:boat: Is anyone scheduled to cruise on June 5, 200? This is our first cruise. We have a 10 year old son & 7 year old daughter. We are so excited but a little nervous not knowing what to expect. We have been assigned to stateroom 7620. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I am a little nervous about getting seasick.

My family (1brother, 2 sisters, mom, dad, me, my husband and my 2 kids-boy and girl) have been on one Disney cruise (Wonder 4-day) together and are going the wk you are on the Magic for the 7-day.
I am new to these boards, so bear w/me.
We didn't get seasick. My mom got a little queasy one night when they were in bed and we hit some rough storms. The only thing I noticed was the closet doors slowly rolling open and then rolling shut.
In fact, in order to prevent seasickness, my mom bought these patches from her dr and put them on my 2 younger sisters, they acted like they were 1/2 asleep, drugged (eyes puffy and red) and grumpy almost the entire time. When we FINALLY realized the cause, we took them off and they had a WONDERful time! :)
I'm away from my papers at the moment and can't remember my staterm #, but were on the 6th floor.
We had such a fun time, we vowed to go again and are very excited! We loved the characters!
My 2 kids ages are-boy, 13 and girl, 4. Far apart, I know, not planned, but lots-a-fun!
I know you will enjoy--we will have to see if we see each other, my name is Veolette (weird sounding, but pronounced Veo-let).

Hi,
We're onboard the same week(06/05/04) and we'll be in 6006. This is my family's first cruise and my first pleasure cruise, so were all novices on a trip like this. We have a DD5 and DD7 who are very excited about their first real boat trip. :Pinkbounc
We're all WDW veterans with far too many visits to count so we're looking forward to a NEW disney experience. Mostly I just want the kids to make friends and have a blast!
See ya'll on the cruise...

We will definitely have to PM each other--my whole family(1 bro-14,2 sis-13, 16, mom and dad) is going together! We have been taking all of our vacations together since our first WDW visit in '96.

I don't mind organizing a DIS meet. My daughter(12--will be 13 in August) would love to have someone to pal around with occasionally. And if there are any boys, my son (9) is itching to play basketball on the ship! Hopefully they won't ditch me all at once. We are so excited.
I know some people go all out on a DIS meet making buttons and arranging large gatherings. Maybe, to identify ourselves, I could at the least get a cool name sticker with the DIS logo. Too nerdy? Let me know.

My wife and I will be on this cruise. It's our first 7 night cruise and we have no idea what to expect. We have taken several 3 and 4 day cruises so this will be a new experience.

We are in Stateroom 6568.
We were in 8070 last time (2 yrs ago on the Wonder). Don't think there's a big difference, hope not anyway.

I don't think the stickers are nerdy at all. That's very sweet of you. My son loves basketball; plays for his school. He says it's much different on the ship, though.

We also have a DD5 (will turn 5, 2 dys before cruise).
This is our first trip to the Western, sounds wonderful from the boards. I am soooo excited!:hyper:

YES! We've got a good group. It will just be nice to semi know someone on the ship. My 12 year old dtr. may or may not choose to do the club. Definitely depends on if she finds a buddy. I think this DIS meet thing will help.

Has anyone ever been to a DIS meet? Where would be the best time and place?
We'll be staying at the Hyatt and getting to the dock relatively early. Maybe we could meet on the ship before the sailaway party.
I have a PO Box. What do you think about sending me a self-addressed envelope and I'll mail out DIS name stickers before the cruise. Or you could send your address through the a private message. Whichever you feel most comfortable with. And if you neither of those options appeal to you, I could just keep a stack with me and you could stick them on when we gather.

Hey Everbody,
Andy "Verandah Man" emailed me with a suggestion for meeting.
-quote-
If you want my opinion, I would suggest meeting in the Promenade Lounge on deck 3. I would also suggest an early Sunday afternoon meet. Last year we met between the Safety Drill and the Sailaway Party and it was just way to rushed for me. We had first planned to meet on deck 9 behind Topsiders, but I'm glad we changed that, as it was very nasty weather the day we left port, at least inside it was dry and cool. This year we will be meeting early Sunday afternoon. We are also having a DISmeet Brunch at Palo for those adults that are interested. We have about 20 people already signed up for that.

I guess we may have to wait until then unless we tried a quickie before the sailaway party. But then everyone is all wound up and pulled in so many different directions. I have tried looking around to see what other cruisers did but there are SO MANY posts to go through. You're right, let's see if someone else offers an opinion. We can post it on the regular site in the future to get suggestions.

