I decided to go down a few days early to WDW due to the nice weather conditions! Could not get a room at OKW which is where I was staying from Tuesday to Saturday... so I jumped on PriceLine and received the LaQuinta Inn Lakeside in Kissimme for $24 per night. This is a 2* hotel and located just West of WDW on 192. I loved the location and the fact I was on the first floor and could drive right up to my room. The man who was at the front desk was very pleasant and I had no problems checking in. There was a $3.50 "resort" fee per night, which included local calls, refrigerator in the room, newspaper in the morning, coffee and coffee maker in the room. Overall I thought my stay was good, the room was comfortable, the shower water pressure was impressive! I had some concerns however and I note them here:
1) The GFI which the hair dryer and coffee maker plugged into was shot and had to be replaced (would not reset).
2) The table lamp needed a new bulb.
3) The telephone would not allow me to dial local calls even though I had made a toll free call previously. It took the front desk to change something before I could call out. (They tried to tell me that it was long distance to WDW which was just around the corner!)
4) The security latch on the door was broken in half and had to be replaced.
5) The shower drain was slow.
6) Mildew had been painted over, and the paint was flaking off the ceiling above the tub.
I did enjoy my stay, but with the taxes and fees plus the resort fee, my rate was over $35/night...not $24.

Last year we stayed there for our last night in FL. When DH checked in, he was given this long spiel about timeshares, and them wanting to buy our unused tickets, etc... It got to be so annoying the magic we had felt earlier in the day was just gone. We couldn't wait to get out of there fast enough.
After staying on-site at Disney... all DH and I could think of was... ugh... how cheesy! The place looked run-down, the room was ok but kinda cheesy, and the little advertisement packet they give you at check-in made us feel like we went from wonderland to dumpville.
That said... the only way I'd stay there again is if we got it for $20 or under on Priceline. Even then, I'd rather pay the extra money to stay at one of the Downtown Disney resorts. Heck... we got the Doubletree for $44 on Hotwire.

Sorry to hear your experience was so bad! I hate to be overly critical, because my room was pleasant enough to stay in. Plus the old adage you get what you pay for! I just wanted people to be informed if they were paying the $65 per night I had seen on internet websites (travelocity or expedia?) for this property. The safety concerns were fixed promptly and courteously.
At the front desk, there was a woman who was interested in knowing a bit much about me personally and was obviously the timeshare/ ticket seller.. but, I nicely told her upfront that I "had an AP and did not really have time to spend looking at a Timeshare property.... but Thank you for the opportunity, really! Bye now!" :p

Thanks for the review....I'm staying there for a few days this weekend and I'm paying $26/night so I'm ready for the worst, although the problems you listed wouldn't bother me much.

The problems I had were all fixed in about a hour. I probably could have left them "as is", but then the next person would have had to deal with them. Safety issues should not be ignored so, since I was going to rest a bit anyway before heading out for dinner... I did not mind waiting for the maintenance man to fix the problems. I did feel they responded to my concerns in a positive and prompt manner! The front desk man called after every repair to ensure it had been done to my satisfaction. In my dream world, I imagine the "right" way would be for everything to be in perfect repair before check in! LOL! But, if a guest does not report a problem and housekeeping does not notice it... more and more items will be in disrepair at check-in.

Didn't Priceline charge you taxes when you booked through them? I can understand the hotel charging you the resort fee that Priceline didn't, but did they charge you another tax on top of what Priceline charged you?:headache:

No, they did not add any additional taxes at the hotel! Only the $3.50 resort fee. (Which you usually only expect to pay at a resort...) I think most of us realize we are going to pay the 12% state and local taxes. But, you don't think about the $10+ that PriceLine adds as their fee. I haven't read if it is a percentage or a flat rate plus a percentage... it does not impact the rate that much when you are bidding on a Resort Level hotel. But bid $24 per night on a 2*and you'll have to add another 50% to cover all the taxes and additional fees you are charged. (It was the best thing going for a last minute reservation, so I am happy with my rate...) I just wish somehow they could take into consideration the extra resort fees and taxes and let you bid a "bottom line" price! ::yes::
