we loved deck 7 aft. we were in 7629-7631 and 10 steps away from secrect deck. we used the secret deck to read, nap, etc. mainly to escape our cabin--we had an inside stateroom. but, i think you'll still use the secret deck for the reason i did---escape the urge to throw dh overboard:eek: , only kidding!!!! i liked going out there and watching the water coming off the back of the ship as we sailed!:boat: i took pictures, i need to learn how to download them now.......

I've developed a wicked cough since coming back to this cold!

Sounds like some of you just came back from a cruise... We are just about ready to go (2/28/04) on our first Disney cruise, but are expecting to love it.

:earsboy: :earsgirl:

My question is did Disney offer some kind of deal during or after your cruise? And if so, how much of a discount? Was the discount the same % for all types of rooms or was the discount on only some rooms?

:scratchin

Thanks

Any cruise at all....any catagory at all. The current price of whatever cruise, they give you 10% off the current price. They also give you $200 credit per stateroom. It really is a good deal. Before you get on board, think about your next cruise dare and you will be ready to speak with the DCL Rep.

No little mouse and no category 3 either.

We had been thinking about getting a cat 3 and going with my parents. But, mom doesn't want to go. Then, we contemplated taking my little brother (13), but he's trying for the perfect attendance record for all 4 years of middle school, so he already says he doesn't want to miss school next january!!

So, we're sticking with our category 6. Not sure what room we have, guess we'll just have to wait for our docs!

It's not that we were actively trying, but with my history of miscarriages, I have to get on medication shortly after I conceive. So, we go through this each time I'm late.

Anyway, is it crazy that I'm already looking at excursions and trying to decide what we are going to do? I've never had a year to plan a vacation. I can't imagine how many times we'll change our plans and our minds!

How far in advance can you book the MCO Hyatt?

Scratch,
Thanks for asking. MIL is being moved today to another nursing home. She has about 5% brain funtion and the doctors are saying she will most likely never change. It is just sad that she has no idea who is there with her.

The doctors are now saying we will most likely never know what is wrong with Daniel. They are hoping with one more month of medicine (just anti-histimines sp? ) we can then ween him off and all will be well....if not well then back to square one.

Regarding Daniel - this may be a long shot but what kind of Sunscreen did he use? Tanya had mentioned that he reminded her of our first trip to FLA! She also become covered in spots! It had turned out to be the Suncreen. I think if was the Paba or something else that they had just started taking out of the sunscreens.

Just a thought

Disneylover5 - Prayers and Pixie Dust for your DMIL. I agree Disney Trip is good! May it all work out for the best and may she not suffer. Big {{{{{HUG}}}}}

Can't wait for our little getaway! My mother developed pnemonia and it's been awful. She was diagnosed with COPD last year and she knew to stay away from people who are sick. But you can't tell an 80 year old woman how to run her life! I was hoping that this year she would actually make it thru without getting sick but that would have been too good to be true! I'm just happy to be able to have kept her out of the hospital and she is slowly getting better.

Geez, with all my guessing you'd think that I need to get to know my family a little more...lol ;)

Keep in mind that those are their ages now and most of them will be a year older by time our cruise date comes along.

hello to all of the new cruisers. It's been a while, things have been hectic at work and at home. It's pretty much snowed here all week, and I too am putting my Easter decorations out tomorrow. I'll need to dig a path in the snow.

I need to get a countdown clock going, and start planning excursions.

We spent the week before Easter in Orlando, but did not go to any major Disney park.....we heard the lines were 3 hours for rock and roller coaster! We went to Downtown Disney, Seaworld and Typhoon Lagoon. We hung around the pool and had wonderful weather.

Sorry Scratch, don't have any input to offer about the Western Cruise. Our first cruise was the 7 day Land/Sea on the Wonder in 2002, then the Eastern 7 day in 2003. We took this year off because we moved into a new home and just couldn't do it financially. We are so excited about next year, and we have a pretty good size group going so it will be lots of fun. For loads of information on things to do in Cozumel, I've been reading this thread:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=318896

There's a lady who lives there and she offers advice to all of us visiting the island. There's some really great ideas there, especially if you have kids.

On the past two cruises we've opted out of purchasing excursions through the cruise line because they are so expensive when you can essentially do the same things for half the price if not cheaper by going through the locals. I know that some people have bad experiences doing that, but so far we've had great luck. We scored on the Eastern cruise when we got to St. Thomas. We got a van and paid 40.00 per person, less for the kids, and he dropped us off at Sapphire beach - gorgeous, not crowded - then picked us up several hours later and took us for a tour of the island. It was awesome and we saw most of the real island, not just the touristy parts. He stopped at several places for some great photo ops, then we drove to the top of the island, got their famous banana daquiri and back to the ship. It was amazing, and a lot for what we paid. I'm hoping we can get a good deal like that on some of the stops on the Western. We're such penny pinchers!