This is my first time here and this will be our second Disney Cruise (3 day 2 years ago). My DH, DD7 and I will be going. We will be staying on deck 6. I expect DD will be spending a lot of time at the Oceaneers club as she isn't into shopping or sightseeing. I am sure she'd love to make some friends her age that she can play with during the week.
None of us had any problems with being seasick. We hardly even noticed any motion on the boat.
DH and I are pretty excited about this vacation. We haven't told DD yet and probably won't until closer to time to go (don't want to spend 2 mos listening to "Mommy, when are we going on the cruise?"). Less than 2 months now, though! Hurray!!!!

Well, the May 22nd people are meeting at the Promenade Lounge in Deck 3 at 2 pm on Monday. They chose that date per the suggestion of other Western cruisers so why don't we do the same.
I could even mail out the stickers--maybe small green circles that say DIS Board Member. We could wear them so as to recognize each other before hand but I'll have extras for the meet.
What do you guys think?
Open to ideas for sure.

:sunny: I'm so sorry I have been tardy from the boards. With softball, soccer, end of school activities, work.....well, I won't preach to the choir, you know how it is.
Yes, let's meet on Monday, 2:00, Deck 3, in the Promenade Lounge. Only one family sent me their address for the name tags. So instead, I'll bring some name badges. Probably name with your DIS screen name would be helpful. Just to help with identification. Unless someone else comes forward with a better suggestion (and really, I'm all for that!) we'll do it like this. Simple yet personable.
No, I haven't received our docs yet either. And I'll probably end up getting the new Passporter delivered after we've already left.
Oh well. Is everyone as excited as we are?:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

I keep meaning to send you my address for a tag, hughiedeweylouie. I just tried to pm it but got a message saying "This page cannot be opened" so I don't know if you'll get it or not..... If not, name badges are ok too! I think there's only a few of us going to be on the cruise anyway. I will be sure to make a note on my calendar about the meet.
I got traveller's checks yesterday and am debating about getting more, not sure if I got enough or not! I am chomping at the bit to pack but cannot start until after May 22 as my guest room will be used on the 21st so I have nowhere to put open suitcases until then! But I have started hanging dresses, dress clothes, etc in there so it is becoming more real, in my mind at least!
See you all soon!!!!

Our family still hasn't narrowed down the excursions yet...
we wanted to do the Dolphin Swim @ Cozumel, but the age restriction (starts w/age 8) has cancelled that one for us.
We're thinking of doing the Dolphin Discovery w/Disney in Cozumel. Have any of you done this one or booked this one?
DH is a procrastinator so I'm trying to be patient :hyper: , even tho' I'm not one of those! Wish I was!!!
hughiedeweylouie: I TOTALLY understand! Do not stress out about the name tags...we're doing the same jugglin' act. Between DS's baseball practices and games, and my DD's demands (4yo), having a tougher time planning and packing than the last cruise, or at least it seems that way. Anyway, appreciate you doing that!
KatHuss: sooooo excited, only hope I remember everything before I need it!
Still hoping to get the docs any day now!!!!:teeth:

TO ALL JUNE 5thERS:(if you get a chance, drop a line as to the excursions you are doing)
KatHuss
05-07-2004, 02:05 PM
The only excursion we have booked is the early morning island tour and snorkeling with the stingrays. The almost 8 year old (she will be 8 in August) will love that. After that we plan on taking her back to the ship and then we will wander Grand Cayman (shopping, etc) without having to worry about her being bored. We did a dolphin thing in Nassau two years ago so aren't doing that this trip. We want to see the San Gervasio ruins on Cozumel but don't want to go to the beach there so rather than doing the tour we are looking at getting a cab (about $45 round trip and the cabbie waits according to other on the DIS boards) to go there, then we will shop, eat, etc on our own there.
Does anyone know yet what stateroom they will be in? We are supposed to be in 6607 (unless by some chance we get an upgrade, but I am not going to hold my breath).
I know DD7 will want to spend most of her time in the Oceaneer's Club (she got upset when she couldn't on the 3 day two years ago). And I plan on making a ressie at the salon for a manicure and maybe even some hair color on Monday.
We have been debating making a Palo res but just aren't sure when. Is anyone else making a res for Palo? The brunch? Anyone want to do one together?
4 week's from tomorrow!!!!! I cannot wait. And I can't start packing for two more weeks :( .

stateroom 6568. (no upgrade that we know of, don't know how common that is in our range, tho')
We have another room booked thru my mom and dad and it's an inside stateroom (for the teens and one adult),but I don't know the number, they've got the paperwork on it.
We are going to book Palo for the brunch, but don't know what day yet? It will just be the adults I guess, I almost wish they'd allow teens in there as my DS will miss crab legs :(
I don't know how much DD4, soon to be 5 (Gabi) will want to stay in the Club, probably longer than I will want her too. I miss her so much when she's not around. :sad2:
I know, I've been cking my countdown entirely too much!

