space Center.

TTFN,

Jackie

Jackie, which tour did you go with?

Stingray Sandbar & Coral Gardens
Rays, Reef and Rum Point
Stingray & Island Tour

I think I'm leaning towards Rays, Reef and Rum Point... got to check with DH and DSister, first though.

No REAS for us- I don't care much about getting to Palo, but DH wants a cabana massage. :)

We booked our own air, so we've got our airline seats... just waiting for the big DAY!

Sherry, We booked the Stingray Sandbar & Coral Gardens. I thought we would hit 7 Mile Beach in the afternoon. FYI the PassPorter gives the DCL excursion with the Rum Point visit a poor review. I don't know if it's just the DCL excursion or the beach itself that is a problem.

We booked our own air too, but Spirit doesn't let you pick your seats until 90 days out. I have it written in my planner so I will remember to book on the 90th day to get the best seats possible!

I think we are going to book the REAS. It is our 15th anniversary and we need to pamper ourselves. We focus so much on our children that we forget that at one time there was just "us". ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo I talked to DH and he thinks it is a good idea. I just figured he would not be interested. Sometimes he surprises me!;)

Sherry,

Hi! The Romantic Escape at Sea (REAS) consists of the following: $299 per couple, On Board you will receive: Romantic gift amenity delivered to your stateroom, Couples Massage at the Vista Spa and Salon, Priority Seating at Palo for one night, Romance turndown service (Palo night), and champagne breakfast in bed (one morning). There has been a lot of discussion on this package and here is a good thread with a lot of details. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=506211 As a courtesy Debbie in DCL dining services will also book Palo Brunch and High Tea also! So there is no ressie rush when you board. All you will have to do is sign up the kiddies for the Clubs. If you are interested in a Cabana Massage that will have to be booked separately.

We booked with our TA and I soke with Debbie in DCL dining and she is very nice and helpful. We booked Palo Dinner and Brunch and our couples massage. I am not interested in High Tea. Debbie said that for the champagne breakfast that we can order food for the kids too. How romantic!

Debbie told me the same thing as Lori was told. Your rotation choice is not guaranteed, but I bet they make an effort to accomodate you. I requested the APL rotation also. If you don't get the rotation you want then you can go to dining changes once on board and ask for it to be changed. If your ressies are linked with the other members in your party they probably won't split you up so you'll all have the same rotation whether or not it is the one you requested. Does that make sense? I think I have confused myself!!:o

I have to tell you that since I booked the REAS I feel less stressed already. We can embark and really enjoy the moment, take it all in.::yes::

I watched a show on Fine Living last night that had the top picks from the readers of Travel and Leisure magazine for 2004. For large cruises, #1 Crystal Cruises, #2 Radisson Seven Seas, #3 Oceania, #4 DCL and #5 Celebrity. Pretty good!! :boat:

The boys DS10 and DS7 need to have some structure, no more running wild or Playstation 2.

Just made my final payment a few weeks ago, booked the Raddisson for the night before, and I believe we are staying at the Portofino the night after the cruise!

Now I need to decide if we want to rent a car, or have Fla Tours pick us up and take us to the Raddisson.

I have done some clothes shopping and the nice thing is that all of the summer stuff is on clearance! I have gotten some good deals. DD is growing like a weed and I hope that all her shorts don't end up too short!!

I bought some cool scrapbooking items at Michaels. Stickers for Mexico, Florida and vacation themed. I hope to purchase a scrapbook on board.

Hi everyone :earsgirl:

My kids go back to school Sept. 8th. We finally got some rain and cool weather here in Portland, Oregon. We have actually had a really hot summer. Temp. reaching 100.

My DD9 and I have had so much fun hitting those end of the year sales on summer clothes.

I just booked an excursion with Captain Marvins (swimming with the sting rays).

I think the anticipation of the trip is just as much fun as the trip itself. It is so much fun reading all the excitement from fellow cruisers.

I ordered PassPorter' PassHolders for our family. Has anyone ever used these? They look pretty handy. They can hold your Key to the World card, ID cards, money and pens.

