This is our first cruise, yea!!!
I will be cruising with my daughter and my 3 grandchildren. This is a very special cruise for us and really needs all the "pixie" dust we can get. When I get home I will need to begin "Kemo" treatments, so I want this to be a cruise for my family to "remember". I think my 3 grandchildren would like to know someone before they leave, so hope maybe someone will be able to answer this.
Dustin is just turning 10 in May, he like computer games, gameboy, magic.
Tyler is 7--he likes his gameboy, soccer and just having a good time.
Ashley will turn 5 on the cruise and like princesses and all things little girls like.
Thanks for letting me ramble, it keeps my mind busy. I love these boards they have become like friends, even though I've never met any of you. You brighten my days. thanks

:wave2: I have been checking everyday for May 23rd Wonder and finally found someone else that is going. We have 4 children. DS15,DS13,DS11,DD8. Although there is a year and 3 months difference in age, his interests are the same as Dustins.
This will be our first also. We can't wait!!!!!! :Pinkbounc I am like you...these boards are great!!!!:teeth: I know that you dread chemo treatments, but at least you do not have to take them before your trip.(if that is any consolation) :happy1: I know that our cruise will be here before we know it!!!!!!:cool1: Maybe we will see you there!!! I quess we will have a lot of room to spread out since no one else seems to be going.

Would one or 2 or your sons like to e-mail and talk to my 2 grandchildren to get to know each other before the cruise?

Dustin--just turning 10 and Tyler 7

My 11 year old would love to email your grandsons. I will have him do this over the next few days, as our computer is pretty much off limits to my children, unless I am able to keep an eye on them while they are online. Call me over protective!! Thanks...Carol36:wave:

We will be there too!!! Our first Disney cruise and first cruise ever for our DDs.

Me-36
DH-40
DD- will be one month shy of 9 when we cruise
DD- will have just turned 6 when we cruise.

Our girls love anything to do with princesses. They love jewelry, reading, swimming and dressing up.

We will be staying at the Radisson the night before. We do not have to travel far but we wanted to have a leisurely morning before boarding.

We hope to meet you all!! God's blessings to you!!

Carol36

My DD, who will be about 3 weeks shy of 9 when we cruise, has the same interests as your daughters!! As you have probably read, we also have 3 DSs, 15, 13, 11. I am 36 and DH39, but by the time our cruise gets here, we will have to add 1 to each!!!:( Can you believe that we are now in double digits now!!!!!! I guess it's time to :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Tiggergranny...my son will try to email tomorrow.

We hope to meet all of you, also.

As it gets closer, we should setup a time and place to meet onboard so we won't miss each other. I know my daughters would love to have a buddy. Let's keep in touch!

Carol, when is your DD's birthday? Mine will turn 9 on June 21.

Are either of you staying at the Radisson on May 22?

I can't believe it is getting so close!! We booked in April 2003 so it has been a long wait.

Carol36
02-16-2004, 08:14 PM
We are staying at Ron Jon Resort instead of Radisson. We had a room on hold there until I saw all that Ron Jon's has to offer. Wow! We are going to leave early and relax on the 22nd. Ron Jon's is only about 6 miles from the port.

SEASTAR, my DD's BD is June 14. I forgot to mention that my sister and her family are coming, also. She has DS10, DS9, andDD(6 on March 26). We should schedule a time before the cruise to meet onboard! That would be fun.

We can't wait!!!:teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

I told my daughters about the other girl cruisers and they are excited!! My girls will be separated in the clubs so they are looking forward to meeting other girls their age.

We need to pick a place and time to meet on the first day. I will see what other cruisers have done but if anyone has a good idea that will be great.

This is fun!!!

On a thread on the cruise forum, many people think the Promenade Lounge is a great place to meet. For a 4-day, someone suggested 3pm on embarkation day(Sunday). That way the kids can meet right away. One drawback to this is how busy it is on the first day. Anyway, it is one idea we can think about. We are planning on arriving at the port at 10:30 so we should have everything (lunch, ressies, unpacking, swimming) done by 3:00.

I think meeting the first day is the best, I will be looking forward to it.
I have a question, my grandaughter Ashley will turn 5 on the cruise, she loves the princesses so we are going to leave her with the 3-4 ages because I think that is the only place they have one on one with the princesses. What age is your 6 year old going into?
94 days and counting.:bounce: :Pinkbounc

My DD6 is going in the 5-7 group. She loves princesses too so we are hoping she will get to see many of them. We will definitely attend the princess party.

We should make firm plans for the meet as it gets closer. I cannot wait!!!!:earsboy:

:) 3:00 on embarkation day sounds great to me! We are planning on being there around 10:30 that morning also. . Seastar, my DN6 will also be in the 5-7 group. She loves the same things that your daughters love. My DD8 is also excited and wondered if she could email your DDs. What princess party are you refering to and when is it?

Tiggergranny, my DS is enjoying emailing your DGSs. He is really looking forward meeting them on the first day.

I understand that the princess party is a time to take pictures and get autographs from all the princesses. It is usually in the morning one day in the Atrium Lobby. Many report that this is VERY popular and people begin to line up about 1/2 hour before. I know my girls would be in heaven to see all the princesses so we plan on attending. The Navigators will give all the specific info for our cruise.princess: princess: princess: princess:

:wave2: seastar...Thanks for the infor on the princess party. My DD and DN will be thrilled with this. We will plan to attend this event! On the other hand, my DSs will be nowhere to be seen!

Can you believe that we have been in double-digits for 10 days already?!?!?!

I keep thinking the same thing Carol!!! I went to disney.com and put in our date and only a Cat 4 came up as available. I think that may mean the cruise is pretty full but I am not sure. I do know one thing for sure: We will have fun no matter how empty or full the ship is!!!!

If there are any other Dis Boarders out there who are sailing on the May 23 Wonder please say hello!!!

I cannot wait to meet all of you!!!

Carol36
02-28-2004, 10:49 AM
When I look at other sailing dates, there are multiple pages of people going on the same cruise! Maybe we will have the ship all to ourselves!:teeth:
I know that my family is so excited and can't wait!!!:bounce:
I have read the threads about teenagers and how much fun they have. That is a relief because we have 2.

I guess we will have only three families for our DIS meet!::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo We will have fun regardless, but the more the merrier!:sunny:

seastar...Sorry that my daughter has not emailed yours. We need to make the time to do this soon.