We booked the Dolphin Discovery in Cozumel through Disney. If you are interested I would recommend that you call asap. It is one of the most popular excursions. When I called a couple of weeks ago the 10:20 & 12:00 were full so we got tickets to the 1:00. I can emphathize with you about not knowing for sure what to book. I held off later than I wanted to because I couldn't decide what to do as well. Someone made the recommendation to me to go ahead & book and you can cancel up until I believe the week before you cruise. The good thing about that is when you book through Disney they do not charge you when the reservation is made. That way you have reserved yourself a ticket and in the event that you change your mind you can cancel and you are not out any money assuming that you cancel within a week of your cruise. We also wanted to do the Dolphin swim but were unable to since our daughter is 7. I have read a lot about that particular excursion and honestly I don't think she will feel like she has missed out on anything. It's suppose to be a great experience! I haven't booked any other excursions yet. I'm sure we will, I just wanted to get the Dolphin Discovery since that's what my kids had their heart set on the most. I can hardly believe it is getting so close.

As far as excursions go, we are doing the Royal Swim in Cozumel. Horseback riding with Nicki at Grand Cayman. Banana boats on Castaway Cay. I just went to Sam's and got us snorkle stuff so we could do a little here and there without worrying about finding gear. Not sure of my 9 year olds ability to paddle with flippers, keep face in, and breath at the same time. We may just be standing in shallow water and bending over.
Just got my lanyards at Walmart yesterday. 97 cents!
Holy Cow this is going to be so cool!:sunny:

What kind of lanyards did you get?
We have snorkeling gear for my DH and mask and snorkel for DD7 (I haven't gotten flippers as I am not sure she'll really need them). I don't have any but don't think I'll really need it either. We rented some at CC two years ago and I only used mine for a short time. DH on the other hand stayed out so long that he sunburned his entire back (back of arms and legs too)! So this year he bought a dive skin to use at CC because he plans to snorkel again.
Is it really four weeks from today????? That song keeps going through my head.... I'm so exicted.....

If you go to the Wallet/purse section of Walmart, ask for the ID holders that hang around your neck.
I also plan to go to a local sports store and get a "dry box" or something I can wear in the water. I don't want to leave any important ID stuff, KTTW, or $$ on the shore while we're out swimming.
What song is going through your head?

We too bought some of the snorkel stuff at Sams but I am wondering now if I will even be able to fit it in my luggage once I get all the babies stuff packed :)
My girls are getting really excited about this!
We are doing Royal swim in Cozumel, Capt. Marvins in Grand Cayman, banana boats and parasailing at Castaway Key and probably butterfly conservatory in Key West :)

I got some waterproof id holdes through AquaPac. They are a little pricey but they hold id's, money, kttw card, etc and are not bulky like the dry boxes.
I generally have pockets or something so hadn't thought about getting any id holders. I don't really think I want to let DD7 walk around with her card (I think I am going to get her blocked from charging with her card).
The song running through my head is "I'm so excited". I think it's the pointer sisters or something.... it is driving me nuts!!!

I think I will try to talk my crew into wearing something so we can be recognized by other disers.. Bright green (isn't that the dis board colors?) or something like that.
KatHuss
05-08-2004, 07:07 PM
Yes, I bought two keymasters (one for me, one for DH). They looked like a good idea for CC and for our excursion on Grand Cayman. Put KTTW card, cash and credit cards in them and you can take them in the water and not worry about that stuff disappearing.
I cannot wear green so you won't see us that way. Once we board we are probably going to head for lunch since our plane gets in around 11:00 and we won't have eaten until we actually get on board. I think we have most of our room numbers posted so we can always call too....if we are ever in our staterooms that is!
I couldn't stand it anymore. I cleared space in the closet and started to pack! My DH says I am a mutant. Maybe I am, but it was driving me nuts. It did allow me to determine what I still need to get (not much) and what I had too much of set aside (I think I pulled 5 or 6 items of clothing!).
Ugh, 4 more weeks!

:bounce: Yipee! My ds, 9, will be so happy to have someone to play basketball with. We are getting more and more excited. As for your 17 year old. He'll have a great time.
I've been trying to figure a way for us to "stick out" the first day of the cruise so we may be recognized by other Disers. Didn't want to wear a name tag then(little nerdy). DD, 12, would have a hard time with us wearing anything that completely matched. So I went to the disneystore.com site and found three t-shirts. They have "Disney" written acoss the front using various character parts. And I got them in red(ds), white(dd--gave me her approval) and blue(me). We're all blond and my daughter will probably be inching past me in height by then! Look for us and say hello!

