We are now going to drive to WDW from Michigan, and we planned on stopping about midway and wondered where is a good stopping point.

Also, I received a trip tik from AAA which would take us along the east coast (through VA, SC etc.) to get to WDW and I wondered if taking I-75 easier?

How long does it usually take driving from Michigan?

Thanks (any advice and tips would be helpful, never driven this route before)

Hi there!!

We've driven twice from MI and find that it's about 20-22 hours drive time door to door from here in GR.

Both times we've driven it has always been I-75. My guess is that it would be easier simply because it's pretty much a straight shot-- Get on I-175 to the Floirda Toll Road to I-4. Going the I-95 route might take a while longer, I would think.

Our stop both times has been on I-75 just north of Macon, GA-- about 13 hours into the drive. It works for us simply because it gets the bulk of the driving out of the way the first day, gets you past Atlanta outside of rush hour and we manage to arrive at WDW by about 1pm. I believe our exit is 169, but I could be wrong. There is a Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, several restaurants, etc. We've stayed at the Hampton and found it a good spot to spend a night. Both times on our return we've decided to go straight through (never again), so I can't comment on where to stop on your return.

If you have any other questions, let me know!
Hope this helps!

I think it depends on where you are leaving from in Michigan. Someone who leaves from the metro Detroit area probably wouldn't stop "halfway" the same as someone from Sault Ste. Marie.

I live in Macomb and last year when we drove we stopped in Atlanta, Georgia and then on the way back we stopped in Tennessee!:wave2:

Last time we drove from Michigan-Metro Detroit area, we stayed in McDounough, GA half way between Atlanta and Macon. Very nice little town.

Thanks for all the response.

We will be leaving from Rochester Hills, so we have kind of estimated about 21 hours.

Solotraveler,

Thanks for all the details. DH thinks we could drive straight thru, but I don't think so.

It'll definitely be an adventure.

Thanks again.:D

I am in Northern Indiana and we did this a few years ago. Striaght down 75 and we did drive it straight through. It wasn't bad there was 3 of us that took turn and at least one other person to be awake with us. When one got tired the other slept and we just took turns till we got there. It was early in the morning about 5 am so we took a little nap and then headed out. It worked out great. The ride hom on the other hand no I would suggest booking in advance to stop somewhere on the way home. If I can help you with anything else I would be happy to do what I can.

Be sure you get the book "Along I-75" by Dave Hunter before you go. It's great! You can follow along your drive, it gives listings of all hotels, gas, restaurants at each exit, and other interesting data. A must have for driving along 75!
