Cause of new ride

The new Lilo & Stitch ride was made possible by the removal of Alien Encounter.

Alien Encounter was removed, partially or wholly due to numerous complaints that it was 'far too intense'.

Michael Eisner sat through Alien Encounter before it was opened, declared it was too cutsey-pie and ordered the ride engineers to make it more 'intense'.

One addition was the small, fluffy animatronic creature being blown to smithereens at the beginning of the ride :eek:

Suddenly, I can see why he worries people so...

I'm not very into any particular character - that is until I saw Leilo and Stitch. I love that guy. I can't wait for the ride to open and be able to get some adult stitch souvineers. Yay!
That said, I loved Alien Encounter too and will miss it....

I believe it will be a more appropriate addition to the attractions in the Magic Kingdom than was AE.

Now.....if we can just convience management to keep AND promote COP! :)

I LOVED AE, but I know a lot of people didn't. It was originally supposed to be based on the Alien movies, but that got nixed.

I have no problem with Stitch per se, but I don't think it fits in with the supposed theme of tomorrow land. Neither does Buzz.
It really drives me nuts when they screw over the themes so badly. That's part of what makes the place special.


Don't even get me started on on MGM. Hollywood that never was and always will be my fat white behind.

I agree w/ Luv2Roam. I didn't really care for AE. I think that Stitch is an awesome little guy. It would be cool to see that they are putting in a Lilo & Stitch ride. I personally think that the little ones even the parents would like it too. :wave:

Is Stitches Great Escape going to be presented in the same way as AE? Will stitch take the place of the alien inside the tube? Or will they fully restructure it? Will it still be people just sitting in a seat watching the monitor and the tube? Does anyone knows anything about it? :confused:

From what I have seen (artists sketches, promotional material), Stitch is in the tube, and monitors are present. So I think it will be the same format with a new cast of characters and a new not-so-scary tone.

To me AE was a attraction in the wrong park and because of that wasnt scary enough.
The idea of AE was excellant but should have been placed in MGM and not the MK which is more family friendly. And if the ride was put in MGM they could/should have made it much more scary than what it was. It was fun watching young people scream. but for me it wasnt near scary enough.

I thought AE was great (although I had a hard time with them frying Skippy for numerous reasons). But it was way out of place in the MK. It belonged in MGM.

I think Stitch will be a far better attraction here. Plus, I adore Stitch.

My only gripe with AE was the way they fry Skippy. Skippy, for those of you who did not get a chance to see AE, was this adorable little alien animatronic. I mean SO adorable. Definately one that the kids would like and relate to. Then BANG! There goes Skippy. Poor little Skippy....

In my opinion, it was just too intense for kids to see that, and was too much for some adults as well.

I still have my Skippy stuffed animal from like 7 years ago!

I really enjoyed AE. I did not find it very scary and I loved skippy. Is this another WDW character now M.I.A.? I remember Figment coming back for a while. Is he still there? What about Dreamfinder?

My real problem is this. I have been boycotting Disney films since I wasted money on Dinosaur. I was also tortured for 90 minutes watching Monsters Inc. So needless to say, Disney/Pixar means nothing to me either. My point is, now I guess I will have to avoid this new Stitch Encounter or whatever it is. I am dreading whatever they do with Nemo.

Thank God CBJ, Pirates and HM all came out before the movies. But if I see any audio animatronics characters of Johnny Depp or Eddie Murphy, I don't know what I'll do. Argh!

I was very disappointed when I went on AE. I thought it was going to be real intense and scary and I found it terribly boring. I love to get scared and this just didn't do it for me. Maybe a kid would get scared, but I was really looking forward to some real scares and it just didn't provide that. In fact, I think that is what the Magic Kingdom is lacking. I love all the cute stuff but I think they need one could scary the heck out of you dark ride.

But on a positive note, my daughter loves Stitch.

I thought AE was pretty good. Kind of a psychological scare. The funniest thing was that my mom, who seems to be scared of her own shadow, said she pretty much fell asleep in the ride and that it was crappy. Haha. I think if they had based it upon the Alien movies it would have fit at MGM. I agree that TL wasn't the place for it but I thought it was pretty good.

My problem with AE was that I thought it was a one time only attraction. The first time was great, but the only thing I liked about going on after that was taking someone new. After the first time, it was boring.

Figment is back in full force in Journey Into Your Imagination as the rather naughty little dragon who causes all kinds of chaos as you chase him through Nigel Channing's Imagination Institute. Previously in the first version of JIYI, he was only there as a computer graphic 3D character at the start (which he still is) and several static displays later on). He is now back in his AA figure form. They also brought back a newer version of "One Little Spark." He is voiced by someone different now though, since his original voice, Billy Barty, died. DreamFinder wasn't so lucky. He is now JobFinder. Just kidding. I think DreamFinder made a much better companion to the whimsy of Figment, rather than Eric Idle who we know and have seen thousands of times in other things. I don't see Nigel Channing when I look at him, all I can think of is Monty Python.

I am pretty sure they were still selling Skippy stuffed animals at MK when I was there last month. I remember seeing them.

I never saw AE. It seemed like everytime I went there, it was a long line, and not caring much for Aliens, figured it wasn't worth standing in line to see another attraction like Sounds Dangerous. I am looking forward to seeing Stitch's Great Escape. I didn't like Stitch at first, but in seeing more of him, he kinda grew on me. I think it will be a fun romp and it will be good to see Disney spend some decent money (Stitch is supposed to be one of the most advanced AA figures ever created) on something that uses stimulation of the senses to excite and not the body.

AE was scary the first time, but I couldn't really get into it on the second.

The Original Figment ride should never have been messed with. Judging from the speed at which JIYI2 was replaced, lots of people agreed with me.

I would love to see something like the opening sequence to the first stitch movie, where he is on trial, you see hime escape, and you are on a roller-coasterlike ride following him. Not really an option in the space provided, but if I had my druthers....

Pixar was not involved with Lilo & Stitch. Did you even see it? Or do you just hate it because it's "new"? I think Lilo & Stitch is one of the funniest animated films Disney has done in a long time.

Pixar was also not involved with Dinosaur.

And whether you hate Pixar for some odd reason or not, Finding Nemo is a wonderful family film, that touches upon the love of a father for his son. How anyone can dislike a movie like that, is beyond me.

So I'm curious, can you point out some specific reasons why you dislike each of the following films. These reasons should reflect the film itself, and not just some ideology that the old films are great and the new ones are awful. :

Lilo & Stitch
Finding Nemo
Monster's Inc
Dinosaur

Did you also hate Toy Story 1 & 2 ? Those were Pixar. As was a Bugs Life. You didn't mention Emporer's New Groove, Atlantis, Treasure Planet, any of the sequels, Brother Bear or....well how far back does your hatred of the new go? It's obviously not just Pixar you don't like, since you didn't like L&S and Dino.