Hi Mindymom,

Yes, I did use the passporter passholders on our last cruise. They worked pretty well but they are not waterproof, so keep that in mind. I've read posts about using a water wallet that you can buy at Walmart, Target etc.. Thought I'd check those out.

We also booked the Stingray excursion (1/2 day) with Captain Marvins. Is it Nov. yet? You're right, planning is half the fun but sadly it will fly by when it gets here!

Not sure of the tendering time, but we're on the same excursion as you with Captain Marvins!! I've been trying in vain to make my final payment for my cruise, but my TA says that DCL won't even answer the phones for final payments now, and hopefully it will be made by Friday. She said not to worry, since we have a deposit down, and with everything going on right now, DCL probably won't care. I'm to call back by Friday if I haven't gotten anything yet. Now, another thing to worry about....

Sheri, it looks like we are on the same Nativeway excursion!!! I am really looking forward to it, I hope no one in my family gets "freaked" out from the stingrays!

Maryann, I booked an exursion through DCL for Cozumel and they faxed me a confirm that has the itnineray for the week on it. It says ashore 7:30am in Grand Cayman, so you should have plenty of time. Do you thnk there is some kind of disinfecting spray that one could bring along to spray the rental equipment with before use?

Lori, I thought you booked through ALLSEAS? Didn't you have to have your final payment to them by Aug 27th? I remember you posting that you did not receive a confrim from them on that day. I am sure there are other people in the same boat you are!

I am sure there are other people in the same boat you are! I called them about a week and half before and authorized them to charge my final payment through on the 27th. I've called them several times BEFORE Frances and they said that final payment wasn't due to Disney until 9/7 and they just put those dates down so they'll ensure they have all the information in advance. They do not charge the final payment until it's due, not on the 27th. So, I'm still waiting and have been told that if I haven't received anything by Friday, I'm to call back again.

Lori, I just checked my Disney Visa online and Allseas charged my Visa on 8/27. Seems like we are getting conflicting info from them. I also noticed that they charged a $25.00 agent fee separately from the DCL charge. However the total equaled the quoted cruise price. I am waiting for my Disney Rewards to be posted so that I can request a reward card for use on the ship.

Hi,

I had read on a different post that a DIS Meet didn't happed because of rain and nobody got to meet each other. Should we set up a backup plan incase it rains and we can't meet at Scoops?

Probably a good idea, Paula. Just tell me where and when and I'm there! Although I can't imagine meeting in the rain in the Carribean would be that big a chore. A little tropical rain could be fun. :)

My DH and I have an almost 20-month old daughter... We have been planning to leave her with Grandma and Grandpa (who are so thrilled to have Grace all to themselves), but I have never left her for an entire week and I'm having second thoughts. Grace is very comfortable with "gamma" and "gampa" and spending time at their house. (My own mother says that I'm obsessing over this too much, and to solve that problem, I should have another baby! LOL) I guess I just need reassurance from more experienced moms that leaving her behind isn't the end of the world, and maybe some of you have had similar experiences. DH and I can't wait until she's older to take her on her first WDW trip, but we felt that she's still too young to take cruisin'.

Thanks for the support!

Honey, leave that beautiful baby with those loving grandparents and don't look back! Couple time is so very important and one of the few things that take priority in marriage. Enjoy it and thank God you have loving family for support. And honestly, your daughter will probably have a better time than you will!! I always found that with my son. We went away for a 5 day weekend to St. Thomas for a wedding, and when we got back, he didn't want to hear about our trip, he wanted to tell us all the amazing things HE got to do, and wanted to know when we would go away again! ;)

Hi Jennifer,

I know how you are feeling. When my DD was 8 mo old we left her with my parents and took my DS to WDW. We had originally planned to bring her along but she had begun teething and waking up all through the night. I must say this turned out to be great. Although I called constantly and my mom had to bring her to the doctor ( I don't even remember why, now), she had a fabulous time. More importantly, my parents had a great time with her and have those memories as they are getting older. Obviously, my DD doesn't remember, but she likes to say she does. She is 7 yrs. old now.

