Does anyone know if you can freeze the tortillas (specifically the whole wheat, low carb/low fat ones) from la tortilla? I can't find any place that sells them locally. I'm thinking of buying a case from them online. I just don't want them to go bad before I can use them.

The Low Carb cookbook I just bought said you could freeze them. She actually recommended seperating each tortilla with something like a paper towel before wrapping and freezing.

Thanks for the info.! Does it say anything about the texture/taste changing?

Don't know if this is of any help but I usually freeze the low cal ones that we get herre in the UK. Have always found them to defrost really well and never noticed a difference from the pre-frozen ones.
Hope this helps.

I hope it's ok to freeze them, I just tossed 4 packs in the freezer :) Our local GNC had them on sale for $.50 a pack!!!

I order them by the case and freeze them, and I've never noticed a difference in texture.

I have not tried these yet, but I am anxious to try them. How many carbs per tortilla?
I was thinking that they would be really good with Steph's Yummy Chicken Stuff (recipe at the top of this board) in them - the regular or the Mexican. What do you think?
Also, could you tell me how you make the burritos, tw1nsmom?
:)

I don't have a recipe for burritos. I just plan on seasoning lean ground or shredded meat with mexican spices (primarily cumin) and adding black beans, lowfat cheese, salsa, and maybe avacado slices or lowfat sour cream. I'd love to get any other recipes or ways to use them (other than sandwich wraps).

I buy mini whole wheat ones and make pizzas with them. I'll use diced tomatoes, onions, whatever kind of cheese I'm in the mood for and whatever else I feel like adding to it. Just cook them in the oven until everything melts and bubbles and it's done. I've also made breakfast pizzas using EggBeaters, fat free ham and onions. Cook everything up, top the tortilla add some low fat chhese and bake until everything is all melted. These are very good.

There is a store locator on the La Tortilla website. It seems that GNC is the place to find them...

Just wanted to let everyone know that I unfortunately won't be ordering a case any time soon. When I went back to the website there was a notice that there would be a 4-5 week delay in shipping, but that your credit card would be charged at time of purchase. I'm sure the tortillas they make are great, but it's illegal to charge someone before the items are ready for shipment. My husband is in computers and does a lot of purchasing online. He flipped when he heard their policy and said "No way". (I do agree with him). Oh well, I'll just have to wait until they come to my area.

I am so sorry to hear this tw1nsmom. :( I am sure that it is very disappointing to you too.
I saw that about the shipping and the charging immediately yesterday when I looked at the web site and I questioned it myself, but I did not know that it was illegal. :( I am sure that once someone catches wind of this, that they will change their policy. I have a feeling that they are experiencing "growing pains" and may not know any better. Perhaps you could call or e-mail them and ask them about this policy?

You can also order the low carb tortillas (and other low carb goodies) from Netrition.com (link below). Their shipping is typically very quick and prices are reasonable. I usually order my Davinci sugar free syrups from them, and the packaging is outstanding. Last time, I think it only took 2 days or so to get here.

Our Kroger carries them and I freeze them too, but I put wax paper between each tortilla so they are easier to get apart and I only have to remove how many I need!
