Is it ok to trade "dated" pins?

I am new to this whole pin trading thing but I think dd4 will enjoy it when we go in Sept. I saw Xmas 2003 pins for sale ($5.99 for 4 pins) at disneystore.com & am wondering if it ok to buy these for trading? Is that considered politically incorrect to trade "old" pins?

One more question - Can you trade pins in WDW that say DL on them?

Definitely! They'll do just fine. As long as the pin is backstamped c)Disney it is tradeable in the parks. The only exception is if a cast member already has a pin like it on their lanyard.
