I just started doing the Weight Watcher program at home & in a week, I lost 8 lbs. Tonight I start the Curves program but I'm very nervous about that. I had gone on Tuesday evening & signed up & asked the instructor if I could try some of the machines since I wanted to be sure I could actually "do" the exercises. I was quite embarrassed when I couldn't get off of one unassisted!! (The one where you put your legs against tension & push real hard?) At first I thought I was at the Gyn's office!! :teeth: But it was quite embarrassing that I couldn't get off it on my own! I'm hoping that tonight I'll be able to manuver better but I'm not holding my breath!!
I've joined Curves to help me along with working out depression. I'll be forced to leave my house (which I'm unable to do without anxiety attacks.) Hopefully it will also help me lose weight a little quicker too. I am feeling very nervous & anxious about going tonight so this is really a big step for me.
If you have any words of encouragement over this Curves program, please share them with me!
Wish me luck! :wave2:

Mishetta,
I am a newbie here at the Wish boards, but I can totally relate to your anxiety about working out. I did not join curves, but I did visit one once to try it out. I had the same problem getting off one of the machines. So, don't feel bad. ;)
I actually started my weight loss program over a year ago. I weighed 340 and am now down to 210. So, get out there and exercise!!! I promise you that after a couple of weeks you will feel so great. Your confidence will improve and you may even begin to enjoy it.
And congrats on losing 8 pounds. You are off to a tremendous start! Post tomorrow and let us know how it went tonight at Curves.

Just think how good you'll feel in a week or so when you are hopping on and off the machines! The tougher the battle the sweeter the victory. I just started walking on a treadmill at home and it feels really good! Keep up the good work!

Rose!!! Hello, my friend. I'm so glad to see you here. Do you think one of these days I could drive up and visit Curves with you? Would they allow that?
Would you do me a favor and post to our WISH Challenge thread too? I use this thread to compose our member roster and if you don't post there I might leave you out. I would hate for that to happen.
You will find the challenge thread right HERE (http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=437854)
You're going to love WISH, sweetie. Everyone is so nice and we're all going to help you reach goal. Just wait and see :)
You can do this Curves stuff, I'm sure of it. Just take it one day at a time.

Mishetta, Welcome to WISH!!! :Pinkbounc
I am pretty friendly with one of the instructors at my local Curves. We were talking about the machines. I asked her why do some people do stretches on when them come to that machine (the one you mentioned) She said that one and the other one where you have to stand and lift the heavy bar are very hard to do. So I would not worry about it. Just do the best that you can and will improve. Best of luck to you on WW and Curves. I do both and love them both! :Pinkbounc

Way to go Mishetta!!! You're gonna start feeling better soon, I can feel it! ;)
I went to Curves one day last week as a visitor with my SIL, who's a member and, I can say that some of the machines are awkward at first, getting on and off but, it's only because they're moving kinda fast at those "change" moments. I'm sure once you've done a circuit or two, you'll be fine. Maybe, if you're really concerned, you could ask that no one be placed to start RIGHT after you, giving you at least one station of space between people.
Congratulations on your new beginning and, WELCOME!
Onward and downward! :sunny:

Wow!! What an encouraging response I received! I'm so grateful!
Well, I did it, I went to my first Curves session last night where the instructor follows you around the room & shows you how to work the equipment. It was quite interesting. First off, I felt very ashamed since there was no one quite as large as me. But once I started learning the machines, I didn't think about that anymore. My biggest problem was getting off of them in a timely manner so luckily, no one was right behind me. :o Also, by the time I was using the equipment the correct way with the instructor showing me & then me trying it, I would only get 2 repitions done before I'd have to switch off! But that turned out to be a good thing because I'm going from ZERO exercise to something so I guess it's best to start off slowly.
During the time I was there, someone who was much larger than me walked in & started exercising & that made me feel much better & then I felt more motivated. I was wishing I had her determination as I saw her also struggle with the machines. She was exercising with a smile on her face! Talk about making someone feel motivated!! She helped me in ways that she will never ever know! God Bless her.
Anyway, I did it & I felt pretty good when I left there & I felt GREAT this morning!! I got up 15 minutes earlier than usual & I already seem to have more energy!!
For those that want to start exercising & are intimidated of gyms, this is a very low keyed place with very supportive people (of all shapes & sizes) & the best part is that if you don't like a machine, you know you're only on it for 30 seconds!! (Of course 30 seconds seems like a long time when you're on something that is harder to do!) It just seems like a great place to ease into exercising & then you can build up the speed as you get comfortable with the equipment.
Thanks again for your support...keep it coming....I'll need it!! :)

SUPPORT? you have come to the right place, these WISHERS have made me see the light and have encouraged me beyond belief,,,,,,,,, this is my HOME PAGE! lol
about Curves, i was a member for a year and I loved it!
Nothing to be ashamed at there I mean it. I know they vary but I was so comfortable at my curves, I would go wearing whatever and there were days I just didnt get a good workout whatever the case, Everyone there seemed to be just like me.
IF by some chance, you felt uncomfortable because of a particular person or whatever, that is definitly not typical at Curves, then try another. I have "travled" gone to other curves when i was away from home and they were all very much the same, a very comforatble environment.
BY the way, the only reason i am no longer a member is cause the workout became too routine for me I actually needed more of a workout! Ill tell you though, if they had a step @ type of program, I would be ther ein a heartbeat.
good luck and dont give up youll soon see that the workout is too little for you too.

Thank you wonderful Dis-Wishers. I so appreciate the welcome & the support.
Ohmom ~ I'm doing the WW program on my own. I couldn't afford to do both WW meetings & Curves so I had to choose one. I've been on WW many, many times. Once I lost 100 lbs on it. So I know the program, I could probably teach it. But knowing it & doing it are two totally different things! :(
Now I have a big problem coming up, we may be going on vacation to Orlando leaving on Friday....oh....what to do???? I rarely can do any diet program on vacation!! I just love to eat!
(I say we "may" go on vacation because my aunt is dying & the nurses think she will be going to heaven soon. If she passes over to eternity before we go, then we'll have to cancel our plans.)
