OMG!!! Are you serious?????? :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: I will get to meet you next year?!?!? We just missed the last SPH for 12/4 but have a cat 10 on deck 7...last one. :) :) :) There is always hope. We also have a hold on 9/11 for a SPH & there are 2 for 1/29/05 but DH & I decided that we enjoyed the Christmas decorations on the ship too much to miss them. :) OK, NOW I know that we picked the right date to sail! :) Have to make the deposit in the am. Guess I need to add another countdown clock.::MickeyMo

NO WAY!!! I am going to sound like a totally crazy person but Rae is REALLY going to be on this cruise too? I am in tears here. Oh this is going to be such a great cruise!!! Here DH & I were sitting hoping that we would have a good time even though we wouldn't be sailing with the great group that we had on the 11/15 cruise. I get to actually meet Rae?!?!?!? Oh, you don't know how much all of this has brightened my day. Our house has been so sick. Well, YKWIM. Kailtyn had strep & they missed the flu, which turned into pneumonia 2 weeks ago today. I had strep & DH had the flu. William had an ear infection & the only reason he has been sick is the drugs he has been on. DD woke up ill last Saturday night. DS was sick Christmas evening & then again woke up last night. DD was back at the urgent care Friday morning with strep & the pneumonia still hanging on. DS has a fever tonight. I am actually smiling for the first time in many days. :)

Hey, Lisa - here I am sick (bronchitis/pneumonia/asthma) and I get out of bed so my coughing won't wake my DH and see these notes from you and Ann!

NOW I AM ELATED! Doing the happy dance and couldn't be hapier than to know that you are going to be with us!!!! This is going to be the best cruise of 2004 EVER!!!!!!

Okay, we are going to get this intro/info out of the way -

Rae (then 49), Tom (then 54) and Michael (9) - Stateroom 5622 - that's Deck 5 AFT, early dining
Driving from Indy - staying the week prior around Orlando area
Spending night before cruise in Port Canaveral

Hugs!

Oh great, I'm older than you are. (I think I already knew that, but OUCH! Coming up on that 5-0......OUCH!)

What time do you think is "best" to have dinner at Palo? I dislike the Tropicalifragilistic/Mexicalifragilistic menu GREATLY - so I know what night I want ressies, but what about a time?

Also, I'm going to have a Brunch and Ladies High Tea list started - obviously, I'm on both already!!!!!

When are you coming in and where are you staying? Maybe we can do a Dis Met with others the night before - generally people are going with Radisson (we've used Days Inn and liked it there).

Just more excited about this cruise than the one in 109 days, but maybe that will change in time.

Looking out my window at a dreary, rainy, foggy miserable Indiana morning and remembering the blue skies, clear seas and mountains of St. Thomas with great fondness.....

Sorry, just got back from the doctor office with the kids. William has the flu. :( He had a 103.5 temp this morning so I didn't even call the office, just dressed & went when they opened the door. Kaitlyn probably has the flu too. Chances are I had a mild case of it & Mike probably is getting over it too. All the bleaching I did yesterday...well I will be doing it again Thursday since you aren't contageous until you start feeling better.

Anyhow, our intro & ages at cruise time...Mike (36), Lisa (37), William (6), & Kaitlyn (5). We have early seating too. I think that we may try to celebrate Kaitlyn's birthday on the cruise since William got the attention this past year. Only problem is her Bday is 9/4 instead of 12/4. We will have to see! I will definantly join you for high tea & brunch sounds nice. I know that DD will definantly be PTd by then so we should be able to let her stay in the club more often & try out Palo. Brunch would be nice though. My least favorite menu was Monday night in Lumiere's but I also had to deal with taking both kids to the club & Kailtyn kept tripping on the octopus legs so I was worried about leaving her & her getting hurt. We really enjoyed our tablemates & servers so much that we were glad we didn't miss out on any evening.

Now, I am pretty sure Rae knows about my ILs, but let's just say they weren't too happy when they heard we went on a cruise. NOW...MIL wants to go with us on the next one! BIL also said to call him when we decide what to do. Who knows? We may be able to have a little family reunion thing onboard...but I will still need time away from them. ;)

I guess with the three of us right now, we don't need anything set up but I can play around with a website to help keep things organized as more people join us.

Ann and Rae?? O.K........so, as you see I left a deposit on the 10 day cruise(Several months back when they first offered it). Yes, we just returned 12/7/03 from our Eastern sailing and WDW. The last two years we have done the WDW Thanksgiving thing and 7 nighter. Yes, although cancelled last year, we still went and did 3 nights at WDW, 4 night cruise and 2 more at WDW. As we (myself and DW) are sitting on the verandah looking at Castaway Cay she says "maybe we should try the Western next". So I'm looking to see if it sailed the Sat after Thanksgiving...... that would be great....it doesn't. So I check the week of thanksgiving and it's 6600.00 for the 4 of us, cat 6. Now, I would be spending 10200.00 for the Christmas 04 10 dayer. So I check the price of THIS cruise and it's 4900.00!!! And..... too my surprise, as I check to see if there is a "thread" for this sailing, look who are the first to "pipe up"....Rae and Ann.

AnnMorin

they may still have some of the reclassified cabins left (we snagged 7120) but we had our choice two weeks ago. I would love it if you came along! Of course you do know you will be forced to sing happy birthdya to me it is a requirement.. infact they make everyone do it at the lifeboat drill ;)

LAMPSKIES

I don't want to be called 'cheap" but, after Christmas eve and Christmas day I see DW is not ready to not be home on Christmas. And, we are taking our RV on a 2 week vacation in June to the Black hills and Estes Ntl park. 7 days for lass than half of a 10 day?? The novelty would be nice, but............is it worth it? If we do go, once I sing happy birthday in public they will ban that from all public drills. I'm not that worried about specific cabins , as long as we can get a verandah aft. Starboard is also nice since they "back in" at CC. Would I have to give a big enough notice or will the just "expect" Rae and I to wrestle the shrimp out of each others hands??

