the Disney 1/2 marathon (I registered and everything :teeth: ) and today I ran a 5K!!!!!! I am so psyched!! I have been working on the ellipitical since Nov and had my physical last Mon. I have lost 12 lbs, blood pressure and cholesterol were great and I was given the green light to run.
Something my doc said (he is a marathon runner) that hadn't occurred to me was that I need to change shoes every 500 miles. That is fairly often but he said the shoes loose spring and thus protection for joints in a very short time. I got a new pair on Fri and I could really tell the difference today.
Anyway, I just wanted to say hurray, I am on my way!!

 Hi there Mrs.V! Will you be joining us WISHers then in 2005 at the great event?
Sounds like you have yourself on the way to living healthier. Congratulations to you!
We could enjoy meeting you and having you as part of the group if you would join us.
And, what about WISH? Are you a WISH member too then? Sorry if I don't know. I don't always stay long enough to chat with everyone. You have good advice and I just thought it might be great to hear more as you go along.

Thanks for the Welcome Tiger Lily!
I have not officially joined WISH or the group that is walking. I am not on a "Diet" per se, I have been there, done that and they just don't work for me. My metabolism is really wacky after having thyroid disease when I was younger so anytime I go on a lo-cal plan, my body screams "FAMINE" and shuts down. The only thing that works for me is consistent hard exercise.
I plan to run the entire 1/2 marathon, v e r y slowly :teeth: but run none the less. Right now, I am following a modified plan from the "Runner's World" web site. That plan is for 16-18 weeks but I much longer so I am going slower. I am running twice during the week, one day alternative cardio and then a long run on the weekends. So far so good!
Thanks again!

WISH = We Intend to Stay Healthy...or something of that nature. While many are "dieting" that is not necessarily a requirement to being part of this wonderful group. You might be encouraged by all that goes on here. At any rate, I think we would find a value to your information and encouragement. Thanks for the tip about Runners Wrold.