If there is anyone elso out there that is sailing May 23, we would love to know!:)

We (My girlfriend and me) will also be on the May 23 cruise! It will be our first cruise, and even our first visit to Florida (and WDW), so we're pretty excited! :bounce:

Hi Jeroenalex!!!

It is great to hear you will be with us on the Wonder!!! You will probably get the prize for traveling the longest distance! We live in Florida and have been to WDW many times but this is our first Disney Cruise!!!

It looks like you have a great trip planned!!! ::MickeyMo

Carol36
03-14-2004, 11:54 PM
Welcome Jeroenalex!

I think that the long trip will be worth every minute of magic! WDW is so much fun and we keep going back once or twice a year! Everything on the DIS board assures me that DCL is just as exciting and magical as WDW! We can't wait!!!

Carol36

jeroenalex
03-17-2004, 02:18 PM
Any idea where I can claim the prize for travelling the longest distance? And what exactly is the prize, a free flight to Florida the next time I'll go to WDW? :teeth:

Looks like there will be alot of first-time cruisers on 'our' cruise! I'm reading more and more posts on the DISboards every day, so I guess on the departure day I'll know everything there is to know.

By the way, I've read alot about Atlantis now.. Looks like it's worth a visit! Has anyone else also got plans to pay this resort a visit?

seastar
03-17-2004, 05:18 PM
We are not planning any excursions. DH and I have been to Nassau before so we only plan on taking the girls to the straw market. We want to spend as much time onboard as possible. I have read opinions of Atlantis and many people have enjoyed visiting there. It may be worth checking out.

Don't you just love the DIS Boards!!!! :p

Carol36
03-17-2004, 08:14 PM
Hey everyone!:wave2: We are not planning on doing any excursions. We had planned to do the Stingray/Blue Lagoon, but not after reading the advice on the Dis boards. What I have gathered is that since we are on the 4-day, we need to spend all the time we can just enjoying the ship. We may do what you are doing seastar, as we are budgeting for this just in case we decide to go to the straw market. It may be that we are having so much fun, we may not want to leave the ship. What do you all think? Is it worth getting off? We would also love to see Atlantis Resort, but we would also love to enjoy all this resort has to offer and would have to rent a room. This would run in to way too much $$$$$ because we would probably have to rent 2 rooms since there are 6 of us! Thanks to you all!

:D Carol36

seastar
03-17-2004, 09:58 PM
You have the right idea, Carol!! If it was up to me, I would just stay on the boat but our girls want to walk around Nassau a bit. With only 4 days onboard, I think there will be PLENTY to do!!!

There is a great article on Mousesavers about how to get the most value out of the 4-day. I found it interesting:

http://www.mousesavers.com/morecruise.html

Hey Jeroenalex: Are you or have you been a CM at Disneyland Paris?

Carol36
03-18-2004, 10:52 PM
Thanks for that link seastar! The info there will be helpful in planning our time onboard! ::yes:: We can decide later whether we want to "check out" Nassau. Since none of us have been, it may be worth the trip. I had read about a place called Cable Beach at Crystal Palace.(I think that is the name of the beach.) It sounds sooo beautiful. The only problem with going there is that will take up part of our day.

I make our final payment tomorrow!!!!! :Pinkbounc

Hey everybody!

We are close to the two month mark!!!:teeth: Can you believe that?!?! I am planning our days by looking at the Navigators and reading everything that I can. Does anyone have the Passporter for DCL? If so, do you think that it would be worth ordering that? Thanks!

 Carol36

seastar
03-22-2004, 09:06 AM
HI!

I have the 2003 Passporter. It is a great book! Most of the info can be found on the boards but with the book you have it all in one place. I have read through it twice and plan on reading it again before our cruise. Carol, you seem to know a lot about DCL but I think you would enjoy reading the Passporter.

I am also looking at the Navigators. It was great to see them from a recent cruise.

Hello Everyone! :wave2:

Thanks for inviting me over. I am so looking forward to this cruise and already wanting to plan one for next year.

It will be myself (39) and my DS10 and DD11. Both enjoyed the Camp Carnival on last year's Oct. cruise but they only had about 20 kids total in the camp for the kids to play with on that cruise. My kids are so excited about the Disney's camp on this cruise and that there will be more kids to meet. I printed them a navigator from ***************** and they are already planning on what they want to do. So much to do it seems.

I look forward to meeting with y'all.

We tried to send you a private message but your mom's profile will not accept private messages. We have late dinner seating. I requested this. Seeing the shows first is what we want, also. I feel that there are probably more requests for early seating and smaller children at that time. Since my youngest is 8, I figured that the late seating will have more older children. We shall see!!!:)

If you all decide to meet somewhere please post as I know my daughters would appreciate seeing a familiar face in the clubs as well.

We have first seating for dinner. We didn't think little DD could hold out until 8:30 or nine. We usually eat by 6:00 at home so we are earlybirds....haha.

We are going to spend time only in the Magic Kingdom, her favorite park! We requested the Dalmatian building (she loves them!) so I sure hope we get it.
seastar-we live in Dunedin/Palm Harbor area, not too far at all! We are definately interested in meeting and introducing the kids, sounds like a nice way for them to start off. Hi everybody!:wave2: Welcome, Deweysgirl! I'm Angie (gamom). Your children are younger than my DD12 and DS13. but I look forward to meeting you, and everyone else in the Promenade Lounge at 3:00pm.

We have the late dining by request. Our children are older so this allows us to steal a few more hours of play time in the late afternoon and hit the showers at about 6:00pm. I don't think it matters what time you eat dinner, just personal preference. Disney has the schedule very well organized so you can see the show and then eat dinner or visa versa. Last time my daughter would have a piece of pizza by the pool at 5:00pm and by 8:30 she was hungry enough for dinner, but not starving.

We are also staying at the Radisson on Saturday night. We have two daughters: one will be one month shy of her ninth birthday when we cruise and the other is 6.

We are looking forward to meeting you and Lizzy! Maybe we can meet at the Radisson by the pool.

Greytlady: Thanks for the list of kids!! Great idea!

We would like to meet your family at the Raddison pool on the 22nd (if you want to). We will arrive around 6:00 pm EST. I also have two other daughters (16 & 13) so Lizzy doesn't have a play mate her age. She would like to meet other girls her age.

