This question isn't actually for Orlando, but another city where I am renting a car.

My question is: I was playing around online, trying different contact ID's and so on, with National. I ended up with 2 reservations: both with the same car rental rate, but the taxes are different!

One gives these fees:
Surcharges:
CUSTOMER FACILITY FEE3.50USD/RNTL 3.50
CONCESSION RECOUP FEE 11.11 PCT 21.66
PIMA COUNTY SURCHARGE 3.50 USD 3.50
ARIZONA SURCHARGE 5 PCT 9.83
Taxes:
STATE TAX (5.60%) 11.01

Total Estimate 224.46

The other gives these fees:
Surcharges:
CUSTOMER FACILITY FEE3.50USD/RNTL 3.50
PIMA COUNTY SURCHARGE 3.50 USD 3.50
ARIZONA SURCHARGE 5 PCT 8.75
Taxes:
STATE TAX (5.60%) 9.80

Total Estimate 200.51

Does this make any sense? Otherwise, the reservations are the same.

thanks

Just an FYI - the concession fee is not listed on the 2nd ressie - are you sure that you are picking up at the same spot - this is the extra amount that you pay for the cars picked up at the airport on-site location.

If you take a shuttle off-site - you wouldn't have to pay a concession fee.

I'd make sure that I checked and double checked the pick up location!!

For our Orlando trip, using the priceless vacation contract ID took away the concession recovery charge also - both ressies were with national, emerald reserve, but one is $14.95 cheaper. No idea why.

I booked from the priceless vacations website, too, using their contract ID. Maybe that's it. I did double check, and both my ressies are the same, except for that concession fee. Taking off the concession fee also reduces the taxes. For my ressie, it's a little over 10%....yeah!

The old tax game. If you pick a car up at an airport, you are going to get hit with one heck of a tax. You don't live in the city, so they are going to add taxes. you don't live there so you are not a voter.

Also, when I go to Disney I am dropped off at the resort by a relative. I then rent a car to go home one way.

If you were to fly into Orlando and pick-up the car you will be charged a higher tax (actually it's two taxes) than if you walked in off the street to pick up a car. They have to know you did not fly in.

I live in the Chicago area. The rental company I use feeds out its cars to all its locations in the area. If I pick up the car at O'hare or Midway airports, the tax is 18%. Don't know about any other Chicago proper locations. If I pick up the car in Du Page county it is 6%.
