View Full Version : Does anyone else have trouble "seeing" the 3D shows?

I really do like all of the 3D shows - and my whole family does too, but am I the only one around who just sees double instead of feeling the full effect of the shows? When thing are not really "popping out" I get the 3D effect, but when things seem to come out of the screen, I just see two!

Is there a trick to seeing this? Dumb question, I know...but I was just wondering?:earseek: :earseek: :earseek:

I don't experience the 3-D effect either. May be because I have such terrible vision in my left eye!?!

My daughter has that same problem. No clue why though.

I'm just glad that I'm not the only one.

You know, I had this problem too for the longest time and I didn't even realize it!! I had no idea that I wasn't seeing things the way I was supposed to! It's been suggested that I can't see the effects because I have an astigmatism. Of course, I too have problems with my left eye sometimes, so, that could be the reason.

Bottom line? You're definitely not alone!!:p

If one eye is significantly stronger than the other you will definately have this problem. If you can not see the 3D effects there is definately a vision problem of some sort. My eyes are very sensative. The last trip to WDW is the first time the 3D effects worked well for me.

Capt EO was awful. My eyes watered through the whole thing.

I don't see 3-D either. However, I am 100% totally blind in 1 eye. That is where my problem lies. The one thing I still really enjoy though is the effects are so great that it still makes it worthwhile to see these shows!!

I don't always see the 3D effects unless they are really good ones. It seems like the newer movies I can see, but the older ones I can't. I can see the effect's in Mickey's Philharmagic, but the ones in Honey I Shrunk the Audience I can't see.

My eye doctor did a test when I was a child, and told me that I couldn't see 3D things.

I do ok with the 3D effect but I leave my glasses on under the 3D glasses... I found I do need to wear my glasses.....otherwise forget it..

My right eye is completely lazy...lol, beyond repair the eye doctor says ... so when I go to the newer 3D's if I close the eye sometimes I can get the effect, otherwise I get half of the effect, it will come off the screen some but I can see a shadow of the double behind it ... ugh!

I have a hard time seeing the 3D also. I always thought it was because of my contacts.

OMG! I totally thought it was just me!! I thought my eyes where too close together. This ruined my experience at ITTBAB and Muppets. I even went in again because I thought maybe it was where I was sitting but nope--two of everything and not in 3-D. Bummed me out. I dont remember having this problem in '96 so maybe its a sign of "incorrect correction" of my contacts. Im blind as a bat, by the way, without my lens or glasses. Hmmm...

This past trip I kept seeing double. I would close my right eye until the screen adjusted. I have always had 20/20 vision but this leads me to believe it is time for an eye exam!:teeth:

I too can't see the 3D effects. I also have a lazy eye and I think that is what affects it since I am always wearing either glasses or contacts. The difference in eyesight is still too much.

For me, all I get to see is the movies. Basically, during the known 3D effects, I can take the time to look around the theater and see the things that may have otherwise been missed. I like to think that I get to see more than the actual movie.

Yep, my Mom can't see 3-D.

Took us all a while (years) to figure out that she wasn't seeing what she was suppose to be. She always wondered what we were trying to touch!

She has one very weak eye. After we figured out that she didn't see what we were seeing, it made sense. 3-D effects require both eyes.

DS has a very weak eye also. He could not see the 3-d effects with his glasses but this year with contacts he could see it better. He has really poor depth perception and I am guessing that that is a big issue in the 3-d stuff. Very common with people born prematurly. Any of your in that catagory??

i can sort of see the 3d effects but it really doesn't pop out at me like it should...when i was younger i could see them great but as i have worked in the computer field for as many years as i have and have abused my eyes with the crappy monitors that i have worked with, i think i have caused this problem...i do wear glasses and attempt to put the 3d glasses over my prescription glasses...i see some of it but now all...i usually see two of everything...

I have never been able to see 3D. My right eye is much weaker than my left due to amblyopia.

The ability to see 3D is based upon your ability to see with both eyes equally and "pull" the images together into one.

Those of us who can't see 3D usually have amblyopia (lazy eye), strambismus (wandering eye) or are blind in one eye.

I've always wondered what I am missing on those 3D shows, but they are still neat, even in regualr double vision:teeth:

I don't have any problems with the Disney 3-D shows, but I couldn't find the picture in one of those 3-D things they used to have in the newspaper to save my life.

I had a strabismus (cross-eye) in my left eye since 12 years old . No depth perception and no 3-D effects . Three different Opthamologist I went to over the past 30 years said there was not much I could do about it ...........learn to live with it .

