I looked at the scale and had gained almost 5 pounds within a matter of about 48 hours.....is this normal for TOM? I want to make sure that is what it probably is and not some New Years overeating catching up with me!

It is impossible to gain 5# of fat in 48 hours, so it more than likely is water weight gain from TOM. Also, if you had a lot of salty foods recently and haven't been drinking a lot of water you will retain even more water. To answer you question, I don't think there is a normal average weight gain for TOM, I think every one is different and that it would differ from month to month. However, on average, I usually show a 2-3 pound gain during TOM.

I know lots of women that gain 5 pounds of water weight pre-TOM and during TOM. I usually gain 3 pounds.

I usuallt gain 2 lbs, but have been known to gain 7.5. Alot of it depends on how good I've been with my water. The more I drink, the less I gain.

Personally I like to call TOM Aunt Flo. I don't think there is an avg. weight gain with it though. I can be all over the map, though usually I do find myself gaining enough to find my jeans to be too tight. In Dec. I gained 6 lbs. for Aunt Flo. No idea how much i usually gain though since i bought my scale right b4 the last visit. I wouldn't worry though. In a couple of days you'll drop it all and go back to your pre visit weight;)

Maureen,
I thought our family was the only one to use the term Aunt Flo. Never heard anyone else use. She's the meanest Aunt I know.:p

LOL
I picked up the term from the Wedding Channel.com when i was planning my own wedding last year. Aunt Flo is just the perfect term for her monthly visit. And i agree, she is definitely the meanest Aunt i know too::yes::

I usually have about 4-5 pounds of water weight during this time. Don'tcha hate seeing that show up on the scale, even if it is only water weight?! ;)
