After the talk we had of the blond-haired shark in DTD, I decided I would prepare a lanyard for the August trip just to serve as a diversion and taunting device for these particular people. So, what'd'ya think ? Would this be enough to get the sharks into a feeding frenzy, just so I can tell 'em that I'm not interested ?

http://www.wdwinfo.com/sites/wvrevy/sharkbait.jpg

PS...In fact, all of these really are tradeable, with two exceptions. The pin on the left showing the tree of life is a first anniversary AK pin, and my DW would probably skin me alive if I traded it :) The other "non-tradeable" is the WDW PTP, 'cause we had to hunt so friggin' hard to find one :)

So, what do you guys think ? Good idea or not ?

Don't say you're "not interested" in trading with them.

You have to look over their pins and then say with utmost disdain, "There's nothing here worth trading for."

Of course, I still like my suggestion too.

We set up some fake trades among DIS members, where we "trade" Mickey for Presidents and Jail Scenes for rack pins. But when our little friends tries to hone in on the action, we brush her off.

LOL...I'm up for that Robyn...

"What's that ? You want my LE 1000 CM Cruise Line Compass Pin ? For your Roger Rabbit pin from the Disney Store? SURE ! Wow, I can't believe I was lucky enough to find one of those !"

Sound like a plan ?

We need a few more "players" and then we got a game!

Can we trade spinners for Millenium 101 pins?

Anybody have access to a "Pin Cam" . Pin with mini video camera to record their faces as they scope out the lanyards? Those pictures would be worth a million dollars.

What a GREAT idea!!! I would love to see this! After you guys have made your 'wonderful' trades, you should run over to another DISer and 'brag' about your trades... While jumping up and down, of course!

"Look at this great Roger Rabbit Pin!!!" :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I wanna Play I wanna Play!!!!!!!! HEHE We could stand there and offer a really nice pin first and have the other say ummmmm No, I already have that one then they point to some rack pin and say but your know I don't have that one how about that...HEHE They would just die... We couldn't do it to many times though or they might catch on...

Have to ask you though what is the pin in the lower left? You know you are only the second person i have seen that has that special activities pin... That was one of my first trades and still one of my favs..... HEHE :pinkbounc

That looks like the Guest Service Fanatic 25 pin, Figgy. I think that was an MGM pin given to CM's who had 25 Guest Service Fanatic cards, right? Something like that.

Yep, Dar's got it right :) From what I understand, the 25/50/75 pins are awarded to CM's when they get 25/50/75 good comment cards from guests. There is also a new 100 Guest Service Fanatic pin, and that is limited only to MGM, but I'm not sure if the others are or not.

Oh how I wish I could jump in on those "trades" too!! I've had several unpleasant shark encounters, so this would be too much fun!!

Other than the usual bad trades, I had one incident about a year ago that took away a lot of the fun of pin trading for me. I was at EPCOT at night with my son, wearing my lanyard, when out of nowhere a man walked up to me, shined a flashlight up and down my lanyard, then mumbled something like "hrrupmf" and walked away! He never even looked at my face!!! I felt totally violated. Ever since then, I won't wear a lanyard unless I feel safe, like at a DIS meet. It's too bad, really, because I know I'm missing out on a lot of trading opportunities. But I just can't bring myself to take a chance on being in that kind of situation again.

So, go forth good friends, and "trade" away! heehee Even without a Pin-Cam, I can imagine the looks on the sharks faces! Ahhhh, sweet satisfaction! :)

When DH goes to DTD to the Wonderful World of Disney, I won't even go in the trading room with him. I just sit on the floor in the next room and rest and keep my pinbag in my backpack out of sight...Once i forgot to take off my lanyand and some of the people actually leaned down to look at my feeble lanyard.

We don't have a PINCAM but we do have a PENCAM that DH purchased from QVC and it fits right in your pocket and you download the pictures to your computer.

I could really do this. I am so into it. Oh what a idea. When, where and I will be there with Jail Scene and Haunted Mansion Dangle on.

I could tell them I am looking for the disney store Dalamation award pins.

I would be very surprise if anyone has them. And if they do I would just say Oh I have that color.:bounce: :pinkbounc :bounce: :pinkbounc :bounce: :pinkbounc :bounce: :pinkbounc :bounce: :pinkbounc

I always refer to WOD trading as "swiming with sharks". We could really disrupt the goings on one night! I've gotta be in on this!

