Welcome to the Adult/Solo Board, loeber. We don't have a dedicated board for college students. There are college students on the teen board and you're welcome to visit here. You might want to visit boards for specific topics also (dining, resorts, theme parks, etc).

thanks for the info...do you know, is there a big enough demand to start a college-age board type deal?

My DBF and I have both just graduated from college this December and will be taking our graduation trip to The World in Feb 2004 and we are stoked. We are really excited about going to Cirque and setting up a Fantasmic Dinner Package. Pleasure Island was kewl when I went two years ago. A little bummed about Alien Encounter being taken out. Anyone have any recommendations for 20 somethings?

When I first joined the DIS, I was pretty bummed there wasn't a college board either. I definitely can't see myself fitting in on the Teen board, and the Adults/Solo board doesn't have the gear I'm looking for either.

I convinced my DBF to go for our Spring Break last March and I'm an annual passholder until this March. I've already made 4 trips on this pass. It would definitely be nice to talk to some other college students though!

My first trip to Disney World was actually with my ex-bf who wanted to goto Orlando cause he used to be stationed there when the naval base was still in existence. I was kind of trying to think of a way for the two of us to go somewhere special together to spark up our 3 year relationship. Well, Disney was the talk of an old friend of mine who still takes his family every other year, so I thought I'd check it out. So thus we got our trip. The interesting part was that I met my DBF the day before I left for Orlando with my ex. I told myself as the plane took off that I would try everything in my power to enjoy and be romantic and spark some fire. But on the first night we had scrounged up a reservation at Nine Dragons and walked around World Showcase at Epcot. Well, we were surprised by the parade but kept walking, then about when Illuminations began we were standing up on the second floor of the building Teppanyaki is in at Japan.
I was so moved by the presentation and all the excitement that the tears started streaming down my smiling face, but my ex stared at me with a confused look on his face and just let me be by myself. This is what I call a romantic sweet Disney moment ruined. Throughout the rest of the trip, we both had fun, but not together, we fought and never seemed to want anything to do with the other. The redeeming factors of this story are first, I had a blast and have not stopped dreaming of going back since, my current DBF called me 3 times on that 4 day trip, and finally guess who I ended up with? :)

I'm a college jr, and I am taking 7 of my friends to disney for spring break this year. Actually, we've gone every year since 2002. The typical "go to Ft. Lauderdale and drink all day" spring break doesn't really appeal to us though, so I guess we're unusual.

I wish there was a college board too... or even just a 20-something board. I don't really fit in with the teen crowd (even when I was a teen, I didn't fit in there lol) but I don't fit in with the "solo/mature adult" board or the "family" boards either. So I kinda hop around.

I think that a college or 20 something board would be awesome! I would put this in the survey but I already took it and didn't think of it. I too was always one of those people that didn't fit in with the typical teen. So I don't really fit in there either. BTW I think I am addicted to this website. LOL I applied for the WDWCP a few days ago and I go to my presentation on 2/25. I can't wait. If for some reason I don't get excepted this time I WILL apply until I do. I am determined!!! :)

I am a recent college-grad, and I ADORE Disney World. My friends think I am a freak, but I planed a trip this past august for them and they had a great time. I think a college/20 somethings board would be cool.

Does anyone know anything about the Disney MBA program for grad students by the way?

Thanks, Kim

All of my co-workers think I'm insaine, I've been bringing in one piece of Disney stuff each day(different each day of course). On the Friday before I leave(I leave on a Sat.) I'm gonna wear my Mickey Ears. Am I nuts? ::yes::

I also keep watching parts of the new Disney travel DVD over and over again. I sleep clinging to my Sorcerer Mickey Doll. My DBF and I occasionally look at each other and start bouncing up and down like children saying "We're going to Disney World!" over and over. I started watching The Magical World of Disney on Saturdays and House of Mouse on the weekend days much more frequently. I've had my suitcase out for a week now(three weeks before we leave). I keep trying to rebudget to get just a few more Disney Dollars. I check my e-mail twice a day to see if anyone posted on these boards.

I'M GOING INSAINE!!!!!!!!

So, as I was asking, am I nuts?

