They're a sneaker, from Land's End that's designed to wear as a walking shoe that doubles as a water slipper I'm going to try them for my honeymoon. I think they'd be PERFECT for Animal Kingdom to go on kali River Rapids and not deal with nasty water-logged socks and sneakers! :)

LOL, last week I got a Lands End catalog with these shoes ... my first thought was "gotta get a pair of these for Disney!"
SnackyStacky
03-18-2004, 12:17 PM
Well, I ordered a pair of them, and they just came in today. Now, we just got almost a foot of snow here in Buffalo, so I haven't worn them out, but I have to say that just wearing them around the house, they're REALLY comfy! They really are that light, and the support isn't bad either. An arch insert would make them even better, but WOW! I can't wait to wear these suckers around Disney! :)

How's the arch support in these sneakers? Thanks

For anybody without arch problems, it's decent. If you have an arch problem, I would either buy some inserts, or skip these. :)

i cant seem to find child sizes for this shoe. Sounds perfect for the parks! I hate trying to dry their sneaks after a wet day in the parks.
Anyone see them for the kids?

The name is different, but they look like exactly the same shoe.

Thanks!!!! That's them!
Ok now for the stupid question: Socks or no socks with these?
Curly :wave2:

03-20-2004, 11:19 PM
Well.... all the models in the catalogs had no socks on, but I think it's probably a matter of preference. I don't think I'll be putting socks on. But to prevent a heel blister, I'll be putting on some moleskin.
I would treat them like any other sneaker, and wear them somewhat to break them in before leaving. During that break in period, inspect their feet and if you see blister hotspots, put some socks on.
Not a dumb question at all! :)

Cathy, call the center, or place your order anyway.
I ordered for both my fiancée and myself, and she wanted the Clear Blue ones. I got the message that hers would be backordered, but they shipped within a few days of placing my order!
PS - my fiancée enjoys her clear blues ones! The color's great!

Soupermom, I looked at our Sears here in Buffalo, and they didn't have them. I wanted to try them on before I ordered them. But it might vary by store, so I would check before you take my word for it. :)

hey guys... how do these run? i can wear either a 10 or 11 in women's (i'm 5'11" tall so give me a break... i hate having big feet but they help me not fall over since i'm so tall). anyway do they run true to sneaker sizes or tight/loose?

I have a pair of Salomon's Amphibious shoes. They are very much like the Lands End shoe being talked about. They are super! Its like wearing a running shoe and not having to worry about it when it gets wet.
BUT THERE IS ONE BIG PROBLEM!!!
When they get wet, and you continue to wear them, watch out! When you take those off at the end of the day they stink to high heaven. I had to leave my on the balcony. My wife won't let me take them this trip. Teva's are able to air out enough but these....oh my!
I tried Lysol and other deodorants and nothing really helped.
My feet don't stink normally either.
Just thought ya'll might want to know.

Would these be good for the water parks? What do most people do at the water parks - wear a water shoe or go barefoot? Are there any rules about getting in the rafts/going down the slides w/ something on your feet? Thanks for any help all you water park veterans!
SnackyStacky
03-27-2004, 12:07 PM
I would say that these probably aren't water park friendly. Unless I'm mistaken, I don't think you're allowed to wear any kind of rubber sole foot wear on the slides.
I would say that these are more fit for things like Kali or Splash Mountain - where your sneakers and socks may get wet. I wouldn't wear them in the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon. :)
sdp1219
03-27-2004, 02:52 PM
When we went to typhoon lagoon everyone was wearing water shoes. The cement is very rough on your feet. And yes they were wearing them on the slides too.
SnackyStacky
03-27-2004, 05:41 PM
sdp, we're talking about two completely different shoes here. :)
These actually aren't water socks. As a previous poster mentioned, they're actually an amphibious sneaker. They provide the support and comfort of a sneaker with the wet-ability (I know that's not a word) of a water sock. :)

Here is a link to the children's mesh water shoes at Lands End. http://www.landsend.com/cd/fp/prod/0,,1_2_474_51300_101507_79954_5:view=-1,00.html?sid=8819063180404148540
They are not called Sea-to-Shore, but look very similar.
As far as the water parks go, I wouldn't recommend this type of shoe either. Since they have a sneaker sole, the cm's would probably make you take them off before entering the slide. I have worn water socks at TL and BB without a problem.
HTH!