DarleneSutton :wave2: I would like to welcome you to our group. My children are around the ages of yours, but the oldest ones are boys.
greytlady My oldest DS will be almost 16 on his first cruise. I am thinking(hoping) that he will have a great time.

I read on another thread where one group plan on meeting the evening before cruise for dinner at Grill's. What do you all think?
This is something to think over.:D

Hi Carol,

We plan on arriving at the Radisson in the early afternoon so we would be up to an early dinner at Grills. If we time it right, we can watch the Magic sail away!!! I guess that would mean dinner around 5 or 5:30. Is that too early? Do you know if they take reservations? I didn't see anything about that on their website.
The menu looks good-something for everyone.

:wave2: seastar! We plan on arriving early afternoon to Ron Jon's, also. Dinner at 5 or 5:30 sounds perfect to me! That is the time that I had in mind. I am not sure if Grill's takes reservations. The menu does have a good variety. Watching the "Magic" sail away is one of the reasons I would love to have dinner at Grill's. This would be a perfect start to a magical vacation!

Hi, we are only about 30-45 min. from the cruise but would love to come up to Grills to meet everyone for supper and an early "greet". 5-5:30 sounds great.

I will call today to see if they take reservations and will let you know.

What time does the Magic sail out?

seastar
03-30-2004, 12:21 PM
It would be great to see you at Grills, TiggerGranny.

I assumed that the Magic sails away at the same time as the Wonder-usually between 5-5:30. Maybe we should meet right at 5:00 so we will be sure not to miss it.

I called Grills today, and they will take reservations for groups of 8 or more (that's pretty much yours and mine).

If anyone would like to go let me know and when it get's closer I will call and make the reservation, if this is okay with everyone.

Wow only 54 days to go!!!!

Hello everyone! I would love to join the group at Grilles but I'll have to let you know as the time gets closer. We are driving down from the north side of Atlanta. It's about an 8 hour trip so we'd have to be out the door by 8:00am. Shouldn't be a problem. We usually leave very early whenever we drive to Fl.

:wave2: Hi everyone!

Been away for a week, and wow, our group has doubled in size I believe! We won't be in the Raddisson, so Grills wil be a little difficult.. But we'll probably meet everyone aboard :)

Oh, and greytlady, for your group-list: We (Me and my GF) are both 21, and no kids. But maybe we're still al bit kids ourselves :teeth:

And to seastar: Yes, I'm a CM in Disneyland Resort Paris. Or actually, not IN DLRP, but on the Press Department of the Dutch office.

Less than 8 weeks to go! (But who's counting).

:D Deweysgirl, We had considered the Stingray City/ Blue Lagoon Beach Day for the longest time. We decided to "make the most" of our first cruise by enjoying all the "Wonder" has to offer. We may look around the straw market or even visit Atlantis for a bit.

It sounds like our meet at Grill's is set. We are looking forward to meeting all of you that evening or the next afternoon on the "Wonder".:happy1: :happy1: :happy1: :happy1: :happy1:

WOW!!!!!!This is great, I think we met our minimum of 8 for reservations at Grills, if anyone else wants to go let me know?

I will call and get reservations this week-end with the understanding that I can add or subtract if needed up until the last minute. I will ask for tables by the window and hope for the best.

I will also post this again closer to the date in case plans change.

My grandkids are getting so excited to be writing to new friends and my daughter is excited just because they are "writing". Just another way of learning, by the way my daughter is a teacher, she use to home school until things in her life changed recently.

Great to have you back Jeroenalex---if you want nametags send me your names and I will be glad to make them. You can pm if you want.

I just love surprises!!!:) Anyone else with teenagers planning to book this for yours? For my other two children, I am planning on surprising them with a basket from "The Perfect Gift". Carol, your boys will have so much fun!!!

We are not doing gift baskets but I have a few surprises for our girls. These ideas may also work for your DD. For the Princess Greeting, I got them princess t-shirts and princess purses on sale at the Disney store months ago. The purses are filled with little princess trinkets. For Castaway Cay, I bought them each a cute sandtoy set from Dollar Tree. I also plan on getting two Disney pillowcases to get signed. We will give them those on the last day as a special keepsake of the cruise.

For your son, you could put in his favorite snacks/drinks, items from his favorite sports team, sunglasses or a towel.

Have fun planning the baskets!!! :D

Carol36
04-02-2004, 01:08 PM
seastar...thanks! I love the ideas you gave. The pillowcase is something I would love to do for my DD and my DSs would probably like one, even if it is just for a keepsake.

I think that doing something without us, will be sooo good for the boys. We do everything together, so this will be something different!

How is everything going with everyone else? :D

Now on to more fun stuff---only 46 days to go.

We are also doing pillowcases for DGD, but we are doing white t-shirts for the 2 boys.

Also bringing small gifts for everyone, including daughter.

I called DCL's Castaway Club # to book my shore excursions on CC. My DH and DD12 are doing the Bottom Fishing, and all four of us are doing the Banana Boat ride. They immediately faxed me me a reservation sheet for these. We are still undecided about shore excursions in Nassau. :sunny:

Hello everyone!!

Carol: I am going with Bonine because that seems to be the one most people on the boards use. I believe it makes you less sleepy than Dramamine. I am not sure if I will give the girls anything. I will speak with their doctor before we leave.

Deweysgirl: I just sent you a PM. It would be great for the girls to e-mail each other.

We booked with AAA. Their price was the same as all the others including DCL. I booked during a sale week so we will receive a shipboard credit. We also will receive the soda mugs for free but I do not think we will use them much.

I have received the excursion info. We are not doing any excursions because we just want to enjoy the ship. No docs yet but it shouldn't be long!!!

Hi everybody, surprised by grandkids with a long week-end away in Orlando. Stayeed at a hotel something like Ron-Jon's in Cocoa.

They had so much going on for the kids we didn't leave the hotel very much.

We did go over to Sea World, but only to play in the kids area for a couple of hours and get our free supper (we had 4 free meals that expired this month).

We also went shopping for a little while to two Disney Character outlets and got some great "Buys". Best buy a large Disney scrapbook, 3 ring, with paper and stickers already in it for $5.99. It was marked down from $39.99 because it says 2003 on it, like I care for that price.

