Last year our our first night we stayed at POR and drove over to Ohana's at the Polynesian. We had a great dinner, window seat and fireworks. Boat parade afterward on the beach. A wonderful first evening.

This year we're staying at the BWV as new DVC owners. We would love to begin our vacation with a great dinner again and some magic again. Should we return to Ohana's or are there great places around the Boardwalk with views of illuminations? Anyone other suggestions would be appreciated!

None of the restaurants at BW would have an actual view of Illuminations. You could see it if you were walking on the Boardwalk. You would have to eat in Epcot to get an Illuminations view over dinner.

I always like to recommend the Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club for a first night dinner. The atmosphere is really enjoyable, and the selection of food is pretty good.

It would be a nice walk around the lake from the Boardwalk. That whole area is really pretty in the evening.

The best meal of our September trip to BWI was at Flying Fish Cafe. It was expensive but the service was unlike anything I've ever experienced at Disney or otherwise. We had two wheelchairs in our party and this is sometimes a frustrating situation for the CM's(or servers in any restaurant) but they were all awesome here and went out of their way to make us comfortable. The food was to die for, with primarily fresh seafood dishes and a wonderful strip steak and the atmosphere superb. I am hungry for a Peeky Toe Crab Cake just thinking about it.

I second the Flying Fish. My DH and I went there by ourselves in July and it was out of this world. We sat at the counter area in front of the chef's preparing the salmon and incredible steaks. Our server was fantastic and it is now our favorite restaurant at WDW. We went again in December with our son, thought he would totally love sitting at the counter and watching them prepare the food, but he was without a nap that day:( so not much was making him happy. He did finally fall asleep across our laps while sitting at the counter and woke up and was pleasant again.

Afterwards you can always walk into Epcot to see Illuminations:D

Enjoy the BWV, it is our favorite resort. We just love walking to Epcot and MGM and love spending our nights sitting on our balcony watching the fun on the Boardwalk:D

If you are a meat eater I would suggest "The Yachtsman Steakhouse" at the Yacht Club. We ate there 1/5/2004 and as usual it was a great meal from the service to the food, perfection all the way around.