No way are you going overboard. I count up when I'm bored exactly how long till my next trip. Right now I'm at 24 days! I had to postpone my trip in Jan about 7 days before we left....it was heartbreaking! And the anticipation just got worse! But I can't wait. I'm sooooo excited. I call my best friend every day and tell her in ___ days we will ______ at Disney World! (insert things like feeling G-Force at Aerosmith's Rockin Roller Coaster, getting bugged at "It's Tough To be a Bug", Dining like royalty at Cinderella's Royal Table) She loves it and gives little clues, since she's never been, to what we can do. I do it with other disney fanatic friends for fun, see who can come up with the best one. HA HA HA sometimes I worry if i'm a little over the top with disney.:bounce:

I would suggest a twenty-something board. I'm almost 23 and I love WDW. I find that the teen board is much to young for me. While the adult boards are useful, I would like to have a twentysomething perspective because there are questions that I have and I'm sure there are specific activities that would interest those of us in this group. How could we go about making this happen?

My fiance and I are college seniors and are spending our Spring Break in Disney as well. Having a drink or two can be fun but like many of you have said were not really into getting wasted in Ft. Lauderdale or the other party spots in Florida so we figured a trip to Disney and Universal would be perfect. Neither of us have ever been but we know it will be a great time!

::MickeyMo Hey All! This is my first post on here, but I just HAVE to do it...
I'm a college senior going down for March 13-20 with my best friend. I've taken large groups down the last few years and had a lot of fun, but this year everyone seems a bit broke. Let me know if you're going to be around. We're at Beach Club Villas this year and looking to have an awesome time! I head down there a few times a year, but she's not been down in over a decade, so I have to show her the best time yet! I'm so excited to get down there in the sunshine from this crazy northern Minnesota weather. Let me know when you're down there. Oh, and St. Paddy's Day ...it's my birthday and I need to know where to be! :bounce: Oh, and as a sidenote, a college board would be a great addition!

I too think that a college/20 something board would be great! Conversing with others about things to do for our age group would be so helpful! I find the family threads too family-ish, and I definitely feel far too old for the teen board. I am planning a solo trip in September, during the first week of classes - don't think I'll miss too much anyways, and besides, it's worth it for Disney!

Little Miss Mickey, you said something about waiting until after you graduate to do the college program? Seeing how I graduate (FINALLY) this coming semester, this really interests me. Hey everyone. I am also in favor for a college/20 somethings board. I used to post on the Teen Board years ago when it was first created but I've gotten a little old for it.

It's really cool to read so many people interested in or alumni of the WDWCP. I am an alumni of the Spring 2003 program. I was actually down on my Spring Break getting some work days in. I work in Fantasyland attractions. :)

I'm heading back for a long weekend trip in May. Can't wait! So for those of you who spent Spring Break down at the world, how was the trip?

LittleMissMickey
03-28-2004, 09:40 PM
Blueeyes-I might be going in May! Trying to work out the details, but I think I need another little break after graduation and before my summer nanny position starts!

Afsi-I don't know what the technical qualifications are. I think you can talk to your college and tell them that this is what you are interested in and they will help you with it. From what I udnerstand, you simply do not put in your application for degree until you get back. You can pretty much remain a student as long as you want so long as you continue to pay and always say that you ahve something else to work on (in my instance, I have one exam that I will not have taken yet, that I really don't PLAN on taking, but it still holds my record open.)

It is so neat to look at your profile things on the side under your name. SAMANTHA BROWN DOES ROCK! I watch her as often as I can, in fact, if I could be anyone, it might just be her! I love her shows (all of them! I keep finding new ones/old ones on channels like, Discovery-Home and Leisure. It's great. The Travel Channel is definitely my favorite channel.

UncleKyle-When you mention Parrot Head, I sure do hope you mean JIMMY BUFFET FAN! He is the best! I'm tryign to decide whether I want to see his concert here in Minnesota or plan a special trip sometime when he is performing in Florida somewhere. I imagine Minnesota concerts would be a little less well...ideal. Also, how did you get the Bush-Cheney image on your signature? I WANT ONE!

Everybody, how do you get little things written under your name? I putzed around in profile, and couldn't find it. These boards are WAY too technologically advanced for me!

I hope everybody is having an awesome day! Hope to hear from ya'll soon!