At least we can all help each other with any info we find out!

I started reading that thread but decided to wait until closer to sailing date. But have already informed DD that Mini Golf is on our list of things to do!

I'm a penny pincher too but sometimes the excitement gets the better of me!LOL

I just transfered our DCL reservation we booked onboard to DU. I kept the same price and 200.00 stateroom credit and was able to get Dreams Unlimited $100.00 off special. They have a special discount till the end of the month. The $$'s off depends on the final price of the cruise. 2000.00 to 3000.00 is 75.00, 3 to 4 is 100.00, 4 to 5 is 150.00 and over 5000.00 is 200.00. More money to spend onboard.

I worked with a John Magi, but when I transfered the reservation it was assigned to a different TA named Tammy. I guess since I was transfering a reservation it goes to the next TA in line. I originally had gotten a price from DU by John and then worked with him on what I needed to do to transfer my reservation. All I needed to do was fill out a transfer form online and a short time later I received an email with a confimation and ID number showing the price and the 100.00 extra credit.

Hey guys! Long time, no post. I haven't posted because I've been really hoping I get to cancel this cruise. I'm pregnant (finally!) and am due in mid-November. It's still early on in the pregnancy, but I've gotten farther along that I have with my last couple of pregnancies. All my hormone numbers look good, so I'm getting more and more optimistic. Of course, that means we'll have to cancel (or postpone) the trip, but I can't even be bummed by that.

DH is afraid of jinxing us, so he doesn't want me to cancel yet. But, as the first day of my second trimester, I'm cancelling. I know, I shouldn't be so excited about cancelling, but since it means such other great things, I can't be too bummed.

Hope you are all doing well and enjoying the return of spring.

I had decided that if the Magic went to California that we would give it a try!

I officially switched our ressie to the August 20 repo cruise. We are going to spend 3 days in Disneyland, 14 days on the cruise going back to FL and then 2 days at WDW!

When I was told the price when I phoned in, I could not resist! Glad I did not wait to think about it! I got one of the reclassified cat 6, 7620! Right now that price is about $3000 more!

I'm so excited! This will be our first cruise and we are going with our best friends celebrating our anniversaries! I've been lurking here for years for our four trips to DW and have learned so much. We look forward to a great cruise. Kids are not very happy with us right now (adult only trip), but we'll plan one with them soon.
Since it appears that many of you have traveled this cruise together before, what can you tell me about the weather at that time in January? Do I need to leave out summer clothes and bathing suits? Or just plan for cooler weather?

Hope everyone is doing okay......I am loving summer weather! We are staying busy with beach trips and working!

We have cruised the last two Jan's. 2 years ago it was chilly on board and windy.....but that was the coldest winter I remember. We were able to wear bathing suits but sweaters at night was a must. Our dat at Castaway Cay was wonderful and warm...but we heard the week before us was FREEZING!

This year we did a 7 day Eastern. It was wonderful weather the entire week, warm, calm, no rain. We swam to our hearts content and wore bathing suits just about everywhere we went (except to dinner). We snorkled several times and the water was fabulous!

I guess I just love getting away so much that no matter what the weather we know we will have a great time!

Welcome to the group....we have gotten smaller as a few have dropped out for CA cruises or health reasons.

Hope everybody is well!

Hi -
We're the Smith family from Atlanta and we SO excited about our upcoming January 2005 Disney cruise!!!

I've sailed on other lines before but my husband and 5-year-old "Disney Princess" have not. I'm actually having to d-r-a-g my DH to do this, but I think once he experiences the whole thing he'll be hooked. Especially with it being Disney!!

We're in 6600. I suppose that's near "The4Nitz's" in 6558, right??!

We welcome any and all tips and pointers !!

Hi Lilac Girl,

My husband was a little apprehensive the first disney cruise as well. Well, 4 cruises later, he let me buy him a Mickey Hawaiian shirt last week at the Disney outlet in Rehobeth Beach DE!!

The food is so "wonder"ful (or do I say "magic"cal)....It is the only vacation I have taken in 10 years when I have really rested.

Welcome to our group....I will have DS16, DS15, DS15, DD11, DD8....so no little ones like you.....I think about our trip and can't wait to go back each time!!

