Pop Century Hotel Opening Delayed

I just read from the Orlando Sentinal that Disney just announced they are delaying the opening of the new Pop Century hotel from December 2001 until March of 2002. They stated that Construction is on schedule but they want to wait so more ammenities are available to guests.

Disney is in the process of calling those with reservations to make other arrangements.

We have made reservations for Pop Century for 19 Mar 2002 through to 02 April 2002. Has there been any update on this delay? :( :( :(

Don't take this as gospel, but I understand the new opening date to be March 8.

I can't wait for them to finish that Monopoly board courtyard. I'm dying to sneak my Scottish Terrier onto it for pictures......

Might this have something to do with the rumored drop in occupancy rates at all WDW hotels? Why open 1000+ more rooms when you can't fill the ones you already have? They may be waiting to see if business picks up with the 100 Year celebration in the fall. "Waiting for ammenities" seems like a pretty lame excuse.

It is the use of the word ammenties that seems confusing. When I think of a hotel this usually means things like the pool, tennic courts, etc.

Are they saying that the rooms themselves are on schedule, but not the above. Or are they referring more to lack of critical supporting infrastructure (utilities access, roadways, transportation)?

My sources have indicated to me that the reason for the delay has to do with the construction of the swimming pool.
