The Hungry Cast:

DH: Generally gets his way; not very picky, though he doesn’t have to be if he generally gets his way. OK…edited to add we usually defer the dining decision to him anyway

Me: A little picky; occasionally adventurous, budget-minded

DS10: Wants to try new things; “eyes bigger than his tummy”; refuses to order off the kid’s menu

DD7: Constantly hungry; sticks with basic kid stuff; would snack continuously if we didn’t provide other diversions

Well, here's the final installment...

Boma (AKL)

I really debated about where to use the breakfast vouchers we got with our park passes…our first choice was Crystal Palace in the MK but they couldn’t be used there. We finally decided on Boma so we could check out the AKL, which we’d never seen. The restaurant seemed pretty busy (our PS was for 9:30 on 12/21, a Sunday), but we waited only about 10 min. or so for a table and were seated near the buffet.

The special juice (frunch) was yummy, and the buffet was well stocked with something for all. The kids ate mostly pastries and fresh fruit, bacon, and I think DD also had a waffle. DH had a made-to-order omelet (ham, cheese, green peppers) which he said was good. I loved this meal! I was adventurous and tried some of the African specialties…the bobotie (kind of a breakfast casserole which included eggs, corned beef and potato) and the pork loin. I really enjoyed them both, as well as the other, more standard fare I tried. We had a very nice server, who was attentive but unobtrusive. I was worried about using the vouchers, but there were no problems whatsoever. I would definitely return to Boma. DH was a bit lukewarm about it, however (he says “it was just breakfast…”). We all enjoyed looking around the AKL lobby and the observation areas.

Pecos Bills (MK)

We had a good, quick lunch here before grabbing a spot to watch the Christmas parade. DS and I finally got smart and shared a chicken wrap—they were huge and filled us both. Tasted pretty good too, as I recall. DH and DD had cheeseburgers (one with bacon) and fries. We spent about $21 on this meal. I’ll mention this now as I haven’t before…we don’t usually order drinks with our meals, preferring to drink the bottled water that we carry with us. It saves us quite a bit of $$, and we’re not big soda drinkers anyway.

Cheesecake Factory Express (Disney Quest)

We made it a point to stop here (cheesecake lovers that we are, LOL!) during our otherwise so-so trip to DQ. DH, DD, and DS all ordered the original cheesecake, and I had the brownie sundae version—very rich and decadent. We were in cheesecake heaven! DH even wanted to make another trip to DQ a few days later to have more cheesecake, but it didn’t happen. Our opinion…the kids liked some of the virtual reality games, DH and I enjoyed the cheesecake more than DQ.

Garden Grill (EPCOT)

We did this on Christmas Eve as part of the Candlelight Processional package. My first pick was Le Cellier, but the GG was considerably less expensive, and we figured the kids would enjoy the characters. Next trip…the kids will probably not be interested in the characters anymore, and Le Cellier will top my list of places to try! Anyway, we waited about 10-15 min for a table and were seated on the upper tier of this circular restaurant. Our waiter was pleasant and did a good job keeping us eating and refilled. The food was good—The salad and bread were yummy. DH liked the catfish, though the rest of us wouldn’t try it, and we all really liked the flank steak (the favorite). I think there was also chicken, which was good too. The kids were excited about their dirt and worms dessert; DH and I shared a warm cobbler (apple?) dessert with cinnamon ice cream (vanilla base). The character interaction was okay…each came around more than once. We aren’t really into the character involvement though, so they moved on quickly. I was a bit disappointed in the atmosphere here. I expected more from the revolving and scene changes. Our experience may have been different had we been on the lower tier. I also thought it was kind of bright—lighting and wall color (though the latter changes as you revolve). Bottom line, we liked the food, had a good server, and the characters came around often enough…but we probably won’t do this one again soon. I think we paid around $85 total for the CP package.

“Ohana (Polynesian Resort)

This was the hands down favorite. Glad we left this till our last night! We waited about 15 minutes to be seated (PS was for 6:20pm on Sat. 12/27). Although we weren’t seated near the much coveted windows or within view of the grill area, we had a very nice server. The food was wonderful. We loved the starters…especially the salad, and oh, those chicken wings! Yum! The meats were great, though the pork was a bit on the dry side. My favorites were the steak and turkey (I’m not a shrimp eater—DH enjoyed the shrimp too). Our only problem here was not being able to eat more!! The kids had fun in the hula hoop contest and coconut race. ‘Ohana will be a “must-do” on our next trip…in fact, DH loved our meal here so much, he said we could start thinking about a next trip! Heh, heh, heh…