Thanks everybody for being happy about my "good news", it has sure made life a lot nicer in the past 2 weeks. Still need to keep watching but that's okay.

Welcom Ragdoll, please plan to come to our Meet on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. I will e-mail you all the particulars.

Came home and updated the calendar WOW only 41 days to go!!!

GAMOM--we booked through the same TA as you, did you use a Disney Visa? I am still trying to figure out why it's not Disney Visa that gives the Onboard Credit instead of the TA?

Have a great day everyone---and yes I'm packing as I hit things I want to take too. Told my daughter and the kids if it doesn't fit in to a bag we don't get to take it. We had so many things in our hand checking in and out this week-end, it was redicularlour (sp).

Sorry it's so long but I missed everyone and wanted to bring you up to speed on what we've been doing.

My grandkids will get letters out this week--keep an eye out for them.

Carol36
04-12-2004, 12:41 PM
tiggergranny... :wave2: I am glad that you are back and doing well! I love going to those Disney outlets! This time, I will have to wait until after we cruise! I guess your weekend was sort of a celebration for your good news!:D

I thought about the soda mugs, but decided against those. For one thing, they would have to drink lots of soda in between their meals, which wouldn't be good. We do not drink soda very often, but they are only allowed one a day when we do. This cruise will be an exception to the rule. They can have them at meals.

seastar... Can I get Bonine over the counter? Let me know what your doctor says about the children taking it. :earsgirl:

Read the information on this but was not exactly able to picture it.

How fast do they really go? My GS's are 7 and 10, so I quess my daughter would have to go with them and she's not much of a "thrill seeker".

We are not doing any excursions or going on shore at Nassau, just want to stay on ship and enjoy and relax.

Hi everyone!!

TiggerGranny: It sounds like you had a great weekend. What a wonderful grandma you are!!!

GaMom: Do they put a sticker on your card or just give you the AAA mug? I know if all we get is the mug we will not use it at all because we do not want to lug it around. We do not drink much soda. But hey, it's free so I will take it!!

Carol: Bonine is available over the counter. I will let you know what the doctor says about the kids taking it. I believe Bonine states it is not for kids under 12 but a 1/2 of the pill may be OK. Hopefully, we will have smooth seas and no seasickness but I want to be prepared.

Time is ticking away... :Pinkbounc

Hello! :wave2:

Seastar, AAA gives you the mug, not a sticker on your card. It makes a good souvenier anyway!

Tiggergranny, I didn't know about the Disney Visa when I booked. I used my American Express card, so at least I'll get the points for that. I wish I had found this forum sooner!

Concerning sea sickness, I have been on a 90 foot boat that made everyone on board very sick, but cruise ships don't bother me at all. You will feel the boat swaying, but it was a different kind of motion than the smaller boat.

I am only about 5 minutes away from them so I will pick them up later on this afternoon. My TA did not say anything about an upgrade so I guess we are still in Cat 11. I don't really care just as long as I am on the Disney cruise!!!!

Had some back trouble today (yesterday), doctor gave me 2 shorts, and of course I slept all day.

It is now 2:22 a.m. so it is officially 37 days to Cruise Day.

I am so excited, my daughter and grandkids can't seem to talk about any thing else (that's what makes it so great)

Well I have a few other things to do yet, then maybe try hitting the bed again.

:o    :wave2: :wave2:

Yes, We are excited!!!

I don't think my kids know quite what to expect as this is their first cruise. They are going to be so surprised when the see the HUGE SHIP.

TiggerGranny: You take care of yourself and try to relax and get some rest. We cannot have you feeling poorly!!! :sunny:

Thanks for your kind words Seastar. I'm not quite ready to do the "pink & green" bounce but I am doing okay---I don't let anything get me down for long, I always have too many pots going at once.

There may be "bigger" boats in when we go, but we know none of them are as great as "ours".

See you all soon.

Hi everyone!

I've just been reading all posts in the last weeks, as I've not had time to do it earlier.. Our cruise is getting really close now, can't believe it will only be 29 days before we'll be on our way to Florida and 36 days before we will embark :sunny:

We have still so many things to arrange.. I'm still not sure whether we should take the DCL bus or a towncar from WDW to Port Canaveral, and I'm also wondering if it would be worth getting a room at Comfort Suites to be able to enjoy everything Atlantis has to offer.. Choices, choices..

Anyway, we still have a month to decide :teeth:

Hi all!!

My DD5 fell at the playground and broke her wrist today. She has a hard splint and will need to get a cast later on this week. The cast will be on from 4-6 weeks so she may still have it on the cruise.:(

Normal insurance does not cover a waterproof cast but we can get her one if we pay $15. We will definitely get that for her. It will be the best $15 I'll ever spend!!

I know we will all have a blast on the cruise no matter what!!!

DCLADDICT
04-19-2004, 07:58 AM
:) :bounce: THIS WILL BE #3. OUR FIRST CRUISE WAS JUST DW AND I, AND ON THE SECOND WE TOOK THE WHOLE FAMILY. IN FACT, MY DD WANTED ME TO GO BOOK OUR NEXT CRUISE BEFORE WE HAD EVEN LEFT PORT CANAVERAL ON THAT CRUISE! WE REALLY LOVE THE ATMOSPHERE AND THE FACT THAT THE FAMILY CAN BE TOGETHER AND SEPERATE TO DO THEIR OWN THING IF THEY WANT. ALSO THE SAFETY AND SECURITY WE HAVE FELT ON THE SHIP. THANKS FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL WELCOMES!!!

Seastar,
I'm so sorry to hear about your DD's wrist. My daughter broke her arm last year. I never want to go through that again. It's a good thing kids bounce back so quickly. I'm sure she'll get extra attention from the CMs on ship. Maybe Mickey can sign her cast.

Hello DCLADDICT! :sunny:

I also have a DS13! With Carol36's son, that makes three thirteen year old boys so far. We are a party of four, myself, DH, DS13 and DD12. Can't wait!!!

seastar, sorry to hear about your DD's wrist. My DS13 broke his wrist last year and only had to wear the cast for about four weeks, after that they let him wear a removable velcro splint. Kids heal fast! I hope she has a quick recovery.

seastar-Oh my gosh! Sorry to hear of little DD's mishap. Hopefully she will recover quickly and be ready for smooth sailing!

greytlady-What a neat idea to have her cast signed by the characters, but hopefully she will have it off before the cruise.