This also turned out to be a very special and, I think, the best time my son has had at WDW. I'm sure you and your DH will make the most of this special time and you will be glad you did it. You will miss her but you'll be back before you know it!

BTW folks, we just booked our excursions. We received the 150.00 soda credit from AAA and the 200.00 rebooking credit from our last cruise and we are ready to roll! Can't wait!! :Pinkbounc

Jennifer,

I second what Sherry said about couple time. DH won a sales promotion trip to Cabo Sab Lucas when DS10 was 8 months old. We left him with my MIL and SIL and he was fine. Don't feel guilty, your daughter will probably have a ball and you will enjoy yourself much more. It will be good for your marriage and a great bonding experience for your daughter and grandparents. I found I really missed him toward the end of the trip and was happy to get home, but I never regretted going on the trip.

Sherry, (sorry Sherry I noticed I spelled your name wrong in my previous post) I think it would be a good idea to plan an alternate location for the DISmeet in the event it rains. Any suggestions? How about the Promenade Lounge? I think that is the family lounge? Can any of the seasoned DCL cruisers confrim this?

Sherry, Karen, and Jackie,

Thank you so much for your encouraging words! And you are so right about the importance of DH and I having some "couple time." DH booked our excursions today, so I'm getting more and more excited about the cruise! No way we could do the Fury Catamaran with a toddler!

Also, I noticed, Karen, that you mentioned a 150.00 soda credit through AAA. What's that about? We have AAA, too.

Thanks again, mothers!

o.k. guys, I need some advice... Should I start panicking yet? All Seasons still hasn't charged through my final payment. They keep telling me that I'm in the right pile to be called into DCL, but it just hasn't been done yet. They keep telling me probably today when I call, and if not then tomorrow. This has been the same story since Tuesday. I understand everything is back-up with the hurricane and everything, but I'm afraid of losing my ressie!!! WHat should I do? I keep checking my credit card on-line and nothing has been done yet. It's getting rather frustrating!! HELP!!!

Sherry, Jennifer and TYTY,

When disney added the free soda (coke) to the beverage stations, they offered anyone who booked through AAA a credit because the free soda mugs were part of the AAA cruise package.

If you do a search on the cruise forum you should find lots of threads pertaining to this. I believe it was implemented in June and 7-day outside staterooms (cat. 1-10?) were given 150.00 credit.

My agent did not offer this info to me when we were reviewing our contract, I told her ( thanks to these boards!) and said she would call disney to find out. Sure enough, she came back and said that was correct. Our friends agent told them it was only 100.00 and when she corrected her, she also received the 150.00.

I had my agent put this in writing in our contract as I don't trust word of mouth. Also, I assume it will show up on our stateroom account like the onboard credit does. Good Luck!

jel0511- Keep pestering them. They will get so sick of hearing from you, they'll finally put it through. ( You know, the squeaky wheel saying and all!)

Jennifer,

We are doing the Fury Catamaran in Cozumel also!! I am really looking forward to it.

Lori,

Have you tried calling DCL directly? I would call them and make sure your ressie is still there. When you go on the DCL website there appears to be plenty availability on the cruise so if worse comes to worse Allseas would have to rebook you at your original quoted price!! Let us know what happens.

We are taking our kids out of school for 2 1/2 days for this cruise. Well, we had meet the teacher last night and my DS10's teacher had me shaking in my boots!! She is very strict and expects a lot out of the kids. I haven't told her we are going yet and I am not sure when to break the news. I'm kind of scared of her reaction and my main concern is how DS will be treated by her after she finds out. Now I am not normally the type of person who is afraid to speak my mind but she just came across so strong to both DH and me. DS10 had never missed a day of school until last year when he came down with the chickenpox. I hope I haven't made a big mistake.  When I got home last night I called the airlines and switched to an earlier flight home after the cruise so that we will have more time to make up homework. Thanks for lenting me vent.

I'm happy to report that I just checked my credit card statement on-line and my final payment has FINALLY been made!!! It's for $35 less than the full amount, but I think All Seasons does that and there will be another $35 charge from them directly. YIPPEE!!! Trust me, if I had called over there this afternoon, and final payment hadn't been made yet, I was calling DCL this afternoon, before any possible Ivan stuff started happening. So, we're now all set. All Palo and spa ressies made via REAS, and Captain Marvins for Grand Cayman all set. I just need to lose 10 pounds before we board!!!