Hi again - Thanks for the warm welcome!

I am so excited about this trip. I've cruised on Carnival and Norwegian, but I imagine they pale in comparison to Disney!! My hubby's only cruise experience was a party boat to the Bahamas -which is why it was a real effort getting him to commit!! haha I'm doing all I can to make it a "magical," relaxing vacation.

I have tons of questions! This seems like a great place to get them answered!! (I did read the PassPorter's Guide to DCL which was wonderful.)

Some questions are:

Are all of the pools open when you first board, or just certain ones?

Which place is better to grab lunch on the first day after boarding? I believe Topsiders or Parrot Cay are the choices <?>

Is each cabin able to eat at Palo's for dinner AND brunch, or must you choose one or the other? I'm REALLY wanting to impress the hubby with Palo's, so ANY suggestions/tips on the Palo's experience would be welcomed! :)

Which show(s) are not to be missed? And which show(s) could you do without?

What is the ONE THING that I should definitely do on the cruise/islands?? You know, that one "do not miss" thing...? :)

And finally (for now), how much beer/wine can you bring on board? Does it have to be packed in a suitcase or can I simply carry on cases of beer? (Trying to save money here!!)

Hmmm, I'm sure I'll think of some more questions...and I do appreciate any of your suggestions.

I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Cricket!! I will try to answer the best that I can..........
I am pretty sure that all of the pools are open when you first board. We boarded early(about noon) and went and ate at topsiders(yummy buffet, good kids choices too), registered the little ones at the club and flounders, and then ran to the mickey pool for a little bit . By the time we took care of all of that we had maybe 20 minutes to swim before the drill.
Palos is amazing. We loved it. We had ressies for both brunch and dinner, but only used the dinner ressies. We cancelled brunch because we were very tired.
We loved the show Dreams the best.We did't see too many of the shows. The theater is beautiful. Make sure that you get there 15 minutes at least before the show for good seats.
I am looking into excursions, too. We were on the eastern this year so we dont know which ones yet either.I have been to key west and cozumel. I will tell you that in Cozumel you should go to Excaret. It is am amazing eco park with lagoons, underground rivers, dolphin swims, etc. It is paradise. I just looked it up in the passporter--it is a Disney excursion for $99/79. Well worth it!!!We want to do our excursion on Grand Cayman.Any suggestions??
When we boarded, we brought on a feel bottles of vodka and wine. They were in a nice tote bag wrapped in paper. We didnt use it all. We liked the drink of the day specials, too.
I hope that eveyone is doing good!!! We are just getting the kids back in school.....take care!!

I am so excited I can't stand it and we still have about 5 months to go! DS(4) and DD(2) are being inundated with Disney in preparation for the cruise.l.. not that they're complaining! I'm having so much fun picking up Disney items already in anticipation of their Christmas being Disney filled. I found on ebay the plush ship with cruising Mickey, Minnie, Donald & Pluto beanies to have under the tree. I could go on and on!

But most importantly, I'm on a mission to potty train DD(2) well before the cruise so she can participate with her brother in the kids' club. DH and I are keeping our fingers crossed for a little adult vacation time.

And I can't wait for a spa massage. Should I spring for the extra cost of a CC massage??? Hmmm...

Can't wait to meet everyone.

Awesome MamaCrush! You sound as excited as I am!

I'll have to check out that Disney cruise ship plush - what a great idea. I bought some beach towels at the Disney store online for about $5. Those will be part of the surprise basket I'm planning...

Have you had a postcard sent to the kids yet? My DD (age 5) got hers from "Cinderella" and took it to show and tell! What a cool thing for the DIS board members to do!!

MamaCrush - We are not having much luck potty training either. We ask her if she needs to go, her answer is "No Thank You". She even changes her own pullup, when she is wet. We tell her, she has to use the potty to go in the Mickey Pool. She had alot of fun playing in the one ear on our last cruise.

Hi Everyone!

Hope everybody is okay. After all of the hurricanes this year, I remember now why I like sailing in Jan!!

We live in Northern VA and we had what is left of Ivan come though here yesterday and today. My neighborhood had a tornado....I thought the weather looked like it was getting really bad so I made the 5 kids that were in my house go to the basement bathroom with my 80 year old mom. I was looking out the window upstairs when my my ears started popping very badly. I ran for the basement and with in a minute it was all over. Trees uprooted, cars moved, grills out in the street, a loud roar, it was really scary. The girls were crying and my mom was not happy. Anyway, no damage to the house....and for the most part neighbors houses are okay....just a lot of chain saws going all day long today.