I'm in for the wrestling part!!!!! But if you'd rather, you can pull up a chair with me at the buffet line and we can block the shrimp bowl and orange/mango soup bowl and just eat right there. Hey, whose going to mess with a red headed menopausal woman????

Now if we could only get Fidelio for our cruise - okay, that was my shameless plug for Dueling Pianos!

By the way, do you ride horses? If so, why not meet us at Royal Center at Crooked Creek when the weather gets nice for an afternoon of riding and fun? It's not that far from where you are, Lampskies!!! That way you can "size up" your Shrimp competition!

Hugs,

Ahh just think of it, you would go down in history.,. kinda like when they retire a jersery of a famous ball player... "from this day forth there will be no more birthday singing at the drills..." Maybe they could put a little plaque up on deck four describing the infamous Lampskies and how the crew jumped ship during the lifeboat drill :teeth:

Alas...in my excitement of finding out that I would meet Ann & Rae I totally forgot about the buffet shrimp factor. :wave2: Rae, I promise not to eat ALOT of them, but when I walk by if you could just put some in a bowl for me, I would appreciate it. ;)

Rae....it looks like we'll be in southern Indiana the first week of April. Brown County State Park or Spring Mill. DD's are on spring break and we will be at one of those parks that week.
Ann, if we do switch dates, could you have them make sure they have enought miller lite? Both signals and pinnocios ran out by Thursday!!! I can't imagine why? LOL

That means that you don't age! Lucky you!
Do you think we could arrange for them to forget mine????

Honestly, we had a head server on one of our first cruises - who forgot our Anniversary until Friday night then it was a rushed deal. That's why I am soooo particular about who is our server, head server, etc. THEY DO MAKE THE CRUISE PERFECT FOR US!

RAE!!!! I just noticed your signiture line! ROFLMBO!!! :p It is going to be a great cruise!!! Did you get your quote yet? Our local TA finally got back to me today. DH wanted to at least give them a chance to match DU's price since they were so nice to us with the last trip. Well, she had to call me 3 times to confirm information. She told me that our quote must be just for 2 adults. There was a $350 difference between hers & DU's. That made me VERY happy to call & put that deposit down ASAP. :) They had the best price online too. Alot of people have been posting about the price increases on DCL and we are doing the Western at less than 100 more than the Eastern this past November. Granted, we only look at the off peak times but hey?

BTW, Lampskies, I don't think you are cheap at all to consider getting more for your money...especially with DCL. :) When I saw how much it would be for us to go on the 10 day, my first thought was...we could take 2 7 day cruises for that amount!

rae519
12-30-2003, 11:33 PM
My reservation was made directly with DCL, $3966.31 with $400 (yes, FOUR hundred dollar) on board credit (2 A 1C - Category 6).

DU's quote was $3606.31 with $100 rebate and receive a $100 onboard credit to replace my DCL $400 credit. ($3505.31 and have $100 onboard credit - final)

I transfer my DCL reservation to Bill at cruisetraveloutlet.com and get a rebate of 7% back on the cost of the cruise. This drops the price to around $3716.31 AND I keep my $400 onboard credit. ($3716.31 and have $400 onboard credit) That is $200 more for me to spend!!

Now if only making the time pass til then was as easy!

*Where are you staying the night before the cruise? We are deciding between staying at Radisson for $109 with their cruise package deal and taking their shuttle to the port - or staying at Days Inn (like we've been doing for about $30/night) and paying the $70 for secure, lighted parking at the port. We could just come over to visit those at the Radisson, if that's where most are staying.

Yes, it is too early to get firm plans (sorry!!) but there's no acitivity in my April 17 cruise group. Maybe I'll just go incognito for that one!! HAHAHA!

Rae

LOL! That's OK Rae! :) DH is already rolling his eyes when I am talking about this cruise & what we can do. I just updated our countdown & will have to ignore it. LOL! It is going to be more fun planning this since we already know first hand some of what to expect onboard & also what new things we have to look forward to.

We don't know about the night before yet. Is the Day's Inn room non smoking??? We might drive down on Thursday from NC, then stay at the AS Movie again since that was so much fun for the kids & do DT Disney Friday & maybe watch the fireworks from one of the resorts since we would have the use of the buses & such. I DN want to go to the MK again & especially not the day before we sail since we wont have the 3 days to get adjusted before we are in a port. So, no, we aren't really sure yet. I liked parking at the port & having our luggage packed up for us so we could just drive away.

rae519
12-31-2003, 02:39 AM
We have to use non-smoking rooms exclusively due to both Michael and I having astham. (Also, the reason we choose 5622, no neighbors on the left - upwind).

I think we will go with Days Inn and parking at port. Nice to be able to just drive up, unload park and get in the line. And I found out that you can disembark IF you forget something in your car/van (like we did). It was a bit of a process with a lot of escorting but do able. Also, when you disembark on that last day, easy to just take your own bags and get to your car and drive off.
We were GONE within 20 minutes of disembarkation and heading toward Titusville.

We are staying at a Days Inn near Universal for the week prior. AND going over to Tampa to see some sights there during that time. I want to surprise Michael with a tour of Raymond James Stadium (Tampa Bay Buccaneer NFL team). And I was thinking "Busch Gardens"!!

O.K. Rae........what's up with this 400.00 credit??? DD's will then be 14 and 12. It looks like DCL is 4900.00 on line. I usually call and book direct. The only thing right now I have to figure out is Jessica (DD 13) will be in her first year of HS. We've taken them out for on of those weeks the last 4 years and it's no biggie with the Crown Point school system. DD13 is starting that "I'm going to miss my friends" thing. She spent A LOT of time on the net last cruise. We were considering letting each take a friend and book an inside stateroom across the hall from us. Let the 4 girls deal with the mess. With DCLs new pricing for children 13-17 it's not much more. And.......if I can get that credit for EACH stateroom?!?!? Hmmmmmmm I could book myself and eldest DD in one room, DW and eldest DDs friend in another the the 12 year olds in either. It looks like the difference between 13-17 and an "adult" is about 200.00......then with a 400.00 credit......am I thinking right??

lbgraves
12-31-2003, 02:59 PM
I'm pretty sure the 400 credit was from rebooking onboard. I thought that was only for the special Antiqua & San Juan itineraries though, Rae? Did you change your date somehow?

rae519
12-31-2003, 08:22 PM
We booked on board last May - one cruise to San Juan and one to Antigua both offering $400 onboard credit. We cancelled one and changed the other to the December date. The credit carried over.