Ann, there is no way I could get my DH to even go along with something like that!
I don't know who will be bouncing around more, me or my DD7!! And she still doesn't even know what we will be doing for vacation (I cannot believe we have kept it a secret for this long!!). I will probably have my blue Mickey earrings on (got at WDW last June) but that will likely be the extent of the Disney dress (at least to start with). I love the Disney matching tropical dresses and shirts but DH threatened mutiny if I did that. Oh well!
I am still waiting anxiously for my docs to arrive (and getting more impatient by the day). I am still waiting to hear if they fixed my dinner seating assignment (I requested early but somehow we ended up with late. I am a diabetic and cannot eat at 8:30 every night so I turned in a medical form) and that info should be in with my docs too.
I don't know if I can stand waiting 27+ more days!!!

I am feeling behind with everyone else thinking about packing, maybe I should get motivated.
Kat, they will fix your dining time, DCL is really good about that stuff :)
My dd14 broke her leg (two weeks ago, now in a short leg walking cast) and not sure if it will be off by sailing. So we will be easy to recognize at port, either look for the bright red cast, or the tan girl with a pale leg :)
I am hoping my dds hook up with some other dds to hang in the clubs with.
We booked the August 2005 repositioning cruise from CA to FL, anyone else?

I wouldn't expect you to look at everyone's ears! That is just the only thing I know for sure I will be wearing. I expect we will be travelling in slacks rather than shorts because it is easier than trying to put slacks in a carryon (in case we don't get our luggage before dinner time). I haven't even figured out what carryon I want yet!
Jeanne - is your dd7 going to be spending much time in the clubs? If so she and my dd7 will probably be doing much the same things. I think it would be great if they could meet early on so they'd have a buddy to play with.
I haven't packed much, mostly things like snorkeling gear, etc that fit best in the bottom. I have those space saver bags for things that won't wrinkle or don't matter (pjs, swim suits). I have been bad. I went out and bought new socks and such so they will look nice and so I can go ahead and pack them early! DH thinks I am really nuts. Maybe he's right. I still need to get a few more things (refills on meds, things like that). Most of the packing won't get done for about two more weeks. Then I will be able to lay it all out on the bed in the spareroom and see which suitcases I will need, etc. We just got new luggage so I don't know if the two largest will be necessary, or the largest and the smallest of the three! The two largest also have the ability to expand, something important for the trip home! And knowing me things will get packed and repacked several times before I am happy with it! But at least this way I am not likely to forget anything!

Hey, how about if we all have something green that would identify us? I saw on one meet thread where at the meet they all got green lanyards with their DIS name. I don't know how we would go about that but maybe we can figure something like that out.
How many are planning on going to the meet on Monday?? I know I am!

Well, misty9960, you were right.
We waited too long. The Dolphin Discovery is booked completely w/no openings available the day we will be in Cozumel.
I told my entire family (dad, mom, DH) that we needed to get on the ball and I don't think anyone realized how quickly (except 4me) they fill up.
Trying to get over it, are there some other Dolphin deals to do in Cozumel that you guys know of that a 5yo can participate in.
I saw in Grand Caymen, DD5 can't do the Stingray deal either, 6 is min age requirement.
:crazy2:
So now trying to figure out if I shd try and book something else on another port, if there is one.
Any ideas?
I know most of you have older children than our youngest, but didn't know if there is something I hadn't thought of that she could do w/animals.

lovebond,
sorry you missed out on booking the dolphin excursion.
Bet your dd would love the butterfly conservatory in Key West. We did that in September and will be taking our girls there, it is very nice.
You could book a stingray excursion on your own through Capt. Marvins. We did that before (and are doing it again) and it is a top notch business. Loved it.
I need to find a new garment bag type thing. Our old ones are shot, any suggestions on what to get?

I plan on being at the DIS meet. Wish we weren't waiting until Monday. It would be nice for our kids to find a buddy earlier. Is there any time on Sunday that suits anyone? I know we are in Key West but it doesn't sound like we'll be there all day.
As far as wearing something green, it sounds like a good idea. I don't have any ideas though.

I will look into it.
Don't have any green, not my best color. Will wear white CC T more than likely.

I just bought a white Minnie paradise t-shirt (white with pink design and Minnie). I will plan on wearing that. We get into Orlando at 11:00 and will then catch a shuttle to the port. After we get on board we will eat lunch and will hopefully then be able to get into our room to drop stuff. After that we will wander for awhile (have to register dd for club, etc). so maybe we can meet after the boat drill near one of the food stands upstairs or something. I remember on our last cruise the deck was pretty empty until the party got near.