If not, a cool keepsake! haha

DCL Addict-Welcome!

We are counting the days....won't be long now. Of course I have nothing shopped for, packed or prepared. I'll be freaking out in a couple of weeks if I don't stop procrastinating!

I'm still in daydream mode! :p

I must have gone into daydream mode too hoping my cruise was closer than it really is. :faint: Bummer, I've got a longer time to wait.

You're right, she should have the cast of by then.

Thanks for all of your well wishes!!! DD is doing good today-only a little pain. We go on Wednesday to get the cast. The doctor already told me with the waterproof cast she can shower and swim but NO BEACH!!! My hope is she will get it off just before the cruise.

It is almost one month to go!!!!::yes::

seastar...WHAT A BUMMER!!! I am so sorry to hear about your DD5's wrist! You know that children heal soooo fast, especially as young as she is. I know that you are feeling her pain right now.:worried: I hope and pray that she will be able to get that cast off before the cruise. If not, then you are still going on a DISNEY CRUISE!!!!:jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1:

SeaStar--so sorry about your daughter's wrist--I have to go along with the other--kids heal alot faster than we do---tell her my grandchildren said they hope she'll be better soon.

DCL ADDICT--welcome, it's great to have a veteran cruiser with us, most of us are newbie's. We will have a meet on Sunday, May 23 at 3 p.m. in the Promanade Lounge if you would like to meet us--let us know--if you pm me with your names, I am making nametags so we can all get to know each other.

Still no DOC's, going to e-mail my travel agent today.

See You Real Soon.......

Thanks Carol36 and TiggerGranny!!!!

At this point, we would be happy to be on the Disney Cruise even if in a body cast!!!

After all this waiting and planning, I am ready to go!!! It is neat to see how our little group has grown. I am looking forward to our dinner at Grills and the DIS meet. It looks like we are going to have a very nice group of kids with many of similar ages.

Hello fellow cruisers!

DD5 broke her arm not her wrist as I originally thought. She broke both the ulna and radius bones. She got the cast today and we go back on May 17. If it is healed, the cast will come off then. If not, she will have to wear it on the cruise. The doctor is very optimistic that it will heal quickly.

Thanks for all your well wishes!!

How's everyone doing?

I got a nice surprise from my WONDERFUL husband last night, his sister who lives in Orlando wants to get together Memorial week-end, my hubby said "we might as well meet them at Disney and go to Epcot Flower festival"--WOW a cruise and then Disney I must have been a very good girl this month.

When I get home today I will check around to see what we want to do--I think we would like to try the SWAN this time. We will go from ship to Disney until 5/31.

MY 13YO DS IS A SPECIAL NEEDS CHILD, IN THAT HE IS DEVELOPMENTALLY DELAYED DUE TO SEIZURES. HE FUNCTIONS FROM ABOUT 5 YEARS OLD IN SOME AREAS AND 10-12 IN OTHERS. YOU REALLY NOTICE THAT HE IS DIFFERENT WHEN IT COMES TO INTERACTING WITH KIDS HIS OWN AGE. YOU SEE THAT HE STILL LIKES TO PLAY WITH ACTION FIGURES, LOVESSSSS DISNEY MOVIES AND CARTOONS, AND JUST DOES NOT THINK LIKE THE AVERAGE 13 YEAR OLD. HE IS SUCH A PLEASURE AND BLESSING!! I AM CURIOUS IF THERE IS ANYONE WITH A SPECIAL NEEDS CHILD, ON OUR CRUISE. ESPECIALLY THAT HE MIGHT MAKE FRIENDS WITH AND SPEND TIME WITH. HE IS TOO OLD FOR THE KIDS CLUBS (WHICH HE LOVED WHEN HE WAS YOUNGER), BUT COULD NOT FUNCTION WITH THE TEENS, SO HE IS IN THE MIDDLE. WE WILL OF COURSE WILL SPEND TONS OF TIME WITH HIM, BUT HIS SISTER HAS A FRIEND WITH HER (HER GRADUATION TRIP), BUT IT WOULD BE AWSOME IF DS HAD A FRIEND AS WELL. JUST WANTED TO CHECK. THANKS!!:wave2:

Hi DCL Addict,

Your DS sounds like a sweetie!!! He should have a blast on the cruise!

My DD's are 6 and almost 9. They are not special needs kids but we would love to hang out with you by the pool or at other spots. My girls love to hang out with other kids of any age. Maybe we can all go see a movie together. My kids just saw "Home on the Range" and they loved it. I bet it will be playing on our cruise.

Take care. :flower:

I have a DS10 and DD11 who love the same things and love making new friends. I'm sure they would all be able to relate to our pets and can swap stories. I think we must have the best group that has ever sailed together. We already know so much about each other and everyone has such warm open hearts, I think this is going to be the best cruise ever.

DCLADDICT--I think all the children will fit together and watch out for one another, because that's what kids do best. I am sure your son will be made to feel very welcomed.

We are glad you will be joining our Sunday meet, I think the sooner all the kids get to meet the better.

We are past the 30 day mark, can you believe it.

This is our first Disney cruise (first any cruise)! We've been to WDW many times and finally convinced DH to try the cruise. We booked back in Oct when AllseasonsTravel was running a special and giving $25 shipboard credits. We haven't rec'd docs yet, but aren't expecting them until 2 weeks out. Getting close!

My two DC15 are indeed boy/girl twins. When you see them, you'll never guess they were twins. They look totally different. On the other hand, DS15 and DS9 look so much alike. DS15 refers to his brother as "mini-me"!
:hyper:

I still haven't made night before the cruise room reservation. Can't decide between RonJon and Radisson. We are driving down and will probably go to Grandma's house just south of Tifton, GA on Friday night. Then, we're only 4-5 hours away from the port and could spend time in the pool at RJ. Where is everyone else staying?

See you all soon!

We would all love to have your family join us there and at the Dis Meet the next day at 3. This way everyone, especially the children, can get aquainted before the cruise really begins.:sunny: We booked in Oct., also. We booked straight through DCL and then in January transferred to TA(Cruise Planners). We got onboard credit because we booked with Disney Visa and then when we transferred to TA, we got an additional discount.