Right place at right time, I guess.

Lampskies - I always book Disney then go over to Bill at cruisetraveloutlet.com for that 7% rebate. I don't know if you can get any onboard credit with him or not, but that special booking credit was only for onboard booking.

With girls of that age, I don't know whether to cry or laugh for you. NOT into the teenage hormonal thing - having enough to deal with menopause!!!!

HAHAH@

Happy New year!

Rae

lbgraves
12-31-2003, 08:31 PM
Well, heck Rae! If I had known that you could change your date & keep the credit...I would have MADE DH rebook onboard. :D Oh well, it all works out in the end. I am happy with our price & know that next time we will definantly book ASAP after boarding if only to get the credit on our account. After all, what difference does it make if that 1000 is in our bank or Disney's with the "big" interest rate we get.

I am getting the kids tucked in & will be hoping to fall asleep here soon myself. Not enough sleep over the past month & after cleaning all day I am exhausted. Just hope that both kids sleep thru the night!

Happy New Year everybody!

I contacted Compaq thru their chat & found how to take the HD apart, then figured out how to replace the blank drive with this DVD thingy. I have connected the power source & finally figured out how to connect the IDE cable so that I can return the double one I picked up at Staples in the middle of all this. The only thing that I need to figure out now is how to connect it to the sound card...once I find out just where the darn thing is. :teeth:

One cat 11 for 4, DD's (then) 14 and 12 and one friend each.....3211.00. 5071.00 for just the 4 of us in a verandah room. 1495.00 more total, for each to bring a friend and have them deal with the room looking like a bomb hit it. 1495.00 for a week myself and DW can have together.......sounds cheap when I put it like that doesn't it?? We are DEFINATELY going to be cruising again. I got a price quote from "beaches" for an all inclusive, and DD's said they would rather go on another DCL vacation. We are going on a trip from fathers day to July 4th out west (two weeks), we are trying to sell our house and move up a little (trying to get that done before DD13's 8th grade graduation in May). And oh ya, did i mention I still do have to somehow fit work into my schedule! LOL It looks like the 10 day thing is not going to happen. DW is set on a Western. We've done two 4 nighters and an Eastern, so she is willing to try. I'm going to let the dust settle a little, we were in Michigan in September for a weekend, we were in Vegas in the beginning October, camped at the end of October then WDW Thanksgiving, then the 7 nighter. I forgot what my house looked like!!!

We had lots of rain and a little freezing, just enough snow to cover the ground. Nothing at all like you are describing!!! I haven't seen the horses in a few weeks - at least I know they are being well taken care of!

I saw Ann's Navigator's on Tony and Barb's site - chuckled at her highlights (Ann, you wino! You do me proud!!!!) Thanks for sharing those with us - helps me decide what we are going to do for the April cruise.

Tom is going on the pilgrimage with us in May - so we've cut back on the April vacation and instead of taking a week at Orlando, just flying in for the cruise. I sure will miss visiting with friends, but this pilgrimage is the highlight of our lives!

We will be staying for a week at Shades of Green in December ($97/night - it's the military hotel on Disney property) and then we can visit.

Still no idea when we will cruise in 2005 - the big 5-0 celebration!!

It has been in the 70s for the past 3 days. Makes me scared to think what weather we will be getting here tomorrow. I know this wont last forever.

Anyhow, the kids & I were at Target at 7:50 this morning. Only 2 other people there for the clearance for at least 10 minutes & I knew them. :) I picked up 5 more Santa hats, so if us DISers want to take a picture I will have at least 9. I figure that the kids like to wear them when we go out in December & they should last us a few years.

Phyllis - Welcome Aboard!!
Horses? Me talk about horses?????? You mean you really want ot listen?! Ohhh, girl!!!! You don't know about Pandora's box, do you?

Ann- that countdown clock is running much too slowly!!! So how are the little ones doing?

Looks like Lampskies and family will be joining us also - can't wait! We are going to have them go ride with us when the spring comes - can't wait!!

Busy with homeschooling right now (3rd grade!) and it's going to be a great year for us! I HIGHLY recommend Seton's program - it's rewarding and challenging, but easy to teach and work with!

Baby, it's still cold outside - windchill has gone up to -3! That's a lot better than Lampskies giving me the -28 when he got up this AM!!!!! BRRRRRRRR!

Okay, hot tub time!

You are definantly lucky not to have to go out in that weather since you homeschool. OK, another benefit. ;) We had to wear the jackets today & it was getting even colder when I took the trash out after dinner. Looks like the ship is filling up. :)

IS anyone interested in making a list with our information on it - I've done it before and frankly, don't want to be the listmaster this time - but it does have benefits.

Any takers?

Good-morning Ron - what's the wind chill???????? I don't even want to look!

Ann - have you ever tried the Piersport Riesling on the wine list? It's our favorite. Sweet white.

I had peiersporter riesling just the other night Rae.. goes wonderful with roast pork :)

Thank you!!!!

I'll get that out to you tonight when the computer literate person is home!!

Looking now into the April cruise and trying to figure out what we are going to do - so any advise would be appreciated.

We are flying on Friday and arrive at 7PM.
Now....
do we stay at an MCO hotel and (1) use Disney transfers (2) rent a limo, or (3) rent a car.
OR
do we rent the car and drive to Port, get a hotel there then turn the rental in and use the rental car shuttle to get to ship? Then reverse it on the way back.

I am thinking PRICELINE due to all the good things I have heard and also Happy Limo or Budget for alternate Disney transportation.

I'm leaning toward Budget, drive to Port personally- but want to make an informed decision!!!

