Mousplanet is reporting a rumor that IASW will close for rehab on June 7, 2004 until March 2005.....wow that is a long time to go without a classic!

Wow ... that IS a long time. It was closed a couple of years ago for one of our trips, and you know, something just didn't seem right about that trip ;)

I wonder what they have to do that it will be down for so long?

It was closed the year we went on our Honeymoon...I was SOOO sad! My dh took a picture of me giving a boo boo lip in front of the "being refurbished" sign.
You know, that song is so darn annoying, but it doesn't seem right not to go on the ride at least once during a trip! :p

The park update for WDW at www.mouseplanet.com indicates that a new scene may be added, electrical updates etc.

Someone please say it's not so! I hope it is just a bad rumor.

That is a really long time for this attraction to be closed...BUT it really needs some help. The scenes are getting dusty and on my last 2 trips I noticed several broken figures throughout the ride.
A new scene would be nice addition. Hopefully it won't take a full year to change it!

But little does she realize, We will now have to go on it at three three times as much as usually!
Once for our last trip which she would not go! Of course this trip over Easter and then for the October trip! HHHMMMMMMMM! Maybe we should do quadruple duty just in case!LOL

DARN. Why couldn't it stay closed through April 2005? I'm in the minority here, apparently, but I just do not appreciate that ride. We do often ride it either with my grandmother (when she goes to the parks with us) or in honor of her when she isn't at the parks. However, I've never understood why the line for that ride is so long when there are so many other GREAT rides in the MK. But that's just me. If they do a scene change that could make it more interesting, at least there would be something new to see. I guess I could tolerate going on it once to see that.

Just the other day I was considering whether or not we should do Small World this trip; between DL and WDW we have done it a hundred times! But as soon as I brought up the question I realized that we could not make a trip without going on it, so I am glad that it will still be open next month. I was actually not planning to take any more trips to WDW after this one, but I might have to go back just to see what has changed on this ride!

Are they only closing the one at WDW or also the one at Disneyland?

This is DH's least favorite ride. Now I know he will want to go back to WDW the year it is down.:teeth:

This is my DH least favourite ride as well, but we always outvote him and ride it on at least 3 occassions, sometimes we make him ride it just because there is no line. I even got this melody!!! on my mobile just to annoy him even more

This ride needs to be updated so badly, I think this refurbishment is great!

Funny because this is one of the few rides that DH actually likes.
Personally, I hate this because I expect it to make the lines at Peter Pan MUCH longer.

I'm just glad I'm not the person who has to give all those little tykes a bubble bath!
As rude as this is going to sound - I'm actually a little glad it will be closed because this is one of my least favorite rides to go on. Now....I'm not saying I dislike it (it's a WDW staple and all) I'm just so very tired of it.
We go on it every year because my DD natually loves it (you can't blame her) and because it is a nice way to beat the heat for awhile.
This way with this being closed, we can leave Fantasyland a little faster and allow my DD to do things she hasn't been able to do before like go on Splash Mountain.

  WHAT??!!?!?!
I can't believe it! This is my DD's (4 & 7) first trip! I can't beleive that they won't get to experience It's a Small World! They are at the PERFECT age to truly enjoy it! I'm soooooo sad!!:(

OMG, that is horrible! I can't imagine a trip w/o IASM!
There is just something about it that brings back all of those magical childhood Disney memories... sigh... I hope they don't change it that much:(

This makes me sad, it was closed in 2000 when we took our whole family (cousins and all) on a land/sea vacation, and now we're planning to do it again and it will be closed again!!! My mom will be so sad!

I wouldn't call it something that I MUST see but I usually manage to ride it once every third trip. Just for old times sake.
This month I did notice that a lot of the stuff is not working. The mechanical things in there are not really rocket science either, so there is no real reason for it not to be working. It needs a clean up and maybe upgraded AA's and just a general sprucing up.
I can live without it for a year. It will be tough but I can do it, I know I can.

PS....Does anyone know how to get rid of the countdown clock, below, once the trip is over?

I could pass on this ride too (the song!) but DH said he'd vote for it over Winnie the Pooh. (sob) There's just no accounting for taste!

Since my 3-yr old daughter is afraid of birds, she won't miss it. She rode the whole ride with her hands over her eyes. Funny... the Snow White ride didn't bother her.

That's so sad. My dd would have loved it. Oh, well, there's always next time. :(
To get rid of the countdown clock, I'm assuming you'd have to go to your profile and delete the little blurb. I'm not positive about that though.

I know I'm not spelling this right, but "Say wat da kraph?" (goodbye on one of the flowers).
A trip to Disney just isn't a trip to Disney without a ride on "It's A Small World." That sure is a long time for it to be closed. They must be planning a real heavy duty rehab for it. Either that, or all the small world kids are going on an extended vacation back to their home countries.
It's not one of my favorite rides, but it is one that I will miss when it goes for a rehab.

Thats exactly how I feel. I wouldnt say I love it, but its just so Disney that it has to be done on each trip. :( Ill miss it in July, but I guess the bright side is it will free up 10 minutes for another ride. ;)

I held my breath when I opened this for fear it was going to be closed in May! The ride may not be the most exciting, but it puts a smile on my face!

WOW....That is the best news I have heard in a while. I take comfort in knowing that I will not have to endure the torture of that painful attraction during my stay in December of this year. Although it is a clasic, a major facelift and modification would go a long way to make this ride more palateable for the masses that are forced to suffer through 15 minutes or so of monotony. It is cute to ride once in your life but that is about it. I truly hope that it is changed for the better. I know it seems anti-disney to post this but after getting stuck on it twice in for over 40 minutes the singing was almost more than I could bare. I truly mean no offense to anyone I just want to say that "It's A Small World" really needs help to appeal to a wider audience. pirate:

This ride is a staple of the MK. I don't mind missing it but my 2 DDs will be bummed.
Also newbies will not get to experience it. We are bringing my sister and her DD age 4 for their first (and probably last) time trip to WDW in August so I'm very bummed that my niece won't get to experience it.
My DH actually likes going on this ride just for the AC and being able to relax for awhile and there's usually not a long line. So he'll miss it for that aspect!;)