I'm guessing that you are 21 or older. There is Pleasue Island, which has a few night clubs and comedy club. There is also Jelly Rolls near by. In Downtown Disney's West Side there is The house of blues and a few other places to hang out. There is always something to do there. You'll have a blast and meet plenty of people. :)

I did a Spring Break at WDW my junior year in college and it was by far my favorite break. We got a group together from school, drove down with camping gear, and stayed at Fort Wilderness. It was a relatively cheap way to go (we renting the gear from our school, and brought some groceries to cut down on food costs). There were lots of college age people around, since it was a Spring Break week; we met a lot of people standing in lines (especially when we were wearing t-shirts with our university logo).

Maybe your could organize a group through a student activities committee? Good luck.

Another college aged Diser here too!! I did the WDWCP and had such an amazing time so for those of you who are going or thinking about it, it is such a great experience. I will admit, I still have fun when I go and find things to do. The best was when I was on my program because I went with my roomates and friends and went to Pleasure Island and Wide World of Sports. If your going to Disney and want to meet other college aged people, I think Thursdays are still free for CM's and that always means that the CP's are out at Pleasure Island.

Is the WDWCP open to students just graduating? Or do I have to be in school once I finish the program?

The WDWCP is open to current students and students that have just graduated. It has to be the program right after you graduate though. And then you have the chance to stay if you choose to and your "employer" likes your performance.

Have any of you (or your friends or family in this age group) been on the 7-day Western Magic Cruise - not quite sure if that's the right name?

My grandparents are taking the family on the Dec. 31, 2005 cruise and I was wondering what to expect.. I'll be 20 at the time, if that helps.

Thanks.

I just graduated college. You know, I will remember NOT to go to Disneyworld during Spring Break.

I didn't realize it was such a popular spot for students to go on spring break.

Now I loved college and everything to go with it but students go rowdy on their breaks. I don't know why that is but it is. It's not fun for the rest of us who don't think their antics are amusing.

WDWAurora
09-05-2004, 07:56 PM
Wow, that was a little insulting, I know you didn't mean it that way, but it was....I didn't notice any out of control behavior going Spring Break of 03 or 04, and I was there 5 times between those visits and noticed no differences. I did not go to Pleasure Island, which would perhaps have a different crowd, but ALL of us are NOT rowdy. I just graduated also, and I don't think certain antics are amusing, but I've also found that antics such as the ones you're probably referring to just don't happen at Disney World. It's just not where you go if you want to party it up. My grandparents were with me on those trips, so I can assure you that our group was not participating in any antics, neither were any other people we saw. Trust me when I say my ever so blunt grandmother would have pointed it out to us. The wildest thing we did was when someone wearing a shirt of an opposing sports team walked by my boyfriend would cough our mascot's name, but it wasn't really noticeable for anybody but us....Sorry so long, but I get worked up when people lump college students into one category, especially someone who's just been there done that. That's the reason college students get such a bum rap. And again, I know you didn't mean it to be that way at all, I just felt like I should let you know that it is certainly still a great place to come, even when all those "crazy college kids" are there.

luvdisney81

The most annoying group to me. Every single time...and I do mean EVERY SINGLE TIME, I have ridden Tower of Terror, I ALWAYS get the high schoolers who think it is funny to act immaturally (sp?) and fake freaking out. They laugh the whole way through, talk loudly through the entire ride and typically start screaming at the top of their lungs as soon as the doors close for no reason.

I just don't understand why they must do this. And why are their so many. I don't even want to go on the ride for that reason, the immature kids. It is ruined every time. Next time I will request to be in the next car just to avoid these idiots.

Fish - yep, Dive Quest is great, been there, done that, got the t-shirt ;) As soon as I can save up enough money, I'm trying to get there again.

Dossie - Leominster, eh? I've got a few friends from school that were from Leominster. You happen to know Rich or Ben Levy or Todd Robbins? (seem to remember one of them saying that Leominster High is a fairly small school)

Eric, get ready to sing "It's a Small World"
I had a class with Rich, and a class with Todd.
Leominster was ok size, about 1700 kids. Not sure if they'd remember me, as we didn't really talk much.
I see you're a CPer, a friend of mine Elizabeth Branch is doing the CP as well. Do you know her?

I worked with both Rich and Todd when I was at the Syracuse University campus TV station, HillTV.