I wish I could be on Mickey's boat now....but I guess it will come soon enough,

Have a good week,
Lisa

I am sure we will go fishing again.

All you experienced DCL'rs, can you advise on a couple of questions?

First, I have read all over about Palo, so I know what it is. What I don't know is when/if I should go. The brunch sounds great, so we will try for that for sure. Dinner is the question. I have seen posts that say "go for sure" and other posts that say "I wouldn't skip a rotation dinner if I were you". So why is Palo that much better for dinner than a rotational dinner?

Second, I have 2 kids DS4 and DS6. I plan on getting them in the children's programs. Is it a "drop in" type program where they can participate when and as long as we determine or is it set hours?

Thanks! Just trying to "maximize" the experience!!!

disneylover5
09-22-2004, 07:42 PM
We went on two DCL cruises without going to Palo. Last Jan, we decided to make the effort to go. We went for dinner and loved it. We would go again....the problem is there is just too much food. Pace yourself so you can try each item. I think brunch sounds really good as well and think we will try that this time around.

We have used the children's programs each time we have cruised. You get a brouchure when you sign up at the beginning of the cruise. That way you and your child can pick and choose the activities and times. They also give you a pager for the entire cruise, so if your child needs or wants you while in the programs, they can page you and you can always be in touch. The programs are nice and my kids enjoyed them.

DisneyLover5,

Thanks for the link. One more question for all. My DW was under the impression that you needed to pick you children up for meals. The Navigator shows meals. Will they feed your kids for you? I ask this not to dodge the kids of course, but to maybe have a nice dinner with my DW!

disneylover5
09-23-2004, 07:42 AM
Oh yes, they will feed your kids. My kids loved this part...having meals with their buddies. You can not pick up or drop off during meal time though, so you have to make sure they are there on time. They go up to Topsiders on Deck 9 and get to pick whatever they want to eat.

We are on the Jan 29, 2005 western, our first time on DCL. Our DD princess: will be almost 5 then, are there any families with a DD this age? we are on Deck 7. She is so looking forward to the camp (so is my DH and I we hope to have some alone time).

This is a great forum, have gotten a lot of info not in the DCL packets. The list for what to bring is very helpful, but what is the duct tape for LOL.

Can anyone recommend any of the excursions for us in Cozamel, DH wants to see the ruins but not sure if DD can make the hike, how tough is it?

We will be going to WDW after the cruise, will the DCL bus take us to the hotel; staying at PC; instead of MCO? or do we have to arranged other transportation (not renting a car). Any other info will be great, we are so excited to be going on DCL and can hardly wait!!

Hi all-

To the4nitz's and mommy2mrb (and others), we have a 5yo daughter, too. I think my DD would be more excited about the oceaneer club if she had "friends" going. Is there a way for the girls to "meet" prior to the cruise? Maybe share photos? Ideas anyone??

I've been to Cozumel several times, but always as a "single" - meaning late nights at "Carlos and Charlies" and "Senior Frogs!" FUN!! ** I think on this trip we're going to go to Chankanaab (sp?) and do the dolphin encounter. I wanted to do the Royal Dolphin Swim, but my DD is too young and the Swim and Encounter are at different times. My DD loves dolphins so I think this will be thrilling...for all of us! Look for info about it at the web site dolphindiscovery, but you can book the trip through dcl.

BTW, this board is an AWESOME place to get tips on the cruise. I also highly recommend the book "Passporter's Guide to DCL." I learned so much!!

And be sure to have a pre-cruise postcard sent to your daughter. Mine got hers from "Cinderella" saying how she was excited about meeting my DD on the ship. My DD was thrilled!!!!!! Even took it to show-and-tell at school I think the link to get the postcards is one of the first posts on this board.

Counting down the days!!

Mommy2mrb,
You can defintiely arrange transportation to the Parks/Hotels through DCL. They offer a special minivan instead of the large bus. Give them a call.
I've been lurking for the last week as we haven't put down a deposit for this cruise yet. We are hoping FL Resident rates will be offered and released soon. This will be my 7th Disney Cruise if all works out. My dad passed away suddenly and unexpectedly a month ago today. Although he wasn't the big Disney fan in the family, he loved cruising and travelling the world. My mom thought it would be a good idea for the family to cruise as a tribute to my dad - since there will be children along (and my obsession influencing) we decided to do Disney. Although my tag states that I am back in Colorado, his passing caused me to pack up my house and spend at least this year helping my mother to adjust. So, after the tragedy of his passing, 4 hurricanes and flooding, we need this to hold onto.

