This information about the G-8 Summit being held in Sea Island Georgia June 8-10 might be of interest. It looks like Savannah is going to be a base for a lot of the press and could effect plans for traveling from Savannah to HHI.

Here's a link to the thread already in progress

We'll be in HH from 6/6-11. Looks like we'll be driving through some congestion on our way in and out:rolleyes: . Thanks for letting us know!

BWMickey is the one who was smart enough to look into this. I really had no idea this was taking place in the U.S. this year.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure glad that we'll already be back home from HH by then.

We are flying into Savanah on June 5 and arriving at Hilton Head June 6. Needing a room in Sav on June 5, I already found availibilty to be short and expensive. Thanks for the info

Try Hotwire or Priceline. Both are very useful. The companion site biddingfortravel.com is also helpful.

I have always gotten a great deal and a great room on priceline.

Thanks for the info Pam. I'm relieved we're gonna miss this (I hope). We check out of HH on May 28. Though I'm thinking we might hit some extra traffic due to preparations for the summit---extra security and all ?

Pam, thanks for the heads up. We fly into Jacksonville on the 3rd - head to Charleston and then check into HHDVC on the 6th - leaving on the 12th. Nice to be forwarned.

That is our anniv. week and we always seem to be in HHI at that time. I would check the news before taking a trip to Sav. You would not want to be there if the anarcist are there protesting.

I noticed that the summit itself will be held at Sea Island, GA which is quite a ways away from Savannah-it's off the southernmost coast of GA..the press is staying in Savannah though..I don't know why so far away.
Regardless I had no plans really to go to Savannah anyway, but I'm hoping the protesters and all that brouhaha will be in Sea Island, not Savannah..
