we have not been to Universal in several years. What is going into Kong's old spot? When will it open?
What else is new? What is Islands like? Just fill me in.

Well, your first question is easy, Kong was replaced by the Mummy, which is going to be a dark rollercoaster ride, with show scenes as most dark rides, plus some new technology Universal won't even give out until it opens.
As for your second question, Islands is like nothing else on earth, I really can't describe except to say it is most well themed park anywhere IMO. There are a lot of different things to do, and despite what a few people think, it ISN'T just rollercoasters, it's a lot more, but it is geared toward more thrilling rides than tame ones.

I would compare the 2 parks this way: Universal Studios is more show-oriented with the attractions taking about 20 minutes with pre-shows, etc. while IoA is more attraction-oriented with more what you would term "rides" that take about 5-10 minutes in all. Both parks have exceptions as well.
I would not actually put the parks up against one another since they are so different, but they are definitely both something that you have to do. Also, to add to the last response, there are technically only 4 coasters in IoA (Hulk, Fire, Ice, and Flying Unicorn, which is more of a kiddie coaster). There are many more rides than just those!