Pixie Dust to all,
Dawn

Dawn,

I hope can cruise with us. This is our 4th....we love Disney. I am sorry to hear of your loss as well. Back in the begining of this thread I was struggling with my DMIL.....she was so sick. My DH (he is a minister) and DS15 were on mission work overseas this summer when she finally passed. We could not get them a flight out of where they were and it was kind of a mess......My DFIL stayed with her during the day and I stayed with her in the evenings and into the night. She was at a special care facility...but we did not want her to alone. It was certainly a blessing...but we miss her. She loved Disney and we had cruised with her before. My DM (age 80) and DFIL (age 70) are coming with us......should be quite a trip.

I am looking for girls..you say there will be children with you.....me too. DS16, DS15, DS15, DD11, DD8.....any girls? DrJoe has a DD12 and we are hoping to get them together on the internet to meet before the cruise!

Are most of you staying at the Radisson the night before?

We were booked there but, since we're coming in a full day ahead, changed it to Ron Jon's because the water park looked so cool! (hope it really is...)

A pre-cruise meet, as well as sharing pics of the kids so they could have familiar faces, would be a fun idea.

We're driving in the day before from North Carolina and haven't decided yet where we'll stay. A lot will depend on when we plan to arrive and whether or not we think it will be warm enough that time of year for the kids to enjoy a pool. We plan to drive back home right after leaving the boat. :( DH's idea... not mine!

Mama Crush,
We are leaving DC Friday noon and plan to drive as far as GA, I think. We will get up early Sat morning and finish up on the way to PC. We also are driving straight back to DC on Sat when we get off the ship, at least that is the plan. My husband is a minister and does not want to miss 2 Sunday's in a row. We can't let the older boys miss any more school than they already are.

So to make up, I am thinking of driving down around Christmas and "doing Disney"......my kids are in on it...but no one has told DH yet.

Hi cricket.....I too thought of doing a really nice resort so that we can enjoy a day in the pool etc.... I even rented a convertible but changed it to a regular. When I went on my first disney cruise this past January it was freezing in Orlando. Did I just have bad luck or is Orlando always cold in January???

We are flying down on Friday, get into Orlando around 6:30pm, staying in Orlando & driving to port on Saturday morning. Flying back home on Saturday after we get off the boat. I am already putting the DD's clothes aside for the trip. Shopping end of season sales. DD5-Makenna would like to get to know the other kids on board. Mama Crush -having any luck potty training, DD2-Alaina (turns 3 - 1 week after we cruise)is still telling us "No, use potty". But hopefully, by cruise time she will be potty trained.

Clarry--

Excrutiatingly slow on the PT project. I'm about to pull out the big gun-- she can't go in the Mickey Pool unless she uses the potty! But first I want to make sure she watches A LOT of the Cruise DVD so she get's really hyped up out the pool. Then I'll tell her Mickey won't let her go in unless she's using the potty! I'll let him be the bad guy :p.

Short of that, come December I'll let her run around the house naked and invest in a lot of carpet/upholster cleaner... :o And don't think I'm kidding!

Tell Makenna that my DS(3 mos. shy of being 5 at the time of cruise) will be looking for playmates (when he isn't taking his DS to the potty :), that is!). His name is Brosnan.

For those of you spending Friday night at the port, where are you staying?

Ok, you knew it was coming...

My DW has mapped out all of our excursions and I wanted some opinions from you seasoned vets.

Key West - On our own

Grand Cayman (If we still go) - Myself & DS6 - Stingray City Reef Sail & Snorkel. - I LIVE to Snorkel!
DW & DS4 - Stingray City Observatory & Island Tour

Cozumel - Me & DS6 - Chankanaab Sea Lion Discovery & Snorkel Tour or Reef Snorkel - Did I say I LIVE to snorkel?
DW & DS4 - Chankanaab Seal Lion Discovery - We can be together after the snorkeling.

Castaway Cay - All of us - Castaway Cay Getaway Package - I just may end up snorkeling again!

Let me know if any of these are big time disappointers or if I am flat out missing something great!

Sorry, I am talking about Priority Seating at WDW we are staying at PC after the cruise for a week. Hope to get one of the princess breakfast's for DD and dinner with Cinderella and Prince Charming at GF (I want to meet the prince :Pinkbounc )

DH and I have decided to renew our wedding vows while at Key West; we hope to do it at sunset; so we will probably go on our own before the ceremony.
Haven't totally decided on excursions for Grand Caymen and Cozumel as of yet.