Rae

AnnMorin
01-07-2004, 08:27 AM
We have rented a car the past two cruises and it worked out well. We have stayed near MCO once, near universal once and are thinking of near the port for the next one.

A GREAT friend has been targeted & I have been concentrating on supporting her & contacting our friends to help. I finally got that DVD RW installed. Hi all!
Not much going on - unless you really, really want me to talk about my horses - we doing some "horsetrading" with the oldest one, Cheyenne this week.

Watched NFL all weekend - got things ready to ship for the e-bay buyers, and listed more books there.

Made arrangements with the auctioneer to come look at some collectibles we have.

Found out my cough is allergy related (mold) and this is a very bad year for that allergen. Nice ENT. Gave me prednisone so now I have a reason to overeat and be GROUCHY! (Read poor family members here!!)

That's about it -

You are right,Ann. I'll tell them.

My daughter Kayla died at age 7 in July 1994. Her best friend was Katie Cole who was 6 at the time. Since we were friends with Katie's family, it was easy for me to look past my grief and start to think about the dreams that died for me when Kayla passed. Soon I was thinking how someday I'd see Katie graduate, get married, have children, etc. What a beautiful way to see things - living vicariously through her best friend!

I had wanted to wait til Katie was 16 to give her a small diamond necklace that I had planned to give to Kayla when she turned 16. I didn't wait, I gave it to her over a year ago when she was barely 14. She wore it constantly as a reminder of her best friend who died.

Sunday afternoon, Katie and her best friend (the 16 year old daughter of another friend) were in a car that was "flying down the highway", the driver ran off the road, overcorrected, went down a ravine and hit two trees killing both the girls immediately.

Katie would have been 16 on March 6.

This is probably the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with since Kayla's death and I am trying very hard to keep up a good front since it may help me get through this tragedy. We lost another young man a few weeks ago (Jarred Black, a soldier from Peru who was killed in Iraq) - we knew his family and he went to school with my oldest son.

I thought that drinking could numb the pain, but all it did was make me have a really, really bad headache the next morning - the pain was still there and is still here now as I write. I also tried to eat my way through the kitchen, but that didn't help either. Obviously, God remains the only source of comfort and strength for me at this time.

I ask only for prayers for the families of the two girls - especially the driver's family who not only have grief but guilt to deal with.

Rae

(((((((RAE))))))) I have been trying to get this thread to open up all day. I have no words to offer you to help ease your pain. I can't imagine what you are going thru. I can only offer my prayers to both the girl's families & your own.

Rae....I too cannot imagine the pain you feel...I just went and grabbed Natalie and hugged her and she's going..mommmmm...
stop it....

It's sad enough when its a grown up....but a child...some years ago we had some dear friends who lost their 2 year old...the father ran over her in their car in their drive way....I work for the fire department and when I heard it...I just ran out of work and to where Natalie was at the babysitters..and just sat in the floor
with her and cried. The boys that went to the call...they had to have counseling....and we all sat around the lunch table and cried.....it was heart wrenching to begin with..but to see these big ole firemen crying their hearts out....

And 15 years ago last Saturday...my very best friend and her unborn child were killed in a car wreck....I drive by the place where she was killed every day...and I don't think a day goes
by that I don't think of her...and the baby, a boy, would have been almost 15.....

Just reading your post brought this all back to me.....

We are thinking about you down here in the South....and you've got a lot of support on this board....

Sorry to hear Rae......I haven't been in this thread for a while and like you told me once before Rae "enjoy each and every moment with those you love.....you never know when it could all be over." As I read what has happened to these young people I sit back and think.......My oldest (Jessica 14 in March), is my "popular" one. She goes to ALL the school dances, football games, wrestling meets, basketball games etc. Yes, we (myself or wife) ends up driving at least 1 way. And living here in the middle of corn country the local Homedepot is 15 miles away. So, her friend one of our neighbor boys' buddy just got his liscence. You know it doesn't hit you until you see this strange (beeter car) car in your driveway and out walk the two boys I have known for the last 9 years get in and leave!!! Now, I consider myself on the liberal side.......I feel that I give DD's enough rope to go places and do things that I never would have been allowed to do. But then again, I did it anyways......I just told my parents I was doing something else. BUT, I just can't allow her into a car with a 16 year old!! She hasn't asked yet because they are older and she doesn't "hang out" with them on a regular basis. She still into hanging with her "possie" about 6 girls her age. They are all good kids and we know ALL the parents and all the parents have each others cell #'s. But, there is going to come a time that they are ALL driving.......I don't know how I'd handle that.......yet.

Well, the funerals are over and things are getting back to normal in our lives. We start back homeschooling today after that week hiatus - guess Michael needs lessons in life and living as much as math and science and reading.

Thanks for all your warm wishes, prayers, etc. You are wonderful people and God has blessed me with your friendship.

Lampie - yes, I needed to hear my own words - you know I am great to give advise, lousy to take my own!!!

Ann - hugs to you too - Ohhh, lucky Mike! What day is Mike's big day and how old?

LIsa - thanks, you are always there!!

Phyllis - Can't say I would know how you felt, but pain is always pain and 15 years seems like a lot of time, until you start to dwell on it and then it's like it was today. She is honored by your remembering her and her unborn son. You must have been a very good friend to keep her so close to your heart.

Too cold to do much of anything except complain about the cold and stay inside!!!

Rae my dear I am so glad things are falling back into place, I know how hard that can be, sometimes routines are welcome. Hugs to you and know that kayla now has her friend back in heaven , that should be a comfort. They are up there having a ball together :)
Mike's bday is 2/16 he will be 11. We fly out on the 15th but don't get in until LATE the one bad part we don't land until 11:19 so by the time we get to the hotel it probably will be his bday. He is thrilled we are going, it will be only three days at the beach as even though it is four nights the first night is so late and then thurs our flight out is at 9:15am but three days is better than none!

