Chicago has become known for some of its great DIS meets in recent years, lots of DIS'ers, good food, fun, memorable times. ::MickeyMo :happy1: ::MinnieMo If you have never been to one, now is your chance to see for yourself all the fun we have. If you have been to them before, you know what I am talking about. We are looking to again have the Spring Chicago meet at the famous Gino's East (http://featuredfoods.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/a-store/c-GinoAns_East.shtml?E+scstore+ginos) in Rolling Meadows, a northwest suburb of Chicago, very near O'Hare.

So, let's hear your voices, who will be there to enjoy the first Chicago DIS meet of 2004? We have so many DIS'ers in the Chicago area and the surrounding states, amd many I know who have never been to a meet. Give this one a try, I bet you'll love it. I am hearing we again will have out of town visitors coming in for this one. :wave2:

Since I doubt that I'll be up to a long trip by then, sadly I'm going to have to pass on meeting my friends at my favorite pizza place in the world. I will probably be in Columbus (Ohio) that weekend for the State Science Olympiad competition. DD Sarah's team took first place in the regional competition yesterday, so the weekend of April 24th will be spent at Ohio State with some of the brightest middle school students in the state.

Who else will be having fun with us on the 23rd? If you are anywhere nearby, plan on stopping by. I know there are many in the area who have yet to make it to a meet, and meets are fun; ask anybody who has been to one (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=536174&highlight=%2Bmeet). I just saw a program on the Travel Channel last night about New York and Chicago pizza. Gino's East was mentioned prominently. Oh how I wish that I could be there for not only the pizza but all my friends who will be there. Sorry I can't take the video for you Barry.

Unfortunately I will not be able to go. I have been way busy with my second job, (photography), and I am shooting a little league that weekend, 2300+ kids.

Oooh, I wish I could make it. I have open registration for our towns youth football team that night. I'm on the Board and it can get hectic:crazy2: and we always need help. Hey, mariamard, caps are okay, as long as you show up. :teeth: You want to take 294 north to 90 west. Get off 90 at Arlington Heights Road north. Go to the first light (Algonquin/62) and go west (left). Take that to Golf Road (58). Gino's is at Golf/Algonquin intersection, southwest corner mall.

A friend of mine has a brother going through cancer treatment and there is going to be a fund raising dinner dance for him that night. We want to attempt to to both things. So we are coming to Gino's to at least say hi. If dinner is early at the banquet, we will eat at Gino's, otherwise we are just popping in for a few minutes to meet everyone, then it is off to the banquet.

Normally the group orders pizzas and pitchers of soda together and pay as a group on one big tab.

Some of us can't have Pizza - the last time we were at Ginos we just had salads and put in our $$ for that.

It seems to work relatively well, I don't think I've been stuck with a large bill that someone else didn't pay at a DIS meet before....

Yes, Ann, as Jeff said, at a pizza place like this, most have pizza, a few have something else. Easiest is to have those with specials pay their items and take the rest of the bill and divide by the remaining adults (kids eat little). Same for the drinks, usually just pitchers of pop (soda for the out-of-towners), cost shared by all.

If the traffic is backed up on 53, you can get off at the Elgin Ohare, head west to Medinah/Meacham Road and take that north to Golf then head back east on Golf. It does take you a bit out of the way, but it something to consider if it is terrible.
