Forget the birdbath, the firepit, the water feature, this is what I want in my yard!!!

~The most recent expansion of this railway added 200' of track to go around the house. The author and his sons jackhammered the front steps, then repoured them with a stainless-steel tunnel underneath. Marc Horovit~ Photo and text, Garden Railways Magazine.

You should see the layout in this guy's backyard, it's amazing! You could spend hours, days, weeks, pouring over the details.

Yes, I bought a Garden Railways (http://www.trains.com/maghomepage/maghomepage.asp?idMagazine=5) magazine the other day. :p What a wonderful hobby!

Even better, for those of you with the space would be a riding railway!

How cool is this!!!!!! :D Seats for your guests, as they take a tour of your acreage....lol. All aboard!!!! :)

It's so cool, isn't it Vanessa!! :sunny: You should do it, you have the nice woodsy backyard!! ::yes::

I'd love something like this, and John likes it too, but first we'd have to move, and then I'd have to figure out how to clone him so that it gets built!!! :teeth:

He has a train set (indoor), and my eldest brother gave me his Lionel engine and cars (they're over 40 years old). A large table was constructed to set it all up on, but guess what? The large table is now covered with lots of large boxes. The trains are still packed up. One of these days..... :D

That is so cool. DH would love it. Uh oh I feel a project coming on. We have trains of all sizes and used to have a huge board with mountains and a village for it. We set them up in the winter in the basement but outside would be great. Maybe next summer. I just wonder how it would take to the weather.
Walt Disney had a fabulous train set up in his backyard. He would ride around his property on it. I think that's where he got the idea for the trains in Disneyland. We ride the WDW trains every visit, they are so neat.

Welcome to the F&GB, mommytotwo! :) :)

Deb, as far as I know, the tracks are made especially for the outdoors. I'm not sure about the buildings, or the trains themselves. Having said that, one of the articles features a garden train in Ontario (not far from me), and shows the train with a special plow attachment for removing snow from the tracks. It's very cute! :)

Some of these trains are extremely pricey! There was one I noticed, a steam engine, that was advertised for $4345.00!!

Diane, you certainly have the space to do something like this!! Maybe the train could carry miniature logs, to match your new house!! ::yes:: ;)
