Ok...here's the scoop. Friends of ours will be in Orlando at the very end of June and we want to go see them. They will have already done Disney before we get there and our passes are on blackout at that time so we won't be going there. We are a family of 5 and so are they.
So...where would you recommend staying? We've got our first off property stay this weekend at Doubletree but that was a free incentive through my work. I probably wouldn't have picked that as my first choice.
I'm hoping for a nice pool and maybe a waterslide for the kids. They will be 9, 9, 8, 7, 4, and 2.
I see a lot of posts about the HIFS. Do they offer anything extra other than housing 5 in a room and bunk beds?
Thanks for any suggestions!!

I am confused - you say that you are family of 5 - then you list 6 children ages - that plus you and your husband makes you a family of 8 - or am I missing something.
you best bid would be a timeshare - most of the 2-bedroom will sleep 6 - some will even sleep 8. a 2-bedroom is expensive but comes with a kitchen.
You might get a deal on
www.skyauction.com
there are also homes in the Kissimmee/St cloud area that you can rent.
if you try skyauction - be carefully - the timeshares are for 7 days period - there is only an extra charge of $195 plus in the end a $15 fee. there are several hotels listed here too - they are generally not a good buy. you also must have a 2-bedroom.
don't eliminate Disney - with the Florida resident discount - right now FW cabins are a very good deal. (of course they are only for 6)

Without a doubt, I would recommend renting a vacation home. There is a good variety in locations that you would enjoy.

sorry for the confusion. There are two families of 5 going, so 10 people total, but we will stay separately as two groups of 5. 2 adults and 3 kids each.
I was thinking to stay off property since we will not be doing any parks at that time. We are seasonal pass holders and our friends will have already had their fill of Disney before we arrive.
Thanks!

2 questions:
1) Where will your friends be staying since they will already be there? Or will they move to wherever you end up?
2) How long will you be staying?
Once we know that more recommendations can be made.

Lisa, our friends will already be there before we arrive and they will be staying at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort. They will have been there for 5 nights before we arrive and said they could move wherever we wanted to stay. I'm not sure that I've heard much positive about the Sunspree, so that's why I was looking elsewhere.
We will stay 4 nights...arriving on a Friday and leaving on a Tuesday. Or at least that is the plan right now, but we're still flexible on that. They will be flying out on Tuesday, so that is their definite check out day.
Thank you for any ideas!! I may try to check some out while we are there this weekend.
Thanks!