Carol36, My DS13 will be 14 on August 3rd. They're only 17 days apart! So you live near Macon, you don't have to battle the Atlanta traffic to get to Florida. Lucky you! We plan our life around that traffic.

I haven't started packing but I went to Walmart and stocked up on Bonine, Peptobismol, Immodium A-D, and a few other things. I've learned that when traveling with a family it's so nice to have those things on hand. ( My husband makes fun of me until he needs something!)

I also went swimsuit shopping: YIKES!!!

:scared1:

Carol36
04-29-2004, 09:48 PM
:rotfl:   gamom...swimsuit shopping! That's funny! I went to Alpharetta last month with my DH and went shopping. In Dec., I went with DM,DSis to Mall of Ga., Discover Mills, Dawsonville premium outlets and we had a ball. I understand what you mean about the traffic! It is awful. I would love to live there, but I don't think I could handle that traffic. I live in a small town and sometimes hate to fight Macon traffic.

I am going this weekend to shop for those "just in case" necessities. Husbands are funny! We have to think of everything!:teeth:

We have a little of 3 weeks!!!:earsgirl: :earsboy:

tiggergranny

still waiting for them--called allseasons, they said maybe next week.

Bathing suit shopping--yuk!!! I would rather have a tooth pulled.

I did take my daughter out last week-end to get her some new closthes and speaking of teeth, it was like pulling a few, to get her to buy any thing new. All day and she ended up with a pair of sandels and 2 shorts outfits. I will take her out again this week-end and hopefully we will have better luck.

How is everybody, Seastar how is your daughter's arm healing?

We are getting so close, everything seems to be coming up right now, soccer's ending (party's), school's ending (party's), graduation for my grandaughter from pre-school to Kindergarten (Party) plus 2 bithdays, Mother's day, and a wind down of all my volunteer events (dinners). TiggerGranny: Thanks for asking about DD's arm. It seems to be going well. She has easily adapted to the cast . It itches her sometimes but it hasn't been too bad. It has been a blessing to have the waterproof cast so she can bathe and swim as usual.

Feels like a dream! I'm washing and packing today.

Seastar/Carol/Darlene (or anyone?)-Did your pediatrician tell you what he/she recommends for seasickness for kids? Just curious because mine said he doesn't want me to give them anything. He said kids are usually more tolerant than adults. I read somewhere on the boards of parents giving their kids ginger snaps because something in ginger is suppose to help. I think I will come prepared just in case. Does bonine have dosage info on the package for children?

seastar
05-01-2004, 01:07 PM
Deweysgirl:

I bought the generic Bonine/Dramamine Less Drowsy at Target-32 pills for $3.99. Each pill is 25mg of Meclizine Hydrochloride. The package states "Do not give to children under 12 years of age unless directed by a doctor." I plan on calling my pediatrician this week to see if it would be OK to give them a half of one if they get seasick.

Well, I am back from New Orleans and the Jazz Fest. Had a wonderful time. Don't expect life to move too quickly - but the food, music and the people are great. I definitely would love to go again. :jester:

Today my cruise tickets were in my mailbox waiting for me when I got home from work. Less than three weeks to go! :cloud9: I have been seriously debating about letting the kids skip the last day of school, head down on Friday and have 1 day of parks. How crowded do you think Sat 5/22 will be? I can't decide if that would be a bit too much, but it will be so hard to be so close to WDW and not go to a park. How much would the kids miss on the last day of school (4th and 6th grades)?! I can't decide. We can't go after the cruise since we will be headed to Tallahassee for a few days to visit a relative that lives there.

Welcome back greytlady! Glad to hear you enjoyed New Orleans. I got my docs today also! I had a minor panic attack when I read an enclosed letter from my TA that stated that all four of us are U.S. citizens! My DH is a resident alien from Australia. I immediately called my TA and he called DCL and had the ship's manifest changed to reflect the correct information. I hope this doesn't cause us any trouble at the port.

As far as the last day of school, I wouldn't worry about missing it. Around here the last WEEK of school is a write off. And I don't think many schools get out as early as we do (5/21) so the parks shouldn't be too bad!

I was out today and when I checked my mailbox, my package from FedEX was stuffed inside (I quess because it was raining) but they were all wet and torn. BUT the tickets were FINE. I was so happy just to get them. I was a little disappointed some people said they received a little gift from All Seasons with their but we didn't get anything. Oh Well, we're on our way.

I wouldn't worry about missing one day of school either, that last week is pretty much a "party" around here.

My granddaughter will be celebrating her 5th birthday on Tuesday night on the ship.

Only 19 days to go......any one else packing yet. I'm not packing clothes but everytime I pick something up it goes in the box marked "cruise" or "disney". My husband is going to come up to Disney on Friday morning so he is bringing soda, snacks, outside playthings, and pool floats and toys. We didn't want to have to bring any of that with us.

My grandkids are so excited only 11 days of school left.

See you all soon!

THIS CRUISE IS TO CELEBRATE MY DD'S HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION. WE ARE GOING TO WDW BEFORE AND AFTER OUR CRUISE, AND MAKING THIS A SPECIAL TRIP FOR HER. SHE IS SO EXCITED, AND I THINK SHE IS MORE EXCITED ABOUT THE CRUISE THAN ABOUT GRADUATION! SHE LOVES DCL! :sunny: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Thanks for the replies. I'm feeling better about hitting the road on Friday instead of Saturday. Now I just need to decide if I want to try out Priceline or just update my current reservatins. Decisions, decisions.

gamom - Thank goodness you caught that in your papers earlier. Hopefully everything is settled and you won't have to worry anymore about the manifest.

How wonderful, a birthday and a graduation to celebrate! Of course, any excuse is a good excuse when doing the Disney thing.

I got the bathing suits for everyone but now need to see about dinner wear for the kids. I wonder if the boys could get away with those shorts that are past the knees. Would they let him in for supper in those? It would seem a shame if my DD wore capris but DS had to wear long pants. Trying to keep packing to a minimum.

