View Full Version : Can I ask you a personal question?

I hope this doesn't come off being a "gross" inappropriate question but....
Do you sweat when you work out?

I did a two mile "Walk Away The Pounds" workout yesterday with pants and a sweatshirt. After 30 minutes...not one drop! I was watching the ladies with a tank top on sweating away and there I was dry as a whistle.

I dance 1 hour Wed. night and never a drop! I go in telling the teacher, "Make me sweat"..but that doesn't do anything!

Am I still burning calories? What's the deal?

It is funny that you post this as a workout friend and I were just talking about this today. It is our experience that the more fit you are the more you sweat and from what my friend said she has read that the way you sweat is hereditary. Not sure if the first part applies to all, but it does in the case of my friend and I.

I don't know about the fit thing, but I can sure tell you that it is hereditary. I sweat like a pig! I wish I had the problem of not sweating (or at least not so much!):p When I do my workout in lightweight pants and tank top, I'm SOAKED! Oh well, we are each a little different. That's what makes us so special!:sunny:

OMG! I was doing the WATP 2 mile last nigh and I was thinking the same thing!!!

I too was not sweating and wondered if I wasn't working hard enough.

When I do sweat, it tends to be at my brow and underarms. I don't seem to sweat anyplace out.

Here's how sweat works -

Everyone is different!! Some people sweat some people don't. As long as your heart rate is hitting target you should be fine. Also if you pay really close attention those WATP walkers on the screen will start to shimmer before they even start to walk. Those studio lights are bright!!

I almost never sweat working out. I don't even sweat much when its piping hot and humid outside(lucky me huh). I just started the 1 mile WATP myself yesterday. I didn't worry about sweating, i just wanted the tape to get my hate going which it did.

My son and daughter both took karate lessons for 3.5 years. DS always ended up soaked and DD, no matter how hard she worked (and she worked HARD!) never got sweaty. It's just the way she's made, I guess.

I'd say your heart rate is a much better indicator of how hard you're working out than the "sweat factor".

I sweat like there's no tomorrow ... heck, I sweat carrying a basket of laundry to the basement  I've always been this way, which is why I was on the SWIM team in highschool ... nobody knew how much I sweated :teeth:

In order to get my "walking" in, I may need to start doing it at lunch, which just doesn't appeal to me (or will appeal to those who have to sit near me in the afternoon ;) )

Usually I don't sweat, but I live in the Caribbean, so that's probably because I'm used to the heat and humidity. :sunny:

I agree with the others. As long as your heart rate is in the target zone, you're burning calories. There are charts saying what's the right zone for your age, but if you're keeping up with the pace on the tapes, you're almost certainly in the target zone.

I usually do sweat with the tapes, and I'm probably an average sweater (oooh, can't believe I said that!!)
