Disney's Mitchell says board to oversee strategy
Thursday March 11, 2:21 pm ET

WASHINGTON, March 11 (Reuters) -
Newly elected Walt Disney Co. (NYSE:DIS - News) Chairman George Mitchell said on Thursday that the embattled company board would help develop strategy and continue planning for a successor to Chief Executive Michael Eisner.

"We will continue a formal review of succession, covering all high executive positions, including that of chief executive officer," Mitchell told lawyers during a luncheon speech about a week after the board named him chairman. The board has said it supports Eisner but wants to be ready when he retires.

Substantial numbers of shareholders at the annual meeting had opposed Eisner's and Mitchell's reelection to the board, leading directors to strip the chairmanship from Eisner and give it to Mitchell, in an attempt to improve oversight of management.

I feel the George Mitchell is a bland pompus person with little concern for the long term future of Disney.Disney is rudderless.

::MickeyMo "Well hi there everybody!"

From that news article it sounds like Mitchell was also heavily opposed.

Why on earth was HE given the post then?

To me, that's just wrong.

He received the 2nd highest "withhold" vote, after Eisner. 24%. Two percentage points higher than Steve Case, who ultimately resigned from AOL/TW after his 22% "withhold" vote.