Hello everybody!:wave2: I hope all is well!!!:sunny:

seastar...your daughter only has about a week and a half and maybe that cast will come off!!!:D I cannot believe that you payed 3.99 for 32 pills! I paid 2.97 for 8 at Walmart(name brand)! Have you called Dr. yet? I hope those pills won't have to be used!!!

congratulations...tiggergranny, gamom, deweysgirl, and greytlady!!! :thewave:
I am glad you all got your docs!!!:teeth:

greytlady...I think that skipping the last day of school is fine. The only thing that my DC do is play games and other fun stuff. I agree with you....being so close, you have to go to WDW!!!::yes::

Deweysgirl...We are also on Deck 6 Cat 11!

DCLaddict...Your daughter is going to have one great graduation trip!!!:flower1:

It is great that everyone is getting their docs!!!!

I spoke with our pediatrician today about the Bonine/Dramamine Less Drowsy. She said my girls are too young to take it and she suggested Dramamine Liquid or Dramamine Junior. I will buy one of those but I am hoping they will not need to take anything.

We are also on Deck 6 in a Cat 11!!!

Yesterday my DD8's class was talking about what everyone is going to do on their summer vacation and her teacher mentioned that her family is going on the Disney cruise right after school gets out. Sure enough, we are on the SAME CRUISE!!! We had a good laugh about that. She has been a wonderful, caring teacher so I will have to buy her a drink or something! They are also on deck 6 in a Cat 11.

seastar...thanks for that info on bonine. I will have to do the same and get the liquid or junior. Hopefully, we won't have to use it.

What a coincidence that many of us are on deck 6, cat. 11!!! That's too funny!!! I wouldn't mind a magical upgrade, either! I just know that I am excited regardless!!!

:wave2: Hi everyone! I'm going to start a new thread so we can just list info like who is sailing, where you are from, when you are arriving in Port Canaveral, where you're staying Sat nite, etc. I know Tiggergranny has combined some of this info in one post, but I can't easily find it and I have now convinced my 15 yr old boy/girl twins that it's ok for them to e-mail other cruisers. (forever I have told them not to e-mail people they meet on the net! but hey, this is Disney and we're all in the same boat):goodvibes

We'll still keep "talking" on this thread and use other one just for the basics:wave2: So look for the May 23 Roster and add your info!

seastar-thanks for the info on the dramamine/bonine. I will look for the Jr. in the drug store but like you, hope I don't have to use anything. I want the kids to be awake and happy, not passed out! lol!! After all, we did plan this cruise for them, right? (yeah, right! ;) )

gamom2three-I will look for the new thread. Thanks!

Looking forward to meeting you all on Deck 3 and will probably run into most of you on Deck 6! :p

I haven't had a chance to go through all the posts yet but wanted to add another 6 yr old girl- sounds like there will be quite a few!

Welcome FirstTimeMom!!!

I also have a DD6! We are all going to have such a great time! Please join us at 3pm on Sunday in the Promenade Lounge for a DIS meet.

I went to three different stores and could not find Dramamine Jr or Liquid. I did find the chewables. The Dramamine chewables are 50 mg pills and are safe for children. My doctor told me the Junior is a 50mg pill so this is what I am going to get. They were around $4.50 for 8 tablets. The package does warn about drowsiness.

Welcome firsttimemom!

I saw a couple of new folks on our other thread. http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=562419 (Lori Taylor and fessler). I hope they'll find their way to this thread also.

Thanks to everyone's help, I have decided to skip the last day of school so we can do one day of parks on Saturday. I booked a room via Priceline and will be staying at the Sheraton Safari Hotel instead. (I've stayed there before - the kids love the pool). I'll have to update my other thread now. We'll be hitting the road 2 weeks from tomorrow. Woo Hoo!

:Pinkbounc Thanks greytlady for your invite to this area. I've been reading the messages here for sometime now but have not replied until now.

I think this is the right descriptions of our groups. DD (31) DGS(12) DGS(5) and me DG (grandmother 56)

We will be staying in a studio at Ron Jons on Sat. I noticed that others will be staying there also. I'll need to reread all the posts to see if there's a meet scheduled there. We plan to arrive Sat by 1 pm or ASAP and head to the lazy river. Check in time is not until 4 pm but they said we could use the facilities when we arrive. I read that it and the slide both close at 5pm. Guess it will be the pools until 5 and then maybe the beach. It sounds like a wonderful place.

I stay so excited about the Cruise that I can think or talk of hardly anything else.

Hi fesslerl,

There is a meet at the "Grill" Saturday night for dinner- I can't remember the time. I think it was going to be around 5pm so you could watch the Magic sail away. If you are interested let tiggergranny know so she can update the reservations. For a menu or info on the restaurant - http://www.visitgrills.com/menu.asp

There is a DIS meet Sunday at 3pm at the Promenade Lounge. Please join us there.

Thank you tiggergranny for arranging our meets!

I only listed ages of the under 18 crowd for our youngsters to match up with. So the list is missing the total adults (and their ages) in party. You'll have to meet us at the DIS meet. :D

fesslerl...We are staying at Ron Jon's Saturday, also. Our approximate arrival time is also 1. We would like to get time in the slide and lazy river before it closes. This will also gives us time to "have fun" before our meet at Grill's. I think that Grill's is only a few miles from the Radisson.

About the dramamine w/ kids issue- my 6 yr old gets carsick pretty easily (so what do we do- put her on a cruise  ). After a particularly bad drive from DC to Boston, we've been giving her a 1/4 of a dramamine chewable based on her weight- she's tiny at just under 40 lbs. It's worked wonders and hasn't made her drowsy/hyper/whatever. Just her normal 6 yr old self.

We're staying at the poly for 2 nights before the cruise and we'll drive to the port that morning.

We've just bought a HUGE suitcase, nightlights, clothespins, etc...

Welcome to our newcomers: firsttime mom and fesslerl, we are so glad you found us.

Fist the meeting at GRills: Sat. May 22, at about 4-4:30 to meet up since the Magic sails at 5, then we can eat.

I made extra nametags (when I made the others) They have Mickey on them, with our names and our dis names, I also put the childrens ages on them to help the kids out.

They won't take reservations until that day, but I will call when they open at 9 a.m. to remind them we are coming our group is over 20 now so we'll just have to be patience with them.
I haven't been there sorry to say, but I will call and maybe they can give me a good idea of a place a little out of the way where we can meet and I'll let you know. I have heard from friends that the food there is suppose to be top notch.

