AAA Park Hopper upgrade to AP value? [Archive] - The DIS Discussion Forums

This year my DS becomes an adult (in the eyes of Disney) and I have to get him an adult Annual Pass. I know if you buy a Park Hopper Plus pass you can upgrade it to an Annual Pass getting credit for the value of the Park Hopper, but just how does Disney determine value? I can buy a 6 day php for my son at AAA for $271. When I get to WDW and seek to have his php upgraded, will they credit the upgrade at the window price for the php or
the AAA price?

The value of all Disney ticket media is encoded by Disney onto the magnetic strip on the back of the ticket. This is true even when the tickets are purchased from non-Disney sources.

The policy states that the price is based on the encoded value of the ticket. There have been some instances however of CM's doing the upgrades at gate valuation rather than purchase valuation but I wouldn't set my hopes on that as an option.
