HELP !!! I want to enjoy myself - the food sounds great - but I don't want to gain weight!!! I keep telling myself, I should lose 10 lbs now so I can afford to gain - and then I'll be even at the end!

Ridiculous, I know! Any advice?

I have never gained an ounce at WDW, in fact I LOST 5 pounds on our last trip! ::yes:: I think the secret is in all the walking.

Go, eat, and ENJOY!

I agree, I weighed myself before we went a few weeks ago, and again afterwards....did not gain a pound. We ate and ate and ate and ate, but we also walked and walked, ran a bit (to catch a bus), walked some more, strolled, mosied, and walked yet some more. Besides, calories don't count at WDW, at least that what my DW says.

I agree with the previous posters. WDW is one place where you can eat and not feel guilty becuase you walk many miles in a day. Volunteer to be the runner for your group and walk quickly ahead to get all of the fast passes. That will burn off enough calories for dessert.

Same here. Walking (and swimming) keeps the weight off.

There is NO reason to diet in disney! The food is a part of the magic. I'm sure youll walk it all off from all of the walking and if it makes you feel better..find a good way to work out, like swimming in the resort pool or taking the long way out the park. Every year my mom wakes up before everyone else and takes a walk around the resort. Whatever you decide, be sure to enjoy the great food!

I ate everything I wanted to and never gained an ounce. We ate at Boma several times for breakfast and dinner and I had plates of desserts. I ate the Dad's Super sundae for lunch one day. I ate tons and tons of puffed French Toast at Crystal Palace. Awesome dessert at Chefs de France. Two more character meals. Casey's dogs and fries which I normally never eat. The list is endless. I live for desserts and ate all that I wanted. Walked my fool head off and never had a problem. I gain weight very easily too. Cannot wait to go back in June and make a pig of myself all over again :)

Sounds good to me! I guess it really is something - to be in motion all day long - too bad we can't do it like that in real life!

Not only the walking & swimming, but depending upon the time of year, the SWEATING! Be sure to drink lots of water with your meals! I ate like a piggy on my last trip and didn't gain a pound

:teeth: <------ That's me after eating my face off for 7 days in WDW.............then going home and stepping on the scale.........

Sorry Tinkie........if you're looking for an excuse not to eat in WDW, won't find it here.............;) ;) ;)

Just another reinforcer to let you know that it is safe in WDW to eat, as long as you plan on walking the parks........

Never once gained any weight in WDW....and agree with Subeat.........I actually lost weight on a few trips............and I'm one of those people who gain weight by "looking" at an Ice Cream Sundae.........

And did I mention that 3/4 of my reason for becoming a Disney-aholic, with my wife, was because of the vast amount of restaurants..........................

:earseek: <-----That's what my eyes look like when my "rack of ribs" shows up on my table at Whispering Canyon........

Good Luck Tinkie..........

I always gain weight at WDW -- I'm a walker at home, so the walking at WDW doesn't make up for the extra food I eat ... or maybe it's the extra drinks! Anyway, I always expected about a 3 lb. gain.

If you exercise a lot and don't eat much normally, you may gain a couple of pounds at WDW even with all the walking. But then again, when you get back to your normal diet and exercise plan, you'll lose those couple of pounds in no time. And I really can't imagine it ever being more than a few pounds, no matter how much you eat at WDW! You'll be too active to gain more than that, no matter what your normal habits are.

I always eat like a complete pig in Disney and usually end up lighter than before I left. I read somewhere that you walk an average of 7 miles a day at Disney. I don't know how true that is but it makes sense, especially if you are commando'*** the parks. ;)

Both DH and I work out a lot and we went to Disney for 7 nights on the Gold Plan. The results? DH managed to lose 6 lbs. while I gained 8 lbs (what can I say, I stuffed myself at every meal). He actually eats more (healthy stuff, but still) at home than at Disney! I took it off in no time, although it did have a lot to do with getting a stomach virus as soon as we returned (hey, a *good* side to getting sick ;) It was the same way last year, he lost, I gained, but it only took me about 2 weeks to lose the weight without getting sick. Don't worry about gaining weight, have fun :D where else can you get Mickey waffles and Tonga toast?

I agree with diswedwish and Kaycee, if you work out a lot at home, then you may gain weight at WDW. I usually try to lose a few pounds before going, so I can eat to my heart's content while at WDW. I love being able to eat whatever strikes my fancy when on vacation, so that makes it easier to lose a couple of pounds before we go.

You can also gain weight if you eat alot and avoid walking. Commando style park touring is better for eating and not gaining than sleeping in, spending a few hours in the park at a leisurely pace before spending the afternoon sitting by the pool followed by a large dinner and maybe a little more leisurely park time.

At home I run 30 miles a week but I expect I shall only manage 10 while in Disney. (Theres only so much running in circular jogging trails I can handle!). I fully expect to gain some this time , but did lactually lose a few pounds last time I was there. I think that was due to the heat. I drank a lot in the day and only really felt like eating properly at night.

Encouraging thread. Thanks everybody. I've been thinking about this a lot lately.

I'm heading to WDW this coming Friday night for 8 nights and I'm worried about gaining. I've lost 41 lbs and still have some more to go so I really don't want to gain back. I've planned one sit down meal per day at either lunch or dinner. We are staying in a studio so I think we'll just have bagels and fruit for breakfast which will help keep the lbs off.

On a past trip my son needed to keep a journal for school so I wore a pedometer every day and he wrote in his journal how many miles we had walked. The smallest day was 8 miles and the biggest was 14 miles. That was a commando 3 park day plus Pleasure Island in the evening.

My son and I recently started going to a gym together and he loves to compare mileage at the end of our workouts so I think I may bring the pedometer for this trip since he gets a kick out of it.

Cathy, try not to worry but also do not fall into old habits.

I lost 5 stone 3 years ago and have kept if off even though I never did on the three occasions I lost it before. In these three years I have learned a lot...Its not what you eat some of the time, its what you eat most of the time that matters. So, my advice.... Enjoy your planned meals out and eat exactly what you want but don't extend the extra sized portions to all three meals breakfast, lunch and dinner. This is easy to do on day one, but harder by day 8!

Also as soon as you get back home go back to normal. The longer you delay the harder it is to get back into it.

The pedometer is a great idea. It will keep you focussed from the start of your holiday and your sons support will be invaluable.

Congrats, by the way, on the 41 pounds down!!

I lost 35 pounds in 2002, after my last child was born, and was very nervous about Disney. The good news is that I did not gain an ounce during our last trip.

What we end up doing keeps the weight down and is also economical.

We eat a good breakfast in the room, oatmeal or eggs or something else that will stick with you. We usually make and pack peanut butter sandwiches for lunch. Our reward for being so good is a delicious dinner where we don't have to worry about either the cost or the calories.

I also avoid sugar, pasta and rice and try to eat more fruits and vegetables.

If you do the above and also are moving a lot I doubt you will have a problem and you will also enjoy the food guilt-free!