Firsttime mom--you will be in the same boat I am (ha ha), we'll be grandmothers, our daughters (Mine's Linda) will be 36 and my granddaught will turn 5 on the cruise (Ashley), I also have 2 boys 7 & 10.

I can't figure out how I'm going to pack all of our other things. I haven't thought about shoes!

Which 50% should I take out? I always pack too much. I would rather have everything that I needed than finding myself short.

Trying to figure out when to have family time and when to let the kids do whatever is a hard decision. I want us to remember this cruise as a family and think back on the fun times we had together. But, I also want our DC to have independence and memories of their own to share. I know that we will have dinner together, which is a requirement. We can pick the other activities that we would all like to do together and make these a priority.

Have a great day!

:Pinkbounc Only 10 days until we leave We leave on 5/21 and drive to Valdosa; then on 5/22 to Ron Jons.
:)

Carol I feel the same way you do. I'd rather pack too much then not enough! And family time is very important but there are some things in the kid clubs that sound fun.

Maybe we should ask experienced cruises on these boards to list their favorite family things to do on the ship and what they feel should not be missed in the clubs. Any volunteers?

tiggergranny
05-11-2004, 10:43 AM
The only family time we require is going to the shows and dinner each night, this one was non-negotiable.

Then we sat down with the most recent navigators on the net and listed everything we want to do individually and as a family----no way could we fit it all in--decided to leave some things for next cruise!!!

We then just each checked off 3 things we wanted to do during the entire cruise, the rest will be fit in if we really want it.

We want this cruise to be fun, family, and still restful, not stressed. That's our plan!!!and we're sticking to it?

fesslerl
05-11-2004, 11:36 AM
Tigergranny Thanks for the information. You are so organized. Your plan sounds great!! The last comment made me laugh. You know what they say about the best laid plans.....

There is so much information out there.I've looked at the Navigators for 4 day Wonder starting Feb 29, 2004 & printed several copies. I think I've read too much information to process it all. hehehe

I did give my 12 yr old grandson a print out of recent kids programs and asked him to highlight anything that he really would like to do. Never thought about limiting it to 3. I figured a lot of it would depend on the day & time.

I hope both grandsons want to be in the show whereby the particiipates get free tshirts. It sounds like a really cute program. The kids clubs also seem to have some fun things planned for on Castaway Cay.

I agree that the shows & dinner are nice times for the family to be together.
I like the term non-negotiable.

Again thanks for all you do & sharing with us.

greytlady
05-11-2004, 11:48 AM
I agree, I told the kids that I expected to have dinner and show as family time together, the rest of the time was up to them. Of course, I told them there were some things Mommy wants to do where kids can't go (wine tasting).

Currently we have 2nd dining (waitlisted for 1st). I'm hoping now that I don't get 1st dining but didn't know which I would like when I originally signed up. So maybe we'll get to share a table if you are in the 2nd. I've been reading my Passporter that I got the other week. It looks like my rotation will either start with Parrot Cay or Animator's. Looks like adults only start off with the Triton rotation. I don't know if my kids qualify as young or older kids. Aniticipation. I can't wait. The only reason I haven't packed yet is I don't want the clothes to get too wrinkled - plus I have to wear something in the next couple of weeks. I've planned on 4 pairs shorts, 3 capris (can wear to dinner also), 1 long pant outfits. I hope that will be enough - oh and 3 pair of shoes for me. Debating on packing skirt outfit - we don't have any semi-formal dinners.

Do you think capri's will be too underdressed for dinner?

seastar
05-11-2004, 12:07 PM
We are doing pretty much the same as the rest of you: Our kids will eat dinner with us and see the show each night. They love to swim so I am sure they will hang out with us so they can go to the pools and swim at Castaway Cay. We are also going to the Straw Market in Nassau together.

I have not started packing but I know what outfits I will take. Greytlady, I think a nice capri outfit would be fine for dinner. I am bringing a dress for our dinner at Triton's because we want to get a nice picture taken of the four of us.

From what I've read on these boards, it seems like a lot of people wear capris. I think that would be just fine. It seems they want you to dress up the most when at Trintons. I've packed a couple pair of black slacks, black sandles & 4 dressy tops for the dinners. We are bringing the spray that helps to get out wrinkles and if worst comes to worst, I guess I can always iron!

I know I'm going to eat a lot and gain weight so I'm making sure there's plenty of "stretch" in my shorts & slacks. Of course, it will be back to the diet when I get back home.

I read in a few places that it is "cold" in the dining rooms and theaters so I'm taking a sweater.

We have 1st dining (recommended by TA). It seems like there's advantages to both. I believe 1st dining is a little shorter which is great for small kids. What I fear is our 5 yr grandson going to sleep at dinner and not wanting to wake up for the shows. He loves to swim so we will probably spend a lot of time at the pools. We were going to get off at Nassau & shop but decided to stay on the ship and use our souvenier money on ship & Castaway Cay stuff.

This is my first Cruise and may be my last since I can't seem to talk my husband into going on one. Sooo we are leaving him behind this year!

Happy Birthday to Seastar's little DD!!:cheer2:

I also agree that I want the kids to eat and do the shows with us. I was checking on the navigator and it seems they have a sail-away party in the kids clubs' on Sunday at 8:30pm. I think it's lousy timing because I would think most folks would be eating and/or at their show during that time. I guess my kids will miss that.

I also like the idea of letting the kids choose 3 things they would like to do. I'll let my kids decide that way.

I know this sounds weird but I'm getting a tad depressed amidst all of the excitement because I can't believe it's so close now, (and then it's over!). Oh well, I guess I'll just have to start planning for another! LOL!!! :rotfl:

Happy Birthday to Seastar's DD/1:cake:

Greytlady, Last year when my DD12 ( 11 at the time) and I cruised together our dining rotation started and ended with Triton's and we had the late dining. We were excited to get the "fancy" restaurant twice in our rotation but in the end my DD decided that she liked Parrot Cay best. I loved EVERYTHING about the cruise! And, yes, capris are fine for dinner.

Seastar- happy birthday to your little one!

We have late seating for dinner. Our kids (4 and 6) stay up late, but I'm wondering if *eating* that late will be an issue. We may get them room service before the show and then take them to the kids club while we eat a peaceful dinner.

We're doing WDW the day before the cruise and Universal thurs/fri after the cruise so we're packing a TON of stuff but I'm not doing laundry on vacation.