Lisa, JudySue,

Please hold on to the two pins you mentioned. I know I have two pins that you would love to trade yours for! I have these adorable little matched pair -- a Pooh and a Piglet! You'll love 'em! :)

Just practicing for the Sharkfest. ;) :jester: ;)

Ok I know who a lot of the sharks are at downtown disney. I am sure they would recognize me.

I could either be the one with the crappy pins on my lanyard or have some very good pins on my l lanyard.

I think we should play it both ways.
But of course include them.

Oh you don't have anything I want. he he

I just had a (long-distance phone call, 9:45am, June 30th) report from RweTHEREyet in Animal Kingdom regarding the blond-haired lady! As RweTHEREyet and her FAMILY were walking toward the pin cart, she saw the infamous lady hanging around. As the family passed her, RweTHEREyet asked her DH if he had their extra Jail Scene trader with him (although they don't really own one). With that, the blond-haired lady RUSHED over to INTERRUPT this private conversation and started asking, "Have you got one?! Have you got one?!" The family kept walking and the lady kept following, asking about the pin, wanting to know which one - the gold one or the silver one. RweTHEREyet played dumb, saying that she had one, but she must have left it in the room. The blond-haired lady was INSISTANT, wanting to know where she could meet them later to trade for it, even telling them she would be in line for the pin event at 10pm in a white van and for them to find her. The lady followed the family around for quite awhile, trying DESPERATELY to set up a meeting for that pin! RweTHEREyet was quite pleased with herself for creating such an unsolicited reaction from that lady and wanted y'all to know! :)

You know, being a registered Pin Shark myself, I'm very disturbed by this thread. Many of you just don't realize just how difficult a life we sharks lead, going to the parks every day at around 7am. Sometimes I even have to get up at 5am so I can cut in line at pin events before anyone who knows me shows up.

Duping unsuspecting guests is not as easy as it sounds. It takes patience and a lot of effort -- some of them are actually smart!!! I mean, it's not what it used to be, when a simple dismissal got a positive reaction. I actually have to WORK at it! Even the young children have wizened up.

And do you REALIZE just how HEAVY my enormous pin book is?? What a pain, lugging that thing around. It's also such a nuisance to keep all the pins separated, bagged, and pocketed so that a guest will have a difficult time stealing from my book while I'm stealing from theirs.

And on top of everything else, I think the park managers have it in for me. Despite my efforts they still haven't awarded me the Continuing The Tradition pin, although I think I'm making progress.

So the next time you complain about sharks, please keep in mind just how much effort we have to expend to bring this service to you. Thank you.

The timing could not have been more perfect. I basically saw her going from pin cart to pin cart and lanyard to lanyard, making her morning rounds. It was early in themorning andn ot many other people around

Since I do not have a lot of great traders, I could not have pulled off pretending to trade something great for a common rack pin. When I saw our shark walking very close behind us, all I could think of doing was to pretend to have something. So, I asked hubby if he brought our "extra" jail scene trader with him that day. He says, "what pin are you talking about?" She literally jumps into the middle of our conversation and says "You know, there is a gold and a silver and it is the hottest pin out there. Are you going to the pin event, do you have it with you, we will be in the white van at the front of the line, going there at 10:30, come to the van and we can trade, you know I have over 10,000 pins. " All the while I was walking away from her and basically ignoring what she was saying. She kept following and trying to engage in more conversation--I just couldn't be bothered. She was salivating. When she realized I was not going to talk to her anymore, she basically left saying, to be sure and find her in the parking lot on Sunday morning.

Have to say I enjoyed this little experience. I shared my story with a few people while down at WDW, and they all seemed to know who she is and they enjoyed her getting a little "comeupance". I know you southerners out there know what that means.

is this lady on the shorter side and on the older side (of 40, that is!)? if so, she's the one who couldn't be bothered to trade a louie rack pin with my 7yo because she "already had that one" (the dewie my son was trying to trade with). yet, there her books stood open with about 5 mickey for presidents and that and more of the inauguration mickey. i was SO angry with her that all i could do was say in a loud voice to my son, "don't bother with that trader...she's not the kind of person i want you trading with."

even now, i get angry! if she's the target, i'd love to get in on this event...i have a newsman mickey pin (#3828), a hm dangle, the dcl compass pin, and probably a couple others that i could dredge up as shark bait.

Ok who want to go to downtown disney with me and make a couple trades. I could bring the good or the rack pins.
We have to have a plan. We have to act dumb. The only thing I don't know if I will be able to keep a straight face.
And you know it is impolite to interupt someone when they are trading with someone. They will have to wait their turn and we will make sure all the good pins are gone. Hee Hee.
