Our 5 y/o DS is a bit of a chicken (sadly, he inherited it from me). He had to leave ITTBAB at AK because he was freaked out. I want to take him to see Philharmagic, but I don't know if it will scare him or not. Could someone who has seen it tell me a bit about it? Also, has anyone's kid seen it, how old are they and how did they react?

Not scary at all - delightful. My daughter, who is extrasensitive to anything scary, loves it

I was fine in the show....(an adult) DD who is 16 months had to leave. The show is so incredibly LOUD!! and I like my rock music loud but this was almost unbearable. If he didn't like the bug show I don't think he would like this one either.

My DS3 & DS5 both did fine for Philarmagic. You might want to help your son by letting him know ahead of time what to expect from some of the 3D effects ( wind, water,etc.).

We just got back and my 2 1/2 year old daughter absolutely loved it. She kept trying to reach out and "touch" the 3-d images. It was a little loud but she did fine. She also did ITTBAB and did not like that. Hope this helps.

Much to my disappointment, my kids are chickens too. ;) Like you, we had to leave ITTBAB but that was also with our friends and their kids, who usually arent chickens. All 4 kids were flipping out. With that said, 4 months later we saw Mickeys Philharmagic and my kids did fine there. My youngest didnt want to put on the glasses, but he was ok with being there.

when my son was uncomfortable about a ride because of the loudness I got him a pair of ear muffs like you use when you shoot. Can get them at sports stores. He can start off with them on and then decided when it is okay to remove them. It put him in control and he says that he could still hear us talking to him.
Just a thought. Have fun.

We sat toward the front and it was LOUD!
I wonder if sitting near the back would make a difference?

We had to leave ITTBAB TOO! My DS6 hates dark rides/rooms atWDW. Maybe it's because we took him on Matterhorn Bobsled before he was 3:p . Anyway, he was fine in Philharmagic. I was afraid my DD2 might get scared so I put sun glasses on her instead of the 3D glasses. She had a great time.

This show is GREAT! Perfect for small children. It stars Donald and is mixed a little with Fantasia. Donald "borrows" the sorcerer's hat and has a little adventure. My daughter loved it! She was only 1 at the time but she laughed, giggled, and clapped throughout the show. It is located in Fantasyland and appropriately themed!
He will love it.

This is a great movie and shouldn't be missed by anyone. There is absolutely nothing scary about it at all. I went just this last December with a group ages 5 to 70 and we all loved it. I can't wait to go back and see it again!
My DS7 was just a bit worried when we sat down and put the glasses on only because ITTBAB had totaly freaked him out the year before. I told him there was nothing scary in this one and he adored it. It made us all laugh. My DD4 loved it from the word go. I had not taking her to ITTBAB the previous year because I knew it would freak her out.
Go and enjoy! We were in the back and it was loud, but nothing you don't usually get at Disney. Maybe the back is better? They say the 3D effects are supposed to be better from the back.
It is located in Fantasyland and has replaced the old Lion King show.

WEll, we must be odd ducks. (No pun intended, ha ha) Actually I know we are!! I LOVED this show and DD7 who is also a chicken liked it a lot too. However, my 4 yo was pretty freaked out by the 3D effect. He took off the glasses and then was fine. Same with DS2. He was getting all freaked out and saying he wanted to go home. I told DH to take the glasses off of him and then he was fine.
These are children who we have not taken to any 3D shows knowing that they would not like them. My MIL went to ITTBAB and said to us, "Do NOT take DG!" Yep, we knew that!
So, many say no big deal, but be prepared. Depending on your kid, it might be. Strangely, we did not have a problem with the noise. (That is why my kids say they will not go on Winnie the Pooh--told you they were chicken!) We were toward the back, but more at the middle of the theater.