Thanks, KatHuss, for pointing me to the DIS boards. I was hanging out on the passporter boards and wondered why I couldn't find other June 5 cruisers. My DS (age 9) is thrilled that he could hook-up with others his age. We were doing the glass bottom boat at Key West, but it was cancelled for dry dock repairs. We're now on our own there. We're doing the Rum Point Beach at Cayman Islands and Tulum Ruins at Cozumel. We've got a glass bottom boat tour at Castaway Cay, now. The only thing keeping me from packing is that our guest bedroom is going to be used this weekend, and that's the only place I have to lay out my suitcases! Looking forward to meeting all of you in a little over 3 weeks. We'll be flying down on Thursday, staying at the Courtyard Cocoa Beach for 2 nights.

So how about we meet at or near Pluto's right after the boat drill? The sail away party is usually round 4:30 so if we get there around that time Pluto's might be better than Pinocchio's because it is away from the party area (whereas Pinocchio's is right by where the party will be). If we want to bring the kids, cool. If not, we can meet and then maybe plan for another time to introduce kids (like later when we drop them at the clubs or something).
How does that sound??

Since we all have been to Key West tons of time, we didn't book anything. We will probably do the Duval Crawl.
Grand Cayman we booked stingray city with Nativeway. They came highly recommended.
Hubby and son are scuba diving in Cozumel. Still not sure what we girls will do, probably shop.
Castaway Cay, banana boat for son & hubby, parasail for me & son.
Just tell me when & where to meet.
I am very easy to spot. I use a blue power chair, and will probably be zooming around on decks 9 and 10. I go to deck 10 for the sail a way.

We don't have anything planned for Key West, though I would love to tour the cemetary (so I/m weird, I love to walk through old cemetaries, there are always such interesting markers and inscriptions). It is supposed to be quite something. And of course, shopping and the sunset.
On Grand Cayman we are taking the early island tour with snorkeling at Stingray City. Taking dd7 on that one, then taking her back to the ship and doing some sightseeing and shopping on our own.
On Cozumel we are looking at taking a cab to San Gervasio (I would love to see it, even if it isn't major ruins) and then shopping in town.
Hopefully we can find each other near the party, that would be fun to meet early on....

grlzmom: what time did u book for on the Capt. Marvins deal(8:30, 11:15, 1:45) did you book thru them completely and which excursion did you choose (short/half-day/etc). It says on some of the "older" navigators the time approx. ashore (GC) is 8am. For the first time (8:30) on the short excursion it says ck in BY 8am. That would be impossibe, I'm guessin'.

Glad some of you guys got docs today :)
We are booked on the 11:15 short excursion with Capt. Marvins.
We have previously done the half and all day excursions. Since we are taking some of the younger dds this time, we are opting for the shorter one, just enough time in the sun. They get really tired after a couple of hours. You will love whichever one you choose. They are the best. Last time we had Capt. Marvin himself and he was celebrating his 83rd bday! Their shop is nice and airconditioned and so are their shuttle busses.
It would be very difficult to make the 8:00 trip. For those going without little ones I highly recommend the all day one, it is incredible to say the least.
Main dining is early dining. Kind of cuts into the day, but the only way to go with kiddos.
One thing we really enjoyed last time was booking Palos champagne brunch for Sunday a.m. just in time to watch the boat dock in Key West. It was beautiful.
My girls are Potter fans also and hoping we can let them catch the movie sometime that Friday too. Wonder what kind of movies will be showing on board during our cruise?
KatHuss
05-13-2004, 09:48 PM
Jeanne, I heard that you can call the cruise line up to a week before your cruise and find out what movies are playing. I tried to call earlier tonite and after being on hold for 20 minutes I gave up!
I thought main was the early dining. That means that they fixed it for me. My ta had mistakenly put me in for late but being diabetic I cannot eat that late for the entire cruise! So that is cool!

I called the air/sea number (they handle docs) 1-877-566-0967, and ours are in the mail to us. If anyone is antsy I would recommend calling them.
I originally had late dining, but had them switched to main, I tend to get migraines if I don't eat on a schedule, no probs at all with a Dr's note.
Deck 9 at the sailaway is way crowded, deck 10 is kinda calmer. I don't do stairs (wheelchair) but it is prob better to meet on 10, then if you want to go to 9 there are stairs, let me know. The sail-a-way is not to be missed, almost wrth the price of the cruise!

Yes, deck 10- overlooks the goofy pool, that is where the sail-a-way is. I will be up there (elevator goes there) prob by the side which is on where we board, I love to see the CM's waving bye with the Mickey hands. I am usually by the railing by the pool, I am very very easy to spot, I have long blonde hair and my power chair is blue. The reason I don't go to deck 9 is that it gets so crowded, and since I am sitting I can't see very well.