Maybe it's just a short "cut" of "It's a Small World", because I haven't met Elizabeth yet.

Will she be driving down to FL or flying?

The one thing that I've probably used the most that did not come with the apartment is a little George Foreman grill. (well, and my laptop computer as well). All bowls/plates/cups/silverware/pots/pans are provided, but the foreman grill is really nice, because it's quick, and it (for me at least) seems to do a better job (less sticking, more evenly cooked) than a frying pan.

Make sure to bring enough clothes to last about 2 weeks. Laundry machines are available in the complex, it's $1 each for washer and dryer.

Don't worry about bringing rain gear, unless you've got a small umbrella that you'd like to bring. If your job is going to require you to be outside, you will be issued rain gear.

I'm happy I've got a digital camera with me. (then again, photography is one of my hobbies, and my current goal is to learn to take good fireworks pictures by the end of my program, so I really like not having to deal with film)

The apartments have cable, but do not come with a TV. One of my roommates brought a little 13 inch tv, with built in VCR. It's not very big, but we do end up watching it a lot. He also bought (once he got down here) a cheap DVD player to go along with the TV.

I'll send you a PM with $$ information.

a George Foreman Grill is a really good idea.... One of my roomates had one and it helped out alot for 6 guys who didnt really know how to cook

Also make sure you pack some warm clothes... it can get pretty cold during the winter season... One day when I was ushering a Braves spring training game, they were handing out winter coats for us to wear..... (and about 2-3 days latter we were bakeing under the sun... Almost compaird to Up State NY's crazy weather) And then when it stays warm around the end of March/April, she can just mail them home.

Money Wise, I was lucky to break even (or close to it), but I didnt buy to many suvies (wish i did though). But others were not as lucky, and some were luckyer... it all depends on the spending habbit :D room and board isnt to bad, considering that all utilities are included.

And a Camra is a good idea, I really wish now that I took alot more pictures when I was there (I did steal my roomate's digital camra a couple of times and finally got the pictures I took from him this past spring... 2 years after we left  )

And if she does get accepted, have her visit disneyalumni.com or wdwcpinfo.com and meet some other people who got accepted, its is always nice to know people before you go down.

Congrads to you NICOLE. Hopefuly I will be going down to Florida in January too, I applied for an AI and should find out by the End of next week.

There are many great websites out there made by Alumni to help you on your way to Orlando. One such web page is made by a fellow DIS board member, check it out:

http://portal.disneycp.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=9&page=1

Thank Link should bring you write to a packing list (if not, go to disneycp.net and its under "Anticipation" on the left hand Menu), you do not need everything on it but should give you some Ideas. And remember, Wal-mart is just a bus/car ride away.

Just do a search for wdwcp on google for some more pages. Also www.disneyalumni.com has a very active message board so you can meet other Future, present and past CPers.

If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me, or post it here, there are several Alumni on the board that will be more then happy to help you out :earboy2:

Hello, this is my first time visiting Disney on my own and with my girlfriend. We are both 22 and were wondering what the alcohol situation was at CBR. Are there restaurants/eaterys that offer it? Is there an on site liquor store? What about the parks or downtown disney in general? Or is Disney primarily "dry"?

WDW has only 1 "dry kingdom" ... there are no alcohol sales in the MK, but every other park has alcohol, and I believe most of the resorts have at least 1 restaurant with a bar. I know that some of the DTD restaurants have bars. No on-site liquor store, but there are some off-site, and grocery stores in FL are allowed to sell beer.

"Dry Kingdom" is really dry, however! Epcot, drink around the world :cool1:

Some of the closest liquor stores are @ 535 coming out of the north entrance of DD. There is a Goodings there and to the left ABC liquor. To the right on 535 is Walgreens.

I miss 535, I use to drive it every day to Epcot as a CP, now I don't drive @ all :guilty:. Then again, I work on a ship so there is no room. If any CP's have any questions, I am available too through PM. I finished my program at Epcot and now work for Disney Cruise Line.

And while there are no on-site liquor stores, most of the hotel gift shops/food courts sell wine, beer and small bottles of liquor, plus mixers. They're wicked overpriced (of course), but they are there. Many of the hotels also have pool bars -- the Boardwalk's is my favorite.
