Please read this information regarding artificial sweetners. Read the symptoms page by clicking on the link in the top right hand box of the article.

Since many of us "dieters" use products with artificial sweetners, I thought this was important.

Thanks. This is very important. It ranks right up there with the high fructose corn syrup and partially hydrogenated vegetable oil that the food processors are always shoving at us. It really is poison to your body. There's nothing like real food.

That's why I only use Splenda- it is made from sugar so there are no chemicals to wreak havoc on my body. :D

I have a friend that only drinks diet coke. Nothing else. I can only imagine what is going on in her body with all that artificial sweetner.

Let me first say that I am not stating that aspartame is 100% safe because it is, afterall, a chemical compound. However, please take this woman's website with a grain of salt, in the end, she is trying to sell you something.

Also, please read this information from Snopes - Debunking Urban Legends (http://www.snopes.com/toxins/aspartame.asp) . This "information" has been going around for a while and if you read the report, you can see that there are many scientific bodies that refute these claims.

All I am asking is that you research this topic yourself before you make up your mind.

DisFan 1 - I am really getting into splenda, I think it is what is in Propel and it is great!

Yes kiddies....

Always beware of medicine men/women or anybody selling something to "detoxify" your body. About the only condition i'll let the owner of of this site have is her aspartame allergy. Anything else....i think not. You'd think it was worse the ephedrin from reading this site. NOT

I view Snopes as required reading for any all sites like this 1. 99% of the time its just some nut making up stuff. Same goes for chain e-mails. If its verifiable odds are that Snopes has verified it.

In the meantime enjoy your aspartame, and for those who are pregnant just ask your doc if you should use it.

I've been using this stuff for years. I've used it while pregnant with all 3 kids. None of us have any problems. I know some people have a sesitivity to it and I believe that some people have bad reactions to it. BUT not everyone does. The articles are very one sided...I like to make up my own mind in these matters.

Aspartame came out when my older DDs were small. I asked our pediatrician, who IMO is VERY conservative in his approach to medicine, if there were any dangers in using it. He told me that aspartame is a protien and that some people have allergies to some protiens (ie: peanuts) so that IF you have a sensitivity to this protien that you should not use it. Since we do not have that problem we have used it, and all of our 4 DDs have used it without problem.

Also, I have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis - relatively benign thank God - and I asked my neurologist (who is a specialist in MS) about the aspartame claims. He said "That's horse (poo)! Drink your diet coke and don't worry about it."

I know that some people are very concerned about only putting things that are completely "natural" in their bodies. And that is fine. And if so, then you don't want to use aspartame. But for the rest of us, I think that we can pretty much rest assured that we are safe in using it.

(ALTHOUGH, I do believe that there may be something to the claims that using aspartame increases your hunger. So I am trying to use it very little these days. I use sweet n low and splenda.)

I also use Splenda at home..it's cheaper then buying the Equal. I buy sugar free products and it is half and half whether they have Splenda or NutraSweet in them. I really don't pay attention too much. I will not use anything with saccarine(sp?) mainly because I think it tastes terrible!

umm-the statement that since splenda is made from sugar so it is not a chemical that will wreak havoc with your body is completely inaccurate-sucralose is chemically altered sugar just like aspartame is chemically altered protein-they are about equally risky depending on how your body reacts to the chemical compound they are made of-for that matter sugar is a chemical that some people can react badly too.

The internet can be a wonderful tool, but always consider the souce. If the source wants to sell you something.....

For medical advice WebMD is generally pretty reliable in my past experience.

I am not worried about aspartame, but my father developed a photosensitive allergy to it in the 1980s. He drank diet pop for about two years and suddenly broke out, but only where the sun was hitting (it was December, so this was his face and his driving arm). It stayed with him for a few weeks; he had to grow a full beard because he couldn't shave. He gave up diet pop and never had another problem. I don't think this is really common, people develop weird allergies all the time. And as I've said, my mom, sister and I all drink diet pop without a problem (although I only drink 2 or 3 a week, not gallons of the stuff).