Well, I'd say whenever we can get that way between the boat drill and the sailaway. Somewhere overlooking the goofy pool.
I'd say punt the tags. If my order from the Disney store arrives in time I should be wearing my white Minnie paradise Tshirt and hopefully have changed into shorts and sandals by the time of the sailaway.
I am going to try to get my haircut today (I keep it fairly short and it has gotten out of control) and then sometime on Monday on the cruise I am going to try to schedule an appt at the salon for some type of color and a manicure as a surprise to DH. I got looking at menus and I would like to try to make a ressie at Palos for Tuesday as the Master Chefs menu doesn't impress me much.

Hey did any of you read the thread on the board about unruley teens? I think my kids are the best in the whole wide world. But another good reason for an early DIS meet will be lots of adults who recognize my children. I don't know why but it gives me peace of mind for many reasons. This will be the first real taste of freedom for my 12 year old. Not sure how comfortable I'll be about letting my 9 year old roam. Thankfully our room is right next to the labs.

Yes, I saw that posting. Makes me glad my dd is still too young to allow to roam free (though she certainly doesn't think so!). I won't be able to get her up to the first meeting on Saturday until after the sailaway, though.
Does anyone else have main seating? Maybe we can stop by tables in there to introduce kids that didn't want to miss the sailaway?
I am anxiously awaiting orders of clothing for the trip. I ordered a shirt from the Disney store for me and a suit (yes, we ordered a new one) for DH fo formal night. Am hoping both arrive soon. The suit pants will need to be hemmed so they have two weeks!
I looked at menus online and the one for the Master Chefs on Tuesday didn't look like anything I'd be thrilled about so I am seriously thinking about trying to book a Palo ressie for that evening.

I got ours at Sam's and they did come with a bag. I can't remember exactly how much they cost. Around 30.00 maybe? The good part was my dd's is adult size so hers will last. My ds needed the kids size(the mouth piece, mask, and flippers are smaller) but with his big growing feet, I bet we will only get two summers worth of use.
KatHuss
05-18-2004, 06:32 AM
ds had mask and snorkel from last year so we didn't have to buy that. Not buying her fins as I don't think she will really need them. DH bought mask, snorkel, fins and a dive skin! He got so sunburned at CC last time we went that he isn't taking any chances! And when I ordered his fins I found a cool bag that holds all the gear and has straps like a backpack. For as little as I am likely to snorkel I didn't even bother getting any for me.
I know what you mean about trying to make sure you have everything and if there is anything else you need to get. I think at this point I am just waiting on things I have ordered, including a pin "bag" for dd. She loved the pins when we went to WDW last year and was just getting the hang of trading when we had to leave so she asked if she could bring hers and try again. Why not!
On the one hand I want it to be here now, on the other I have so much at work that HAS to get done before June 4 and it isn't even close to being done. What a dilemma, eh?

Thanks to our REAS, I just got done booking Palo dinner, brunch and spa ressies. I didn't realize that I got to pick our dining rotation, also (A,P,L). We're doing Palo brunch on Thursday at 10:30, so anyone else booking a brunch? If so, we'd love to have you sit with us... By the way, I was a little confused when I went to aquapac.com and found an insurance company web page. There is an error on the page when trying to submit my order. Is there anywhere else that I can find something similar (other than on the web)?

Sandi, I had that problem with aquapac too. It is www.aquapac.net. Confusing, isn't it???
I haven't even though of doing brunch at Palo. If you want folks to sit together don't you have to simply book a table for more than just you? I've never done it so I don't know...

Our snorkel gear at Sams was like 30 dollars and does come with plastic bag (body glove brand I think).
Thinking now we may not even bring it though since the girls don't really do much snorkeling on Castaway Cay (unless they get there early before all the sand gets kicked up). With parasailing and banana boating they will probably be content.
We will be doing our Palos brunch on Sunday (hopefully). And, if we can get the ressie. doing palo dinner on Mexicalifragalistic night as we dont enjoy that menu too much.
The rowdy teenager issue bothers me. Everyone on the boat has a parent somewhere, obviously they arent being very involved if the kiddos are hanging out that late/that long alone. Not very responsible. My dds do NOT get unlimited free roaming unsupervised time. After all, its supposed to be a family vacation!

So excited! My dd just got a letter today from Jeanne (grzlmom). So nice for her to bond before the cruise.
Is the Mexican night not that great? Since it is just me and the kids, should we try the buffet in the other dining room?