Glad you're back "in the saddle" Rae!!! Soooooo......it's my turn to drive Jessica (DD13) to school (we car pool to school with two of her friends) and one of her friends says "Ron, my Dad saw the Disney Cruise commercial and picked up a pamphlet at the travel agent, he told me to tell you that if you are going again this year to let him know because we would like to go with!" If they go....look out!! BIG party people!! That would probably mean the other family we "pool" with would go. Do you know what that means.....???? I'm "off the hook" for paying for friends!!! As long as you don't utter those famous words, "Drink are on me!" when we get to the bar!

Good to be back into the rut of homeschooling and homework - with the cold temps I don't mind being inside at all, so we are working diligently and waiting for the warm weather to come so we can really "get back into the saddle" again!

Looking at the picture of my "sons" always makes me wish I could be there and not be inside looking out. Plus the added benefit of having multiple horses is multiple work and sweat that helps take off the unwanted pounds and inches! You can't believe how loud a horse can GROAN! (tee hee hee!)

This weather is the pits! They are delaying school here for 2 hours again tomorrow because of the probable ice tonight. At least I will have almost 1 1/2 hours to myself tomorrow morning!!! Now what am I going to get done?

Hi there! Thank you for the invite to the thread! I'm in high-obsessive planning mode even though we're 10 months out. 9 of us in our group - four in my family including DD 5 and DS who will be 20 months, plus my parents, my college roomie, her hubbie, and their DS 4. This is DCL #2 for us and for my roomie's family (we did a Wonder 4-day a year and half ago), and DCL #1 for my parents. They usually do Radisson cruises and are in shock at the prospect of >2500 on a ship! Oh well - I think they'll enjoy it! Now if we can only get rid of the snow and ice - we're icing over right now in Northern VA......

Welcome, Flexsmom!!! Glad to have you join us! This is our second cruise too but the planning obsession hasn't set in yet like it did for the first last year. Another VA gal here. I was born in Norfolk and graduated from JMU. DH & I moved down to NC in 1994. He graduated from VATech. DH is from Stafford and we have friends & family in Frederickburg. The news doesn't look good up there right now weather wise for you right now. I am worried because DH has a road trip to Pax River Thursday via 95. Hopefully things will be clearing up by then???

My DS will turn 6 2 weeks before the cruise. Good to have another kid that will be in the club with him in the group. When you get a chance I posted my email and information that I am putting together on our group's website. It's nothing fancy, but will give us all the chance to see each other before we sail. DS loved looking at the pictures of the other kids on our last cruise & felt like they were friends already when they finally met.

The others sailing with us are far more experienced cruisers so we have a wealth of knowledge to um...take advantage of ;) while finding out all we need to know before we cruise.

Glad you made it over here!
Anything we can do to help you with your cruise feel free to ask!
I have done the western twice and the eastern twice so I have a pretty good feel for it.
Lampskies did you tell her the requirement?
(everyone must sing happy birthday to me at the lifeboat drill)
{just kidding don't worry}

flexsmom
01-27-2004, 09:53 PM
A birthday party at the lifeboat drill! What a great distraction! Last time my daughter Katie howled for 30 minutes until the CM told her the Captain would have to remove her from the ship if she didn't straighten up! (Quite nicely, I might add - not to start a riot on inappropriate comments from CM's here!) A birthday just might do the trick!

I'm so excited to meet many of you - I lurked all through pregnancy and maternity leave, with a few posts here and there - and feel like a total peeping Tom knowing all of these things about people without any quid pro quo!

We're doing 6 nights at WDW apres cruise - it will be our first time at BCV after buying in there. Last time we did SOG - former Marines here. Rae, I saw you're staying there - military background?

01-27-2004, 09:58 PM
Lisa - We're in Alexandria and were starting to get clear roads until about 4 o'clock today - then the rain started and the temp dropped. By the time I got home with the kids there was 1/2 inch of ice on the road and I couldn't get up the hill in my car, even in snow mode! (My hubbie, who works in Stafford, told me to walk up the hill in my loafers, carrying the 9-month old!) Neighbors came to the rescue, but I was vindicated in that the car still sits at the bottom of the hill despite three of the men on our street trying their best! Tomorrow morning is going to be a disaster - hopefully we'll be better by Thursday. The good news is that the interstates are OK - just not anything else!

lbgraves
01-27-2004, 10:05 PM
Hmmm...I am assuming that you can't post what you told your DH when he suggested how to handle the hill situation? ;) That is terrible that you couldn't get back home with the car!!! We are really lucky here in New Bern. We are the only ones on the coast without snow & ALOT of ice.

Yuk!!! It's 3 degrees!!! It's only going too get up to 7 and it's snowing!!! But, the forcast is for it to be colder tomorrow!!! I'd even put up with the bugs at CC for a couple nights about now!!! Forcast......35 to 40 below windchills tonight!!
Rae I'm at a "full Chrysler line". Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep. Toyota and Honda seem to have a wait. Must domestics can be built and delivered in about 3 weeks.
Flexsmom, welcome to our little club. Yes, I am going to get the megaphone and we are all going to sing "happy birthday to Ann". They can't throw us ALL of the ship!! It can be a warm up for Rae and Andys "by invite only birthday cruise".

Ron - wanna know what we are paying for that Sienna? It could buy house! I think we've been taken, but then again, I always feel like that when I am dealing with car dealers - now why is that?!

It doesn't matter what kind of voice you have - it's the thought that counts (just don't stand next to me, or they will think someone got hurt!)

And so sick of the snow., If we were not going away in a few weeks I think I would lose my mind. The new plow man at least is not as psychotic, either that or he is afraid of me. I just finished snowblowing the driveway for the second time yesterday when he FINALLY came to our street. He went around the circle once and I just stood there with the snowblower and stared, he went a few more times but put most of it on the culdesaq not my yard. I still had to plow out about three feet, but better than six. I wonder what he would do if I were not there?>

Ann, it was just THAT look on your face that told him he'd better put it somewhere other than on your driveway! I shoveled today again, but we have nothing compared to what you have - but still, I am sick of it all and want to think SPRING!