Those of you with the kids around 5, what dinner seating do you have, we have the late one, are on the wait list to change but am now thinking twice about it. Any thoughts on those of you who have been on the DCL before?

Thanks,
Lisa

Cricket538

Renewing your vows sounds amazing! Who's setting that up for you? Disney?

As for dinner, we chose early seating...and here's my reasoning:

1) my daughter is less likely to be cranky and tired during dinner, meaning a more enjoyable time for us parents!

2) At late seating, we'd STILL have to be dressed and ready at 6:30 in order to see the shows. In other words, Late seating wouldn't give us more time to lounge around the pool, etc...

3) I'd have a little extra time to "burn" off the calories at night!

And a week in DW after the cruise, now I really AM jealous!!

Pre-cruise plans for us are to drive from Atlanta to the Port on Saturday. We're booked to stay at Ron Jon's...

Actually found some websites through Key West and contacted one of them (a lot cheaper than Disney's package) we can have it on the beach at sunset.

This trip has been in the works for 3 years (DH is going to a convention the last part of our WDW week) so will also be a biz trip (Yea! write-off)

MamaCrush,
You are exactly right. About 18 months ago when we were on DCL #1 (this upcoming is #4!) I looked at my oldest son and realized I have less time left with him at home than I did before he went to Kindergarten. He turned 14 on that cruise. I vowed to myself that we would spend the next 4 years together as a family as much as possible. We have since cruised with DCL several times, run away to hotels in the middle of nowhere, taken a day off school and work just to be together. Most of you have young children, and I do too (DD10 and DD8). I am just going to miss my DS15 like crazy when he goes off to college.

These cruises are a great place to run away from "real" life for a week and just be together and have fun.

I want to go now!

We have the late seating for dinner and DH has now informed me he only wants to go to 3 dinners in the dining rooms and keep the other nights casual. Of the families with the younger kids 3-5 our DD is 4/12 when are you dining.

Also does anyone know which order the live shows are in? will help us plan our excursions since we will be going to the early ones.

Lisa,
You wanted to know what days the shows were. Here is a link to the Navigators so you can see what is available when.

http://www.dcltribute.com/navigators/west_carib/daily.htm

We too wanted casual.....so we did that in the dining room. It can be as fancy or as casual as you want. With DS16, DS15, DS15, DD10, DD8....it HAS to be casual...to many kids (boys) to be anything else. It is a sin to miss the dining room experience and only go 3 days. The servers go with you from dining room to dining room and are the most wonderful people you will meet on board. Please do not think you need to dress up. I let my kids were shorts (boys) collar shirts and sneakers. They were right in place.

My name is Lisa too!

We too have had success with DD2 potty training thanks to the Mickey Boat! She had an accident this weekend because she was too busy playing, and we made a big deal about not being able to swim in the Mickey Pool and that Mickey would be very disappointed. In fact, we "called" Mickey and told him! Then, the next time she used the potty, she told me to call Mickey and tell him! Oh... and she wanted him to tell Goofy, too.

An unexpected benefit to booking the cruise!!

We are in the home stretch..... You are right about the time flying now with the holidays between now and the cruise. We cruised the same week last year (eastern) and had just enough time to take down the tree and pack before we had to leave. We are thinking about staying at Ron Jons near the port for a few days before the cruise instead of HIFS(for a change). Who is staying there? Where did you book thru? What have you heard about this resort?Does anyone have a 5-6 year old that would like to chat with my 5 year old ciara? Boy or girl.....she would be thrilled with either! Eveyone-STAY HEALTHY!!!! Hey -
We are staying at Ron Jon's the night before. Hope to arrive around noon and have time to enjoy the pool.

We chose Ron Jon's because of the lazy river, water slides and the fact that we can walk (or catch shuttle) to the beach. They've also got a cool indoor chuck e cheese type playground.

There's a lot of info on it at DCLTribute web site.

We've checked and they will allow us to park there (free) during the cruise. They have a shuttle service to the port, but we may take a taxi.

We have a 5-yo daughter!!

Wondering.... How was the weather that time of year? Was it "swimmable"?????

