On the NYC region's news, there was a story yesterday or the day before about how a woman went through security with a knife and some other unacceptable weapon. She was abound for a Spirit Air flight out west. I can't recall the entire report, but the impression I got was that the airline had not checked carefully enough. (Or was that my fear listening?) I recall the upshot was that there was going to be some investigation as to how that ended up happening.

I learned last month on these boards that they have 20 year old planes, or something.

I'm getting a terrible case of the heebie-geebies about this all.

I've flown many times on various airlines. I did not think twice about going with this airline that was new to me, but now, even after paying for it, I'm beginning to wonder.

Did anyone else hear that news story? Has anyone else flown Spirit?

Please let me hear from you.

THanks.

KIS

I wouldn't have any concern regarding Spirit as a result of the issue of the woman with the stun gun and knife boarding the plane. The individual airlines don't have anything to do with the security that is supposed to detect such things. There is nowhere in the process where an individual airline checks it's passengers bags. If a person gets thru the metal detectors and their bags make it thru the xray machine at security then that person could board any airline. This issue had nothing to do with Spirit.

I agree with the other poster. It has nothing to do with the airline. It is the TSA that missed them.

I've yet to travel since 9/11. Now I recall how it was going to be set-up. That makes sense. Thanks. KIS

I wouldn't worry. We flew out of JFK after 9/11, and are flying out of LGA on 2/27. If anything when we flew out of JFK we felt more secure. Nothing like a few National guardsman with machine guns to calm your nerves. Security checks at JFK we fine, breezed right thru.

Security is done by the TSA not the airline.

Spirit does fly older aircraft that has been sold by other airlines. If that concerns you try a different airline.