I wonder how my horses are doing. I haven't seen them in weeks and thank God they have great care at the stable or I'd really be worried.

Rae.....those Siennas and Oddessys(Honda) are "cult cars". I was the General Mgr. at a Honda-Hyundai store a couple of years ago and Honda people are Honda people. Toyota people are Toyota people and will usually pay anything and wait forever for what they want! I have heard nothing but good about the Sienna....good reliability, good resale etc...I have a good friend that I "trained" in the finance end of the buisness that is now a Mgr. at a Toyota store by (that owes me a few favors) us that if you want I can make a call and see how you did $$ wise. They have GREAT resale value so I'm sure you'll be fine either way. Me, I've been in the buisness for 23 years in April (I started changing plates and washing cars on my 16th birthday....) And I've only baught 1 new car....and that was in 2000 and it was a lease. I just recently baught DW a 2003 Eddie Bauer Expedition at the auction with 13000 miles on it. Origional sticker was $51,000.00 and I paid a little over $30,000.00.....let someone else take the loss. If you was e-me with the datails of that Sienna and I'll have it priced out for ya......

Rae I really like that new picture too! :) I am planning on the brunch being our Palo meal so definantly count us in on the list. I also want to do High Tea. We really enjoyed our servers on the last cruise & the kids and were glad that we didn't miss any dinners with them.

Ann - have you seen the sun lately? It's still up there, I'm told.

Lisa - okay with brunch and high tea. I also hate to miss our regular servers, but there is one menu (Mexicali/Tropicali) that I don't like AT ALL - so that's the night we will be at Palo.
I can't remember what menu it is, but there is one that EVERYTHING is great and I always end up eating toooooo much that night.

I am SO glad I talked Jay into the quickie trip to F.L. I wish we were going for longer though, we will have really only three beach days, but three is better than none. We are going to TRY to pack only carry on bags, this will be hard for me as I always pack way to much no matter where we go. But it will make life a lot easier if we don't have to check anything, I bought some space bags today (the rollup kind) so hopefully it will work.

Anyone made plans for the ports yet?
We are going to stay on the ship in key west. I was not impressed with kw at all and it will give us time to use the pools etc.

Not sure yet about Grand Cayman or Cozumel, last time we did stingray city which was great but I don't think I will do the same thing again. Cozumel last time we only did mini golf and shopped so I would like to do something this time more "mexican".
Not sure which night we are doing palo, I really dislike the animators menu so maybe that night. Did anyone book their precruise hotel yet? I keep trying priceline every three days but so far no luck... oh well we have a LONG way to go, I am so glad I can get some warmth before then!

The menu the last night was the hardest for me to decide on. EVERYTHING sounded wonderful!!! The deserts were ALL fantastic! How do I know? We ordered one of each for the 4 adults, then I ordered a celebration cake to go. Formal night's menu Sunday night didn't really impress me. I may have just been too tired though.

AnnMorin
01-31-2004, 05:12 PM
Anyone remember the dining rotation for the western?
Which nights were formal night? I plan on holding my birthday celebration the last night. If diversions has that GREAT English pub night again that is where it will be,, it was so funny... I wish DeeAnn was joining us, I miss her :(

Actually, I am hoping that the kids will go to the club while we walk around Key West a bit. We are both Parrotheads :) so we definantly would like to see Margarittaville. If the kids go with us, we may take a trolly tour but that is probably it. They don't like to be off the ship for long. As far as the other ports, I really haven't looked into the excursions. We didn't do any last cruise & enjoyed ourselves just walking around the port for an hour or so, then returning to the almost empty ship. :smooth: I will probably do more research this summer as we are getting more excited about it. Cost is also something that I consider. I would rather just do a little shopping & enjoy the ship, then enjoy something at the spa instead of paying for an excursion. It will depend on how well Ebay does for me this year.

Hello again! Lisa, I e-mailed you my family info for the website. If you don't have it by now, let me know and I'll resend. We're trying to decide between the brunch or the high tea at Palo - I know we definitely want to do dinner. It may be just a "girl" event for tea. I haven't been to either - only dinner. So which would you do if you had to pick - brunch or high tea?

With two kids, we're leaning towards doing the trolley at Key West to wander for an hour or two and get back on board - or maybe even just look at the town from the ship! I think I'm one of those few who wouldn't terribly mind seven "days at sea" to tell the truth! Have any of you done the Atlantis submarine? I think my daughter would love seeing what's below the waterline.

Rae - as the mom of a little girl and a baby boy, I must say that you awe me. My son has been ill lately, and in the hospital for several days in December - I remember thinking when he was admitted that I couldn't imagine anything more important than making him warm and cozy in my arms for a few minutes, and that I wouldn't know what I would do without him. Anyhow, your daughter is beautiful, as is her gift to so many others......

We will be at Shades of Green on Disney property from Saturday til Friday - then heading over to the Port. Have been invited to stay with friends at Cocoa Beach - but we'd love to have a DisMeet that night, if possible! We do okay - have only had one seller who didn't pay (waited til today from 1/13) to put down negative feedback and report to Ebay.

It helps get rid of the clutter! Tell Jay and Michael that it seems that the last day or two is the big push to buy. I'm pretty much the same way - I am one of those who wait til the last minute to put in a bid generally!!!!

If she surprises me and takes off between now and then, at least I'm only out $21 and have a nice dress to pass on to the nieces!

Hey Rae I just did a search on ebay for boy's tux's and there are a bunch, how much are you willing to spend? I saw a few tht were only like 12.99!

rae519

Just did a buy it now -new $24.99, plus $10 shipping, $1.30 insurance and $2.25 for the paypal guarantee.

Decided it was a good value and couldn't wait any longer!!
You know how excited I am about this upcoming wedding.....
at least we will look good on the ship in April!

ok Rae.. I have the BEST idea for a cruise meet, the one thing I stay inside for and miss tanning time is the wine tasting... lets do that as a group!

