What is a typical Disney year for someone with 1,000 points? In a way I'm jealous, but I don't know what I'd do with 1,000 points. I guess I've forgotten what it's like to have free time.

We have 300 points and that seems plenty for our family of seven. One trip to WDW is all we can handle each year. If my wife and I took a trip by ourselves we would stay at a deluxe Disney hotel and points are not efficient for that type of lodging.

We haven't visited HH yet. I guess if we fall in love with it we might consider getting some of those points on resale.

I've thought about an extra 100 points, because we occasionally pay for an extra night. But when our kids leave home we'd have more points than we need.

I guess if we lived a little closer...

That sounds wonderful!!

At my stage, I dream of an occasional free night. I can barely imagine a 2 or 3 month vacation.

Whoa.

You're kidding, right? I have dreamed of owning 1000 DVC points! I would take my extended family on the trip of a lifetime, and not worry about what "season" it fell in, or where we would spend Saturday night! Heck, I would even take hubby's free-loading family along! And all my kids could bring a friend or two, and their families....

Hmmm, 1000 points. Oh dear what would I do?
Well at least one trip to WDW.
One 7 day cruise (don't tell me about the cash value.).
One trade to Hawaii or Europe.
That would take care of this year.
Of course the cost of getting there and the availability of vacation time at work may put a crimp in those plans.

Or I could make plans fro family members to go without me. (Without me?? Horrors!)

Ahh to dream.:smooth:

It's like money in your wallet. Your not sure where the heck it goes, but it goes.

Three trips this year. We don't worry about seasons or weekends.
If we want to stay the weekend at AKL concierge on points, we will do it (we are this April).

I guess I can blow points like a drunkin' DISailor! :teeth:

While we don't have 1000 points, were close. We maximize trips while we have an AP, then we have an "off WDW" time. We visit HH and Vero, We plan trips with extended family in larger units. DVC has allowed us to start new and different holiday traditions for our family.

We seem to use our 1000 each year. Got tired of borrowing each year so just bought more and more points. We're doing a villa at HH this spring break, bringing friends for the first time. Did NYE 2003 week at BCV, doing a 2bd for a week in August at HH and Thanksgiving, Keystone Resort for skiing this December after XMAS. Vero for a week during spring break 2005 to see baseball. Don't worry that much about Fridays or Saturday stays anymore. I would go more often if my DW let me take our daughter out of school! I'm obsessed!

We always manage to use all of our points. We have owned since 1992 and only "forgot" one point in all those years.. We borrow and bank like we used to do when we had fewer points, but do it less frequently. I have started a new thing this year. I began to rent enough points to cover our maintainence fees which are $5000 a year. With 1252 points we can rent some to others and still have plenty left for quality vacation time. To aanswer your question this year 2003-2004 we have gone to Disney by ourselves to BWV in a one bdrm boardwalk viewfor a week, with my sister in law for a week at OKW in a 2 bdrm, 5 days at the BCV with my friend and our granddaughters, 5 days with my 6 yo grandson in a 2 bdrm at OKW. Going forward we are staying 5 days at VWL in a one bdrm while my granddaughter stays in a studio at OKW, we are getting a Beach Cottage and 2 ocean front Inn rooms at VB for a family reunion in April, a 5 day trip to SS with my grandson in June and a 5 day trip to OKW in a 1 bdrm while my neice and her new husband enjoy an OKW studio. I also "rented" some points to my daughter's best friend for 5 nights in a 2 bdrm in OKW. I say rented but gave might be a better word since I only asked her to pay me $5 a point or $600 for a 5 days in October. We do try not to stay for the weekends so this saves many points.

When I rent my points I charge more than $10 pp because they are worth more than that. I cannot understand how so many think they are actually making a profit, or for that matter breaking even, at $10 a point. This is especailly true at the 11 month interval for home resorts like BCV and BWVs. It would take more than $10 to tie up my points for almost a year. I have read of someone owning 2000+ points so he can rent at $10 pp. I would never take on that kind of investment in a time share propery and (a) not use most of the time myself and (b) not rent for way more than $10 pp. But that is just my opinion.
I love WDW and I love bringing people with me there. My dh says I am too cavalier with our points but I like to "enjoy" all the excitment that's Disney with those I care about..

Sorry I got up on my soap box in the last post. "To each his own". I have no right to make judgements for others. I think everyone should do what ever makes them happy. I think you should either enjoy vacation planning or rent your points for a business..... or whatever combination of the two you come up with.....:p :p :p Ahh DVC what bliss!!!

Whipping out Caskbils wonderful DVC vacation planner and so far this year...