The mexican was fine, just not to our tastes. The older dds may still go to regular dinner seating while we go to Palo.
Dd 14 and dd 12 think they're so cool to eat alone. That worked out really nice on our last cruise (plus the grandparents are there so they arent really alone).
Anne, My dd was thrilled with your dds letter and another is on the way. Amazing, physically, hair color, eye color, skin color they are very similar. I hope they meet at port that a.m.. What time are you getting there?
whinim, we are on the direct on June 2nd. Gotta love that direct from bloomington and free parking! Things may change though as dh suddenly needs to do some business thing in Atlanta and we may be DRIVING (ugh) so he can stop on the way down.
So close now, must start getting things together.

without my (cheat sheet)navigator at the moment...was looking at some old details, I guess.
On our western, is formal night Thursday or Sunday?
KatHuss
05-18-2004, 06:52 PM
I think formal night is Monday, isn't it? The navigator for the Western dated April 12, 2004 that I found says it is Monday. Sunday is Key West so I doubt they'd do it that night. I think it is usually a night you have been at sea during the day.
I hope that those of with younger kids can let them meet as soon as possible. We will likely be bringing dd7 to the kids club that night. Hopefully we can get them introduced during or right after the sailaway!
My Minnie shirt and cool tote bag the opens into a beach towel came from the Disney store today! Now I just need the new clothes that we ordered for DH to get here and I will have pretty much everything I need. And after this Saturday I can get down to real packing as my spare room will be available to spread everything out over the bed!
See you all soon!

is there x-box, playstations on board for my older teen??
grlzmom
05-18-2004, 08:05 PM
I think formal night is Monday and semiformal is Thursday.
jneaves 45, I know they have video games for the older kids but my dds arent sure which ones cause they dont play, sorry I cant help you with that one.
Kathuss, we used to live in Indiana, sort of north central area. My girls will be going to the clubs the first night for sure but I think my dd7 will be going to the lab instead because she will be like a week shy of her 8th bday. She has done the club a couple of times and LOVED it. Your dd will have a great time.

I don't think they have any xbox or playstation in the staterooms. My teenage daughter would have loved that.. so I think I would remember that detail from our last cruise. They may have it in the area just for teens. I'd love to know if they do as well... then you would know if you should pack some games to play with others
I thought the formal night was Thursday. PIL's renewing thier wedding vows after 50 years... and I thought it was the same night? :wave2:

my oldest wants to pack a x-box and bring to play in the room, but i don't want him staying in the room, when he could be out doing other things. he can do that at home. he wants to bring some games to play on board if the ship has them available
KatHuss
05-18-2004, 09:20 PM
Jeanne, too bad that your dd will be with the older kids. My dd7 won't be 8 until August so I don't think they will let her go to the lab yet. Ah well.
We leave in east central Indiana. We are flying out of Indy on the morning of the cruise so are staying at a hotel overnight as our plane leaves at 7am! Ugh.
I tried on the shirt I got from the Disney Store and I am upset. I went by their size charts and it is too small! I have to see if I can return this one and get a new one before the cruise!

I found a thread in the regular portion of the board about formal and semi-formal nights. Here is what I found on posted Navigators:
The Platinum Castaway Club site (********************** which is not a Disney site) has copies of recent Navigator's. On the April 24, 2004 Western cruise formal night was Monday and semi-formal was Thursday.
On the most recent Eastern Navigator they had (February 21, 2004) it shows formal night on Sunday and semi-formal on Thursday.
It appears that the formal nights are always on at sea days which makes sense because you don't have to rush to get back to the ship for early seating, you can go to the spa or salon, etc.
Hope that help!

That does help--I had left my navigators at home and I think I got mixed up in some Eastern vs Western formal and semi-formal nights discussions.
jneaves: I thought I read somewhere in the Teen Navigators from April '04 that there is a Playstation 2 tournie of some type. But, I don't know if they have those in Common Grounds or not.
I bet you could start a thread out there on the main boards and find out in a jiffy.
Thanks for the info on the Sam's snorkel stuff. We had read that you could snorkel at CC for free if you have your snorkel gear. Free sounds awful good to us. ::yes:: Plus, we can buy them to keep (play in pools) for as much to rent on CC. Didn't do last time on cruise. (4dayWonder)
We try to cut costs where we can...these trips add up awful fast. :earseek:
Do any of you know where Tortuga is? It's mentioned in Pirates of the Caribbean movie (own it and love it). I think it was an old island either on/by Grand Cayman or Cozumel. Just curious if any of you know anything about it. Haven't researched much.
We're down to the wire...have to have my evening gown taken up still (lost some pounds after wearing it last), guess it's better than the alternative. :p

If I am reading my maps correctly Tortuga is just off the coast of Haiti, almost due east of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
I love the Pirates of the Caribbean too. I cannot wait for the sequel, just hope it is as good as the original. Great story, brilliant casting....