AnnMorin
02-09-2004, 12:02 PM
Hey Phyllis, I just noticed you are right accross the hall from us, we are 7120 and you are 7620!

rae519
02-09-2004, 12:29 PM
Okay, this is the plan - if you all agree - we sign up for the wine tasting on the ship then head off to one of our staterooms to finish our own bottles!
OR we can skip the Disney Wine Tasting and just get into our own bottles and do the tasting in one of our staterooms.

I'm not into dry wines - but since I am driving I will be able to bring some Piersport Riesling (sweeter, white) and a few other kinds that we can enjoy.

AND we can order the cheese tray from room service for our snacks!

Ohhh, this is going to be the cruise to end all cruises!!!

Lampie - where are you, by the way? Too many days without posting - can we count you and your Missus in on this one?

Rae

ANN...we can wave at each other or help each back to our cabins after the wine tasting(s).......

RAE...I just noticed that you're going on a cruise before December....you haven't even mentioned that cruise.....

We may do a quick 3 or 4 night with Barb and Tony...but I don't know yet.

Of course, yesterday we decided to get top of the line appliances for our house....like I want the frig on the Sears commercial where the girl is standing there opening and closing the doors....
Jim wants a dishwasher that is stainless steel so it won't rust...and instead of justing getting new tile for our kitchen floor...we're going to do the bathrooms and laundry room too....
so that may take our 3/4 night cruise money. We'll see.....

Gotta run...I'm actually suppose to be doing real work.....

Phyllis - I have it at the bottom of my signature. It's going to be a nice cruise but the "wild party" is the one I'm interested in!! That's Ann's birthday celebration!

So if we have it at either of your staterooms, you can just stagger back into your room afterwards, ehhhh?

We will set a time limit on it though. Last year the party had some inconsiderates that stayed from 1 (wine tasting started at 2) - they came early and stayed til nearly 6PM - only left because of main dining schedule! Not going to have anyone stuck with unwanted guests this time around - not that we would!!! I know that some of us would just start throwing people either out the door or overboard! (Ohhh, I'm in rare form today!)

I know it's there....I've seen it a gazillion times.....just never
registered in the old brain....and you've never mentioned it....
that one can be your R & R....rest up before December....

So let's see....we're now doing:

A Dis Meet
Brunch
Dinner
High Tea
Wine Tasting

Why don't we just ask if we could have that conference room on the bridge?????? Maybe Captain Tom would like to join us.....
bet nobody has ever met there...............

Phyllis

AnnMorin
02-09-2004, 02:41 PM
I'm in for a dismeet if it is in the sun (like we did last year would be good phyllis) and I am always up for wine but don't count me in for any other indoor activities,.,, maybe we could even do the wine tasting on the secret deck so I can still get my sun :sunny:
It's not far for us to stumble home either phyllis, that is one reason I picked that cabin...

rae519
02-09-2004, 03:25 PM
If the secret deck has shade, I'll be in on that!!

I don't think they'd mind if we asked the good Captain to join us!
So long as he drinks a soft drink!

I'm all for a wine & cheese get together! We did that in a cat 6 last cruise. It ended up being the social ladies & we sat & talked for about 2 hours. I wouldn't go to the regular wine tasting but a little meet would be fun. The secret deck sounds great...but it would also be nice to see the inside of a cat 3. :)

lbgraves
02-09-2004, 11:00 PM
IDK about this group, but with the 11/15 group the guys were OK with meeting everyone at the sail away party but none were really interested in the get togethers. We set up the wine & cheese on Wednesday morning as a last minute chance to visit. I know that my DH would gladly take care of the kids...especially with the club being such a hit...than be too social. ;)

Thanks alot Flexsmom for the offer!!!

Thank you so much for the volunteering your living room for our wine tasting. Please remember to set a time frame and you can pick the date/time since it's your stateroom (hey, fair is fair!) Just give us a heads up on when!!

And again, thank you so much for your generous offer.

Hugs,
Rae

Below 300?! Wow! The only thing I think about is how soon I can get back on my horses (5 weeks to go!) and how much fun I'm going to have complaining about sore butt and legs!!!

flexsmom

I like the 1-3 timeframe - not sure on the day yet. We should be able to come up with something in the next 300 days! I'll bring the corkscrew and a bottle - it would be interesting to see what kind of wine variety we come up with everyone brings a bottle to sample. I won't even charge that dreaded "corkage fee"!

I'm addicted. My husband thinks I have an illness. I was just promoted at work and each day I live for getting home to check out what the latest is with this thread, the cruise thread, and the DVC thread. It's my "drink a glass of chardonnay and decompress" method. I love the juicy ones with all of the complaints (I like to see where my tolerance level is compared with others). I love the tidbits of info I still get even after trolling here for over a year. When does it stop? When I tell DH that we're hosting a party for a bunch of people when I only know their screen names, he'll for sure call the men with the little white jackets to come get me! (Oh, and Ann - I don't have a problem with men coming - I'm game whatever we decide!)

Hi Fellow Cruisers,

I just checked my pm's and Ann graciously had invited me to join this thread. I was not aware that there were so many of us booked for this cruise. I have been frantically trying to plan for my next cruise on March 4 on the Carnival Legend and not paying a ton of attention to the Dis board... sorry:( . Btw, the Carnival cruise was a gift from my boss...I'm not straying from DCL on my own!

Can't wait to be able to read this entire thread. We have not done any of the ports on the western so I may need to pick Ann's brain about excurison ideas for dh and myself. Both dh and I are early (very early;) 40's...no kids. Looking forward to joining our dis friends on the cruise.

Thanks,

Looks like 20's here today - heat wave!!!!!

Got my excursions booked for the April 17 cruise - Pinel Island, Trunk Bay and Glass Bottom Boat at CC - just a nice relaxing time planned for us. I do want to go up the tram on St. Thomas though - don't like the "coming down" though - did it in Switzerland off Mt Pilatus and screamed the entire way. Nancy, I'm pricing the Carnival Sensation for my friend's wedding in September (Cozumel and Grand Cayman). They have all inside staterooms, but I'm spoiled by DCL and want that verandah - so it's a waiting game now. I have friends who have gone Holland and Norwegian, and swear by Carnival - but they haven't gone Disney yet....looking at the 2005 time frame for the birthday celebration seriously though!!!!

