Does anyone know if Tonga Toast at the Kona Cafe is the same as Banana-stuffed French Toast at Boatwright's? If not, what is the difference and which do you prefer?

Thanks Allison, please do let us know what you think. The Tonga toast sounds so good but lately I've read reviews where people think it is almost too sweet.

I've never been to Boatwright's but, I'd assume that they're the same thing.
The original "Banana Stuffed French Toast" was served at the Tangaroa Terrace (Polynesian) in the late 70s/early 80s.....maybe even the Coral Isle Cafe before that (not sure about that one, but I know I ate it @ TT). Then, when the Coral Isle Cafe became Kona Cafe, they renamed it "Tonga Toast" (I guess in keeping with the theme of the resort).

I have had both, it has been about 2 years now, but if i remember right they were pretty much the same. They are sweet and to me a very big portion, but delicious, i cannot wait to go back for more.

I had the Tonga Toast two weeks ago. I love banana but I thought that the toast was so greasy I could not even taste the banana. I was really looking forward to it, but I have to say that I was really disappointed. My husband eats anything and he would not eat it. I normally love fried food but this was so greasy that there was a puddle of grease on the plate. Maybe we were just unlucky b/c I have heard so many that love it.

Tonga Toast used to be my favorite breakfast on site until
I tasted the banana stuffed toast at Boatwrights. Boatwrights
is NOT as sweet and served with strawberries, to cut the sweetness. Now, at Kona, I enjoy the eggs benedict instead.
The Tonga Toast is just too sweet for me (probably my age!)

I have never had the Tonga Toast, but I have had the Banana-Stuffed French Toast. It was pretty good. It was definitely sweet and a slight bit greasy. I couldn't eat a lot of it because it was way too much for me. I knew I would be going to the parks all day and didn't want that heavy, greasy feeling in my stomach all day. Thanks for all the replies! I was just curious to see if anyone knew the differences. If the Tonga Toast is even similar, I will probably skip it and go for something else. I would like to try the breakfast lasagna at CP sometime. There was a picture and recipe in my Disney Magazine and it looks really good! Unfortunately, we will be doing CP for lunch and not breakfast this May.

Tonga Toast was served by that name at Coral Isle Cafe long before Kona Cafe came along. I had it there in 1992. And yes Tonga Toast is essentially banana-stuffed French toas.

They also have banana stuffed french toast at the AKL (got it from room service one morning) and it was DELICIOUS, esp. with a nice big glass of frunch.