Jackie - we're taking DD out of school for the whole week, and I was nervous too. She's only in First Grade, so it's not like she's going to miss much, and her teacher told me not to sweat it. She said she'll send home a few things for her to do, but it's really not all that much. She also has the day off before we fly down (Thursday) so any homework that needs to get accomplished, I'll make sure she gets it done that day. I wouldn't worry about it, the teacher just seems as strict, because she is. My brother is a teacher, and he always tells me that it's important for both the students and parents to know that he means business. It helps him get the respect he deserves, and helps the parents understand that they also need to be part of the process. Believe it or not, some parents think that the school should be TOTALLY responsible for their children's education and really don't want to get involved. My brother teaches 5th grade, and he said that at that age, it is important to have respect. I wouldn't sweat it, and my brother wouldn't care if a child was going to miss a few days. Also, if you get any type of flack, just alradyknow your school's unexcused absense policy. That way, if she does give you any, you'll already have the district's policy behind you!! Good luck, and don't stress!!!!!

Jackie,
I've been a school psychologist for the past ten years, and IMHO, teachers seem to deal best with these situations if you give them plenty of notice. That way, you all can plan ahead to make sure nothing serious is missed, and maybe even work ahead a bit. I would suggest that you be very matter-of-fact about having this family trip planned, but you also recognize this importance of school...so you and teacher can "work together" to ensure that DS's work gets done in a timely manner... And then keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best!

My DH also works for the schools, and the funny thing is that we are going through the same thing with our supervisors to get that week off!!! And I'm gonna use the same line that I suggested that you try with the teacher! ;)

Let's all keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best!

YIPPEE!! Just booked my Castaway Cay excursion!!! We're going to be doing the Jet Ski tour at 9:45!!! So, now I'm all set. Butterfly Farm in Key West (DD 6 insisted on this), Captain Marvin's half day snorkle in Grand Cayman, Paradise Beach in Cozumel, and now the Jet Ski Tour on Castaway Cay!!! YIPPEE!!! I can't wait!! I'm also moving my Palo ressie from Cozumel night to Grand Cayman night, have a call into Debbie. I don't want to miss the new Pirate menu!! Also, DH said he might want to venture into Cozumel for dinner at Carlos and Charlies, so this way we have both options open!!!

Lori, Great minds think alike! I booked our Palo ressie on Grand Cayman night also, so that we had the option to go into town on Cozumel night. I figured it was the only port we would be in at night so we might as well take advantage of that. I originally booked my Palo ressie at 7:00, but I have called Debbie twice now and left a message that I wanted it changed to 7:30 so that we can still go to the 6:30 show if we want. I asked her to call me back to confirm she got the message and I still haven't heard from her. I hope she made the changes. Do they give you anything upon boarding that confirms the REAS ressies?

I sent Mrs. A (DS10 teacher) a note to inform her of our cruise. I haven't heard anything back yet, so maybe no news is good news! She gives a LOT of homework, so I know we will have a busy Sunday getting it done when we get back.

Grand Cayman was hit really hard by IVAN. I wonder if it will affect our trip. Any thoughts from our fellow cruisers?

Glad to be of help. Wasn't it great to get that extra $$? Just think of the possibilities! Not sure about the DIS meet and am wondering what port will take the place of Grand Cayman. I truly doubt they will be up and ready for us by Nov. Sending a little pixie dust their way though!

Hi fellow cruisers!

I suggested the Promenade Lounge for the rain location. I think it is a family lounge, no smoking! Of course it is not going to rain so it won't matter!! I am curious about Grand Cayman also. I bummed out because that was the port I was most looking forward to. I just hope they don't replace it with Nassau! Have a nice weekend.

Fellow Cruisers,

How is everybody doing? I felt like this thread needed bumped back up to page one. Is anyone nervous about these horrible hurricanes? I hope the hurricane gods get it out of their system before November. I feel awful for the people in Florida, Haiti, Grenada and Grand Cayman. My aunt lost her home in Ft. Pierce, she and my Uncle are fine though.