Four years ago I went to a Neuro-Opthamologist in town that I had heard good things about . After my eye exam she asked if I had ever considered fixing the strabismus in my left eye . I told her every other eye doc I had been to told me to live with it . She said she could correct my eye with surgery . After some research on my own I had the surgery . My left eye is now straight and a lot of my depth perception has returned along with the 3-D effects at WDW .

Find a good Neuro-Opthaologist that performs strabismus surgery in adults and then go enjoy the 3-D rides at Disney.

All it takes is your eyes being out of balance. Your brain biases to the strong eye if one is significantly weaker than the other. I didn't need glasses till I was in college a couple of years. At first my eyes needed the same amount of correction. Gradually they changed. That is when I went to Disneyland and saw Capt EO and had such an awful time. Eyes watering etc. Getting new lenses didn't seem like apriority the other times I visted Disney, but this last time I had new lenses. I haven't needed a change in strength for nearly 10 years but my eyes like to change the angle that needs correction, which throws off depth perception. All the 3D effects were GREAT.

If you have sensative eyes, just time your new perscription for before you leave :)

this is so weird..someone just told me about this ( I only see light/dark in one eye) and from what I recall, I could tell * something *was different during the 3 d effects but guess I am missing alot! hope to have my new glasses by the time we go ( almost flunked my eye exam on my Driver's Lic. renewal .... he told me to "guess"so he wouldn't have to flunk me. (?!!!)..i'm staying off the roads till i get the new glasses for obvious reasons!) but don't think they will help with the 3D aspect

 Thanks everyone! Now I don't feel like such a mutant! It's funny because I have never had eye problems and do not even wear glasses - but have always had an issue with depth perception. Not a big one - just little things like seeing a rope divider or catching high fly ball.....

I can definitey see some 3d effects. and when the effect is not too close, I see it perfectly! It is when things get **REAL** close that, instead of popping out of the screen, I just see double! So when everyone is reaching out trying to grab whatever it is, I am trying to figure out how to see it that way!

Oh well, I like the movies anyway!!:earseek:

We had a thread going about this a while back and we all dubbed ourselves members of the "Funky Eye Club!" :)

BUT GUESS WHAT? I just returned from WDW and I could see some of the effects in the new Mickey's Philharmagic! yea! There is one part where there are some colorful gemstones and they look like they are right there dangling in front of you! It was so neat to be able to see them.

The one I have the most trouble seeing is Muppets 3D. Can't see any of the effects. I can tell where I am supposed to be seeing them, but they don't really look 3D to me.

3D technology is definately getting better. Has anyone seen Ghosts of the Abyss? I had NO trouble in that one and the entire thing was filmed 3D. Mayb ethe IMAX frame rate helped too...

I guess my DH and I are no alone. He has a neurological condition that sends his eyes in all different directions sometimes, so he has trouble with everything! I am nearsighted with an astigmatism and the 3D effects make my eyes water. I'm sure that I don't see them nearly as well as I should. We saw an IMAX 3D movie at the NE Aquarium in Boston this fall and it drove my eyes nuts (not to mention the fact that I am afraid of heights and we were sitting up up high!).............P

You can add my DW to the list of folks who can't see 3-D. She's got an easy explanation though. She lost her left eye due to complications from childhood cancer. Can't see 3-D with one eye. No depth perception either.

She will do the Disney 3-D shows and can see them fairly clearly with only a slight shadow/ghost. However, she won't do the older 3-D movies with the red and blue glasses. That just looks blurred and gives her a headache.

I can see some parts of the 3D movies, but when they "pop" out at me, that is when everything turns to a big blur. I also cannot see the picture in picture 3D things in the comics. I have had that part of my vision tested & was told that I have "lost" part of that site??? I do know that I have a lazy eye & my eyes aren't level to boot! One eye is slightly lower than the other, I was born that way....people do not notice it until I point it out. I can see it very easy & have always been self consious about it. On top of all of that .... I have that ever loving over 40 vision LOL
Here I thought I was one of the odd balls that couldn't see 3D..... I see there are many of us!!!!

My son can't see 3D. He has an eye condition called Nystagmus. His eyes move when he is tired or stressed. He did have surgery similiar to the Strabismus surgery that airbusdrvr talked of. It is much better, but the doctor says he will not ever see 3D very well.

Like many here, I see some depth to the movies, more than a 'non-3-D' movie, but like others, things do not 'pop' and 'jump' out at me. When I hear the reaction of those in the sudience around me, I say to myself, 'darn it, missed another one', LOL. I see some, like those jewels mentioned earlier, but not too often. I d enjoy them though.