(Obviously you liked it 'cause you booked again that time of year!)

mariamard
11-16-2004, 11:26 AM
Let me tell you...the weather on the cruise was mid 70's to lower 80s. We stay in Orlando and do the parks (which it gets cool at night)but the day it is usually ok to swim. But the whole cruise, we swam. No hurricane threats which also is a huge plus. The waves are minimal. The price is a heck of alot cheaper. And we are from Chicago which makes the 70-80s seem like 100's :) .No rain, either. A few late sprinkles. I have been to Cozumel in Jan and everytime it was in the mid 80s. Key West was in the mid 70s in Jan when Iwas there a few years ago.....So, the weather will be great!Where did you book Ron Jons? Did you call the resort direct? I just cancelled HIFS.
What is your daughters name? Ciara would love to 'know' some kids again before we cruise!

In fact, I had mentioned to him a while back that a little girl named Makenna would be on the Mickey Boat and they could play together. Well, from time to time when we talk about the trip he mentions Makenna's name!

Aeris (DD3) will also be going and she plays much "bigger" than 3!

I haven't done a countdown chain yet... will wait until the day after Christmas. I may get some Mickey paper at the local scrapbook store to do it.

And I was so proud of DH! He said to me that Mickey needs to buy the kids a present for under the tree with a note saying how he's looking forward to seeing them on the cruise. I was so proud of him getting into the spirit of things! Almost brought a tear to my eye... ;)

Maybe we should try posting pictures of our kids to show the others so they can start putting names with faces and getting to "know" each other before they arrive. I'll see if I can figure out how to do that with Aeris' and Brosnan's pix.

We're staying at the Hampton Inn in Cocoa Beach the night before. We got a really good online rate-- $107. From what I understand it's not far from the port. We considered Ron Jons, but we won't be getting in I don't think until 5-6 pm Friday night, so we really wouldn't have a chance to use the resort area. Anyone know anything about the Hampton Inn?

I am glad to hear a lot of you like the count down chain, Megan loves doing it.

Megan loves playing with older and younger kids (I have nicknamed her Mommy Megan) since she likes to "take care" of the little ones in our playgroup.

Just paid off the cruise (FINALLY) yesterday and made excursions ressies for DH Jim for parasailing on Castaway and the Tulum Ruins on Cozumel (anyone else going to Tulum?) Megan is too young for that tour, so we might stay on board or was thinking of doing the Sea Lion discovery (anyone going to that?). Will do our own thing for Grand Caymen and Key West, but will also be renewing our vows there at sunset.

Megan is so excited about her formal dress, got all the accessories to go with it.

Hi all! Hi DisneyLover! I just figured out the "avatar". What is the skunk's name from Bambi - ah "Flower", just came to me. OK, so maybe not the perfect fit for me but cute anyhow. If I knew what I was doing, there would be something "Hawaii" there (my dream trip). But Flower will do for now.

Getting excited about the trip (1st Disney cruise), but it's going to be here so fast with all the holidays in between. Already worried about being depressed once it's over.

Got a 9 YO girl and 7 YO boy going, thinking of talking to counselors about placing DS in Lab w/DD. DisneyLover--my DD has been telling everyone about her new friends. (Thanks for desktop pic.)

Can't wait to just lay in the sun and take it all in!!!!

I have learned after cruise depression is solved by only one thing, that is re-booking while on board.....even if you end up cancelling is gets you through that first month back. You do need a deposit for each cruiser......re-booking does give you a 10% discount and $200 onboard credit!

disneylover5- I know what your saying! Last night as a matter of fact, my husband and I were trying to figure out which week to rebook in 2006 while onboard. He was as sad, if not MORE depressed than the rest of us when it was time to leave. He said that rebooking made it a little easier.Plus, the perks help:) .

Mamacrush-I went on "tropical" night. We figured that we were tropical every other day and night:) . We also went on the night that we would have eaten at AP a second night. We will most likely do the same this time.

We are getting very antsy to go.......................STAY HEALTHY!!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

We have already booked a cruise for 1-21-06 - eastern. So there will be very little post cruise depression when we got off. We will check the prices while we are on board & if we can get a better deal we will cancel & re-book.

We live about 50 miles from Disney land, we will have to try and get together when you come out at Easter.

I don't think we will be booking another cruise, hopefully buying a new house next year, so that will take a HUGE priority on our spending.

We did go snorkling last time and the fishing trip on Castaway Cay was fabulous! We will go fishing again!

Whoohoo only 60 days until we leave :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Cal Adventure is a lot of fun, quiet different from MK, more shows (Aladdin is GREAT) and rides for older kids, but has Bugs Land with 5-6 rides for little ones, ferris wheel, carousel, great roller coasters too. Its very easy to do in one day. The old Electric Light Parade is also there at night for any of the old timers, brought back a lot of memories for me from my first Disneyland trip in 1975.