On an upbeat note my counter is about to be in the 30's!! Soon we will be looking for our documents. Let's post when they are received.

Jackie,

So glad to hear that your Aunt and Uncle are OK. So sorry to hear about their home.

Yes, very nervous about these hurricanes! I just feel horrible for everyone involved and those cruisers that are scheduled during these horrible storms. It's as if they will never end.

What is everybodies thoughts on Grand Cayman? Sounds like there is a possibility of going to Costa Maya instead? Me and the kids were looking forward to swimming with the Stingrays.

We'll be happy either way, this will be our very first cruise and we're more than excited.

Our departure is approaching rapidly! My son and I were just chatting about how close it is... really, we've got Columbus Day, Halloween and then days later we head to the airport! It really made me realize that once my mother in law departs next Tuesday, I'm breaking out the suitcases and starting to pack. No sense putting summer clothes in the attic, may as well put them directly in the suitcases and be ready to go.

The hurricane season has been a brutal one, no doubt. But Paula and I have decided that no matter which ports we end up visiting, we'll just be happy to be someplace warm where they serve frozen drinks and speak with accents of any type. Heck, we'd be just as happy to stay on the boat! :) Can you tell, we are just ready to GO! I haven't been on vacation since April, and I tell you, it's wearing thin. I need a week of no work, all play....

I saw pictures of Grand Cayman on another thread and it doesn't look good at all! I also looked over the Costa Maya site and there does seem to be some snorkeling on the Island and a trip to see some ruins, but the travel time there is 1 1/2 hours to the ruins.

My kids are bummed about Grand Cayman, but who knows since they heavily depend on tourism what will happen.

Who else is staying at the Raddison on Friday Night? We should arrive there around 5 p.m. or so.

I just purchased a new digital camera, and I need to learn about it before we leave!! It's coming up fast!!

I hope we get to go to Grand Cayman. It was one of the reasons I chose the Western intinerary. If not, I guess I can say I have been to 4 different places in Mexico ! Costa Maya doesn't look all that exciting. The ruins are appealing but a 1 1/2 hour bus ride is NOT! To top it off while I was on the treadmill this morning, the weather channel was discussing how the hurricane season is past its peak but that hurricanes that develop late in the season usually develop in the Western Caribbean or the Gulf of Mexico!! Oh well just get me down to FL and on the ship and after that I will go with the flow!!

jjgarv, yes we are looking forward to the Fury Catamaran, hopefully it will be smooth sailing!! I have read on other posts that people start getting their docs anywhere from 30days to 10days before the cruise. No BROWN truck has stopped at my house yet. :(

Tomorrow we can say that we are going on a cruise NEXT MONTH!!:teeth:

We have late dinner seating. We had early dinner seating on our last cruise on the Wonder and felt a little rushed to get back from excursions, so we thought we'd give the late seating a try. Not sure which one we'll prefer in the end.

We'll be in WDW (at OKW) from Nov 2 until the morning of Nov 6 when we'll drive on over in the morning and park at the cruise terminal. Hope to be on the ship no later than 1 pm. We're in #5522 & 5524 (connecting SPH's).
I have no excursions planned yet (I know---what's the delay?? !!!). This is due to the fact that we cared for a terminally ill family member in our home up until last month and we weren't even sure we'd be able to make the cruise. Sadly, my mil passed away in August and we will miss her terribly. But now I find myself way behind in planning and trying to catch up.

I'm with Scottygirl in that Grand Caymen was probably the main reason I booked the Western. Costa Maya isn't really pulling me in at this point. Maybe I just need time to get used to it. My girls wanted to do the stingray snorkel. Do you think I should just go ahead and book this anyway---or wait for definite news whether or not we'll be going there ? Any thoughts on when they'll let us know ? Very excited to be going despite the strong possibility of missing GC :( but we all really need some quality family time so just getting away is going to be wonderful. It's been 18 months since we've been away anywhere. Looking forward to meeting some of you on Saturday 11/6 :wave2:
