Hi,
I'm a single dad who is taking my daughters 11 and 16 on our first cruise. Of course it had to be a Disney Cruise. We're from the Southern California area (stone throw from Disneyland) and everyone is excited. The girls have been concerned that they might not meet anyone. I've told them the ship will be at least half full of kids (the other half parents). We all would love to meet other cruisers.

Hi barbarac!
We should let our 7.5 year old DDs PM back and forth before the cruise. :) We are arriving the day before and staying at the Radisson, but when we return were headed to the Boardwalk! :) Our first stay there, so we are excited about that as well.

Hi Tagrel!
We've booked the st. john snorkel via catamaran and orient beach in st. marten - if you haven't been to trunk bay in usvi it's worth the trip - i wouldn't take the ferry though. we also booked the banana boat on castaway for my dh & ds - i'm not getting on that thing! i hope to have my dd in the 8 & up group since my ds will be turning 11 july 9 & she'll want to stay with him. I'm sure she'd love to make more friends - what's your daughter's name we'll send her a pm this weekend - my dd is Alyssa. Talk to you soon.

I am so excited, but my DH is not excited at all. I hope he gets into it as we get closer. My DD (15) is looking forward to the end of school first. She'll get excited after June 23. Should we start a check-in thread? There only seems to be a few of us on the boards leaving on July 10. Are there any other 14 - 17 year olds? I only see two 16 year olds cruising with us. Maybe some of the teens can chat and get to know one another before we leave.
No docs yet - I can't wait!

Hi Judy!!
It doesn't look like there will be a lot from these boards going!! It's sad because we all know the rules here!!(not saving pool chairs and hammocks). Maybe the ship won't be full and we'll get up-grades!!Anyway, we are very excited to meet everyone!!See you soon!

Hi Denyse,

Do you think your 16 year old neighbor would be interested in talking to my DD? It would be nice if they met before we leave.
See you next month,

Hi Denyse,
I sent you a pm with my dd's e-mail. Thanks!
I haven't made ressies for any shore excursions yet. I don't know which ones to take. On other cruise lines, we booked excursions on board. Will that be a problem on DCL? I have to talk to my dh & dd to see what they are interested in doing.

hi everyone! we're on the july 10th cruise also. i've been so busy checking out all the other boards i forgot to check in on the cruise meet board, naughty naughty. we are all soooooo excited and counting down the days. this will be my oldest daughter's first cruise (she's 25) and our 7th cruise. i've booked us on the golden eagle cataraman in st martins and we're doing the st john trunk bay beach and snorkle. anyone doing the early dinning?? also this is our first time in a cat. 8, usually we're in cat 11. can't imagine having a porthole and daylight to boot.

Hi Tigger53,
I'm happy to find more July 10 cruisers on these boards! Do you have any other children? My dd is 15 and is looking for teens to hang out with.
This is our 5th cruise, but our first Disney cruise and we are in cat. 8 also. We have late seating for dinner though. I haven't booked any excursions yet. I was looking at the golden eagle catamaran also, but have to see if my dh is interested. He loves sailing, so I expect to book it. I hope it's not too late. Have you been on the Eastern cruise before?

06-05-2004, 11:09 AM
Hi everyone!!
Judy- I think if you want to do a "popular" excursion, you should book it now! We booked the dolphin swim at 8:30 on the 60th day and when my neighbor tried at 11:00, they said they were booked! You can always try to do a direct booking. We are probably going to do Saphire beach on St.Thomas on our own.
Tigger53- We also have early seating. Our neighbors do too. Anyone else have early?
Where and when should we meet? The life boat drill is at 4pm. and the sail away party starts between 4:30 or 4:45. I know my dd's will probably want to swim a little after lunch. I'm sure we all want to get to our rooms to unpack before the drill. How about either before the drill at 3:30 or after/during the sail away party? I've never been on the cruise, so I don't really know how hectic it is during these times! Just let me know where and when!!
Denyse
barbarac
06-05-2004, 05:03 PM
We've requested the early seating! And I also booked our excursions on the 60th day - wanted to make sure I got exactly what I wanted - if the ship is full, it's better to make them ahead of time - who wants to wait in line when we finally get on the ship! There are some things, of course, you can't book ahead of time like reservations in Palo's etc.
The earlier we board the more time we'll have for lunch, swim, etc. before the drill, but there's no definite time when the ship will be ready. It's very very crowded at the pool at the sail away party. Maybe we can meet at lunch!
Talk to everyone soon!

judy, the golden eagle is a great excursion to go on. we did it last summer and enjoyed it very much. this is our third eastern cruise. nysie, are you from cape may??? we could meet sometime after the lifeboat drill in the prominod lounge. its usually empty and its a good location, easy to find, deck 3 aft to mid ship. :wave2:

06-06-2004, 12:55 AM
Tigger53 - Thanks for the info. My dh finally looked at the excursions and is interested in the 12 Metre Regatta in St. Maarten. My dd (15) and I have no interest in that at all. She would like to try the Dolphin Encounter, but I think it's much too late to book that. Denyse mentioned that her neighbor tried to book it and it was full. I wish my dh & dd would have helped me plan this trip months ago, but they never think about vacations in advance. I always make all the plans. Are there any other excursions that you would reccomend? Have you done the beach day at Orient Bay? What about on St. Thomas? What excursions have you done?
I think it would be great to meet after the drill. What does everyone else think?

If you haven't been to St. John's Trunk Bay it's worth the trip - it's one of the most beautiful beaches in the carribean! we're going on the 5 star snorkel trip. Also we're going on the Orient Beach trip in St. Martin. If you like to shop, St. Thomas is the place to go.
Looking forward to meeting everyone,
Talk to you soon,

Hi Tigger53 ! I'm from Cherry Hill. Where in PA are you from? I've heard great things about the Gold Eagle! Maybe next time we will do that. The kids really want to swim with the dolphins. My neighbor booked the St. John snorkel. I've heard that was nice too, but sometimes they go to St. James Island because of rough seas. We are still debating that one. The dolphin swim is pretty expensive, so I don't know. Anyway, no matter what we do, we'll be in paradise!! :sunny:
tigger53
06-06-2004, 09:02 PM
nysie, we're just outside of phila. i think the 5 star snorkle to st john's is the one that changes over to st james island if they feel so inclined. the one we're going on is the st john beach and snorkle, this way we get to go on the beach in st john as well as snorkle, i believe the 5 star snorkle just stays out on the water. the golden eagle is fantastic, great fun and very lively. the scenery is wonderfull also. i wouldn't want to miss out on the horn either, it gives me chills every time. maybe we could all meet just after the ship sets sail. of course there's two sea days in a row where we could plan for something after we all get settled in, however a brief meet and greet wouldn't take too long and we could all plan accordingly after that initial meeting.

06-07-2004, 04:30 PM
I finally booked a few excursions. Denyse, you were right, the Dolphin swim is sold out so I booked Orient Bay for dd & myself. DH is doing the 12 Metre Regatta. He loves to sail. In St. Thomas, dd & dh are taking the Kayak Marine Tour and I'm taking the St. John Island Tour. Is anyone else taking that tour? I wanted to find something to do while they went on the kayaks. They are 2 person kayaks so I thought they could have some father - daughter time.
I'm looking forward to meeting all of you. See you after the drill.

Judy-Are you still interested in the dolphin swim? They may have cancellations 2 days before sailing! We are probably going to do some kind of beach thing on St. Thomas. Do you want to meet after the lifeboat drill, but before the sail away party? Jenna told me she has been e-mailing Amy!! See you soon!!

Hi Denyse,
Amy would really love to do the dolphin trip. I promised her I'd call again. I did book the beach day in the meantime.
The meeting time is perfect. After we put our lifejackets way, we'll go to the promenade lounge. We can't wait! Even dh is excited now that he's booked on the 12 metre regatta.
Amy was so happy to hear from Jenna - thanks! Maybe they'll get to know each other a bit before we leave. She is not crazy about travelling without my ds (20). He's staying at school in the Chicago area for the summer, so he won't be joining us.
See you next month!

Hi All- Well, with a month to go, my dd fractured her wrist!! The good news is that it is a cast that can get wet, and the Dr. said it would be off before we leave!!:Pinkbounc I was sooo afraid that she wouldn't be able to do anything on the cruise!! We are all going to take it easy from now, until we leave!! See you soon!!

Sorry to hear the bad news. I hope she's ok. Luckily it will be off in time, but it's so hot to be in a cast. Amy broke her wrist one summer and it was hard not to swim since she was on the swim team. She broke it doing the backstroke during practice. How did your dd break hers?
Good luck!

Hi Judy, Well Mackenzie was hula hooping and tripped. She put her hand out to break her fall. I always tell them to put their hands out so that they don't get a neck injury. So the fractured wrist is better than a neck injury any day!! Amy broke her's doing the back stroke! Did she hit the end of the pool? Ouch!! Did you get your docs yet? We're still waiting!! Bye!

Hi Denyse - Yes, Amy broke her wrist hitting the end of the pool. They didn't have the flags up yet and there was no spotter. It was very painful. You're right, a wrist injury is much better than a neck injury! Poor Mackenzie, is she in a lot of pain?:(
I haven't gotten any docs yet either. I can't wait! That will make it seem so much closer.

Hello all!
I'm a single mom. Me and my 7-year-old daughter, Alana, will be cruising with y'all. We're lookin WAY forward to it dudes and dudesses! (I just found out I was most like Crush from Finding Nemo)
I noticed that there are other who have 7 year olds and we're going to try and PM or e-mail each other a bit before the trip...I'm sure my daughter would love to do so as well! Let me know if there's other 6-8 year olds out there who'd like to swap notes, pics, etc. with her.
Shore Excursions - St Thomas
Is someone using Godfrey for the day at St. Thomas yet? I've heard RAVE reviews about that guy. He's at www.godfreytourvi.com We're probably going on the Doubloon. There's only going to be an hour for snorkeling tho. *pout* I'd rather snorkel somewhere lovely for half the day tho...so I'm trying to find someone to take us to the best snorkeling area(s), rent equipment to us, and feed us. Anyone have suggestions? Maybe we could even get a group together and save some $$. We were also thinking about taking the Atlantis trip before getting on the Doubloon, but I guess I've got to make my own reservations on the Atlantis to do that.
Shore Excursions - St Maarten
We wanted to go to Pinel Island but were too late so we're gonna hang at the "most beautiful beach in the world" for the day (Orient Bay).
Shore Excursions - Castaway
We were able to pre-rent snorkel gear for Castaway Cay this trip. Nice. Just call yer travel agent.
Obsessing over it,
Pam

Mackenzie thinks she will get it off then, but I told her probable in 3 wks! I need a vacation!!!!! Chelsea's b-day is today, and tomorrow I will have 13 girls for a sleepover!! Hi Tigger53:
We're going on the beach snorkel too! i had first booked the 5 star but changed my mind when i realized they were basically staying on the catamaran and had to take a dingy to the beach. so we'll be taking the ferry from Red Hook with everyone else. i think this is a safer bet for me since i've been known to get sick on catamaran's!!
See everyone real real soon!!!

We are going to take a taxi to Mountain top to see the view (highest point) at St. Thomas, paradise tram way (next to the ship in port), Black Beards castle, 99 steps and of course SHOP. Taxi's will make this cheaper than a shore excursions and be able to squeeze in more. We will also have lunch somewhere with island atmosphere. I have been researching and have been here before on another cruise. Oh, you have got to have your picture taken with the "Donkey". You will know him when you see him. Last time all you have to do was make a donation for the polaroid snap shot.
St. Martin.....probably going to take a water taxi at the port and walk around and get the local flavor. Find a French Pastry shop, the Belgian Chocolate shop, Guavaberry store, wine Factory, a Open Air Market in Marigot and I have read a lot about Great Bay Beach....chairs/umbrella/Waiter-drinks/water trampoline. I thought the girls would love trying this out.
Have you cruised before? My daughter and I love cruising. We are meeting another family here that we met 2 years ago on the Magic. We have adjoining rooms. They are from Michigan. Magic happens.
Pam Floyd
06-16-2004, 11:43 AM
Alana and I cruised on the Wonder in January of 2001.
Is the "Donkey" near the port? I hope so, cuz we're probably gonna do the Daysail deal. I like the idea of only 6 passengers - no crowds - and that they sound like they REALLY take good care of ya.
We're going to the beach rendezvous on St. Maarten, fer sure. The beach looks absolutely beautiful. I'm not much into shoppin or tourin the town(s)...I'd rather be in the water. :) Alana agrees.
Would you like to swap photos so we know who to look for? If so, let me know via PM and I'll send my email address to you.
Looking forward to the Magic!

Hi everyone!
For those of you who are new to this thread, we are having a Dis meet in the promenade lounge after the lifeboat drill and before the sailaway party. We hope you can join us. There are a few of us on this thread planning to meet. It would be great if everyone can be there.
I am traveling with my dh and my dd (15). Amy has been chatting with some of the teens from the July 10 cruise. She would love to talk to the rest of your dd & ds's. PM me with their e-mail or chat names and she'll get in touch with them. Since she is cruising alone with us, she hopes to meet and hang out with other teens.
This is our fifth cruise, but our first on DCL. Amy has cruised with us once before. I've enjoyed talking with everyone prior to our embarkation. I've learned so much from these boards, but I would love any additional tips from all you DCL veterans.
Amy and I wil be on the Orient Bay excursion in St. Maarten. She really wanted to do the dolphin encounter, but it was all booked. My dh is doing the 12 metre regatta. He loves to sail.
In St. Thomas, I am taking the excursion to St. John. My dh & dd are doing the kayak adventure. Hopefully some of you will be on the trip to St. John. I didn't want to take the excursion alone, but I really wanted to see St. John. I am not into kayaking!:boat:
I am looking forward to meeting everyone.
Denyse, I'm glad Mackenzie is doing well and will be "castless" by the cruise. Will any of Chelsea's friends be with her in her new school? It's always tough to move on to a new school, especially without all your friends. Amy doesn't finish school until Tuesday, she can't wait! She's jealous of your kids! She has enjoyed chatting with Jenna and is looking forward to meeting her. Thanks for passing along her e-mail address. Have fun at your Disney night - now I'm jealous!!!
Princessof3boys, is Bryson your 14 year old ds? If so, Amy has enjoyed chatting with him also.
Talk to you all soon.

Judy yes Bryson is ours :) he has enjoyed talking to Amy also!
I also tried to Book the Dolphin encounter but it was still booked,
I did the See & Sea Island Tour, then the 5 star snorkel & Beach in St. John. Has anyone done these before? With our age gaps it is hard to plan for everyone. We are getting excited but now the panic sets in for getting everyone and thing ready. But the 100 degree Texas heat make one ready for a beach.

That is when the entire school, k-4 and staff, line the halls, and the 5th graders walk from their wing to the front and everyone claps for them and wishes them well in middle school! It was so bittersweet. Ofcourse, all the girls were in tears and the boys were hi- 5-ing. Today we are having a 5th grade only party in our delelopment, then they can all have fun 1 more time together! I can't wait for vacation!!Do the docs come in the regular mail, or fed ex/ups?
I would still check on the dolphin swim. It seems like people book a lot of excursions, then decide, and cancel.
Don't forget to bring bubbles for the sail away!!
princessof3boys- what is your 11 yr.old's e-mail? My dd Chelsea is 11 and has been chatting with barbarac's son.Send me a pm and they can chat too!!

I still have no docs!:( :( I didn't have a chance to call today, but I guess the CT countryside is as difficult to reach as Southern CA!
I've actually been working on changing my return flight and rental car. I got a call from Delta Song - have any of you tried this new airline? I'm a bit concerned about it. They called at 11:45 PM last night with a recorded message that my flight has been changed to 8:30 PM on the 17th. (That was annoying!!) That won't get us home until well after midnight and Amy has to be at music camp all packed by noon on Sunday. I thought I would do a load of laundry on the ship, but if I don't get a chance, it will be difficult to take care of it at home on Sunday morning. Anyway, I finally got the flight changed to 5:40, which is more realistic.:) Now we have to find something to do all day. At least we have a rental car. Do any of you "dcl veterans" have any suggestions for us? I figure we have about 6 - 7 hours to hang around. That's not enough time to go to Disney World.:( Any ideas?
Thanks,

jrose............you could go to Downtown Disney, lots of things to do. They also have a movie theater there. Or, check out the disney outlet stores at Belz and Premier. Or find a Laundromat instead of using precious Cruise time. It would be faster and probably cheaper. There are few machines on board and usually busy. Go to one of the putt putt golf parks.

Thanks mouseisinmyhouse, you gave me some great ideas. I forgot about Downtown Disney. How far is it from DCL? I also forgot how far it is to the airport from Downtown Disney. Will I have enough time? If I decide to go to a laundromat, do you know of one in an area with activities for dd & dh? They would drive me crazy! Is there one in Downtown Disney? That would be convenient. For all the times I've been there, I never looked for a laundromat. We stay at OKW since we are DVC members. I usually do my laundry in the room. I will miss that. It was so easy to come home with clean clothes!::yes::

DTD is off of I-4. Birnbaum's book says EXIT 67 and 68. I don't know of a laundry there. As you get closer to lots of shops/strip malls I would watch for a Laundromat. One option, go ahead and have her bag packed at home (before) you leave. Or.....there is a laundry service on the ship. Fill out a laundry slip and the Room Steward will take the bag and have it by the next day. I have used it for a few items that had gotten a stain. Cost is more than doing it yourself, but time is money or in our case Time is memories.

Just had another idea................When you check in at the Cruise Terminal, aske one of the people at the check-in counter. They may know of a local laundromat.
Nysie
06-20-2004, 09:16 PM
Maybe you can use one of the laundymats at one of the Disney hotels-Carribean beach and the fanily could hang out there, or at DTD. Or maybe Shirley from the Perfect gift may know of a laundry place in Cocoa Beach! It's about 1:40hr from port canaveral to Disney and about 40 mins from Disney to airport.

What are ya'll wearing for the formal night and the semi formal night? The Boys want to wear tuxes so I have that covered but what about semi?
Has everyone gotten there Docs?

Susan - Thanks for letting Amy know about Bryson, she wondered why she hadn't heard from him.
I'm not sure what I'm wearing on formal or semi-formal night yet. I have a few options. I could buy something new, but I have quite a few barely worn dresses. I guess I should decide soon! Amy has some beautiful semi-formal dresses that she wore only once to school dances that she plans to bring. My dh does not plan to wear a tux. He gave his tux to my son when it got too tight and he never bought another one. I don't expect him to rent one. Will he be the only non-tux wearing guy on these boards? Let me know what the rest of the guys plan to wear. On our last cruise to Bermuda on Celebrity, fewer than half the men wore tuxes. I may have a hard time convincing him to rent.
I still have no docs! I expected to find them when I got home today. I suppose I should call to find out when they are being mailed. I just don't get to it early enough to call during office hours. Am I the only one who hasn't received docs?

I'm wearing a black suit, white shirt and black and white tie to the formal night. My daughters are wearing coordinating black and white dresses.
On the semi-formal evening I'll probably wear the same black suit but with a more colorful shirt and tie. I don't have many reasons to wear a tux any longer and would rather spend the money on the vacation instead.
I have been to enough black tie evenings to know that a black suit done tastefully is just as impressive as a tux.
See ya on the boat!!!

There's no way my dh will be wearing a tux - he doesn't have one and we won't be renting one - he wears suits everyday to work - one of those will do just fine. I just bought my ds a jacket and dress pants for my dd's communion - he'll wear that both nights - i have a tie for him for formal night. I'll probably be wearing the usual black dress!
See everyone soon!!!!

I received my docs!!!:cool1: I just got home and found them on my deck. It was a great pick-me-up. I had a lousy day. My car was rear ended on my way home to help my son, whose car battery died. Now my back aches. I hope it feels better by the time we leave. I wasn't hit at a high speed because we were stuck in traffic, but I have a sedan that was hit by a large SUV. At least the docs made me feel better. ::yes::
When will we find out our dining rotation? I thought that info would be included with the docs. It would be nice to know for packing since the booklet mentions that men need a jacket in Lumiere's. If the Captain's Gala falls on the night we are in Lumiere's, it will save bringing one jacket for my dh.

Hi Denyse,
I'm fine, but my back is still sore. I think it's a good excuse for a massage! I think I'll book one when I get on board!!::yes::
My car is fine also. I just have a few scratches. I was stuck in traffic and probably wouldn't have felt much at all if the woman didn't have a large SUV. My foot was also on the brake and I didn't see her coming.
Anyway, I just spent a few hours trying on outfits that I have in my closet. I actually have quite a few that I only wore once or twice for different events, many just this year, so I'm not sue I need to buy anything. Amy should be all set too. She hates to shop, so luckily she has a few sundresses that we bought to go to Jamaica last year that she never wore. With those and her semi-formal/formal dresses that she only wore once, we are in good shape. We did buy her 4 new bathing suits and a number of shorts and tops in the last few weeks, so I am not saving all that much money!! :smooth:
I've shopped quite a bit for myself as well, but I'm sure I'll be back in the mall once or twice before we leave.:p
Amy and I are getting so excited. Even my dh seems excited, which is unusual for him. He didn't want to take a cruise in the first place, so I hope he has a great time.

Hi Judy, I'm glad you are ok, although your back will take some time to heal. Is it the lower or upper? I bet a massage would help-just let them know where it hurts so they don't rub too hard there! We went out tonight looking for flat casual sandals to wear on the islands! Don't forget your "tropicali" wear!! We have stuff from last year's visit to the Polynesion. We made 2 copies of our passports, one for home and the other to bring with our passport incase out passports get lost or stollen. Still have to get the little things like sun lotion, sea sick meds, and other toiletries! I better make a list! See you soon!!

Denyse - It's my lower back. I actually have a place I've been to that does therapeutic massages. I may visit before the trip. Good idea about the passports. I made copies for my son when he went to Europe, but I never made copies for the rest of us. I also need to make a list. I've been picking up items that I've seen reccomended on these boards. Hey all!
Alana will be wearing a pink flowery sundress on formal night and I'll be wearing a purple gown - no black for us! hee hee.
I understand the back pain problem...my back went out about a week and a half ago (lower) and then again yesterday. It makes me kinda panicky to think it may not heal before the cruise!
My brother (who deals with lower back pain regularly) told me to ice it for 20 minutes up to 5 times a day, don't do anything that aggravates it (but don't lie in bed all day either!), stretch your leg muscles - calves, thighs - 3 reps 20 seconds each and do situps, if you can. This regimen has been helping me out.

We're sailing for the first time on the Magic July 10-17. There are 11 adults and 11 kids. The "kids" range in age from 1-21. We're from all over the U.S. Las Vegas, Atlanta, San Francisco, Virginia, and St. Louis.
We're a little worried about the 17 and 19 year old boys. Is there going to be enough for them to do? I haven't really seen their age group addressed. Too old for kid stuff, too young for adult stuff. Any suggestions?
How is everyone getting from the airport to the ship?

Hi Denyse - I've also been having computer problems. I wrote reply about two hours ago that never went through. I'll tell Amy about Jenna's comp. problems. I'm feeling better tonight, thanks for asking. This morning, I wasn't so sure I was over this bug.
I forgot all about buying the bubbles, thanks for reminding me. Amy and I went to the mall this afternoon for a "few" things. We came home with much more than I expected! Amy got more clothes, makeup and shoes. I'm still looking. I also bought the Bath & Body room deodorizer that someone mentioned on aother thread. It was on sale for $3 and is very concentrated so you only need one spray. It's also very small so it won't take up much packing space. We are getting so excited!:bounce:
I hope to be at the port at noon if my dh doesn't mind waiting in line. He avoids lines except at WDW.:hyper: We are flying in the night before and staying near the airport. We don't land until 10:30 PM, so we thought it would be best to stay near the airport and leave in the morning. We have a rental car for one day to drive to the port from the hotel.
Amy sent her picture to Jenna, so maybe she'll recognize us. :smooth:
Debbie & ramadio, we are having a DisMeet in the Promenade Lounge after the lifeboat drill and before the sail away party. Please feel free to join us.

Hi All,
Just had a friend of mine come back from the Magic last week doing the Western and she said to be on the lookout for a question they ask you when boarding. You are asked if you or anyone on your sailing party had been sick in the last 72 hours. If you answered yes, they immediately either refunded you or rescheduled your vacation.
Keep yourself and the kids healthy.
Looking forward to the Dismeet after the drill.
See you all there..........

Judy -
Alana and I are signed up for the Orient Beach trip. I've been thinking about canceling it tho - because, from what I've read, it sounds like doing it on our own will be WAY cheaper. Basically, we're getting a bus ride, lunch and chair for $75 (for me and Alana). A bit steep, don't you agree? Would you like to join my daughter and I on our own? I still don't know if I'm going to cancel the trip or not. I guess I've got another couple days to decide.
