I found a rate of $95 for 6 days for an intermediate car through Dollar. There's the added convenience of pick up/drop off at our hotel. How does that compare? Does it seem like a good rate?

It seems like a very good rate if it includes taxes and fees.

Yes, that includes taxes, all fees except insurance.

Oh, my mistake--the total charge including taxes and fees, etc., comes to 114.28. Does it still sound like a good rate? Actually, for me it would almost be free. I can cash in some AMEX Membership Reward miles for a $100 certificate for Dollar. so I'd be getting a rent car for six days for $19.28 total. Not bad! That is, unless I decide to save my miles for something else.

the lowest price i've found for our trip is $119 (alamo incl taxes/fees) for a compact car and you're getting an intermediate size car. oh but, yours is for 6 days and mine 7, but that's still a great deal!

What did you do for that rate?

That is an excellent rate. I, too, am interested in how you got that rate!

I don't really know how I got that rate! I just went to Dollar's website--www.dollar.com. I put in my dates and that rate came up. No codes or promos or anything. Actually, I played around with the dates. I originally put in five days, and the rate was much higher, I think something like $149. Then I put in six days and got the "weekly" rate. One hint--if you're in their silver club (or whatever its called) get rid of the silver code. When I used that code, the price was actually higher!I did put in the American Express code AMXRW but it came up the same price with or without that code. The AMXRW code simply alerts Dollar that you plan on using an American Express Membership Rewards coupon. In my case, I'm redeeming 10,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points for a coupon good for $100 towards a Dollar car rental. However, the use of the coupon did not affect the rate (I tried it both ways). I don't know if that rate was a special or anything and I used Dollar's website at 3 am, so maybe its some sort of late-night special? Try their website and if you don't get that rate try again at different times. Good Luck!