Do you think if you had taken them off to dry out after they got soaked instead of continuing to wear them they wouldn't have ended up smelling so bad? Just wondering. I would think they would still dry out quite a bit faster than regular sneakers, though.
As far as water rides like KRR, I've seen many people just take their shoes off and stick them in the middle console until the ride is over. Do you think that if your feet are wet but the (mesh) shoes are dry then you could still stick your wet, sockless feet in them without worrying about a stench later on?
dkostel

On KRR I've also seen the CM make people put their shoes back on. I guess there's a shoe rule.

I am planning on getting these shoes for our trip too, but I have some time before I have to buy. My question (kind of silly) is since these shoes are mesh, if you are not wearing socks, should you put sunblock on your feet or would there be enough protection from the mesh. I am a fair skinned Irish girl and would hate to have sunburned feet ;) Any thoughts or comments????
SnackyStacky
03-29-2004, 09:38 PM
I burn pretty easily, and I don't think I'd worry about being sunburnt on my feet.
However, it never hurts to put on a layer of sunblock, just in case. :)

From one Irish girl to another, I've had sunburned feet and it's not pretty! They swell up like balloons. By all means, use your sunscreen. ( And while we're at it, don't forget to slather your ears.)

Just a touch wide? Hmmm.. our feet are closer to Fred and Barney's than Wilma and Betty's so wide is better.
We would wear socks with them but only something made of 100% acrylic that wicks...like our Thorlos. There would be little point in wearing any 'watershoe' with cotton socks.
Thanks for the heads up!

sorry for the delayed response.
Yes, I do believe that if you werent wearing them all day wet that they wouldn't stink so bad. But if it rains and you splash through puddle and don't have other shoes to put on, you are kind of stuck.
Also, I wore these at Blizzard Beach and didn't have any problem on anything except Summit Plummit. They made me take them off and hold them to my chest. No big deal really.

I have found the perfect sandal, and I have been searching for two years!
Now here is the catch--they are discontinued!!!!!
They are called Nike Presto Running Sandals and they have the most awesome mesh top with a tennis shoe bottom.
I found my first pair at Marshals, and I found a pair for my hubby on ebay a little while back. I still need more!
Just checked ebay on all of the Nike presto stuff and there are not any sandals, just the other styles that i am not interested in.
Anybody live in large metro areas that have closeout shoes stores? Where else would you suggest I look?
I callled Nike consumer relations direct and that guy was unhelpful.
Thanks!

so funny, my Mom and I saw these, too and said the same thing! Great WDW shoes! LOL
Great minds think alike!
Let me know how they feel. I worry about blisters, I usually wear slide tennis shoes.
I did receive my two Lands End swimsuits yesterday. Kinda disappointed. I always order them thru Lands End.
One swim skirt was defective and the other swimsuit was pretty darn ugly on me! Oh well....

Thanks for the reminder. I just ordered them for myself, my Mom and both my girls.
Unfortunately, the girls' shoes were on back order until the end of May and we leave for WDW the first part of June...
EDIT - Hubby came home and decided he wanted a pair, too. So I called and added them to the order. LOL We'll be the goober family all wearing the same shoes! LOL

Just wanted to share my experience. We ordered these shoes for the entire family. The children's shoes are backordered until May, our shoes arrived Monday. We wore the shoes Monday to walk 1.5 miles. I wore them the next night to walk 1 mile (this walking was more power walking while the previous night was more strolling). We both then attempted to wear them Wednesday night to walk another 1.5 miles. We had to stop half way through and head home because we were both bleeding; my dh had a blister that had formed and broken on his pinkie toe and the back of my heel was rubbed raw. These shoes are very comfortable when you first put them on, but are not comfortable for me to be wearing when I'm doing any exercise.
I know these are definitely not advertised as walking shoes, but this thread seems to indicate that these are great shoes to wear all day at Disney. This is definitely not the case for my dh and I and neither of us needs arch supports or even expensive shoes for support. We just walk daily and thought we'd see how these did. We're going to keep the shoes, but only to use at the water parks and when we're planning to ride Kali we'll slip them on just before we get on the ride. I plan to cancel the children's order. We went shoe shopping for walking shoes today and I discovered that every one of my children has grown in size, so they're the wrong size anyway. I may just switch to the action sandals they sell.