Jneaves45, maybe he could bring it and hook it up in the teen room... that way, he might make some new friends and have some game competitions... you never know..... we might encounter a rainy day and it might be fun. Can't hurt to bring it along, just in case... it wouldn't take up to much space in the luggage.....

I looked at the calender and I don't think there is one free night between here and the cruise. But I guess that beats sitting around in anticipation.

Major scare here!!!!!!!!
DD's employer wouldn't let her for the week, (glad I bought insurance!!) so I had to find someone to take her spot. If she didn't go we would have had to put DS in our room (our room only sleeps 3) and we would have had to tell grand-daughter (age 5) that she couldn't go. That was unacceptable!! So we put the word out to our family, a free 7 night cruise for them. Our nephew (age 19) decided to go. Called DVC and it cost me $75 to change the name and $35 to re-print the docs. He got his plane tickets. New docs came today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Big big worry taken care of, we had to re-shuffle people in our cabins cause he is under age. But we were told we could sleep in whichever cabin we want when we get there.
Tux's are ordered, excursions booked, last mnute shopping done, can I relax now???
Getting super excited now!!

No, no relaxing yet! I have started to pack in earnest but still have things that won't get packed until close to the end as I don't want them too wrinkled. And new suit for DH hasn't come in yet either. DD7 has one more day of school left and she is geting very excited but we have a camping trip this weekend to make it through first! I still have little things to do (making sure meds are stocked, last minute errands, etc) and after today 6 1/2 days of work to make it through as well! Ugh.
Soon, though!!!

Is anyone as paranoid as me? After all this planning and being on this board, I just think something is going to happen and we're not going to be able to go. DS fell HARD during a soccer game and in my selfish brain I thought, "Uh oh, he's going to need a cast. How will we ride the banana boats?" Don't I sound like a great mom?
Can't wait to meet all of you after the safety drill. Remember, we'll have on Red(DS), White(DD), and Blue(me) Disney shirts. Look for us and we'll look for Sherry.

I watched the Magic last week and thought next time it will have us on board!
Is anyone coming a day ahead? We will be at the Radisson.

I started packing but I think I am going to unpack everything and repack to make sure I know exactly what I do and don't have!

I'm just praying I won't forget anything and have time to pack. Found out DS made "all-stars" for baseball. Yeah, but now we have a game Friday night (the night) before we leave! :earseek:
DH doesn't see this as an issue. He's the calm, sports-driven male. Gotta love him...
Has anyone weighed their suitcase?
I'm nervous w/all of our stuff, what we will weigh in @. Our airline (USAir) only allows 50 lbs. per suitcase and 2 per person w/one carry-on. That doesn't sound like a lot of weight allowance, I understand it, but I've got snorkel gear in mine too!
:teeth:
Airlines should have to be more lenient w/us 7-day travelers than 4 others traveling shorter vac.'s. (Even if we do cost them more in gas.)
Everyone's sooo excited in my household as I'm sure in all of yours.
I just pray we're not so worn out that we want to sleep thru it! :faint: (not a chance)

I haven't finished packing so no, I haven't weighed my suitcases. I did move them and I know they weigh less than my daughter so I am not worried. The smaller one is the heavier of the two and I can lift it easily so I should be ok. I expect the weight limits are to protect the employees from injuries due to heavy lifting! With three of us we would be allowed 6 total suitcases plus carry-ons so we could manage that if we had to but I'd hate to carry that many suitcases!! I think we can get away with two suitcases and one carry-on each (DH has his laptop in a carry on and DD will have books, stuffed animals, toys, etc).
4 days from right now I will be on deck!!!!!

Hey gang,
Has been a bad week here in terms of personal stress. Dd got her cast off her leg which is a good thing but then dd9 got appendicitis and spent an entire week in the hospital. She is out and has the ok for the trip but is not 100 percent herself of course. Doctor said let pain be her guide and if she feels like doing something, let her.
We are leaving in the morning and will spend two nights at Disney and then Friday night at Radisson. Look for three rowdy toddlers near the pool if you dare.
My parents are excited (this is their first Disney cruise).
We are staying ten days after cruise at Disney and so packing for 9 people for 3 weeks is an adventure to say the least.
Dont know if I will be able to meet up with you guys after lifeboat drill. We have tried that before and time slipped away. Please if you see me in line at port say hello. I am easy to spot with seven kiddos, and six of them being girls.
My dh has been away and coming home tonight so I can get serious with the packing.

No way will my DH do the matching stuff. I wanted to get the tropical Mickey shirt for him and the dresses for DD and myself but he said no way. Oh well.