I haven't stayed in either hotel, but both at very nice. Disneyland hotel is the original so much older, (Goofy's Kitchen has fun character meals) and Paradise Pier has Minnie and Friends breakfast. both within walking distance of the parks and downtown Disney. It is much more congested than the world since its smack dab in the middle of Anaheim, so staying on property is a good option. You are also within 1 hour of Universal Studios, 20 minutes of Knotts Berry Farm and about 1 1/2 hours from Legoland.

PM me if you'd like more info on Disneyland and surrounding areas, we hope to go this Saturday, Megan has been working very hard on stopping her thumb sucking and we are going to celebrate that and get a little "Christmas Mouse Magic".

The Sunday DIS meet would be great!!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!!

Just spent yesterday at Disneyland and Mickey said to tell everyone hi!! He is very excited to hear we will be going on the cruise with him, sent a special hello to Owen, Ciara, Brosnan, Aeris, Makenna, Alaina, Jack and Joe. Megan had a wonderful time and was given a special hug to share with all the kids and Mickey was so proud that Megan had stopped sucking her thumb :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

We took the Discover the Magic Tour (I think they are running it in WDW also) it was a fun tour, if anyone wants more info PM me.

But......rest assured, in 32 or so days....we will be in warm warm tropics.....and even if its not 80 or 90....it will be so much better than the weather we are leaving......

disneylover-i have our excursions booked and have changed two of them already. get them booked we wanted catamaran sail in key west. it was sold out two weeks ago. i've heard stingrays are awesome from MANY people. i was told that dolphin discovery can be chin high water and might not be good for younger kids. i didn't want to hold my 6 y.o. the whole time so we picked a snorkle excursions. i thought i'd be more disappointed but...anything will be awesome!

mariamaid-glad you said that about the week we picked. i wanted a off-rush week. pay less and less people. daughter is rachel. she'll be at the lab on sunday afternoon as soon as it opens. i have a feeling(from what i've been told) that we will have to drag here away from there?

about rebooking- i've seen there is a 10% discount and a $200 stateroom credit for doing it while we are onboard. anything else i need to look for?

as for a meet up? i am in! just tell me where and when..think it's best to let the experienced pick the spot/time. :earboy2:

DOCS stands for your cruise documents from Disney to get on the ship. They are sent from Disney to your travel agent who then sends them to you. They arrive anywhere from 10 days out, up to 30 days. Seems to be about 2-3 weeks right now.

njdrumrun
01-02-2005, 11:37 PM
is it normal to get my excursion stuff before my DOCS?

as for dinner seating...my husband's boss is cruising the same week. his kids are 13 & 16. they want to sit with us. my thought was for my daughter(6 y.o.) sitting with kids her own age. kids she might be spending time with at the lab. how flexiable is the seating without going to the buffet?

disneylover5
01-03-2005, 08:39 AM
Dinner seating is not very flexible. In order to sit together, you should contact Disney now and ask. The seating is all pre-arranged before the cruise starts.

If you are both scheduled for early or late seating now, they may be able to arrange it. The kids can always eat in the clubs.....my kids like that...eating with their friends.

If you can not arrange to sit with your husbands boss, maybe you can schedule one meal at Palo together. That would be a very special treat!

This is our second cruise (We took the Eastern in 11/02). We are staying in room 7594 (we were in 7060 last time, but it was already taken for this cruise). We live in San Diego and are annual passholders to Disneyland - we are big Mickey fans!

We did the Disney excursions last time but thinking about trying our own this time. Has anyone signed up for the Dolphin Encounter on their own, or Stingray City? What tour companies are you using? I want to minimize the walking from the dock, if possible, because of the kids.

Yes, these are examples of the Western....but they are very close to what we will get in our stateroom each night.

Like, if you want to sign up for Palo...or hairbraiding....you can look on here to have a good idea of what you need to do. The shows are pretty much the same night by night as what you see here.

Also on the DCLTRIBUTE you can look at the kids club stuff. Here is the 3-4 year old one....you can click around from here and find the other ages, if you are interested.

My first post, but thanks to all for providing so much information. We're doing our first cruise with the kids, and are eagerly searching for a 7-8 y.o. girl for my older daughter to meet. Thanks to Maria, my little one (5) is now bursting to meet her newfound friend. If there's a 7-8 y.o. out there looking for company, please feel free to contact me.

On the question end, since Lumiere's is more "dressy," what happens if your scheduled night there is NOT on a formal/semiformal night? Should we be ready for possibly 3 nights in nicer attire?

Again, thanks everyone for all the info...