I'm wondering where you had a blister? Was it on your heels? I had planned on wearing moleskin. But if toes blister, then I may have to re-think them. :)
BrerMama
04-10-2004, 04:25 PM
This is just me and my dh's experience, of course, but my heel was rubbed and my dh's toe blistered. I think moleskin would work for my problem (or even thin socks) but he had a nasty blister on his toe (my toes were OK).

UGH. I'm sorry to hear this after ordering for the whole family. I wonder if we break them in with socks if they'd do any better? By the way, in the catalog it does mention that they are good for walkers! I guess I'll wait and try them and if I have a problem like you I'll cancel my kids' order, too since they are also back ordered until May.

These shoes are great. I bought them for both my kids (adult size feet) My 10 year old has a size 11 mens foot. They run very true to size. I like them better than their Tevas because they protect the top of their feet. Sears is not carrying these, but if you buy the wrong size you can return to Sears to save postage.

I wore the Land's End Sea to Shore Sport sandal last year at WDW and they were terrific. I have really high arches, so need the support. My feet were quite comfy when I had them on. But, I do tend to change my footwear once a day. If I think it's going to rain then I wear the sandals. Otherwise, it's a good pair of walking sneakers. My dd, however, wore her sport sandals almost constantly and she was fine.

But, goofy4tink, this was the sandal not the sneaker, correct? I ordered the sneakers instead.

We all just ordered the Land's End Action Sandals, but just wanted to add a tip for women with smaller size feet---I order from the kids' catalog. My size 6-6 1/2 foot fits well in kid's size 5. This works well for tennis shoes too. I save quite a bit on "sport" shoes

Yes, they are sandals. I find I can't wear any type of shoe that isn't a sandal without socks!! And with my high arches, I really need some support. THese particular sandals really fit the bill. Just thought they might be an alternative to the amphibious sneakers.

I got my shoes. They were too big and I usually wear slides so I predicted a problem for me. Hubby liked his and is keeping them for the pool and lake. I don't think he could use these for walking around the parks, though. He has bad feet and these didn't seem to offer much support for him. My Mom also got hers and loves them.
I called and changed my kid's backorder to the pink shoes instead of the black ones. They had them in stock so I should get them soon. I also added to the order the action slide sandals for my girls and me. Thanks to buckeye I ordered the kid size instead this time.
A tip, I had ordered a swimsuit earlier from Lands End that I had to return. I sent it UPS, but now I realize and read you can return things to Sears. If the shoes I ordered don't work I'll do this instead and save the shipping.

For those who want a more 'serious' mesh sneaker than this one, you might want to consider the Helium Ventilator from Merrell: http://www.merrell.com/catalog/gallery.asp?NavID=TR
Also, if you like the idea of a sport sandal, but want more foot coverage and *closed* toes, Keen shoes just might be for you:

I wanted to update about the Lands End sport sandals. I also ordered them in addition to the tennis ones and they are so comfortable! I ordered the slides for my girls and myself. I took the advice posted earlier and ordered the kids' size and saved some money! Only problem - they seemed to me to run a tad small so I ordered more in the next size up. My Mom tired mine and loved it, too. She also ordered the kids' size.
As for the tennis ones I'm still waiting on the girls, but my hubby and Mom keep theirs. I wasn't crazy about them and felt potential for blisters so i returned them.

NotUrsula,
Bought some today for my son and me! They seem comfortable, but I'll need to wear them around the house for a few days to be sure. I paid $90 per pair, so they better be good! I think I'll check the REI website, though to see if I can find a better price. I didn't get your post until just now. Thank you so much for telling us about the Keens--I think they're going to be just the thing I needed!

Just to confirm what the others have said: I ordered a Kid Size 4 and I wear a Women's Size 6. They do tell you to measure your foot and then check their guide for the size, but it's hard to measure your foot as precisely as they say. The differences between sizes were something like an eighth of an inch. The Size 4 works well for me though!

Don't even bother with Lands End measurements. It said I needed like a size 2 or something odd like that! Then I asked the woman at Lands End and she told me I needed a 3. Well, I went with my gut and the size 4 was perfect for me who wears a 5 1/2 to 6 women's shoe. I had also ordered a 5 to be safe and it turned out to be too big. You can now return to Sears, too.