Feb 7-11th OKW 2 bedroom 145 points
Feb 12-14th VB 2 bedroom 147 points
Mar 25-29th HH 2 bedroom 137 points
June 7-13th HH 2 bedroom 277 points (sat night a killer at 99 points!)
Oct 11-17th BCV 2 Bedroom 250 points
for a total of............... 956 points. This is not taking into consideration the 2 other OKW 2 bedrooms, 1-1bedroom and 2 studios we booked for the Feb 7-11th May moms get together, but we rented those points out to my friends<grin> we didnt use them ourselves... so 956 for personal use this year.

Those are booked...

I still need to book a girls weekend and a solo trip this year, so we will prolly end up borrowing... :earseek:

We are very fortunate... My husband has worked for the Dept Of Energy for close to 25 years so he gets (and needs) a lot of vacation time. Plus our children are young so we can travel just about anytime we want. As they get older, it will be fewer vacations at peak times.

Airfare runs from a low of $1000 to a high of $1500 for 5 seats... Food can be a killer... so we are phasing in more cook UGH. Oh well... better to cook at WDW than cook at home!

I have an AP, but the rest of the family doesnt, since we spend only a couple of days per trip at a park. As the kids get older, we will all have PAP and the thought of that kills me... LOL

We are blessed, and we understand how truely lucky we are to be able to vacation as much as we do. We often bring family and freinds (March trip to HH is golfing with 'the boys' and my girls trip is on the house... etc)

In the future we hope to trade out to other resorts in a direct trade manner.... And when we cruise we will use part points, or rent points out to cover the cruise... stuff like that. But for right now, we love what the DVC properties have to offer.

Anyway.... that is how we use our points... sorry so long!

They go quick when you have them.

This year alone:

1BR BWV 1 week in Jan. 162 points.

2BR BWV 1 week in May. 286 points.

2BR and 3 studio's BWV in Sept. 477 points.

1BR OKW in Dec. 80 points.

Total this year 1005 points.

And it just started over again today, 2 BR BWV in Jan. '05 222

points.

I know my wife wants to go again next May for the flower

and garden show. (1BR)

And my daughter wants to go again in September, with my 2

grandchildren. (2BR)

This is what we have the points for,to enjoy the family in a very

nice place.

As I read these posts it makes me think more about what I'd do. I think we'd stay at HH once each year, and check out Vero -- but probably stick with HH because it's only 6 hours from where we live.

We'd probably get OKW grand villas and invite family to stay with us -- at least we'd give it a try.

For those of you that rent out points -- have there been any hassles with that or problems with renters? Do you rent to locals? Friends? Or do you rent on line? Has the DIS DVC rental forum been helpful? The idea of owning a bucketload of points and renting to cover the annual fees is appealing, but I would be concerned about the long term value of such an investment.

We have 1000 points. We typically take 2 trips a year, both in a 2 bedroom at BCV, one in May for 10 days Friday through Monday which uses 492 points I believe and the other is a 9 night trip in October Friday through Sunday and it takes 404 points. The extra 100 points was just to make it an even 1000. I have never rented out my points and don't really plan to.

If I could get my paws on over 1000 pts total, I'd like to have a 2 week WDW vacation semi-annually. On the alternate yrs, I'd instead get a GV at BWV for a week. (But I'm still too cheap to follow jade1's lead and do that during xmas week... make mine just after NYE!)

Then use the remaining pts to either trade out or go to HH.

ANd one thing I know I'd do if I had 1000 pts... I'd be planning what wonderful things I could do if I just had 2000 pts instead!

To answer a few questions posted here. We are fortunate to have accumulated 1,000 BCV & 1,000 BWV points over the years.

We did this for several reasons. We use approximately 600-1,000 points each year ourselves with various trips to WDW. At least once a year with our four daughters and a couple of times a year with just me and my wife. The girls love WDW and can't wait to go back. Since we have been members (1996) we seem to always have visitors each time we go. This April we have a family reunion with 23 of my wife's family.

The other 1,000 points we rent out each year and have for the last 2 years. We mainly rent to friends and family but have rented on the DisBoard many times. We did this so we can give each of our four girls 250-350 points when then turn 30. My wife and I wanted to make sure that their children, our grandchildren, can experience WDW when they have kids of their own. We have never had a problem with renting and have calculated that we will have paid off the points with the rent that we charge in just over 17 years (based on what we paid when we purchased the points plus dues and taxes each year.) This will give them just over 20 years to enjoy WDW themselves.

If I could I would buy another 1,000. but you have to work some time.