Go WEST Disney!

Rae,

I am leery about Carnival as I have heard both good and bad. We are not "partyers" per se but I think that Carnival has calmed down a little over the years. We have a private balcony stateroom on the Empress deck which I think is comparable to DCL, no split bath though. As my dh said "If it's free, it's for me." Everything is paid for except our excursions so regardless of how it compares to DCL, I'm sure we will make the best of it. The rates on future CCL cruises are much lower than DCL, but I will decide after we return from our March cruise if I will cruise CCL again.

I love DCL, but have to admit the rates are really getting rather crazy.

I notice no planes landing or taking off and decide to take another pill (hense why I am SO tired) we finally get to the airport and it is big time searches (apparently this ariport is just real thourough) I finally get up my courage and ask what the heck is going on.. apparently someone committed suicide and jumped off thr bridge onto the causeway where you goto board. I felt guilty but all I could say was "thank God" yes now I feel more guilty but...at leat we re safe, then we come home and the cops are at our houe, a window was open, must not have been locke all they way (second floor) and with the warm snap we had it raised up.. well I am soooo tired talk to ya later.. hey go to priceline and book 39.00 for three stars and meet me at the beach!

Hi there - I just can't seem to get my mom and friend as engaged in the necessity for planning NOW, instead of 3 or 4 months from now! Imagine that! I'm in the midst of "kindergarten interviews" for my daughter - yes, they actually do standardized tests here for 4-year olds to assess them for getting into kindergartens, plus "play dates" that are basically interviews. Scary stuff, and hard to keep it "all about fun" for the little one without any stress. Ridiculous. At least it has broken 50 degrees the past two days. I want to go on vacation now! Help?!

So, to get more to a cruise issue, anyone been to the Cozumel beaches? Which ones did you like? I think Grandma and Grandpa will head to the Ruins and we'll be packing up the little ones to a beach day. Obviously this won't be our wine tasting day! Any nominations on a good day to do that?!?

Okay, this is the bad news, we may not be able to cruise in December. Long story, but suffice it to say....we have not cancelled it yet and will not til the last minute. IF we do go at all, it would be for the cruise and not the week's stay at SoG though.

Flexsmom, it would probably work out best on a sea day so that would depend on what day we get booked for brunch/high tea. We haven't done the Western yet so I can't help you with your other question. We probably wont do beach days until CC. Just too much work with the kids & all they want to do when we do get off the ship to look around is go back to Mickey's boat & swim. :)

Yes you can get non smoking, after you make your bid/ressie just call the hotel they are very willing to make you happy from my experience, I just let them know my son is allergic and my husband a lawyer... :)
I just put some DCL , DVC stuff up on ebay but now I am thinking I should have waited. WE have had two nonpaying bidders so far in our sales - of course, we report them to e-bay on their "special form" but otherwise things are going okay. One bid was for over $50.00 - she knew it was PayPal only, won the bid, then asked to send a money order, after days, we realized she was a deadbeat - never replied to e-mails. Go figure.

I have had one bad experience with a seller - regarding the Tux, SC express - tworedrabbits is the e-mail user name. Had to use PayPay Protection to get my money back. Now I am getting e-mails from him/her. Will be reporting it to e-bay shortly. In my opinion, it's bordering on harassment. I put a BLOCK on it this AM.

RE: No updates - seems like that's been a problem recently for us also. Hope we haven't missed out on anything!!!

RE: Cruise - doesn't look like we will be on it - but I'll keep posting just in case. Priorities as we all know, and cruising is actually not

Heard the boating accident stranded cruisers in Lousianna Saturday morning both at Port and in the Gulf. Ohhhh, not that I would ever want a tragedy/accident, but I could take being stranded on the Magic for hours, days, weeks...

Michael learned how to hang on when a horse kicks up his heels yesterday. All the horses were FRISKY! Got Red into the round pen to exercise, Tytefit bolted when we hit the barn door and took off running, kicking and just playing like a colt!! Then Scooter, who we were told doesn't like to trot, cantor or run - did the same thing!!! They were just everywhere at breakneck speed. Fun to watch, but with the lead ropes trailing behind...well, that was a bit scary for me since they could catch on their feet or trees and cause a fatal accident.

Anyway, got Scooter back, he was still full of himself when Michael rode, but Michael, my trooper, held on and had a nice time. Since I can't ride, I let Red out to romp with the herd.
Got back to the main barn to chat with others and got the report that Red and Tytefit kicked down one of the round pen gates to release another horse and the three of them were running around!

In the end, the gate wasn't really broken - the escapee was caught and my boys decided when they saw me with Scooter that they wanted to get back to their stalls.

What a day!!!

I hate waiting..it seems like the bidding never gets good until the very end. I have a ton of stuff up and most of it has no bids...... I am glad I have to work today so I can stop looking at it!
l can't beleive it I put up our konk cooler mugs and no takers I would have thought they would be scooped up right away

What was meant to be will be Rae, if this cruise is not the time we meet maybe it will be another time.
Yikes that is scarey about Mike and the horse, I am afraid of those huge creatures!

You can't be afraid if you are around horses - they are a pack animal and the leader (human/rider) must earn their respect. He has shown his horse that he IS the leader. I have to work with Tytefit, he needs a little lesson!!! Red KNOWS!!!!

Going over to see your stuff, Ann!

Well, I am jealous! I just got back from the doctor with Kaitlyn. After 3 nights of being up with her coughing I didn't want to take a chance that the pneumonia was back. Well, it's not that but she does have an ear infection and possibly strep and has "OMG those are huge!" tonsils. :(

Well, Mike told me that his throat is hurting today too. He didn't go to the clinic though. ACK!!! :(

BTW, I haven't been getting updates for a while. It stopped back in October too. Just a pain but I try to keep coming back to keep up. :)
